Cannot uninstall cs6 bad hard drive, any suggestions?
THank you

Thank you for the Adobe contact. They connected me to the chat link and the Adobe tech Support rep sent me a License Recovery download link (attached) http://download.macromedia.com/pub/support/tools/LicenseRecovery111.dmg.
I have 10.10.1 Yosemite. When I open the download folder and click on the LicenseRecovery.app it shows up on the dock but it nothing happens. I cannot quit the app only Force Quit. I have restarted the mac and that did't help.
Adobe chat suggested I uninstall CS5.5/6 and re-install but why would that have anything to do with the app opening?
Any suggestion is greatly appreciated, again.
Thank you

A WD Caviar Bue would do also, but only has a 3 year warranty, the Black has a 5 year warranty.

I know, that when it comes for asking the same questionnaire in all my forums all over again..its get a little bothersome, right???
Yes it does. Once is enough.
Your Tibook only has USB 1.1 ports, not USB 2 ports. You would be insane to buy a USB drive to use with it, unless you also buy a USB 2 adapter card for your CardBus slot. But we've already been all through that with you, in one of the dozen or more threads you've started while spinning your wheels and repeating yourself for the last three weeks.
If you can only find one drive for $69.99, and $69.99 is the most you're willing to spend, then your choice is already made, and you don't need any other recommendations.
There aren't a lot of people reading or responding to questions in the Tibook Discussions any more. If you look through the forums, you'll see that it's fairly unusual for more than three or four different people to post in any given thread lately. The likelihood that you will get a wide variety of responses to any question posted here is pretty small. That's too bad, perhaps, but that's the way it is.

  • In search of a new hard drive, any suggestions?

    Hello All,
It seems I didn't end up with good success from my new Seagate Momentus 7200.4 500GB Model ST9500420AS. As it began clicking this evening. So I reinstalled my original 320GB Hitachi drive and did a clean install of the osx as well.
I would like some suggestions as to another brand I might wanna try.
I'm looking for the best 5400RPM and the best 7200RPM for a 500GB to choose from.
I would like to stay with a 7200RPM drive only because since installing the 5400RPM stock drive, I have been able notice the difference in speed between the two rpm's. Also since installing the stock drive, I've also gotten one beach ball spinning effect I didn't get while using the 7200RPM drive. Unless someone can suggest a really good 5400RPM drive.
I have a brand new i5 15.4" Macbook pro that the new hard drive will be going into...
Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

You're not alone regarding the Seagate Momentus failures. I bought the same model 5 months ago and began noticing random freezes and Finder restarts. After reformatting the drive and doing a full zero-erase (stress testing), Disk Utility reported that the SMART status was showing early failure. There are numerous posts regarding failures of this particular drive.
I've seen quite a few recommendations for the HITACHI Travelstar 7K500 HD20500 which is equivalent to the Seagate drive in all performance specs. I found one post on NewEgg's site about an early failure within 4 months but otherwise the feedback has been excellent. Until May 13, you can get this drive from NewEgg for $78 with the special promo code and no tax or shipping charge. I went for it.
The Hitachi drive uses less power so battery life is extended a bit and heat generation is lower. Heat and shock are the primary causes of laptop drive failures.

  • I need to upgrade my external hard drive, any suggestions

I have an iMac i5 quad core (2010 model), I have been using a Seagate Barracuda 250 GB 7200 RPM from an older iMac 20" G5 in an OWC Mercury Elite Pro Firewire 400/USB 2.0/1.1 enclosure as my backup external HD.  The enclosure has the Oxford 911 chipset and says that it supports up to 750GB.
Since I have been using Snow Leopard only I have used time machine to backup to this HD.  Now, that I have installed Lion, and partitioned my HD on my computer to have both Lion and Snow Leopard OS, I need to get a larger external HD to install in my OWC enclosure to save money.
I was looking on the OWC website and found a SeaGate 2.0TB Barracuda Green SATA 6Gb/s 64MB, 5900 RPM for $90.00, or the 7200 RPM for $158.00.
I am not sure if my enclosure with the Oxford 911 chipset will support this drive, and also the specs for my enclosure says up to 750GB, and that probably rules out these drives anyway.
I could just keep what I have and use it as a back up of my Lion partition currently using 134 GB.  Snow Leopard using 127 GB on my internal 1TB hard drive.  Then, I could purchase the OWC Mercury Elite Pro 2.0 TB Firewire 400/USB 2.0/1.1 with the Oxford 934 chipset, 5900 RPM, and 64 MB for $150.00. Even thought this would be a little slower, is it worth paying $40.00 more for the 7200 RPM speed?
On my hard drive now I am only using 261 GB, so after I first back up both partitions on the 2.0 TB external HD, any other backups would not take as long to do.  I have Super Duper, but right now it is not recognizing my Lion HD, and I have not backed up Lion to my current external HD yet since I want to get a larger external HD.  When I get the new HD, I can partition it so that I can backup either Lion partition or SL partition using time machine, it that right?  My current external HD is bootable, but I am confused about Carbon Copy or Super Duper, will that be saved on my external HD?
    Thanks,
    DaisyMay

I would recommend not settling for less then USB 3 or hold out for Thunderbolt, if your machine is capable. Firewire 800 minimum.

