Cannot start Visual Studio 2013 Community edition

Windows 7 on a 64-bit PC...
Downloaded the installer vs_community.exe for Visual Studio 2013 with Update4 yesterday and ran it.
It took about 1 hour and 20 minutes. At the end the installer reported the web deployment function
could not be found/installed and that I could locate and install it myself later. It then told me to
restart the PC, which I did, but the Community edition had not been added to the start menu.
There are other Visual Studio versions on this PC:
Visual C# 2010 Express, Visual Express 2012, Visual Express 2013 and Visual Studio 2013 Ultimate
trial version. They can all be started from the menu and do not interfere with each other and they
installed without problems. There are 4 weeks evaluation time left for VS 2013 Ultimate and I want to
make use of that. VS Express can be shown the door if any of these might be blocking the
Community version.
I am puzzled by one more VS directory named Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 in Program Files(x86). This
contains many items added yesterday by the Community install including a directory named Community
with with two files licencse.htm and ThirdPartyNotices.txt. It also contains files and directories
added in November last year (ImportProjects, Preemptive Solutions...(don't remember what or if I was installing)) and some added in February this year when I installed VS Ultimate 2013 trial. So the VS 2012 directory contains a mix of items placed there by
VS 2013 installers.
Questions:
1. Could this mixed use be the cause of the Community version not being on the Start menu?
2. what can I do to fix this without losing the VS Ultimate trial?
3. Can Community version coexist with other VS versions?

I was installing by running vs_community.exe.
When I let the mouse hover over this file name information about the file pops up:
File Description: Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 Community with Update4
File version: 12.0.31101.0
Size: 1.18MB
I don't know, but I would guess this file installs the Community version.
I did not notice that the Community version will not run on the same computer as other VS 2013 versions. Is this in the documentation? And will the Community version be blocked by VS Express
versions too?
Now, as far as I understand to make the Community version work I will need to uninstall the VS Ultimate 2013 trial first. Will that remove the Ultimate files in the MS VS12.0 directory in Program Files (X86)? and will uninstalling Community remove its contribution?
I mentioned there are other files too in MS VS12.0, like SDK, Silverlight, WDExpress and Web. I don't remember installing any other program that might have put them there. Do I have to empty or remove MS VS12.0 before installing the community version? Then,
if there are some left-overs can I just delete MS VS12.0 manually?

Will SAP's Crystal Reports work with Visual Studio 2013 Community Edition?
    Bill Voorhees

Yes. the three different versions (2005 vs. 2010 vs. 2013) are independent entities designed to install and coexist on a single system.
As for CR, you'll need to ask SAP about that.

I was wondering if the Email and Phone types are only available to VS 2013 professional (or any other paid versions).
Can someone please shed light on this? I'm kind of stuck on the tutorials of Beth Massi.

    HI Jaybee lsip,
    Welcome to Lightswitch forum.
We can use Email and Phone types in Visual Studio Lightswitch 2013/2012, etc. If you got error message using  Email and Phone types, you need check whether this issue is related to your VS environment, and repair your VS first, perhaps it will
    help you to fix it.
Please let me know if there is anything that I can do to help.

  • Trouble Installing Visual Studios 2013 Community on Windows Standard 7 Embedded.

    Hi there,
I'm not sure if this is solvable or not, but I cannot seem to get MS Windows Standard 7 Embedded to run Visual Studios 2013.  I have been able to make it work fine on Win7 HP, and on Win 8.1, but it seems to not be compatible with the Win Standard 7

You don't provide much of an explanation to go on with regard to what is occuring which will not allow Visual Studio 2013 community edition to run on WS7E.
Is .Net Framework 4.5 already installed on WS7E? Did VS 2013 Community install with no issues on WS7E? Are any errors occuring? If WS7E has event logs have you checked those?
I have no idea about WS7E or if you have to create an image that will run VS 2013 Community.
    La vida loca
I tried to upload a screen shot but apparently I have yet to be verified human, but I will try to describe what it looked like.  When I ran the .exe from downloads it came up with a window that said to fix the following errors before attempting to install.
The first error said that visual studios requires a computer with a newer version of windows.  The next problem said that visual studios works best with internet explorer 10, but I can't get an updated version of explorer because it is not compatible
with my system.  I can try another version of windows, or a different version of visual studios; however, I can only run windows 7 or earlier, windows 8 is not compatible with my pc.

  • Cannot start visual studio 3013

I downloaded visual studio 2013. Two years ago I used an old user id. I don't have the password. I cannot get rid of it. It suggests to use a 'change user id'. Where is that?
Why will this not work. I cannot start visual studio.
    User Id

    Hello,
If that account is not associated with your Visual Studio and you just want to register Visual Studio with your account.
Please create a new User ID then register Visual Studio. Here is the
    MS account page
If you are licensed user and your account has a paid version of Visual Studio, please
call 1-800-426-9400, Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (Pacific Time) to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist, and you can get more detail information from there. You can also visit the following site for more information
    and support on licensing issues:
    http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/mplahome.mspx.
You will need to ask how to reset your account and then reset your password. After that, you can use VS again.

  • Why Visual Studio 2013 express edition always show repair or uninstall when I open it??

I don`t know why my Visual Studio 2013 express edition always show repair or uninstall when I open it??
I install it yesterday and it worked fine, but today when I open it, its says repair or uninstall all the time.... Anyone know why?
    Hellpppp

    Hi,
I think your VS may have been corrupted. I suggest you click "repair" to repair your VS.
If it can't solve your issue, please use ISO file to reinstall it.
If you used a web installer, please download the ISO file from the website.
    http://search.microsoft.com/en-in/DownloadResults.aspx?q=Visual+Studio+Express+2013
Before you reinstall it,please use this tool
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841290 to verify hash of the ISO. Any discrepancy would indicate that the file was corrupted.
The sha1 value of ISO could be found in "Install Instructions".
If you have made sure your ISO file have no problem, please reinstall it.
If you have any further question, please feel free to let me know.

  • Visual Studio 2013 Community Azure Login Not Working with Two-factor Authentication

Has anybody had any problems logging in to Azure to publish when using Visual Studio 2013 Community and with two-factor authentication turned on?
I couldn't log on until I turned off two-factor authentication.

    Hello John,
    Thanks for posting here!
You can try and set a credential helper like
git-credential-winstore in order to cache your credentials. See if that helps.
    Couple of questions here:
    1) Are you using a MSA account by any chance?
    2) When you turn on two-factor authentication, do you get any error message?
    3) Did you try with different browsers?
    Looking forward to your response!

  • Cannot install Visual Studio 2013 on Windows 7 Ultimate x64

    Hi,
I'm trying to install Visual Studio 2013 under Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64.  If it matters the Windows O/S is an image running under Parallels.
I've had Visual Studio installed on this machine before (I can't remember the version) but have uninstalled it.
I'm getting an error "Microsoft .NET Framework required for Microsoft Visual Studio Express 2013 for Windows Desktop - ENU".
I've been Googling this issue for hours, trying numerous things suggested, to no avail.  Apparently it's a common error.
I've got the .Net Framework 4.5.1 installed.  I've also reinstalled it and repaired the installation.  I suspect the error message is a stupid red herring.
I'm at my wits end on this.  Any advice on how to get this bug ridden swill to install?
P.S.:  Clearly this is a known and highly frustrating issue for many people.  Why can't Microsoft find the bug, fix it, and put an updated installer on their download site.  Is this too much to ask?

You need to go to the MSDN website for Visual Studio 2013 found @
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd831853.aspx
The webpage with the system requirements has a Support tab for help with Visual Studio @
    http://www.visualstudio.com/products/visual-studio-2013-compatibility-vs
You need help for the application, not for Windows 7.

  • Visual Studio 2013 Community "Re install" Issues after HDD failure

    Hello,
I had a recent failure in my HDD where all my apps were installed (not the OS) and had to replace and re install a lot of apps. But VS 2013 has been given me a hard time. when I try to re install it it only gives me the option to Repair Uninstall or Modify.
I have tried all three with no avail. The errors I am getting are : Fatal Error during installation.
I have also tried to clean up reg keys and temp files. I have also tried previous answers such as re downloading the ISO and installing as admin. I have cleared my Temp folder as well.
From what I can deduce it looks like it's missing reg keys and doesn't know what to do... Here are some logs : Logs1 and Logs2

  • Visual Studio 2013 - which edition for a BizTalk 2013 installation ?

    Hi there,
What is the lowest edition of VS2013 that will do for BT2013 ?
Is it necessary to go for ultimate or is one of the test editions enough ?

If you're checking  the lowest Visual Studio edition for saving cost, then Professional edition should do.
    FYI:
For BizTalk 2013, it Visual Studio 2012. And for Visual Studio 2013 is for BizTalk 2013 R2 (not 2013)
And as pointed out, "Test Professional" is not for testing.
Have a look here for the comparison for features among the Visual studio editions.

You need to post your issue with Windows 10 TP in the Feedback app. Breaking changes in a prerelease OS are not uncommon and have occurred before, IIRC.
You can also try to repair the failing applications.

    Dim ConnectionString As String= "Data Source=(LocalDB)\v11.0; "_ + "AttachDbFilename=C:\Users\...
That's the way LocalDB works; you have to attach the database file during runtime as a database.
If you want to have a "permanent database", then you have to use SQL Server Express and create the database there.

  • Can I configure TFS express 2013 in ms visual studio 2013 express edition?

