    Hello all,
we have two databases, one with AR8ISO8859P6 character set, and the other is AL32UTF8. When we try to access the value of the former database from the AL32UTF8, some of the arabic characters are shown as reversed question marks. If anybody knows a fix, or, workaround , please let me know

  • Cannot type lower case characters in PSCS4.

    Hello,
I am suddenly unable to type any lower case characters with the Photoshop type engine.
Everything comes out in all caps whether or not I've used the shift key or Caps Lock.
I have no idea how this happened or how to correct it.
    Please help.
    Thanks for your consideration,

    George,
I'd wager that it is something that we are both loading, prior to running into the problem. My theory is that those previous images had the All Caps checked, and though we might not have done any Text work, that setting is being carried over.
My thought on the DVD Menus was based on the amount of work that I do with them. Some are from the Encore Library, and might have the All Caps checked. I need to pay close attention to when it comes up, and then look at my Recent Images list. That should tell me. Though you are not doing Menus, I'll bet that it is similar - that, or just the phases of the Moon...
I had never noticed this aberration, until about a year ago, and now have seen it a dozen times on my two machines. I will pay attention next time, rather than just fix and continue.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • We cannot type Polish (non-latin) characters in WebDynpro applications

We cannot type Polish (non-latin) characters in WebDynpro application (in runtime) because 'Browser Help Shortcuts' are fired.
To type a polish character in polish keyboard you need to press AltGr + letter (ie. AltGr + a/c/e/s/o/l/z/x/n). To type an uppercase polish character you need to press AltGr + Shift + letter. This comination is in fact the same as pressing Alt + Ctrl + Shift + letter (because AltGr produces Alt + Ctrl) and it fires some of 'Browser Help Shortcuts'. For example AltGr + Shift + O should produce a letter O with a dash on it's top but instead it fires 'Show nesting of HTML containers'.
We tried to turn off sap-wd-lightspeed, but then other key combinations are reserved for u2018Browser Help Shortcutsu2019.
We need to be able to use AltGr + Shift + a/c/e/s/o/l/z/x/n in runtime.

I hope there is a somewhere a hidden parameter that solves our problem Maybe we're in some kind of debug mode?

The funny thing is that bold font [when message unread in message list] shows OK, ie in greek, but when i click on unread message, it is assumed to have been read, so it changes over to medium [non bold] and the encoding changes as well into the one that is not greek and thus unreadable.  In ~/.sylpheed/sylpheedrc the fonts are:
    widget_font=
    message_font=-microsoft-sylfaenarm-medium-r-normal-*-*-160-*-*-p-*-iso8859-7
    normal_font=-monotype-arial-medium-r-normal-*-12-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-7
    bold_font=-monotype-arial-bold-r-normal-*-12-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-7
    small_font=-monotype-arial-medium-r-normal-*-12-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-7
In /etc/gtk, for gtk1.2 apps the file refering to greek encoding [el] seems to be fine [exactly the same as in slackware 9.1].

  • Appears in Arabic characters when you are tying to type in English?

what to do when you type as usual in a Word doc or in Facebook and it appears in Arabic characters when you are tying to type in English?

Check in 'Languages' in International (system preference panels) to see if the default language of choice has somehow changed to another one.
Usually you can change this while in an Admin account, since its effect may be system-wide.
    Hopefully this helps.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • I am not proficient using pages. I opened and saved a document but for some reason there is no cursor so I cannot type in the document. How can i revert to a blank page?

I opened a document in pages but cannot type anything in the document

I assume that you you tried tapping and holding down on the document and the keyboard would not pop up and the insertion point did not appear.
If you want to start with a clean slate, tap the Documents button in the upper left corner. When in thumbnail view you can tap the edit button in the upper right - find that blank document that you just closed - tap on it and then tap the trash can in the upper left to delete it.
To start with a new document - tap the + button in the upper left corner and tap Create New Document.

