Cannot switch to local admin on MDS9513

FDBEMF5C1(config)# aaa authentication login default local

Hi, may I suggest you to do a new user, but not an administrator, and check if the problems are still there? If yes, you seem to have an Internet connection problem, for the first one. The second one (the screenshot you've post) may come from lost local
path of local account. I hope this helps.

  • DFS - The replication group cannot be created - insufficient permissions - NOT DOMAIN ADMIN, LOCAL ADMIN

    Hi,
I am trying to setup DFS replication on tow servers. I am local admin on the servers but NOT domain account. Is it possible to create Replication group anyway? or should i contact the Domain administrator to the job?
    Thanks

    Hi,
We cannot use local administrator to create a dfs replication group. By default, Domain Admins group can create a dfs replication group. You could also delegate to a user or group the ability to create replication groups and the user must add to the local Administrators
    group on the namespace server.

Hi, I have a window 8.1 machine with only a local admin user. Accidentally, the user id got locked due to three incorrect attempts and not i cannot get in to the machine. To reset the password, i tried to use the password reset USB from other machine as
i cannot create from the same machine but it didn't work. I also tried to change the password through command prompt but
Please suggest how I can reset the Password or unlock the userID of the local admin user.

    Hi,
A locked-out account cannot be used until it is reset by an administrator or until the lockout duration for the account has expired.
If you remember the password, you may type the password after the lockout duration for the account has expired.
If you forget the password, please refer to the link below:

  • How to Reset Password of User while not connected to Domain using Local Admin Account

How to Reset Password of User while not connected to the Domain using Local Admin Account
(I have the use of a local admin account), and I want to help a user reset their password who has logged in the PC and had their credentials cached, but forgot this password.
    In Local Admin Account :
When I go to Control Panel, users, users, manager user ; I cannot see any users in this window except the local admin account, and, so I cannot reset a user password this way.
When I go to lusrmgr.msc, then users ; the local admin account will display only.
If I go to command prompt and type "net user", this will not display any users who have logged in to the computer, and so I cannot use "net user" to reset a password.
I don't want to use any disks, 3rd party programs, or create a VPN connection to the domain.  I just want to help a user who calls in and forgets their password.

    Hello Keith,
I know this is an old thread but I'm trying to better understand how I could change the domain password while not on the network. What I'm getting from your post is that you:
    1. Create a local user account (not a domain user)
    2. Login with that local user account
    3. Connect to the VPN while logged in as a local user
    4. Log out of the local account and login with the domain credentials
Now, my question is based on the assumption that the password created on the local account is the same password that one will use to login to the domain account? Also, is the local user account the same as the domain account?
    Thanking you in advance!

  • Is it possible to disallow RDP for one member of local admins group?

    Hello:
I have an application server which has a service account that is in the local admins group. Is it possible to disallow only that particular service account from being able to RDP into the server? Server is Windows Server 2003 SP2. Basically, I'm trying to
bypass this: Members of the local Administrators group can connect even if they are not listed. I understand that anyone using the service account could undo any restrictions I make, so what I'm trying to do would just be
a deterrent. I cannot disable RDP altogether since our regular sys admins need to be able to RDP into the server. Thank you.

What if you specified the user and denied them rights to RDP to the server.  A deny overrides every other permission, and if you can do this, then only that one user would not be able to RDP into the server, but other admins would be able to.

  • Switched to local language cause J4W hang

    Hi,
I'm doing the PoC at customer site and got some feedbacks from users that when they switch to local language using grave accent
jabber sometime will hang and they cannot do anything except to close jabber and reopen it.
    They're using Windows 7 SP1 and J4W 9.1.3, IM&P 9.1.1.10000-8.
I also tested with Windows XP SP3 and got the same issue (Already update all available patch from MS update)
    Anyone got the same problem?
    Regards,
    Tinnakorn

    Hi,
Sorry it's taken a week to get back, I've tried to be as thorough as possible getting some results. I've attached a picture of the sub vi block diagram that I use to write the data to the local datasocket manager. The sequences either side of the datasocket write are there to record the time before and after the write. To test the operation of the datasocket write alone I replaced the variant input to the writer with a "Hello World" constant, it ran for 24 hours without failing. I repeated this test and tried starting / stopping other services such as Oracle that use the network and found that was also ok. I ran the entire system again and the problem reoccured. I stopped each of the four data sources in turn and found after stopping a PXI controller the problem disappeared. Communication with this controller is by a TCP/IP link rather than datasocket.
I have tried changing port nos. etc. but the problem doesn't go away. This PXI controller looks after thermocouple and RTD type measurements and if a channel is not connected it produces NaN errors occasionally. I detect these and trap them but I wondered if it is the "quality" of the data conversion to variant that is causing the writer to hang.

