Cannot stream photos stored in Time Capsule to ATV2. Why?

I cannot get the ATV2 to stream photos stored in the Time Capsule. I have all the obvious settings turned on in iTunes- home sharing, and the photos folder stored in Time Capsule selected, but for some reason the ATV2 get's stuck on the loading library screen. I am able to stream HD movies stored in Time Capsule to ATV2 with no problems but not photos. Can someone explain why or suggest a good way to view photos stored in TC to ATV2? Should I report this as a bug to Apple? Thnx.

Yes. As a test, I created a folder in Time Capsule and put just a hand full of photos in it. I redefined the path for photo sharing in iTunes to that folder, and voila! they show up on ATV2. But when I select the folder with a bit more photos then the ATV2 gets stuck on the loading page. Hmmm?

  • How do I back up videos or photos to the time capsule outside of utilizing time machine as well?

I was told when I purchased the time capsule that I could use it for Time Machine purposes but also use it as personal storage of files.  How do I back up my personal videos and photos to the time capsule outside of using the time machine as well?

If the MBP is already connecting to the network via the TC it is just being difficult. (It is incredibly difficult at the moment as apple have some built in bugs in Lion and ML).
Use finder and go, go to server. Type in the actual TC name. Thusly..
    AFP://TCname
If the MBP still cannot find the TC.. reboot it.. it should then work.. it is like olden day electronics .. sometimes you need to give it a swift kick to get it going.
(Please do not actually physically kick anything.. I was being metaphorical!!)

  • Can i access my photos saved on time capsule using my pad via my home wifi?

Can i access my photos saved on time capsule using my pad via my home wifi?   I would like to edit my pictures on my ipad instead of my mac mini and have them stored on my time capsule.

Sad that people steal stuff.. and..
Sorry but there is no way windows can recover a TM backup. You have to use another Mac.
    TM is uniquely Mac.

  • Why can't I open IPhoto library stored on Time Capsule?

Our old iMac G5 was struggling with the 27k of photos on it and couldn't accept a software update, so I have bought a 2T Time Capsule and a MacBook, in the hope that I could copy my music and photos onto the Time Capsule and use the MacBook just to access and use the data.
I've dragged and dropped the music from the G5 to the TC and can get at that ok with the MacBook, and when I dragged the iPhoto library over it took ages, which was reassuring given the amount of data. However, when I try to look at the iPhoto library on the TC, while iPhoto on the MacBook can see all of the events, folders, numbers of images etc, when I actually want to look at a photo, all I get it a black screen with a grey triangle and an exclamation mark.
I've done the 'show package contents' thing, and all the photos are on the TC, and I can see them in Preview.
I've checked the TC formatting and it is MacOS Extended (case sensitive, journaled).
    Possible issues:
    - is it a problem that the TC is also set up to do backups?
    - is it a problem that the MacBook is set up with two users?
Not sure what else the problem might even be...
Help me please, otherwise I'll have to pay someone to come and sort it out and feel like I've totally failed...
    Thanks!

Your iPhoto Library is very likely corrupted.
This is an iPhoto issue, so you need to post in the iPhoto support area to let the experts over there offer some suggestions to see if the library can be rebuilt. The link to the iPhoto support area is here:
    iPhoto
The experts over there will likely also explain to you why you should never try to use the Time Capsule to store your "working" library with iPhoto.
The bottom line is that access to the library on the Time Capsule is very slow, and if there is any break in communications between the iPhoto application and the library....something that would easily occur using wireless.....this can corrupt the entire library.
You may be asked to trash the current library and use your backup to rebuild things.
In the future, you really want to place the iPhoto library on a USB drive or FireWire drive that is directly connected to your Mac. Access to the library is fast this way and this setup will work well.  Time Machine will also backup the attached hard drive to your Time Capsule so you will have backups of both the Mac and the hard drive.
I'll let the iPhoto experts take it from here. Hopefully Terrence Devlin will answer your question, but you might be prepared for a bit of a lecture in the process.
Good luck on trying to rescue the library.

  • Why can I not view photos from my Time Capsule on Apple TV?

