Cannot switch to camera mode to import video footage

Hello,
I've been making movies by importing small video clips from my camera. Just dragging files around, no problem.
Now I need to import footage from my video camera. The camcorder is connected but iMovie doesn't switch to camera mode. Instead I can take videos of myself with the built-in iSight. When I click the camera icon, the pop-up menu shows "Built-in iSight and Time Lapse". How can I import my video footage??
I look forward to getting HELP! Thanks!

Hi Bengt and thanks for the tips.
I have a Sony video camera no: DCR-TRV25E. It is on play (VCR), not record.
I think the main pb is that I don't know the difference between FireWire and USB ;-(
I am using the same cable I use when I import photos with my digital camera (Canon) into iPhoto. As this cable fit in nicely in my video camera, I didn't even wonder about it. I shall go through my messy "unused cables" box asap!
Thanks again!
Yours anna

  • Upgrade to Lion broke iMovie 08 - iSight Camera - No camera connected - To import video, please connect a camera - error message

I recently upgraded to OSX Lion.  My MackBoo Pro is fully patched and updated.  I can launch iMovie 08 but when i try to record or import video from camera it get the error message. No Camera Connected - To import video, please connect a camera.
All my other applications work fine with iSight including iChat, Skype, PhotoBooth.  So why would a specific upgrade to Lion break iMovie 08?
I looked at the other posts on this topic and no one has a really solid explination or fix.
    help please!!

That is odd.  When logged into Discussions, the Profile tab on my personal Apple Support Communities > People page includes the following screen-shot from immediately below the big avatar picture:
Clicking on the "Edit" link opens the dialog window shown in this screen-shot:
The choices bar lets you correct your OS.  Update saves the info.
If yours does not work this way, try a different browser.  (These screen shots are made using Safari on my Mac.)

If you want to fix your problem, it is time to reinstall and updated to the most current iMovie '08 version.
If you did not buy iLife '08 separately, perhaps it was included in the Software Applications disk(s) that came with your Mac.
lonestarry wrote: ... a colleague ... has the exact same issue...
Has your colleague reinstalled and updated iLife after upgrading to Lion?
I am using iMovie '11 (version 9.0.4), so I cannot test your specific version.  iMovie 9.0.4 is properly working for me after I restarted it one time.
However, depending on individual system configurations, Lion compatibility may be version dependent.  For example, this forum post contains reports of iLife '08 (and even older) working with Lion.  Moreover, as shown in this screen-shot from the roaringapps listing, it is the newer versions that may have problems:
Your version 7.1.4 should work with no trouble if all your Apple software is up to date.

  • I recently reinstalled Snow leapod on my mac because I was having problems. I backed up everything onto disks, but after formatting, i quickly realized that some files did not transfer. I am missing some very important video footage. Please help me!

I recently re-installed Snow leapod onto my macbook. Previously the system was running snow, I believe I may have visited a corrupt website or something. Anyhow, I backed up all of my information onto disks before reformatting, and the format went well. However, I realized after the fact that some important video footage did not transfer to my DVD-R's that I saved my data too. Is there any possible way I could recover this information? I'm trying to recovery software I found recomended online, but im not sure what the outcome of it will be. I know things are not looking good, but was hoping someone could please help me.

Also, as for what I did. I put the OS disk into my computer, restarted it and ran through the screens to completely reinstall the OS. Then, I had to install my Snow Leapord CD because my origional OS was not the newer SL. Its my own fault, I just didnt think of every file off the top of my head before startign the process. I assumed everything was on the backup disks I had just burned.

  • IPhone 6 will not switch to landscape mode for pictures, videos or tv

My iPhone 6 stopped switching to landscape mode for movies, pictures,tv or vedio.
    Does anyone have a solution?

TThe first thing to do is check, as Dilbert41 mentioned, whether the Rotation Lock is on. if you see the circular arrow around a small padlock at the top right of your screen turn it off using the Control Center. If the Roation Lock is off try a reset of your iPad. Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart. You will not lose data doing this. It's like a computer reboot.

  • Importing video footage

I have a Canon HF R300 and have about 2 hours of footage I'd like to import.
What is the best and fastest way for me to do this?
I don't need it to be high quality, as I'm putting it on dropbox for others to download.
    Thank you!

For your purposes, importing at the "Large" setting will suffice. This will enable you to share (export) as Large which produces a movie with dimensions of 960 x 540 pixels. This is also fine for burning a DVD. To import to iMovie, you can either connect the camera to your MacBook Pro by USB cable, or use a separate card reader.
If you wish to archive the clips on the SD card, use iMovie's built in Archive All feature. Always keep in mind that iMovie requires the full file structure on the card, as the AVCHD (.mts) clips can't be imported without that structure, unless separately transcoded by a third party app. Here's the Help article regarding the Archive All feature:

  • Import Video Footage

I got myself a new HD video camera for Christmas but have been unable to figure out how to import the footage onto my Mac. When I plug it in it recognizes it as three external storage devices. I've been able to copy over the video files to my Mac but they have been in the .avi format. I've attempted to convert these files but every time they come out laggy or with the audio out of sync. Please help.