There are two "serial" numbers (the product number) that came on the product packaging.
The software is Adobe Flash Professional CS5.5 Student and Teacher Edition, purchased from Amazon.com and needed student verification to obtain the license.
^ [ I figured out what was wrong, but I'll just leave the information here for anyone in the future that may have short-term memory as well ]
I have just went through my records that I recovered from my laptop and it seems that the serial number on the product package DOES IN FACT have letters in it.  But I think that I had to register it with Adobe and verify that I was a student before Adobe would give me my legitimate serial number that contained only numbers.  So this is why there are tons of these threads about this that never go answered because the people asking and the people helping are both right and wrong at the same time.  The students are trying to use the only serial that was provided to them, but it isnt the true serial.  Maybe Adobe could be more clear that it isn't a serial number for the product underneath it?   "Product Code" is synonymous with "Serial Number" to most people.
You use this code (the code with letters in it; the "product code") to contact Adobe and verify your status as a studen/teacher and then they give you the true serial number that is all numbers.  Search your email for mail from Adobe to find your serial if you have already done this.  I had completely forgotten how the process worked since it was a while ago.
Thanks for the help Mylenium, I hope this helps whoever comes across it in the future.

  • Problem with Arabic characters

    Hi:
I don't know if this is the correct place to post the question, but here it goes...
I have an SQL 2005 database, connected via a Linked Server to an Oracle Database.
I have a table in SQL that contains arabic characters, and I need to insert it into an Oracle table.
These characters appear as "????" after being inserted in the oracle table.
I guess I hace some collation/characterset problem, but cannot finf the solution.
The column where the arabic characyers are saved in SQL is defined as:
         [Remarks] [nvarchar](1000) NULL,
And default SQL server collation is: SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS
When I do a select on this table, it can see arabic correctly.
    ORACLE NLS CONFIGURATION IS:
    PARAMETER VALUE
    NLS_LANGUAGE AMERICAN
    NLS_TERRITORY AMERICA
    NLS_CURRENCY $
    NLS_ISO_CURRENCY AMERICA
    NLS_NUMERIC_CHARACTERS .,
    NLS_CHARACTERSET AR8MSWIN1256
    NLS_CALENDAR GREGORIAN
    NLS_DATE_FORMAT DD-MON-RR
    NLS_DATE_LANGUAGE AMERICAN
    NLS_SORT BINARY
    NLS_TIME_FORMAT HH.MI.SSXFF AM
    NLS_TIMESTAMP_FORMAT DD-MON-RR HH.MI.SSXFF AM
    NLS_TIME_TZ_FORMAT HH.MI.SSXFF AM TZR
    NLS_TIMESTAMP_TZ_FORMAT DD-MON-RR HH.MI.SSXFF AM TZR
    NLS_DUAL_CURRENCY $
    NLS_COMP BINARY
    NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS BYTE
    NLS_NCHAR_CONV_EXCP FALSE
    NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET AL16UTF16
    NLS_RDBMS_VERSION 11.1.0.6.0
The sql sentence in SQL server that moves the data to oracle is:
    INSERT INTO openquery(Oracle_DB, 'select Ticket_NO,Remarks from webportal.webcc_escal_det')
         (Ticket_NO,Remarks )
         SELECT Ticket_NO, Remarks
         FROM Details(nolock)
    Thanks in advance!!
    Mariana

I think first you should check your character set
    SELECT * FROM NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS where parameter = 'NLS_CHARACTERSET'
For oracle to display correctly, you need to change your character set that caters to Arabic

