Cannot track motion on R3D footage

Hi,
I am working in After Effects CS5 and I was motion tracking some footage. After Effects crashed and I restarted. Suddenly I cannot select any of my .r3d files to be used as a motion source for After Effects tracker. All my tracking data is still available but I cannot keep tracking (the track motion and stabilize motion buttons aren't available). I can track motion on other types of footage but my .r3d footage just stopped working.

Other than what OS and project specifics like codec and frame rate, the first question I'd ask would be what has changed? When something that was working just fine suddenly stops it's almost always because of a software update, network configuration change, or new software installation. For example, all of a sudden I couldn't open or quick view PDF's. A beta version of some software that I commonly use was recently installed. This software has little or no direct ties to Acrobat, but as soon as I removed it my Acrobat reader, preview, and everything else that uses pdf started working again.

AE CC 2014 v13.0
PC with Nvidia k4000 and 32GB RAM
Working with 4k R3D footage.
I'm using track motion (transform - position, scale and rotation) on a precomped layer that has 2 circle effects on black background. (I'm trying to extract warp stabilizer data because the stabilizer works great for 98% of the shot but does something silly in the middle of the shot so I want to key frame the stabilization).
The tracker seems to be working but after a while I can't stop the tracker or do anything else within AE. The program hasn't crashed but it fails to respond to any commands. Even once the tracker gets to the end of the clip and stops I still can't do anything.
Really I just need the position, scale and rotation data from an applied warp stabilization of a certain clip. Anyone have an alternative way of doing this?
Really wish warp stabilizer had some key frame control!

Take your RED footage out of the equation. this stuff is flaky in CC 2014 and may have all sorts of ill side effects. Also check the track settings and the duration. Perhaps it's simply too long and AE takes forever to create those gigazillion keyframes...

Have you tried randomly using Google - Device Manager? Though it will not track the Droid Maxx when it's turned off. It will show the last time the phone was turned on. To see if that coincides with the last time you had the phone on.

Trouble with R3D footage.

Hello, I'm tying to import R3D footage into Premiere CS6 on Mac but keep getting the preview in source monitor error message. I've downloaded the RedPreview for CS6 on Mac but it's a 'bundle' and I've got no idea how to actually apply that to Premiere. Any thoughts? I desperately need to get this footage working in Premiere.

I have bought Motion 5, but since then I cannot open Motion 4. What must I do? Have Motion 5 also templates?

It has moved your original Motion 4 app to a new folder, Final Cut Studio I believe. You have to locate that and move all the apps back into your applications folder. You should be able to launch Motion 4, although not at the same time as Motion 5.

Track motion not working with Shape layer

Track motion works fine with a text layer but does not seem to work with a shape layer. Am I doing something wrong?

Here's what I'm doing. Let me know if you get the same results:
I import a video sequence. I put it in a new comp. I create a new shape layer (a rectangle). I motion track the sequence (I click on Track Motion). At this point, my rectangle disappears. I click on the play button (analyze forward) and AE creates tracking points. I click on Edit Target and I select the shape layer and click OK. I click on Apply. A motion Track Apply Options window pops up, I click OK. My rectangle is still gone, nowhere to be seen. When I do the exact same steps with a text layer, the text will reappear when I click OK at the end. Not the shape layer.

Premiere Pro CC's "Link Media" is not finding .R3D footage in separate folders

I have FCP .XML files for 5 reels of a feature film using 4k R3D footage. When I import these into PPCC on my PC, all of the footage is missing - understandably so because the drive name is different, etc..
When I use Link Media to associate the files, I have all of the check boxes checked, but it still only Locates the one requested file and doen't locate any other media files even though they are in
a neighboring sub-folder. Let me explain the file tree:

When I point PPCC at the 1st segemented .R3D file, it links the media, but it doesn't link any media outside that source folder. Why can't I point LOCATE at the REEL5 folder and have it search all of the sub-folders for the unlinked media?
It looks like this should work, but it doesn't. Do I need to manually link every clip because of the folder structure?
Help me Obi-wan Adobe, you're my only hope.

Great news. The workflow at the head of the this thread is still awesome with Premiere Pro importing the FCP XML BECAUSE...
1) once I pointed at the first clip's location, PP found clips that starts with the same prefix letter grouping, so in the above example, finding A011_C003_0124J8.RDC, the remaining A011_
     files & folders were auto-linked. I did have to point at about 60 files, per reel, but that is a small price to pay compared to having to rebuild all of the reels from scratch and eyeballing everything else.
     (I decided to binge-watch the first 5 epsidoes of HELIX while linking files, so a WIN-WIN).
2) importing the XML, the entire timeline with every video layer was brought in with all of the clip positioning, scale, and speed info maintained including pan & scan keyframing.
3) I then import the PP project in AE for finishing; I simply change the Comp setting to [2048x1536, 1.33 aspect], scale the shots accordingly via simple math, compose titles & credits, swap in VFX,
     add head & tail leader, and export DPX for color.
I am very impressed with how PP was able to translate the XML for AE.

