Cannot Text from "Contacts"

I am only able to text individuals on the AT&T network form my contacts. If I try to text a friend it comes back saying "Error Invalid" and states that I need to use a 10 digit mobile number. I am able to text from the SMS Text App, but cannot reply.
I restored the iPhone. AT&T and Apple have not helped at all. Help!!!

FYI! I was on w/ tech support from 2pm-10pm fixing this issue of not being able to text from my contacts. I could text if I manually entered the number, but I could not reply once they replied to me.
We had to back up all of my contacts, pictures, etc and wipe out my phone. We started from a brand new phone. It worked! So if it happens to you, back everyhting up through outlook, windows address book, and right click on your phone icon to back everything up. I cant remember how he backed up my photos, but he did and then we cleaned it out, added everything back in and it works great now! What pain in the ___.

I cannot text one contact, my father, who is on the same account as me. I have Moto X, contact has iPhone 5. Have deleted contact and turned off/on phone. Texts from either end do not go through.

Does your father receive texts from other people? Could he possibly have you blocked (inadvertently or otherwise?). Call Verizon customer service and have them check the provisioning on his line to ensure texting is fully enabled.
Is he trying to send you an iMessage text? Have him turn off iMessages and send a regular text.

Do Not Disturb -- any way to get texts from Contacts?

I love the Do Not Disturb feature and have it set to receive calls from people on my Contacts list. I was under the impression that it would also allow texts from my Contacts to come through, but I don't hear any alert when I receive a text. Does Do Not Disturb only work for incoming phone calls and not texts?

Yes, I know about the half moon. I just wondered if there was a way to get text messages.
DND is a great feature and has saved my sanity from all the political calls I've been receiving.
Does anyone know if they plan to incorporate texts into a future version of DND? Am I the only one who wants this??

What Meg is trying to say is that the procedure is the same to send a message to any phone. If you send a message to an iPhone using the Messages app, the iPhone automatically sends it as an iMessage. If you send a message to a Samsung phone, the messaging app will send it as an SMS, which works on any phone. If that's not working, go to Settings > Messages and make sure "Send as SMS" is turned on. If it still doesn't work, contact your carrier.

Spam text from contact

When my friend sends me a text, it looks fine on the front of my phone and then I open text to reply and there is always the same spam message. That being said, I always delete the spam and open a next text box before replying. I do not have the problem happen with any other contacts, just the one. How can I stop this spam from happening.

Sorry. I don't understand what you're seeing? What is the "spam" you're seeing? Is your friend using some kind of "free messaging app"? If so, it may be supporting the app developer by sending out advertising with every "free" message.

Anyone have trouble sending a text from contacts?

I have tried to send a text to a contact. It says to re-enter a valid 10 digit no.
It will act like it's sending, but will give me that in a reply.I have even tried completelly deleting the contact an re-entering it. However if I enter the number
Manually from the keypad it will work. It recognizes it's one of my contactsand autumatically enters that contacts name.

I don't do a lot of text bit it appears to be just one contact. When I manually enter the number the contact persons name pops up. My phone recognized that it is the same as the "contact" but everytime I send direct from the contact list it rejects the text.

Cannot Text from an 888#

New to forum. Have new 8350i through SoutherLinc. I have an 888 number for my business. I have had it for years. The southernlinc people tell me I cannot receive text on the phone. I can send but not receive. They are saying I will have to have to have a regular number in order to do this. Does anybody have a comment on this.

Solved! This issue was solved by a SouthernLink tech. Very savy. She moved my 888 # into the first position, and assigned my second # in the second position. I can send sms messages as though I had one number, whether it goes out on the 888 or second # I do not know. The workaround to receive sms messages is that I had to give the second number to all my contacts. I suggested putting my name and TEXT beside it in their address books. This has worked out quite well. Thanks for your comments. Instead of responding after the first day or so, I wanted to give it a reasonable time before I knew that it worked and before I posted here.

E71 Cannot dial from Contacts List

With my E71 phone I cannot dial numbers directly from my Contacts List. I have to write number down then manually dial. What have I set wrongly? How can I correct this?

I found the answer myself. Just switch the phone off and on again to make it re-boot. Frustrating but just like a computer! or maybe it was taking it 30,000 feet into the air that cured it!!

Cannot dial from contact list

Received new 4S Iphone to replace recently stolen phone. I did sync with my lap top and when contacts loaded to phone the format is different than it was on other phone. No dashes no area code just all straight numbers. When I try to call from my contacts I am unable to call anyone; however, I can manually dial the number and it works. what do I need to do?

Try dialing *228 and then option 1. Be sure to wait until you a get a message saying that it was successful.

Hello and welcome to the forums;
Try opening the Messaging application and either typing their phone number in or searching for their contact from the New Message screen. I've seen some cases where that is needed for a first message, then it should work correctly after.

On some server somwhere my AppleID still tells people they should send me iMessages. What is the solution to this issue? Deleting my AppleID would work to solve this issue, but I cannot ever delete the ID? What can Apple do for this?

If you did not erase your apps and data before getting rid of your old phone, try using Find My Phone and erasing everything remotely. See if this works.

amyhs, thanks for those details. This is certainly quite odd that this has been going on so long and we definitely want to get to the bottom of this. Now, you stated that you have reached out to technical support and spoke with a tier two technical support representative. At this time, what actions or troubleshooting steps were taken? Are you aware if a ticket with our network technicians was ever created? As well, have you ever previously had an iPhone and are you aware if the users that are unable to message you are using iMessage?

Quit the App by opening multi-tasking bar, holding down the icon for the App for about 3-5 seconds, and then tap the red circle with the white minus sign.
Relaunch the App and try again.
Restart the device. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Reset the device. (Same article as above.)
Restore from backup. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 (If you don't have a backup, make one now, then skip to the next step.)
Restore as new device. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137 For this step, do not re-download ANYTHING, and do not sign into your Apple ID.
Test the issue after each step. If the last one does not resolve the issue, it is likely a hardware problem.

I cannot text all my contacts from my iPad

I curretly can only send and receive text from a few of my contacts from my Ipad. I can text all from my iphone. I used to be able to text all of them from the iPad.

Even when your iPad has a cellular modem, Text messaging does not work on an iPad.