  • Arabic Characters Issue

    Hi
    Following is our environment
    DB Version: Oracle 11g R2 (11.2.0.3.0) 64bit
    OS : OEL 5U2
    Characterset: AMERICAN_AMERICA.AR8MSWIN1256
We have an opensource application built on php. CHARSET was defined as AR8MSWIN1256 in the configuration file. Data was inserted using browser based interface. Use access the system using IE 8 since it is web based application. Data comprise of both Arabic and English. It is displayed perfectly fine using browser ie Arabic shows proper Arabic characters and English shows correct English.
Problem started when a requirement came to generate some reports using Oracle Reports 10g. Arabic data show as garbage in the reports. Vendor was asked to provide some solution. They suggested to change the CHARSET to AL32UTF8 in the config file of the application. After making the changes, the new data that is inserted in the database can be seen correctly for both languages regardless of the tool (be it SQLDeveloper or Oracle Reports). The old data, however, shows garbage. Surprisingly when data is extracted using scripts in flat files and then imported in the test database after setting environment variable NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8 using @/../filename.sql, it converts it properly. Since data is huge and this is taking way too much time, I was hoping if someone could help me in quickly perform this migration? Already tried CSSCAN/CSALTER and DMU but did not succeed. DMU stopped at 5th stage when it was supposed to issue ALTER DATABASE CHARACTER SET command.
Currently I am installing database with AL32UTF8 characterset and planning to import the schema in it. Is my approach correct? Any help will be highly appreciated.
    Thank you

    Hi Sergiusz
Firstly I would like to thank you for replying.
Secondly I was able to move further with the DMU (the issue was due to more sessions that I had to kill to allow DMU to proceed with ALTER DATABASE CHARACTER SET command).
Here is what I have done so far without any luck.
    1) Created a test instance with source database characterset ie AR8MSWIN1256 and performed a full import using DataPump (impdp).
    2) Used DMU to perform conversion/migration to AL32UTF8. (this step took almost 5 hours).
    3) Used SQLDeveloper to verify the results and data still show as garbage.
Thing that worked for me but is way to slow and not reliable.
    1) Save data in file (.sql) using Windows XP client or windows 2003 server. Basically I am generating the whole SQL statements for UPDATE eg UPDATE table SET xx)
    2) SET NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8 on command prompt of Windows XP client and use SQLPLUS to open sql prompt.
    3) Use @path\file.sql (that was generated in earlier step) to update records.
    4) Verify via SQLDeveloper that arabic shows correctly.
Issue with above approach is since we have millions of records stored in multiple tables, sometimes while generating the file with SQL Statements, the server CPU touch 100% and then freeze. Also file size grow exponentially and to verify how much of the work was done prior to freezing becomes very difficult.
I still have the DB after using the DMU tool intact so if you could think of some other workaround that will be great.
Again, thank you for helping me with this.

  • Java, Oracle, and Arabic Characters

    Hi,
I need to run some Forms fmb files that contain Arabic characters through Oracle's forms to xml converter (frmf2xml.bat). The XML that is generated by the utility contains strings such as "رقم الموظ" instead of the Arabic characters I was expecting.
The XML output by frmf2xml.bat is encoded as UTF-8.
My NLS_LANG is set to AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8. The characters display fine in Forms Builder.
Is there another localization setting I need to make with the conversion utility or even with Java itself?
    Any insight or comments appreciated.
    Dave

On a related note, I am seeing a couple of different types of 'incorrect' characters based on different NLS_LANG settings.
If it is set to AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8, I get characters like this:
    رقم الموظ
If it is set to ARABIC_UNITED ARAB EMIRATES.AR8MSWIN1256, I get characters like this:
    ÑÞã ÇáãæÙÝ
Do any of you know what these characters are?
    Thanks for any insight.

    Hi All ,
I am using RDF as my data definition from which i generate some special characters.
When this RDF is deployed in APPS it doen't generate any character:

The data Í,BXLÎ got converted to ,BX , which is incorrect.
Kindly someone help. We are using XMLP 5.6.3 versin.
    Thanks & Regards,

    I still doubt it..
What ever character you have it in database, is going to be fetched in xml..
be in Report builder, or sql, pl/sql.
the way the data is being converted is the first we need to see.. if the character is getting messed here..
once you got it as xml, and open xml in browser, then the parser finds the encoding in the top of xml, and renders the character . if it cannot understand the encoding character, then it will skip or do some abnormal things..
oracle apps , is generating xml ?? what is that means ??
    data-template ? pl/sql or sql ??