All of my media files are on my Time Capsule and I have no difficulty watching movies or listening to music through Apple TV.  I am however, not able to view any photos from my Time Capsule in Apple TV.  If I select a Time Capsule folder either part of my iTunes media files or not, I just receive a message on screen with Apple TV to say that it is loading from my library and this can message does not change, even after 24 hrs.
Having looked on the Apple support pages they tell me that I can do what I am trying to do, but for some reason I am only able to see photos in Apple TV that are in folders on my MacBook and not my Time Capsule.\
A solution would be extremely welcome?

If you are using Safari then you can't as Safari doesn't support the uploading of content, but there are a number of Facebook apps which you should be able to use to upload photos e.g. the 'official' Facebook app

  • Access files stored in Time Capsule via iCloud

how to access files stored in Time Capsule via iCloud

Yes, you can remotely access files in the TC..
Did you read the apple instructions and do them??
    http://www.apple.com/au/support/icloud/back-to-my-mac/
It does depend on the main router being upnp or NAT-PMP capable.. so the best is if the TC is the main router.. otherwise you may have to manually forward the ports.

How can I do this? How can I find the sparesbundle? What is the best way to mount the time capsule internal disk?
Open a Finder window. If you see your Time Capsule in the "Shared" section of the sidebar, clicking on it should show the "Data" volume (or whatever you named it) in the main part of the window. Double-click on it to mount the "Data" volume.
If you don't see your Time Capsule in the Finder sidebar, you may not have enabled "disk sharing" in AirPort Utility. In AirPort Utility do a "manual setup of your Time Capsule, then select the Disks panel, then the "File Sharing" tab, then check "Enable file sharing", select a security method (I use "With a disk password"), fill in the remaining options as desired, then update the Time Capsule. Once it restarts, try again to see your Time Capsule in the Finder's sidebar.

  • Can Apple TV access movies that are stored in Time Capsule?

Can Apple TV access movies that are stored in Time Capsule?

The Apple TV looks for iTunes, which is likely on your computer.
I know of no way to "tell" the Apple TV to look for anything. It is pre-programmed to look for iTunes, iPhoto, etc.

  • When I try to delete my account from my iPod it says "If you delete your account, all documents and Photo Stream photos stored in Icloud will be deleted from this iPod touch"  Will I lose my pictures on my iPod?

I changed my email on my computer for my itunes and icloud.  It made me manually change it on my ipod even after I synced.  It won't change my email for my icloud and I have to delete it manually.  "If you delete your account, all documents and Photo Stream photos stored in Icloud will be deleted from this iPod touch" comes up. Will I lose all my data stored on my iPod?

You will only lose your iCloud data, That includes iCloud backup, iCloud Contacts and Calendar, Reminders, Notes, everything listed in Settings>iCloud

  • Cannot stream photos from iPad, cannot stream audio from Pandora

Updated to iOS 4.2.1 and I can stream audio from the iPod app on the iPad to the ATV2, so I know AirPlay is working. But, I cannot stream photos (there is no AirPlay icon showing on top of the screen, unlike the video demo from Apple.com web site). Also, cannot stream audio from Pandora (again, no AirPlay icon).
The odd thing is that I can stream Pandora audio from the iPhone 4. But, not photos (same problem as with the iPad).
Is anybody able to stream photos from either iPad or iPhone? How about Pandora audio from the iPad?

Apparently what is happening, and this was brought up in another thread, and what I suspected was happening as well, is that the iPhone/iPad/iPod touch is not streaming the video itself directly to the AppleTV (it might be streaming it if it's audio only, haven't confirmed). What it's apparently doing is, is telling the AppleTV2 to download the video and play it on its own, starting with xx:xx timestamp directly from youtube or your iTunes library. This is why it's only working with your iTunes library or the built-in YouTube app. And also why it wouldn't work with the camera roll, because it isn't streaming directly from the iPhone. So it's not exactly what we were originally thinking or expecting.

  • Can i delete photos from my comp once they are stored in time capsule without losing them?

Can I delete my photos from my computer after i have backed up to time capsule without losing them?

