Cannot type existing new Sync key in entry field

I recently changed my Sync key on my desktop, but when I try to type the new Sync key into the appropriate field on the options tab for Sync on my laptop, no keyboard input is accepted. No error messages, but I can tap any key and nothing happens. The keyboard and laptop themselves work fine--in fact, I'm typing the question on the laptop now--but this problem renders Firefox Sync basically useless. If I can't sync across multiple platforms, then there's no point. For that matter, if I reinstall my OS on the desktop, if I can't enter the key, the backup for Firefox info goes away. What was the Firefox Sync dev team thinking?!

I have the same problem. The incoming mail field is grey and will not let me type in it.
Any suggestions?

But in my 'sign-in' dialog it says 'wrong sync key' but does not provide a link that says 'I have lost my sync key'. Therefore I cannot create a new key and I cannot use this feature at all. I do not want to have to create a new sync account using a different email, as I do not have a different email that I wish to use for purposes such as this. Please help. I'm using FF 5.0 on a MacBook Pro.

Unfortunately there's no option to recover your key so you could access your previous data. If you create a new Sync Key you will lost your previously synced data.
The path to get the key has changed a little bit and the article you are pointing is not totally updated. I'm going to review it with the right steps:
1- On the menu bar, click on the Firefox menu and select Preferences...
2- Click on the Sync tab.
3- Click Set up Firefox Sync and a new window will open.
4- Under I already have a Firefox Sync account, click Connect
5- Click I don't have the device with me
6- Enter your account email address and password
7- Click on "I've lost my other device"
8- A new Sync Key will be made for you. Please take a moment to print it out or save it on your computer. Then click Change Sync Key

How do I convert the old sync key (12 characters, no dashes) to the new sync key (31 characters, 5 dashes)?

My sync key used to be 12 characters, no dashes (xxxxxxxxxxxx). After uninstalling and reinstalling FF 3.6.13, Sync 1.6.1 refuses my 12 character sync key.
I discovered, that sync keys for all users have been switched to 31 characters including 5 dashes (x-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx). How do I get the new sync key?
I have no PCs connected to Firefox Sync anymore but Firefox Home and 360 Browser on my iPhone sync successfully. Unfortunately on the iPhone I cannot display the currently used sync key. Is there a way to convert the old sync key to the new one?

I had the exact same symptoms you did. Here's my solution:
I installed an older version of firefox sync (1.4.something, I think) and then added my account using my old short firefox sync key. When trying to sync, the outdated addon said that in order to perform the sync, it needed to be updated. After updating, I was still signed in, but now had the added feature of seeing my new long firefox sync key which was compatible with FF 4b, etc. Everything is working smoothly now and my computer is syncing correctly.

I synced my firefox bookmarks so that I could reupload them if ever my computer got wiped, so I don't have a second device with the sync key on it. Sorry, without your Sync Key your data is worthless, it can't be de-crypted, and creating a new Sync Key will wipe it from the Sync server.
BTW, the Firefox Sync service isn't meant for "backups", it is meant to synchronize your Firefox data between different "devices". Any chance you had more than one device setup with that Sync account? If so, you can use the Sync Key from that device.

How can I remove one device without having to create a new sync key?

I had to hand in a laptop at work but forgot to de-register the device. Is there anyway I can remove this one device from my sync account without having to create a new sync key and add all of my machines back?

That changes the password but it keeps the same sync'd machines active. That laptop probably has not been turned on in weeks but it still shows up on Firefox Home even though I changed the password on the machines that I still have (the old laptop still has the old password but it still shows up as do the machines that I have not changed the password on yet.) I'm not trying to prevent that machine that I no longer have to sync with my data - I erased it - I just want it to be removed from Firefox Home on my iPhone.

Require to maintain customertype(Existing/New) information in BPC master data. Pls suggest me way.
Customer type dim: with IDs Existing/New. First time when customer joined into business he became new customer throught that financial year and, after in subsequent year(s) he became exising customer.
Customer dim: list of customers.
In reporting requirement, i would like to see revenue from existing vs new customers for each yearwise. In previous year, whoever is new customer became existing customer in present year.

I agree with Sabine Bennett solution. That way you will have status maintained for each customer for every year & Revenue for years would be same ,when queried in any year . Only one draw back is ,as years passes by dimension file size increases.
Another alternative could be ,to create an account 'CUSTSTATUS', and maintain 1-NEW and 0-Existing for all customers ,NO_ENTITY,ACTUAL, First month of every year . To generate reports on NEW/Existing customers , you can have a hidden sheet where in EXISTING/NEW customers list can be pulled with EVLST or EVDRE . Point to this list from Main EVDRE report . In this approach , expansion should be done two times when year changes . Its just an alternative solution . Some clients might not accept to expand a report 2 times.

One reason could be that the email address is already registered. You can check that by typing a few extra characters. If the email is already registered you can '''Connect''' to that, otherwise you may have to register with another account.

Cannot type in new events

Yesterday suddenly I was not able to type in or change an event. I can double click the calendar and type in my event, but it immediately pops back to "new event". I do not synchronize to another computer.
It's as if the calendar is read only--I haven't changed anything about the calendar to my knowledge.
Does anyone have ideas? I'm lost without it!

Hmm, if you subscribe to other calendars, make sure you have one of your own calendars selected. Whichever calendar you have selected, that is the one it will make the new event in.

Cannot connect to new DB by tnsname entry.

I created 2 oracle home, /stage/product/10g and /oracle/product/10g. Both are using /oracle as $ORACLE_BASE. I am not sure if this is ok, if the $ORACLE_BASE is not part the access path of $ORACLE_HOME.
Then, I created a database (SID=stage) with $ORACLE_HOME as /stage/product/10g and listener tnsnames.ora. With my oracle logon setting, I can connect to oracle as sqlplus username/password, but I cannot connect as sqlplus username/password@stage. Got the error: ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor. I got error: ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error while I am trying to connect from remote server. Where is my problem?

Sorry, if you didn't save the SyncKey before re-installing your OS, you're out of luck. Nobody has that Key except for you.

My original computer is no longer available, how do I reset my sync key?

I am no longer able to access the original computer so I can't determine what my sync key is. I need a new sync key with my existing mozilla account.

It needs to be connected to a network to have a chance of locating it - which could be wifi or 3G (if it's a 3G model). And that also applies to if it is rebooted, it would still need to be connected to a network after it reboots. If the iPad is reset (i.e. wiped) then you won't be able to locate it as your info will have been removed from it. If it is lost in another state then you may still be able to locate it (with the above network proviso), but as to whether you could then get it back would depend upon the police in the other state.

SYNC Key

To whom it may concern,
I’m currently trying to log in to the Firefox Sync and according to your systems, this SYNC Key is not a good key.
The left side of your screen is the saved copy of the Key when I have re-created one.
Please verify the server is not having any problems.
This is not the first time I had to re-set my key, but why do I have to keep doing this and lose all data?

1). Execute transaction MEREP_PD,Go to Mobile ID Tab and enter your mobile ID# 71 and then click "Refresh Replica Data base", this will delete data for your Device ID.
2). Execute FM "MEREP_RDB_S01_RESET" from SE37 with your SyncBO Id to reset your replica database.
3). Execute Transaction MEREP_EX_REPLIC with your SYNCBO Id, you should get new data in the Replica Database.This is same as choosing the Synchronizer Tab in MEREP_PD and then replicating the DB for your SyncBo after you enabled it the first time.
After doing this,do a sync from your MI Client again, this should get a new sync key and try posting it now.
Regarding, Updation the BAPI Wrapper will update only the Tables/Structure in the backend system, the system that has been defined under RFC Destination in the SyncBo eventhough those tables exist in the MI Server.Because when there is a RFC Destination(which is not local) assigned in the SyncBo, it will never call the BAPI Wrapper in the MI Server and it don't even have to exist in the MI Server.The BAPI Wrapper has to exist only in the Backend System.If you still want to update something in the MI server then you have to do special coding in the BAPI Wrapper in your Backend System to update the tables in your MI Server.

Updated to Yosemite, safari freezes and cannot type into word

I updated to Yosemite and my Safari has been freezing, and MS word will not work, I cannot type into new documents. I can open them, I can type here (so the keyboard works), but I cannot type in word

When I try to sync my desktop with my laptop, which has all my bookmarks in Firefox I get the same boxes for setup. No where is there a place to in put my sync key that I have saved when trying to sync on my laptop I think.

I put all the details in my question. On neither my desktop nor my laptop does a place pop up for my to enter the sync key that I have saved when I was trying to learn about Firefox and clicked on the sync. At the time I just thought it was for my cell phone which does not have access to the internet. Now that I have saved all my bookmarks from yahoo to Firefox on my laptop. I also want them on my desktop and did not want to go thru what I did on my laptop saving them one at a time. I had to do it this way because I could not get them to import or export or whatever. Besides the last time I checked yahoo had their bookmarks locked up because they are working on them. I could not add nor delete anything in yahoo bookmarks. They are in some transition that will not be complete until the 20th of October and this has been going on since around the beginning of September. So I really would like an easy fix to my problem.

I know you can't help with my Yahoo problem, however, apparently at some time in the past I have went to the Sync and tried to figure it out on both my laptop and my desktop, because I have the long snyc key information. However, when I go to try to sync both computers I never get the box to enter that key on either one. That is my problem. So should I try and get a new sync key and see if that works.

Where is the sync key saved, is there a specific file in which it might be saved? prefs.js or user.js?

Hey all, I really hope I can get an answer to this issue because it's been 3 days a-crackin' with absolutely nothing certain.
I had decided to fresh install FF because it had been giving me some trouble and what I thought should be a breeze ended up being a total disaster. I was using FF Sync and selected to sync my BM's, addons and prefs. Now to my surprise, upon re-installation, I found out I needed the sync key. I had never needed that so I never thought of saving it, also never knew this was a one way ticket to information loss... The worst part is that I didn't back up my profile thinking "Hey, everything is sync so what for" So for the past 3 days, I've been trying to recover lost/deleted files from my previous profile, hoping that I maybe get my hands on the sync key somehow someway in a certain file in plain text.
If it is saved in plain text, in which file would that be. I'm using a friend's pc now because I dare not plug my HD now since there's a high risk of losing any possible recovery chances I have for the lost profile files (I'm using an external usb thingie and I'm using an undelete software to recover lost files
On another note, is it really necessary to clear all sync data when requesting a new sync key? I get the security risks and all but isn't that why there's a username/password combo? I mean, no one would be able to reset my sync key/account unless they have my username/pass so technically I should be able to reset my key without having to lose the info in the account... and save a lot of people of lot of anguish... my 2 cents

'''When''' you request a new Sync Key (Recovery Key) your data is wiped from the Sync server, so don't do that.
Three things you need to connect to the Sync server - user name, password, and your Sync Key (Recovery Key).
BTW, Sync really isn't intended as a backup medium as you are attempting to do. It's purpose is to synchronize your Firefox data across multiple different devices that you may own.
