Cannot uncheck mail IMAP settings (not gmail)

Am running Mavericks 10.9.1, and accessing a mailbox hosted at my ISP with IMAP. No GMAIL.
Configuration has been working fine, until last day or so when noticed that Mail.app has created some new folders and has checked all of the "store messages on server" options - seemingly by itself. Agh! They can be unchecked but automatically recheck themselves again.
I do not want to store sent messages, draft messages, trash on server!
How can I uncheck these settings and get them to stay unchecked ... please.

Thank you. I found and ran that utility—both the verify and the repair options. Several repairs were made during the process. Unfortunately, this action did not affect the core problem. I rebooted after running the repair, and the problem was still present when I tried to uncheck the options in mail.app.
I have not knowingly upgraded any software, in the last four days since this behaviour started. Could it be a virus or something? The sending of data to the hosted system is cluttering my mailbox there and consuming my bandwitdh, neither of which I am happy about.
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

3GS 3.0.1 - Cannot send mail, You did not specify any recipient

Whenever I send a message from iPhone with MobileMe account and then resync the account with server (Push is off), the very same message, already sent with success, appears in Outgoing folder and error pops up saying:
*Cannot send mail, You did not specify any recipient*

It cannot be deleted, either - error message pops up saying: *Unable to move message*

Important: it was sent and received successfully. It is just either iPhone, MobileMe or both that have problems to sync correctly.
On my Mac that I sync with this MobileMe account all is fine.
What can be wrong? There was an old topic here, from 2008, where several users of 3G had exactly the same issue, but no root cause or solution was provided.

Try deleting and manually recreating the account on your iPhone.
If you transferred the account settings from your Mac via the iTunes sync process - selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, deselect this for your iPhone sync preferences followed by selecting Apply before doing so.

Cannot Send Mail - You did not specify any recipients

Hi all,
I have an email stuck in my outbox which has the "This message has not been downloaded from the server" issue I have seen on this forum. Everytime I go to my email folders list, I get the 'Cannot Send Mail - You did not specify any recipients' error message. I am unable to trash it, move it as I get the 'Unable to Move Message' error.
Any ideas how I can remove this message and clear my outbox!?

Me too! This is very annoying. I LOVE Apple but this new 3G keeps on throwing curveballs at me. I, too, deleted my e-mail account from my iPhone to get rid of this "unsent message" but with Apple you shouldn't have to do that! Certain that it will happen again, I'm interested if anyone comes up with any fixes so that next time we don't have to delete/add e-mail account.

Mail - IMAP folders not showing up in folder list

I have several mac mail imap folders and a few of them are not showing all imap folder - yet I can use move to folder to move emails to that folder. Any ideas?

Check on the IMAP settings (Gmail.com) that Pop is disabled.
It should be in the IMAP/Mail forwarding section.

Mail port settings not sticking

I'm having trouble with port settings not sticking in mac mail. When I start Mac Mail (v5.1, running in Lion) the program won't read mail in my iCloud account because the port settings are incorrect (port 143). I click on the "Use SSL" box, which changes the port setting to 993. I save the changes and everything works fine until I quit and restart the program. The port settings revert to 143 and the SSL box is unchecked. The issue, obviously, is that the changed settings are not being saved. I deleted the iCloud IMAP account and reinstalled. It reinstalled with the correct 993 SSL setting, but as soon as I quit the program and restarted, it reverted to 143, no SSL. Anyone have an idea what is going on?

To solve the problem of mail port seetings not sticking required deleting the Accounts.plist in this mail directory:
~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Accounts.plist

I keep getting a sporadic error message on my ipad: "cannot send mail. The recipient was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying". Sometimes it doesn't happen and the mail sends fine. Sometimes I get the error message but the message then sends later. Sometimes it never sends.
Can anyone help?

Hi, I've suddenly encountered this problem. I have a 1st gen iPad. I've reset, deleted, re-added, turned on both outgoing servers, added my password--this last doesn't stay in the primary outgoing server field; when I go back in, the password field is filled with the (optional) text again and when I 'click' into the authentication box, the password is no longer checked. However, these are all filled in the secondary outgoing server, so it shouldn't matter. Restarted the iPad a couple times. Using system 5.1.1--I think that's as far as I can go. Any miracles out there?

Wondering if your mailbox isue is resolved.
Ideally if you change the enironment like Internet settings by swapping sim, or deleting the internet settings (when push to email was set up), well the connection between existing push to email set up and server is lost.
Solution
go to Settings -> Sett Wizard -> First define the internet settings by clicking on Operator
and then re set up your email in Email Set up.