NO.. this is not how TM works.. once deleted from the Computer, it will be deleted eventually from the back.. when is unknown.
    See Q20 http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
Use an external drive to store the photos and include that in the TM backup.
If you copy the files to a separate directory on the TC, that is different to using TM.
But then you have no backup and the TC has no backup of itself.. indeed it cannot.. nor can TM backup a network drive.
You never want to have only one store of your files. Especially things like photos which are irreplaceable.

  • Can I watch video files stored in time capsule on my wireless tv

I'm looking to buy a time capsule because I store all my movies on hard drives that are wired into my entertainment system and it's time to clean it up. But first I want to know if I can use the time capsule as a main memory hub that all my wireless devices can access my movie and music collection.

This is always a hard question to answer.. I have no idea what format your movie and music collection is in.. nor what media player or TV you have.
But if it is iTunes library .. a TC is worse than useless.
It has no media extenstions.. it is a dumb store.. you will need a computer running iTunes to stream the file to the TV or media player.. and that means all files are double handled (if stored on the TC) and if you use wireless will possibly cuase major issues with movies stuttering. Also TC is not able to backup itself, so any files placed on the TC will not be backed up and Time Machine cannot backup network drives. So you have a major issue with keeping the library alive.
If you mean standard movie files.. the TV must be able to read raw movie files.. most cannot.. they need DLNA extensions.. remember TC has no extensions.
You can play raw movie files if you use a real media player.. eg WD live TV but the other conditions still apply.. no backup.. potentially slow and much more difficult to use than a USB drive plugged straight into the WD live TV. WD even allows the USB drive to be shared to the network to load movies directly onto it.

  • Cannot access information on my time capsule

My time capsule/airport was humming along on my 27" MAC until I took it in for a recall.
I received a new hard drive and was able to restore my itunes and a few other files to the new hard drive.
One day I lost the ability to get anything from the backup. i only need my photos but it is impossible for me to get anywhere. I've tried to use the dates on the right. I've tried the arrow on the botton, and even clicking on each individual window.
Any and ALL suggestions are welcomed and I'm sure helpful.
    Thank you in advanced
    Lonnie

Apple Time Machine is notorious for needing to wipe the slate clean and purge all old backups.  Do you remember getting a Time Machine Failed Backup message and being asked to start a new backup?  If this happened you no longer have access to your old backups.  Time Machine is great for day to day backup, but really critical files like photos should also be backed up on an external USB hard drive.  If you are really missing your old photos I would stop accessing the hard drive and consult with a data recovery expert (not cheap) but with luck you should be able to restore your photos.  If you use Apple's Photo Stream you might also have access to them that way via iCloud and your Apple ID.  Best of luck.

  • Can you stream iTunes library from Time Capsule to a MacBook if you're connected to the internet anywhere in the world?

I want to buy a MacBook Air but the flash storage means not enough space for all my movies and music. Instead of carrying around an extra harddrive, I'd rather make the Time Capsule my external harddrive. Most of the time when I access it it will be from my house, but say I'm just out and about and connected to the internet...assuming my Time Capsule is on, can I use it as basically a cloud device and stream my iTunes movies and music to my computer?

Probably not unless you have a super speed internet connection.. most people on adsl have 1mbit upload connection or less. you cannot stream movies over 1mbit.. I doubt you can even stream music. Actual throughput is only 800kbit/s...
That is why you store things in the cloud.. you download speed from cloud is much high than upload to it.
That is unless you have a super high speed, fibre connection to your home??
It is certainly possible.. if you have enough bandwidth.. 99.999% of people don't.

  • ITunes library stored on Time Capsule or other NAS drive?

On the iPad, can I use an iTunes library that is stored on an external, network-attached disk?
In other words, I'd like to put all my music on the Apple Time Capsule drive (or other NAS disk drive) and play it from iTunes on my iPad. Is that possible? If not, are there any updates, software extensions etc. coming out that would make it possible?
    Thanks!

Actually I searched again and found this ipad app called FileBrowser:
    http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/filebrowser-access-files-on/id364738545?mt=8
It says it supports NAS and people say in their reviews that they can stream music from their NAS drives using this app.
And after all, it would have been hard to imagine that ipad can't access the NAS when even my Android phone can do it.