  • Need another hard drive  - any suggestions on specs and setup?

I started working with video in Premiere about a year ago - I have filled up 1 TB and I need to buy an external HD.  Does anyone have any suggestions or tips for what kind works good for editing?  Also I think I am supposed to set up so that PRE runs from 1 HD and all of my video is on the other, is that accurate?  I'm using PRE 8 and I have some projects that I want to stay intact when I make the switch.  In other words, if I reinstall PRE so that the video is captured to the new HD, how does this affect other projects where the program and all the data is on 1 HD?  Any help would be appreciated - Eric

For the smoothest and fastest Video-editing, being able to spread the I/O load over several HDD's, is really good.
Externals can present some unique problems, but this ARTICLE goes into a bit more detail. Note: there are some users, who have had zero issues with USB 2.0 externals, but I, and many others, have observed some major issues. Those observations are reflected in the above linked article.
The ultimate is probably a 3x internal I/O setup, with eSATA for the two additional HDD's is next best.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • I cannot connect my external hard drives (1 WD My Passport and 1 LaCie Porsche Design). The drives were connected and worked perfect, the WD is used as a Time Capsule, the LaCie is formatted as exFAT and used for miscellaneous. They are both USB 3.0

I cannot connect my external hard drives any longer. I have one WD "My Passport" used as a Time Capsule and one LaCie Porsche Design used for all different kind of data, formatted in exFAT. They worked fine, connected direct or through an additional USB hub or also attached to a Dell monitor. The Lacie helds my iTunes Library and the iPhoto library.
After I moved the iTunes library to the external drive, from time to time the drive went into a never ending loop and I had to shut down the laptop (MacBook Air).
The last time starting again the drives were not recognized any longer. I tried to connect them to another MacBook, which didn't work.
Starting with Windows 7, the WD is also not recognized at all (perhaps because of time capsule format?) and the LaCie gives an error.
Could anybody tell me if there is a chance to get them alive again? When I connect them now, they start to heat up quite fast without anything else happening.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Just want to clarify, have you checked to make sure the cords are not damaged  (going from hard drive to computer and or any power source )?
You have also check to make sure that usb ports are working correctly?
If you have checked these things it may be that the external drives have failed.
I would google the error message from the LaCie drive before I do anything.
There are several ways that I know of,  one is to put the hard drive in the freezer for a while (make sure you wrap it air tight) if this works it is not a permenint fix. You might be able to transfer information to another source.
The other method is to plug the hard drive into a hard drive connector a product like this:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817707192
to do this you would have to remove the hard drive from its enclosure and still this is not a guarantee it will work.
The finally way I know is using a recovery service. This can be rather expensive, and  there are no guarantees

  • How to recover data from bad hard drive

Once a hard drive goes bad (cannot get into the computer), is there any hope of recovering any data from it?  If so, how?

Do you mean the hard drive is mechanically broken for sure?  It's not a data corruption issue that is causing a problem with starting up the Mac, but maybe not be a bad mechanism?
If the drive is definitely broken, there are businesses that specialize in recovering data from bad hard drives.  For example
http://www.drivesaversdatarecovery.com/  (I always saw their booth at MacWorld Expos...)
The cost of such services is usually high.
    cannot get into the computer
So that probably means the hard drive in question is the internal drive?  If you don't know for sure that the hard drive is physically broken, you can try starting up using your Mac OS X installation disc.  Insert disc in optical drive and start up with the C key held down.  When you get to Installer's screen, go up to the menu bar and run Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.  Does the internal drive appear in the Disk Utility sidebar?
Alternately, if you have another Mac (that has FireWire), you can try starting the Mac with the problem in FireWire Target Disk Mode,
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
Connect the "target" Mac to the other Mac (running normally) using a FireWire cable.  Run Disk Utility on that Mac.  Does the hard drive of the Mac in FireWire Target Disk Mode appear in the sidebar?
If you can get the internal drive to appear in Disk Utility, you may be able to run Repair Disk on the First Aid tab.  There are also third-party utilities, such as TechTool Pro (Micromat), Drive Genius (Prosoft), and Disk Warrior (Alsoft), that may be able to fix (or at least recover data from) the hard drive.

You need to reinstall OS X:
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Cloning a bad hard drive

If this were a PC, I'd have no problem. But I'm not a Mac Tech.
I usually back up my laptop's hard drive to an external hard drive using the Disk Utility. Has worked great, never had to restore from it.
Now, the hard drive is begining to fail. So I tried to make one more backup of it, to save me reinstalling when I get the new HD. But the backup fails because of a file system error (file/dir does not exist), which is due to the bad state of the hardware.
Now if this was a PC, I'd just use a utility to copy the drive, errors and all, which would be fine because then I could fix the problem once the data is on a good hard drive.
But I have no such utility for my Mac. My PC utilities don't recognize the Mac file system, so I can't trust them.
*So, how does one copy a slightly buggy hard drive using a Mac? Any tricks in Disk Utility? Tried it from the CD, same result. And other utilities?*
I could just reinstall, but I just got this thing built just right a month ago!