Cannot track my shipment

I signed up for the ipod nano (1st gen) replacement program and I received an email stating that the delivery was due to Friday (13th January). The email included a tracking number (which apple states should be active in 24 hours – which it isn't).
The thing is, the mail says: "Din produkt skickades via , med spårningsnummer [tracking number], som bör vara aktivt inom 24 timmar".
In English: "Your product was sent via , with the tracking number [tracking number], which should be active in 24 hours".
Ergo, I don't know which company who handles the delivery. And due to the inactive tracking number (clickable) I cannot track the delivery nor find an estimated delivery...
Anyone who knows which company who handles the most (?) deliveries in Sweden? Or knows what to do?

Export settings for high quality R3D footage

Greetings Adobe Community.
I've been working on a Project using 5K R3D footage directly into Adobe Premiere Pro. Now it's time to export and I'd like to know what would the output settings need to be in order for the footage not to loose quality and have a relatively compact size at the same time.
I am working on a 5 minute short. I exported a 35 second scene to a Quicktime ProRes4444 codec. Beautiul quality, but the file was a little over 1Gb. Should I export QuickTime or Mpeg?
I know ProRes 4444 will give me huge files... should I go 422?

I wouldn't throw away valuable chroma info going to 422 if you have 5K footage.
I'd find a AVC-Intra or other codec that is 444.
MPEG2 doesn't support 444
h.264 does but I'm not aware of any Premiere plugin encoder that does 444.
I think you're better off staying with the ProRes444. 1Gig isn't that big since 1Tb is less than $100 these days. Heck, 1Gig fits easy onto a usb thumb drive - so shipping it to someone is still dirt cheap.
for 5 minutes that's 10x more (5min = approx 10 x 35seconds) so you're still only looking at 10Gbytes total size.
If storage is important stay with an 444 format with some other non-ProRes/DNxHD format like h.264 (assuming you can find a 444 solution).

Sequence Error - ProRes/R3D footage

I am trying to edit ProRes HQ files converted from R3D @ 2048x1152.
Everything I do comes up with this message:
Sequence Error: Unable to add clip to sequence. Possible media limits problem in clip or sequence.
When I try create a subclip - when I try dragging subclips back into the timeline - just trying to drop selected audio tracks onto the timeline - MOVING a clip in the timeline... pretty much anything.
Any help would be appreciated, it seems like it's just a glitch in the software, but I need a solution!

sounds like a timecode problem where the limits of the original master clip were well beyond the in/out points of the clip you have in hand. We get the error when we've had to reload a clip that rolled off the end of the tape. The system sees the original media in and out points. We load the clip by hand and then relink the footage to the new clip. We get the error because the new media end point is earlier than the old one. We ignore it. Sound like something may have changed in your loading process.

How do I track motion on a video with inconsistent track points?

I have a video of a teacher in front of a chalk board. There is one camera motion when the teacher walks from one side of the chalk board to the other. I want to add graphics on the chalk board and make it look like they are pinned on the board. What's the most accurate way to track this motion for my graphics? I'm a real newb to motion tracking and actually haven't been successful at it so this one may take some extra explaining for me.
One think I tried was using the motion tracking behavior and I placed three track points at the bottom left, top left, and top right of the chalk board. I couldn't ad one on the top right because the teacher was in the way and at one point, the teacher walks in front of the bottom left motion track point, confusing it and loosing focus on what it's tracking. Am I making this harder than it has to be or can it be done accurately?
Here are a couple frames to show the (simple) panning from the right of the chalk board to the left. Other than this pan, the rest of the footage is still.

I don't do MAC's, but have you contacted their tech support?
I had this same problem on a PC notebook (TOSHIBA) which didn't have the TILDE key. One program I had needed the TILDE key for a major, often used function. The issue never got resolved.

Send Clip To Motion, becomes Unrendered Footage

I sent my clip to Motion now in my FCP project the footage has become unrendered I have quit and restarted FCP and no luck, anyone know what the problem could be?

If you want to continue with that method you should...
use more that one video track, alternate each clip in an AB fashion, drag out the handles, then send.

My iPad was stolen yesterday. I cannot track it while using find my iPhone is saying is off.

My iPad was stolen at the house yesterday. I have reported the matter to law enforcement. I have tried to track it using find my iPhone from my iPhone and it shows that the iPad is off. My work and important documents are there. Anyone who can assist on how I can trace it?

You cannot trace it if it is offline.
Hopefully you have a passcode on your iPad and you have backups of these documents.