IMAP settings not saved

Hello all
I have this weird problem with one of my IMAP accounts.
The settings should be set to use SSL on port 995, password authentification, allowing "unsecure" authentification (sorry I have a french system, so I'm not sure of the english translation for this).
Anyway, on a very regular basis, these settings are set back to default. (SSL unchecked, back to default ports etc.) So of course, I get error messages and mail can't connect to the server.
I go back into the preferences, check back SSL and the proper settings, save and close, and all works well again.
Until the next time when I get error messages, and I go back into the preferences and see the defaults are back again.
Anything I can do about this ?

Connecting insecurely to a mail server is unwise, but that's not your question. Select the Advanced tab in the settings for the account and uncheck the box marked

Keep getting message saying my settings are wrong - server timed out - but they are not wrong - any ideas anyone please?

With the automatic mail wizard on the N97-1 the usual mailbox it creates is in fact an IMAP, you have not said if you have tried using the wizard as yet, so perhaps try it first. Once created you will be able to go and view the settings and will be able to see it if created an IMAP mailbox or not.
If it does not create an IMAP mailbox then the easiest way of doing it would be as follows:
Go to create a new mailbox, when prompted to enter an e-mail address enter in a random address like [email protected] for instance, the wizard is only able to create mailboxes automatically for well known mailboxes like Yahoo, Google etc, if the domain name is different as is the case here "paper" it will ask you to enter the settings maunally. You can then configure the mailbox to be IMAP and enter your IMAP server name etc.
Once you have done this you will just need to go into the mailbox settings and change the "e-mail address and reply to e-mail address" from [email protected] to your actual e-mail address and all should be fine from there.

Mail suddenly stopped working and also cannot access mail through Settings iphone 4

The mail partially opens for a second and then crashes. I see some suggestions for deleting the mail program but when I go to Settings the Mail, Calendar and Contact button won't open.

I still have not been able to open mail preferences on my iphone 4s so I can't even delete or add accounts. I reset everything (after trying various soft resets), started all over again as a new phone and updated the IOS but still can't open mail settings or the mail app. Prior to the "fix" for the Excess exchange account activity related to calendar, I reported the problem and have have gotten zero responses. Although I was using gmail exchange accounts for google apps for education, I did NOT have a problem with calendar, just mail. My calendars still sync just fine, but have resorted to using gmail app and yahoo mail app to get my various mail accounts on my phone. I know this doesn't help you but maybe someone will see a pattern here.

I recently changed my password on my yahoo email account. My iPad now cannot login to my yahoo mailnsince the password is different. When I go to Settings, Mail, Account, I can see my yahoo account but iPad will not allow me to click on it. Any ideas?

Maybe a process is hung up on the bad credentials. If you haven't done so, I would stop all apps with the double-tap-on-the-home-button, hit-the-red-X method then reset the device with the home and power button. I bet after you do that you will be able to get into the account to either edit it or delete it.

Mail IMAP Inbox Not Syncing Correctly

i have my IMAP mail on my MBP, Mini and iPhone. all devices are fully up to date. my mail on all 3 devices has been sync'd perfectly until this week. Now i notice that my inboxes arent quite perfectly sync'd, my OS machines are constantly up and downloading mail after new mail has been delivered, and on my iphone i have 3 or sometimes 4 of some messages, but i dont have these duplicates on my OS machines?!!
any ideas why this could be?
even now, i'm looking at all 3 devices, i can see one e-mail on MBP and iphone but its not in the Mini?!?!?!
this has all worked even after upgrading all to Mavericks and going through and solving the initial mail problem of Smart Box Counting.
is there another issue at play here?
i read that other boxes need to sometimes be remapped but not the inbox so am guessing its not the mapping to imap that's at fault here?!??!
there was an additional update i did for Mail on my MBP to solve the Smart Mailbox issue, but I didn't apply that to the Mini. I assume the Apple Update has that covered now so if both are up to date then both have had this patch applied so I don't need to apply it to the Mini separately?

Mail account settings not syncing

Hi all,
Wondering if someone out there can help me with this.
I have various e-mail accounts. Back when I was on MobileMe, the settings for those accounts (SMTP etc) would sync flawlessly to all my iDevices.
Since migrating to iCloud, I have had to update SMTP settings due to ISP issues, and none of the revised settings propogated to my iPhone or iPad.
Though I went in and manually adjusted settings, the phone is still sending mail through the wrong ISPs SMTP despite the fact that I manually altered it. This is annoying as work e-mails are reponded to from a different address.
Basically what I want to know is - is there a way to get my Phone to inheret the setting on my computer automatically (just like I had on MobileMe). There was never any need to tinker with settings on each device before. If I could get my phone to 'start over' on it's mail settings and inheret them, the issues would dissapear.
This has been a bit annoying/distracting tryng to solve this. I kind of thought iCloud would be a huge improvement over MobileMe, but although I like aspects of it, it has actually been worse in terms of creating little headaches. It's not been seamless at all.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