  • Clients local admin user is managed - how can it be unmanaged

Hi. I have a local user on all my client machines called admin with admin rights. Have had this same user with same password for many years for over 300 client machines from emacs to intel macs. With the 10.6.3-5 server update (major issues for the last6 months) with 10.6.2-5 intel imac clients, logging in as admin gives me a reduced dock. just finder and trash. Every use of any applications comes up with "you dont have permission to use the application "xyz". with 3 buttons Always Allow, Allow once and OK. entering admin and password always results in a second box with the same message. entering admin and password then allows me to use it. This behaviour does not happen on 10.5.8 clients and has never happened before.
In system preferences it says administrator, admin is managed. clicking the lock and authenticating allows me to access the tick for Enable parental controls. If I click on the tick to remove it, it comes up with the message. "You cannot enable parental controls for an adminstrator account. Create a new user account etc." It is unticked but the tick comes back on restarting the system preferences and even restarting the computer immediately.
I have tried deleting managed prefs etc but to no avail. I have tried removing the computer from the network account server and I get my dock back and can use applications but it still says I am a managed user. and I need the network account server for student logins. Any thoughts how to unmanaged local admin users on client machines to get back to the way it has been since 10.2.4 clients!!!

Did you try creating a new admin user, and then using that new account to make the Change to unmanage your "admin" account?
I don't think osx will let you create anaccount called admin these days, as security precaution. Perhaps that has something to do with your problem.

  • Why would a JNLP require local admin rights?

I'm working as a technical support contact for a user working on a third-party company's web app, which is a JNLP. (I.e.: this is a JNLP I have no control over and no idea how to use, but the goal is simply to get it to launch.)
When I am a local admin, I am able to run the JNLP without issue. If I am not a local admin, the application starts to load... the Web Start appears with the application's logo, name, and a few JARs being loaded. Then, nothing. It closes without any errors, and I'm unsure of where I could find any logs with a trace.
Now, here's the plot twist: the same conditions apply to the Java Console itself. That is, if I am not a local admin, and I try to run the console, Internet Explorer closes. No error, nothing in the event log.
And, another twist: as I tried this across multiple workstations (Terminal servers, actually, running Server 2003 SP2) I discovered one has a different Java build. The problem occurs across several servers running Java 1.6.0_03. The one that's running 1.5.0_09 does NOT have this problem - the JNLP runs fine, and the console runs fine. IE is the same build (5730.11) on all.
I'm not even sure where to begin. I don't know where the find relevant log files, I can't run the console, and there is no obvious way to get general support for a Java issue (technically it has nothing to do with this vendor's JNLP if even the console won't run!) except this jumble of forums. Any and all advice is appreciated.

for troubleshooting failure on particular machines, look at the FAQ:
    http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/guides/javaws/developersguide/faq.html#602
But it seems like your problems are sooner than would result in any trace file output.
If the browser cannot show the java console, then it fails to initialize the java plug-in, so I would suggest trying stand alone java applications.
1.) can you launch from a command line "java -version"
2.) if you can, can you launch "java java.awt.Frame" it should reply NoSuchMethodError: "main" .
3.) if that works, try downloading the JDK and run a stand alone demo application from the demos directory such as SeingSet2.
(cd into C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_04\demo\jfc\SwingSet2 , and run "java -jar SwingSet2.jar"
If you can't do all of that, then java install is messed up, and so you would have no chance of running applets or jnlp applications.
by the way, what os and hardware are you running on, and what version(s) of java are installed.
    /Andy