Please tell us the exact model of your camera,
the exact model of your computer,
    which version MacOSX you're using,
what video software and which version you're using, and
what cable you're using to connect the camera to the computer.
    Then we can begin.

  • What cable do I need to import video footage from my Nikon D5100 DSLR?

Currently I am just inserting my SD card into my Mac and copying over all video clips then importing those directly into FCPX.
I'd prefer to use a cable, and since these DSLR's don't use the same Firewire my Sony Handycam did (seemingly), I'm at a loss about what to use.
I am also interested in importing my footage as I record, directly into FCPX. So the cable must be capable of that as well.
    Thanks

Ok I'll be sincere, video editing is not my thing, but I do own a Nikon D5000, and this one as far as I know is not able to "stream" recordings right into FCP. I maybe wrong though, and in that case, your USB cable should suit your needs.

  • How to import video footage shot at 24fps

I did a shoot for a student project a couple of days ago using a Panasonic DVX100. The camera operator set the speed for 24fps, saying it would look more like film, and used anamorphic sqeeze. When I import the footage, though, the person's movement is jumpy, and the audio doesn't seem to match completely. I used DV-NTSC 32KHZ Anamorphic Basic for the capture.
Can anyone make a suggestion for the correct settings for import?

More likely the audio should be 48K, and you don't use FireWire Basic with this camera. Anamorphic is correct.

  • Cannot see video without video camera connected, already imported Video

I imported my Video from my Video Camera, but after Editing my Video, when I try to share the video, or create a file, a message appears that says "This Item cannot be shared while referancing media on the camera". Ive made made many movies with prior versions of IMovie, now I updated to 10.0.3, If I disconnect the camera, all the Clips have a Question Mark. Seems like the file is not saved to my Hard Drive.

I can't even see the VPs in order to play them.
Try placing the podcasts in a test playlist and resync your iPod. If neither the playlist nor the files appear on the iPod, they were likely not copied.

  • Problem importing video footage on to iMovie

I have just bought a Sanyo Xacti camcorder and have just imported my first videos on to the Macbook. Weirdly, only about 40% of the product seems to have been imported, ie. if a piece of film lasts 40 seconds on the Sanyo only 18 seconds is imported on to the Macbook.
Strangely, this is not the case if I use iphoto, where the entire film seems to be imported.
Help! Any ideas why imovie is not importing the full video recordings?

I have similar problem importing from Sony camcorder to iMovie9. Four short videos are on the camera, but only the last one imported. I use Import All, but the other videos still don't show in iMovie, so I also can't see them to manually select them. Should have enough processing speed. Also, have plenty of memory. Any ideas?

  • My camera will does not appear in the drop down for importing videos even though it is listed as a supported camera - sony hdr-xr260

I am trying to import video footage from my sony camera on to imovie. The camera does not appear on the drop down when i connect it to the pc via usb. Anyone any ideas?

I'm using a zr500 via firewire and it doesn't recognize it either. Are you using firewire?

  • Premiere 6.02 - can't import video clips from a different editing program

If anyone has an answer I would really appreciate it. I am using Premiere 6.02 and XP. I have a 80 GB hard drive, 256 mb ram, and 1.7ghz. I have about 9 minutes of footage that I captured on MGI's videowave 4, which came bundled with my computer from Dell. It seems that I have to import the entire 9 minute clip from videowave into premiere to be able to edit it with premiere. I have been able to carefully make a few very broad edits of this 9 minutes in my premiere timeline, however, everytime I try to open it up I can't even make a single move before premiere is not responding and it has to close down. Is there anyway around this so I can utilize this 9 minutes by adding audio tracks, fades, and specific cuts? I have to be able to use this footage. Any suggestions would be great. Also, are there any chat rooms that exist where people discuss troubleshooting issues with premiere? Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Thanks for the help. I'm in a bit of a tough situation right now.Again I have xp with 1.7 ghz, 256 mb ram, and 2 hard drives ( 40 gb and 80gb) with approx. 75 gigs free space. I'm trying to save about 12 minutes offootage that i captured with videowave 4 from being totally useless. I know you suggested to me that i convert from avi 1 files (videowave) to avi 2files (the only files premiere 6.0 accept apparently). I haven't been able to find anywhere online that has the software to do that with. My other alternative, considering the original footage on my camera has long since been erased, is to export from videowave to my camera and then import that footage into premiere and then i would be set. I wish I could. I couldn't get videowave to recognize how to "produce video" so I uninstalled and reinstalled. Now I am able to get all the way to the point where I'm simply supposed to choose "output to dv" under the output menu. When I click the dropdown menu the only option available is "full screen", which I tried anyway. It does play the footage on full screen, but it certainly doesn't capture the footage to my camera. I've looked everywhere on the videowave web site and their solutions are brief, difficult to understand, and inconclusive. Oh, something that sounds like a problem is when I reinstalled videowave it said something about missing a indeo codec. I looked for it in my video codec properties and found a couple of versions, but what I gathered from online research was that I might need indeo codec xp 5.2 (seeing as how I'm running xp) which costs $15. I thenlooked onlineto find that codec for free somewhere to no avail. HELP!!!! THANKS!!
