Cannot transfer iPad purchases to computer

I purchased a song on the iTunes Store via my iPad 2 last night, and the song won't transfer to my iMac when I sync the iPad to the Mac.  I activated both of my iTunes accounts, but, still, the song won't transfer. How can I back it up on my Mac?

If the apps are not in your iTunes library yet - and they are not - hence this problem - then it may not be a good idea to restore. You can restore but may have to download the apps again. You can read this article about what iTunes stores in the backup.
All of your app data is saved in the backup but not the apps themselves. Anytime you restore from a backup you want to make sure that all of your content has been transferred to iTunes so that you can SYNC that content again after you restore the data from the backup.
At least that has always been my understanding. I did restore from a backup once myself a few months ago because I was having issues with an Exchange email account. I deleted the account from my iPad and had no success reloading it onto the device. I backup/transfer purchases/sync with iTunes virtually every night so I restored from my backup of the previous evening. All went smoothly but I did sync the content again as well.
Here is the article about backups.

Since downloading a new version of itunes I cannot transfer music from my computer to my ipod

Same here but not sure if it is for the same reason. I have trouble downloading the file and hence, it is not on my computer but in "the cloud" and it seems like that is the reason that it cannot transfer the file.

How do you transfer IPAD purchases to my Ipod?

Transfer the purchases from the iPad knot iTunes and then sync the iPod with iTunes.

You can download the purchases directly on the iPod as well as long as you use the same Apple ID that you bought them with.

  • ITunes - purchases cannot transfer to iPod because computer is not authoriz

iTunes says my purchases cannot transfer to my iPod because my computer is not authorized to play them.
Yet, after putting my password in to "authorize" the computer the purchases play just fine. Still, they cannot be transfered.
I took screenshots to email them to support, but as always they didn't know how to help me. I wish I could show them here, here is the description at least.
Itunes1. Here you can see that my iTunes is up to
date, the songs have been purchased, and they are
playing, thus showing that the computer IS activated.
Itunes2. Here you can see that my iPod software is up
    to date.
Itunes3. Here you can see the error message that I've
been getting, that my computer IS NOT authorized. But
from jpg 1, you can see that it obviously IS
authorized. Now can you see my frustration? Can someone
PLEASE help me fix this problem?

additional info:  I looked into similar complaints.  1 suggested that something is wrong with the files.  Delete them off of computer and divice (but they are not on my divice anymore) and then download them again from iTunes purchase history.  Went in to check iTunes purchases to make sure the songs would be there if I did follow these steps.  Well, NONE of them are in my purchase history.....probably the real problem here.  I had an original iPod Nano and then upgraded to my current iTouch.....same computer for both.  Could there have been a problem at the point of switching over to the iTouch?  That doesn't make sence to me because it is through iTunes and it was the same account for both.  I thought I'd be smart and put all the songs in a playlist and burn to a CD and them load them back in that way.....but I was not authorized to burn to a CD....go figure.  Any idease would be great!!

  • Woke up to a blue screen computer.  Had to wipe everything off.  Now cannot transfer my purchases to my iphone without wiping out my library on my phone.  is this correct?

    Heellloooooooooooooooooo..............................................

    Restore that backup you made?
You should be able to recover the media with the tips in  this post from forum regular Zevoneer but I'm not sure what the implications are for your application settings. You can probably transfer your purchases into a newly authorised library, backup the device, recover any other media using third party tools, then restore the device from the backup. That might switch the assocation of the device to the new machine but I couldn't say for sure.

  • Cannot Sync iPad Purchased Items b/c not Authorized but it is

After updating to iOS 5 on my iPad 2, updating my i7 iMac to the latest OS version (and a recent re-install of Lion b/c of an unrelated problem during a firmware update) and iTunes version I get an error that states:
"Some of the purchased items on the iPad "my name", including "AirPort", could not be transferred to your iTunes library because you are not authorized for them on this computer."
It goes on to list 8 other purchased apps that I cannot transfer/sync --> "TWCable TV", "Trailers", "Teavana", "TBS", "Pages", "Mac|Life", "Cut the Rope", "Civ Rev".
This computer is authorized! I deauthorized all computers and then re-authorized this computer. It is currently the only "authorized computer". Still, I am unable to sync. This is frustrating.
I haven't experienced this problem with either my wifes iPhone 4 or mine.
    Thanks for any advice.

    iMac - 27" - 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7; 8 GB RAM; OS 10.7.2
    iTunes 10.5
    iPad 2 w/ iOS 5

Based on some helpful information that was recently posted on another discussion, I found a solution.
I have my iMac authorized under my Apple ID user name.
I then repeated the process and authorized it under my me.com user name as well. It now claims that I have 2 computers authorized, but it backed up the purchased Apps. I am unsure why, but this seemed to work.
What I don't know at this time is whether authorizing under the me.com user name will alter anything else withint my iTunes.

  • Transfer ipad from one computer to another?

Hi, im having issues finding information on this topic.
I'm getting a new computer and am planning on copying all of the files from my current iMac to my new macbook pro. I want my iPad to now sync to the new computer.
Is there a way I can do this without having to completely reset my iPad and having to copy everything over again?

After reading http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1202 I thought this was true, but I can't make it work.
Take my son's iPhone; it's normally synced to his iMac. When he visits my house, I want to transfer songs from my computer to his iPhone.
If I plug it into my MBP, it appears in iTunes. When I click the "Manually manage…" checkbox and hit "Apply", I get the prompt asking me whether I want to erase the iPhone or not. I click "cancel" and the checkbox unchecks. This is not the behavior specified in http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1202, which led me to think I could do this. What am I missing?

  • Cannot transfer app purchased on iPad to PC

I purchased an app at the App store on my iPad. I can't sync it back to my PC running Windows 7 and iTunes 9.1. I've cleared the sync history, and deauthorized and reauthorized my PC, and it makes no difference. Apps purchased on my PC can be transferred to the iPad, but not the other way around.
When syncing, I get an error about Some of the purchased items on the ipad "name" including "Program" could not be transferred to your itunes library because you are not authorized to play them on this computer.
    Ralph

You will get a second message saying you won't be charged but if you're concerned, just download a free app, any one will do, first to your iPad, then try to transfer it to your PC. Presumably it won't transfer so then download it again directly through iTunes on your PC and try to transfer again.
Oh one more thing: did you register your iPad during the initial setup sync? iTunes should have asked you if you wanted to register the iPad now or later. If you picked later, maybe the iPad isn't being recognized by iTunes as an authorized device. I'm not sure my speculation is right because if that were the case, I don't think you should be able to transfer apps from PC to iPad but you can do that. But I'm just throwing out ideas. If you haven't registered the iPad yet, maybe go ahead and do so.

  • Cannot transfer TV shows from computer to iPad

I have both a iPad 1 and 2. With neither am I able to transfer TV Shows or Movies from my Mac running 10.7.2 to my iPad running iOS 5.01. Everything appears to work and sync, but nothing appears under videos on my iPads.

Update.  I have been able to (re)download the two shows by accessing the iTunes Store from my iPad.  It did not seem to charge me a second time so I guess its no longer an urgent inquiry.  However I am curious why I can click and drag songs and podcasts from my computer's iTunes library onto my iPad but not TV shows.
Although perhaps this explains why the only other show I have watched on my new iPad, a free pilot episode for a new series, was marketed as a podcast at the iTunes store.

  • Transfer phone purchase to computer?

I've tried home sharing on the new iTunes with my computer and phone (both turned on and logged into correct account), I've tried finding the file from my phone itself, and many other things, and I still can't get these 2 song purchases transfered from my iPhone to my computer.. The iTunes account on my phone recognizes that I purchased it, but it doesn't recognize it at all on my computer (logged into same iTunes account on both devices)

Homesharing has absolutely nothing to do with transferring content.
There are two ways to get the content purchased on the device to the computer.
With the device connected to the computer, right click on it in iTunes and select "Transfer Purchases".
In iTunes, select Store > Check for Available Downloads.

  • IPhone/iPod Touch update 3.0 "Cannot transfer Movie purchased on iPod...."

"...because you are not authorized to play this movie on this computer."
    Excuse me?
It's the computer I sync my iPod to.
    It's the authorized one.
Perhaps I missed a statement somewhere that iPod downloaded movie purchases cannot be transferred onto my sync computer, in which case I feel they've taken that copy-write proprietary dealie a hair too far and it tarnishes a high point in iPod updates for me,(it was one of my "wishes" for iPod that many people said wouldn't ever happen), and I feel less excited to purchase movies on my iPod, if I can't play them on my big screen iMac too.
Or maybe there is something I am doing wrong?
    1st gen iPod.
    It's iTunes 8.2....
    My computer is authorized....
    Any ideas?
Is it indeed a copyright dealie?
    THANX!!!!

    NeeeVer Mind!
It was greyed and I got that message yesterday afternoon.
Today......it's in there in my iTunes library.
And with this sync....it's copying it again to my library, as though it doesn't already know it's there.
    Hummm.
Oh well, at least I can keep my happiness about being about to download flix directly via wifi!
    YAY!

  • TS1702 After reinstalling windows, I cannot transfer app purchases to my iphone.

I had to wipe the hard drive on my computer after it got a virus that I was unable to remove. I backed everything up before wiping the hard drive. After reinstalling windows, I installed itunes and synced my iphone with my computer. Itunes recognizes that I purchased apps previously as they downloaded to my library, and I can make new purchases in the store. However, after purchasing an app, when I try to drag and drop the app to my phone through itunes, a little circle with a slash through it appears and it will not let me download the app to my phone. I can download apps through my phone, but I would like to be able to sync them with my computer as well since I have to put music on my iphone and I generally only purchase through amazon. How can I fix this? Thanks!

I am having the same issue. I tried rebooting/resetting my iPhone 4s running 5.0.1. Restarted iTunes. Still unable to update Apps.  Screen is clouded/gray.  Cannot even move the Apps on the screen. When I press/hold an App on the iPhone to make them jiggle, I use to get the circle X on the App to delete. That is no longer available.

  • When backing up iphone receive error message. cannot sync some purchases as computer is not authorized. I have authorized this computer.  any suggestions?  ps I have tried logging in first

how to authorize computer in order to sync iphone 4s
have gone to store & authoized this computer but still will not back up 11 items
    any suggestions?

Those items were probably purchased with a different Apple ID. You will have to authorize iTunes to that Apple ID also. It's OK to have content from more than one Apple ID in your iTunes library, but each of them must be authorized.