  • Windows 7 remote desktop connection cannot logoff the local user

Windows 7 remote desktop connection cannot logoff the local user
    Remote Desktop connection:
(This experience is from Windows 7 remote to Windows Embedded Standard 7 computer)
I used Remote Desktop to try to log on to a Windows 7 (WES7E) computer and someone is already logged on locally (Console Session), I saw a message like this:
"Another user is currently logged on to this computer.  If you continue, this user has to disconnect from this computer.  Do you want to continue?"
    I click on Yes.
Then I saw "Please wait for [username] to respond".  No action from the logged-on local user, I waited for 30 seconds, then I was able to login the computer and at the same time was able to disconnect the logged-on local user.
    Question:
    1. "Another user is currently logged on to this computer..." message doesn't show me the actual logged-on user name.  Is there any way to show the user name in this pop-up message?
    2. After waiting for 30 seconds, I was able to login the computer and the logged-on local user is disconnected, however this local user is never been logged-off.  I wanted to logoff the local user (with Console Session) when I made the connection remotely
to the computer from remote desktop (Just like Windows XP)  Is there any group policy can change the behavior?
The policies I have looked at are:
Local Computer Policy | Computer Config | Admin Templates | Windows Components | Remote Desktop Services|Connections|Deny
logoff of an administrator logged in to the console session => disabled
    Regards,
    Mei Davis

    Hi ,
These behavior is by design. There is no way to change that. Thank you for your understanding.

  • Windows 7 deployment- Local Admin password not working, no way to assign domain admins

I have SCCM 2012 configured for OS deployment of a Windows 7 64x enterprise image. I am using boot media (cd) since PXE boot was not an option in this office. Deployment seems to work fine except that despite selecting "Enable the account and specify
the local administrator password" I cannot login to the imaged system as Administrator. I tried several different passwords, and leaving the password field blank. Because of this I cannot add the domain admins as local admins and thus I cannot change
any major settings on the PC. I have created multiple task sequences, redeployed the source files, tried two different machines (a desktop and a laptop) and have disabled or adjusted just about every part of the task sequence at least once.
I'm pasting a recent SMSTS.log file, though it has an error 0x80070002 error in it I am not sure if this is related.
Any suggestions on how to remedy this issue, or workarounds to assign local admins would be helpful. I have already tried adding in some command lines like "cmd /c net localgroup administrators /add "etoo\Administrators" and "cmd /c net
localgroup administrators /add "localhost\username"" to various points in the sequence without any success.

I suspect that your keyboard layout isn't configured correctly so that's why your "Enable the account and specify the local administrator password" doesn't work, check the keyboard layout on the login screen of the client you're trying to log in to...
There are several ways of adding local admins to the client during  OS deployment:
"Apply the windows settings" -task sequence step
    unattend.xml (http://sybaspot.com/the-complete-guide-to-preparing-a-windows-7-deployment-image-using-audit-mode-and-sysprep-with-an-unattend-xml-answer-file/)
"Run a commandline" -task sequence step, after the Setup Windows & ConfigMgr step (cmd /c net localgroup "Administrators" "domain\user" /add)
    And after OS deployment:
    Restricted groups group policy (http://www.windowsecurity.com/articles-tutorials/windows_os_security/Using-Restricted-Groups.html)

  • Help Switching from Local to Microsoft account.

So I just recently bought this Asus T100. I set everything up and it was working fine with my microsoft account. Then a few days later, when I used my mail app a message said that said to try again later. I tried to
log back in a few days later and it said the same. It then said the same thing when using the music app. I searched online and it said that I should switch my password. I did that but no luck with signing in. So I decided to switch to a local account then
log back in to the microsoft account to maybe get it to the way it was. It now gives me either an error saying that the service is unavailable or it get that it cannot switch error code 0xd000072. I've gotten it so many times I have it memorized. Anyway, I
have tried doing the troubleshooter and tried doing the firewall thing and still no results. It seems like everyone gets their error resolved after the use the troubleshooter, and not me, sigh. I have no clue what to do to resolve this issue. What shoulld
    I do now?

You cant disable it you have to un-install it (put it back after if you must)

  • Preventing local admin from changing root password

Is it possible to prevent a local admin from changing the root password? I would like to set up a computer so that the user has admin rights, but cannot change the root password via a terminal shell to gain root access.

I can't provide you with details, but I'm sure that all you need to do is to edit the sudoers file. It needs to be edited with <visudo> when logged in as root in a Terminal. The location is </private/etc/sudoers>, but you don't need to know that when using <visudo>. From a first look I'd suppose you only have to uncomment the %admin line, but better get some more information. I never did this myself.