    Hi,
I downloaded Microsoft visual studio SHELL only to realise that I cannot create WebApplication.
my team wants to work on the .Net application integrated with tfs for
development, version control and building. Its on trial basis.
So we want to create a prototype and hence we cannot go for the licensed version.
Can you please tell me if we can do the above things using microsoft visual studio express 2013 and tfs express 2013.
If yes, please explain the configuration process as we see many installers online.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi linkin3468,
Firstly, there are different VS express version, if you want to develop the web app, one idea is that you could install the VS2013 express for web.
    http://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/products/visual-studio-express-vs.aspx
Or you could install the latest free version VS2013 community version, it would support all features of express versions.
    http://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/news/vs2013-community-vs.aspx
For the TFS express usage issue, as far as I know, the Visual Studio Express client integration will work with any Team Foundation Server – including both TFS Express and the
Team Foundation Service. So you could use it.
    Best Regards,
    Jack

  • How to solve this problem in Visual Studio 2013 Community with Apache Cordova

I'm trying to run an application in VisualStudio2013
    community with Apache Cordova
and I'm getting a lot of error messages.
    Any ideia about this?
    Regards,
    Samambaia Jr.

What version of the VS Cordova Extension are you using?  CTP3.0?   It looks like your node packages didn't get installed properly.  Try clearing the Cordova Cache (Tools/Options/Tools for Apache Cordova/Cordova Tools).  After
that, reload your project and rebuild.

  • Visual Studio 2013 slows down + crashes when using Source Control features.

I have spent two full days trying to resolve this issue but no luck so here we go,
I have created a project using Visual Studio Team Foundation Server plug-in in the past. Later on I switched to
    Microsoft Git Provider.
Now when I connect to that project in the Team Explorer and double click on the solution to work on it locally it somehow changes the plug in to Microsoft Git Provider automatically and of course I can't
Commit/Commit and Push since I receive following error in the Team Explorer,
An error occurred. Detailed message: Failed to open directory 'C:/Users/.../AppData/Local/Application Data/'
Manually changing the plug-in to the Visual Studio Team Foundation Server
results in a broken Team Explorer as below,
With Settings leading to an empty pane, and also a warning in the Team Explorer's Changes page telling me the message below if I click on Pending Changes...
Microsoft Git Provider is not the current Source Control plug-in. Change Plug-in
And manually selecting the solution from Solution Explorer, right click and
Add Solution to Source Control, leads to never ending hour glass and (Not responding) visual studio.
    New Projects
Creating a new project is straight forward, unless I "Add to Source Control" is checked. If so, again never ending process if Microsoft TFS plug-in is selected in the tools and eventually me Ending the Visual Studio task. And a VERY long process
(40+ mins) if I have chosen Microsoft Git but that finishes successfully rather.
New TFS project from Team Explorer
If I create a new project in my Online Web Studio
Click on Open with Visual Studio Link => Opens and connects to a my newly created TFS in team explorer.
Clicking new in Team Explorer under Solutions to create a new solution and bind it to this Repo
leads to straight crash of Visual Studio and restarting attempt of VS.
So I really can't use Source Control from visual studio other than cloning GitHub's existing repo's on Visual Studio and Committing my current Microsoft Git managed projects.
    I have attempted
Repairing Visual Studio (no luck in results)
    Devenv.exe /setup (no luck)
Trying to scrap the SCC info on my solution then at least it won't get picked up by source control then I can Check it in as a new project. (no luck and the solution picks the Microsoft Git upon opening it by clicking on the .sln file.) I have followed
these steps in this stack overflow answer.
And lots of mucking around like removing my workspaces almost Thousand times and putting them back, binding and etc.
I am really stuck on this and it's holding me back from staring a new project (which is problematic using Adding to Source Control) and unfortunately is dependent on the old project (which is developed under Visual Studio Team Foundation Server Plug-in which
    is throwing tantrums)
Would like to hear you pro-s input on this
    Using
Visual Studio 2013 Community edition (recently switched from Pro to Express to Community)

    Mehradzie

    Hi Mehradzie,
Based on the description, seems you're working with Git team project in Visual Studio Online(formerly Team Foundation Service). I'd like to know whether you mean Visual Studio Git command tool as the plug-in, and if you're trying to create solutions/projects
with Visual Studio and add them to the created Git team project.
From the screenshot, you're not connect to the Git team project by using Team Explorer. To work with Git team project locally, you can follow the instructions as below:
Connect to Git team project by using Team Explorer, after that you might install Git tools if you connect to the team project for the first time
Clone the remote Git repository to a local git repository and set the path to local git repository
Create a solution and select Git source control, also saved to the local path of the local git repository
Select your branch, and then click "Changes" and Commit the changes
Click "unsynced commits" and push the commit to remote git repository
You can also refer to the links below for more information about getting started with Git in Visual Studio Online.