One Mac cloning utility that I like is Super Duper:
    http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html
You can download it and do a clone of your hard drive for free. If you decide to register it, you can unlock other features.
Another utility is called Carbon Copy Cloner. I have never used it, so I don't know much about it. I believe you can download and run it for free, and then make a donation if you like it.
    http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html
I have never attempted to clone a bad hard drive, so I don't know how this would work.
    Good luck!

  • Cisco IDSM-1 bad hard drive

    Hello,
A bit of an odd question but does anyone have any kind of recovery software for the Cisco IDSM1? I have a Cisco 6509 with and old(!) Cisco WS-X6381-IDS that seems to work fine, but has a bad hard drive and therefore wont boot. I get the "boot loader" prompt where I can select maintenance partition or application partition but both result in an I/O bad disk error. I know the WS-X6381-IDS is ancient, but I find the card oddly fascinating. I can browse the "application" software on the download center but I don't see any kind of recovery software. I can obviously replace the hard drive, but how can I re-install the maintenance/application partition and software on the new drive? I'm not even sure if this part of the card was ever user replaceable/maintainable.
    Thanks in advance!
    --Will
    *EDIT*
I was able to figure it out. The files hosted on Ciscos download section, are cab files of the root of  the Windows NT 4 install that makes up the IDSMs primary operating system. If you take the hard drive (or another dirve) out of the IDSM and put it in a computer, install Windows NT (create two partitions), boot linux, delete the contents of the partition, and copy the files from Ciscos site to the partitions. The drive should boot right up.

  • Bad Hard Drive or Bad File System?

    Good morning.
A few months ago my late 2008 iMac went to the Genius Bar for what I was convinced was a bad hard drive. I was having long "beachball" pauses, until I couldn't do much without waiting several seconds, at least, for the program to respond, even if I wasn't running much of anything. I started seeing I/O errors in the kernel log pointing to the system disk. Finally, the system stopped booting, getting stuck forever at the grey apple screen. The disk utility was unable to repair the file system and the complete hardware test confirmed a problem with the hard drive.
So I was pretty surprised when I lugged the thing to the Genius Bar and they decided the file system was just totally messed up. They reinstalled Snow Leopard (something I could have done at home, had the tech on the phone not agreed with me that it was a physical issue), and I went home. It worked great for a time. I couldn't understand how a system could develop a problem so severe, but it worked and I was happy.
But now it looks like I'm running into the same issue. WoW chokes. Firefox freezes. iTunes 10 makes me want punch a wall. I'm not necessarily running all three at the same time, and other program are starting to act the same way. And as of last night, those I/O errors are appearing in my log again (oh yeah, the console freezes too).
If it's not a physical disk issue, I just don't understand how this could happen twice. IIRC, the Genius explained that the file system is self-healing, but eventually the problems stack up until it just craps itself. Is HFS such a delicate flower? I was gently admonished for doing things like running WoW and having a Bootcamp partition (the latter of which I don't have now). This seems like a silly thing to worry about. Both are perfectly normal uses of any reasonably powerful system.
Could it really be messed up a second time? Should I just insist that the hard drive be replaced? If you do think it's nothing more than a logical issue, can you help me understand how this happens and how to prevent it? I'm trying to understand Macs as well as I understand Windows-based PCs.
    Thanks!

Thanks for the reassurance on HFS, Macbig. I wanted to trust the expertise of the Genius, but it was a pretty confusing situation. I saw every sign that on a non-Mac would scream failing hard drive, including an actual failed hardware test, and to have someone confidently tell me that the hard drive was fine and that the test could determine the drive was failed based on a screwy file system left me doubtful that I could ever quite understand these Macs.
I know I won't be able to take my iMac in for service this week, but maybe I can get a ticket in for parts in the meantime.
WZZZ, I will definitely run the extended test again. S.M.A.R.T reports all is well, but I can't remember the last time I've seen S.M.A.R.T warn of approaching doom before it was too late.

    Hello pichastos,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
To troubleshoot this issue where your camera is displaying a black screen, please follow the information outlined below.
You see a closed lens or black screen
If you see a closed lens or black screen when you open the Camera app, try these steps:
Make sure that there’s nothing blocking the camera lens. If you’re using a case, try removing it.
Force the app to close, then open the Camera app again.
Restart your device, then open the Camera app again.
If your device has a front and rear camera, try both cameras by tapping  (camera swap icon). If you see the closed lens or black screen on only one camera, take your device to an Apple Retail Store or Authorized Service Provider for more help.

  • Itunes and all my movies have disappeared,i can no longer add to library from my external hdd which ive always used and can only add from the laptops own hard drive, any ideas what the issue could be?

ive recently updated, itunes and all my movies have disappeared,i can no longer add to library from my external hdd which ive always used and can only add from the laptops own hard drive, any ideas what the issue could be?if i transfer the movies from the external to the laptop they will add to the library without any problem so theres no issue with the laptop but when i go to add file in itunes i can path to the external but as soon as i select the file nothing happens, just goes back to itunes

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .
