Cannot transfer music onto 3Gs

this may be me doing something wrong....but i will explain.
Have just bought a 3GS and want to put my itunes library on it, phone is registered with carrier, shows up in iTunes, when i try and drag a purchased song into the iPhone it wont receive it
ami i doing something wrong here?

believe me i was being serious, however let me expand on my original post....
I have had many ipods and am used to just 'dragging' the tunes i want on a tune by tune basis or selecting a bunch of them and dragging them, with the iphone i can seem to do this, as you have pointed out i have to go through what seems to be a really long winded way of selecting Genre/Artist/etc or sync the entire lot 20,000+ tunes
Compared to say an ipod nano this way of syncing seems to be so much more labour intensive and makes choosing so much more difficult, that's my take on it anyway.

I just purchased a shuffle (new version). When I plug it in, itunes opens by default, and I get the message "ipod sync is complete. ok to disconnect". Then when I try to transfer anything from "music" or "just purchased" or anywhere else, nothing happens. I hit "autofill" and nothing happens. If I try to manually drag song titles to the device, a circle with a slash through it appears over the title and it doesn't transfer. Have you registered your Shuffle within iTunes? Try playing one of the songs that don't load in iTunes first and then try loading it to the Shuffle.

I have moved my iTunes library to a new Windows 7 PC and cannot transfer music from the new iTunes PC to my iPhone. The iPhone only accepts transfers from the original iTunes PC.

I have come to understand that an iPhone can have only one "daddy" iTunes PC, but have not been able to find out how to change the "daddy". When I try to "drag and drop" a song, it just does not allow me to do it (circle with line thru it). I should also mention that I just changed PC's as well. I tsnsferred all of the music files from the hdd of the old to the new. After reading some of the other posts, I think this might have more to do with the problem than the switch to itunes 10.6.3?

If you want to use automatic syncing, which is the best way to load content on an iPod, here's how to do it.
Select the iPod in iTunes. There is a row of "tabs" (buttons) starting with Summary. Next to Summary, find and click on the Music. This screen is the Music tab where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to your iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music. If your entire music library fits on the iPod, you can choose to sync Entire music library. Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres. Then...
Below that, select (checkmark) the playlists, artists, albums, and/or genres that you want on the iPod. When you click Apply, your selection syncs to the iPod. Going forward, any changes to your iTunes library that relate to your selection on the Music tab sync automatically to the iPod, when you connect it (or click the Sync button).
Here's one easy way to set it up. In your iTunes library, create a new regular playlist; call it something like "iPod Songs" (or whatever you want). From your main iTunes music library, load that iPod Songs playlist with the songs you want on the iPod. On the iPod's Music tab, select ONLY that iPod Songs playlist (under Playlists). When you click Apply, those songs sync to the iPod. Going forward, to update songs on the iPod, just update that iPod Songs playlist (add and/or remove songs) in iTunes and connect your iPod.
To load other types of content, such as podcasts and audiobooks, set up the other "tabs."

Make sure the "Sync Music Tab" is checked. If it isn't, when you check it, it will prompt you that you can only sync to one iTunes library at a time. The iPod will have to be erased to sync with the new library.

Cannot transfer music? help!

recently i had to wipe my hardrive on my laptop. as a reult i had to reinstall itunes. when i plug my ipod into my laptop itunes says it cannot transfer music unless i wipe my ipod of all its music first. i've tried physically copying the files from the ipod, tried idump and copypod. but none seem to work. it says that there are corrupted files and will only copy 32/4300 songs!! does anyone have any ideas what i should do??

Apple hopes this happens so you can buy more of their itunes. Otherwise they would've fixed this a year ago when the problem first arrived. I'm in the same boat, too many good and paid for songs...

Can't transfer music onto Zen Vision:M

I've had my Creative Zen Vision:M for a year and bought it secondhand. Recently I upgraded my computer to Ubuntu Netbook Remix 0.04, but now whenever I open up Rhythmbox or Gnomad2 with the device docked they close down seconds after loading. This means I can't transfer music onto it. Away from the computer it works fine - I can access all the different menus and sections. I've tried formatting, cleaning up and reinstalling the firmware (using another, Windows, computer), but nothing works. Is there anything else I can do to fix it's

if when you see the music as shown on your computer contains a dot next to the song/artist, it means that it has not yet successfully transferrred over, outside of your computer. Some questions to consider: what is the format of the music you are trying to import? are you running this most updated version of itunes/ipod on your comp.?

I cannot put music on my 3gs using itunes. All I get is a no entry sign and a message that says tunes cannot be transferred to this iphone. What am I doing wrong?

Are you using automatic or manual transfer of media? If you never remeber changing it, you are on automatic. You can switch it by going to your iPhone's summary page and unchecking the box mentioning media management. What I can tell you is that you have much more control over your media this way. It doesn't matter if a song is checked or not, to put on music, you plug in, find the song you would like to add, and just drag and drop it onto the name of your device on the iTunes sidebar. You should not be stopped this way. By the way, incase you don't know, hold down Ctrl to select multiple songs to move, and hold Shift to select all the songs between the two songs you select.

Your current songs should be on your computer. If you bought them from your iphone then just transfer them to your computer: File>Transfer Purchases, then sync.
