Cannot turn off fetch or push after 3.0 update

I noticed that my 3G data usage is increasing even if I didn't use my phone outside WiFi coverage. And I kept getting new emails even I didn't open my email application. I turned off push and fetch new data for both of my Gmail and Yahoo account, and set them to "manual" in "fetch new data"->"advanced". I still get new email notification automatically. I wonder it is a 3.0 bug. I have no data plan with my carrier, so this bug is really killing my wallet....

I have discovered something interesting from another, related forum discussion. This person was told that it had to do with using 3G rather than the Edge network and something about poplock.
This was happening to me on both pop and imap accounts but I thought that I would try to switch to Edge to see if that solved the problem of getting emails pushed when I made phone calls, even though I had all of my settings for push and fetch off.
Well, when I switched to Edge, I did not receive emails when I made calls so that was very interesting. Then, I decided to switch back to 3G and I am still not receiving emails when I make phone calls so that is promising.
My guess was that when I turned the phone off and on, it would revert back to getting emails pushed when I made phone calls, if I used the 3G network. Surprisingly, it didn't revert back and I still didn't get emails pushed. Had to go into mail and then, they were there, just like it used to work.
Will see how long this lasts and keep this post updated.
So, for those who do not want emails pushed, try switching to Edge network for a few minutes. Then, switch back to 3G to see if this works for you.

  • Iphone 4 is stuck in a power turning off and on cycle after trying to update to ios 6 (not on ios 6 yet) and Itunes wont recognise it =/ help's appreciated ;)

I was trying to update my iphone 4 to ios 6 yesterday, and it got stuck on the apple screen as you turn it on. What's happening is that the phone is turning on, showing the apple symbol, staying on for around 8 seconds, turning off for about 1 or 2 seconds, then repeating. Itunes won't recognise it either. Any suggestions?

Reset, hold both Home and Power buttons until the iphone restarts. If still problem, open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer with USB Cable. Hold both home and power buttons until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode. This takes about 20 seconds of holding both buttons. Click the Restore Button of iTunes.

You will have to force the iPad into recovery mode and data will be lost unless you have a backup.

    Hi NWL1,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, the iPhone won't update and is stuck. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

  • Cannot turn off passcode after ios8 upgrade - iPad mini

Upgraded iPad mini to ios8 and cannot turn off the passcode.  In settings, I can turn it off but it tells me that I need to set a passcode within 60 minutes.  It then counts down and requires me to set a passcode once 60 minutes are up.  Also does not let me change duration of passcode (from immediately to 4 hours for example).  Any thoughts on how to turn it off?  Thanks.

is this your iPad or one administered by someone else...for example if I use an iPad from work our IT policy dictates that I must use a passcode and I am not allowed to turn it off.
If it's yours, just a shot in the dark, do you have restrictions enabled? If so, go in and disable them then see if that will allow you to turn off the passcode lock.

  • Cannot turn off airport on Imac and PowerBook

I cannot turn off airport on iMac 17" intel (late 2006) and G4 powerbook. One common thing is:
I got rid off .plist files (airport related) on both machines prior to putting new AE in to mix. I set up AE and not only I cannot establish wireless on both machines I cannot turn airport on both as well. Old G4 iMac (3rd machine that was not altered) works.
What did I get rid off?
    iMac gives me this:
    AirPort Card Information:
Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x87)
    Wireless Card Locale: USA
Wireless Card Firmware Version: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (4.170.46.9)
Current Wireless Network: AirPort is currently turned off
While Network pref. and icon in menus says airport is on. (Same with powerbook)
    Any suggestions?
Just to ad to confusion. This is replacement AE. First one after firmware upgrade (7.3.2) started to misbehave (very weak signal, mostly). I did downgrade to 7.3.1 but after couple of days I went for factory one (firmware that is), and here I am.

…after waking both computers from sleep situation is reversed. Airport is off and I cannot turn it on. After restart I am back to Airport on (not able to connect, while showing networks to join) and not able to turn off.

    Try the remaining actions of:

    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

  • Cannot turn off apple tv?

After updated the firmwire, I cannot turn off (enter the sleep mode) of the Apple TV by pressing the centre circle button.  Anyone can help?

You will need to hold the pause/play button for about 5 seconds. This only works from the main menu. You can jump to the main menu by holding the menu button for a few seconds.

  • Ios 8.0.2 cannot turn off vibrate

I have an iPhone 6 Plus, on 8.0.2.  I cannot turn off vibrate, nor can I change battery view to percentage.  It will allow me to flip the switch, but nothing really happens / registers with the phone.
Vibration still on.  Battery percentage still doesn't show.
Is there any fix?  The vibrate is annoying.
    Thanks,
    Mike

Next step would be setting it up as new device without using the backup:
iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device
If it works after that, use the backup to restore from. If the problem comes back, your backup contained damaged files, causing this issue.
If still no luck, visit an Authorized Apple Service Provider to get it checked.
Any restrictions enabled in Settings/General/Restrictions? If yes, disable them and try again to change the settings.

  • Please help! I cannot turn off IPOD due to blocking message

Please help, dear Ipod Experts and better Ipod Users,
I cannot turn off the Ipod (when I click to the bottom ) anymore as following message appears:
"FireWire connections are not supported to transfer songs, connect to the USB cable provided"
Even resetting the Ipod the message appears again and again and I dont have the slightest idea what the IPOD is trying to tell me. I have regularly uploaded the songs via Itunes with the USB cable (Nothing else) and I use the official I-Fusion Sonic Impact to hear the songs in loud. Can there be the connection, because I remember that this message started appearing when the IPOD was connected to the I-Fusion.
In order to turn the IPOD I have to leave it on till it turns off due to battery deload...Very sad solution, isnt it?
Thanks so much for answers for a real desperate Ipod Fan

It sounds like you have reached the authorization limit of 5 computers.  So if you need to authorize another one, either deauthorize any other computers have authorized in the past that you still have physical access to or use the Deauthorize All option as described in this article.

    Hey ktillis88,
Thanks for the question. Based on the information you have provided, the following resource may be helpful:
    iCloud: Understanding Backup alert messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4576
"Backups for appname cannot be turned off at this time."
This message occurs if disabling Backup for an app on your iOS device does not complete successfully. Wait a few minutes and then attempt to disable Backup for the app again. If you continue to receive this alert, contact iCloud Support for assistance.
    Thanks,

  • When you turn on the ipad2 it does not start up properly.  The rotating disk that happens when you turn off the ipad appears after the apple logo comes up

When you turn on the ipad2 it does not start up properly.  The rotating disk that happens when you turn off the ipad appears after the apple logo comes up during start-up and stays there for ten minutes.  Then, the ipad will start up properly.

Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
