Cannot uninstall instance of SQL Server 2014
Hello,
I have two instances of SQL Server 2014 installed and i want to uninstall them (and install SQL Server 2012 evaluation). I managed to uninstall the one instance. When i try to uninstall the second a message informs me that the operating system does not meet
the minimum requirements. I had the same proble when uninstalling SQL Server 2012 and i went to the setup file and changed the compatibility mode to Windows Vista. Is there something similar that i should do in the case of SQL Server 2014 or i should do something
totally different?
Thanks in advance,
Andreas
Hi,
Personally I have not faced this situation but this seems bug below Connect Item MS closed as not reproducable
https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/707706/unable-to-uninstall-sql-server-2012-rc0-from-control-panel
Below connect Item deals with same issue as your
https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/974626/cannot-uninstall-sql-express-2014-on-windows-7-sp1
Workaround should be instaed of uninstalling using GUI please use command prompt
Launch setup.exe from an elevated command shell. Change to the directory "c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\120\Setup Bootstrap\SQLServer2014", then type:
Setup.exe /action=uninstall
Please change uninstall script as per need
Normal uninstall Script would look like
Setup.exe /Action=Uninstall /FEATURES=SQL,AS,RS,IS,Tools /INSTANCENAME=InstanceName
Please refer to
this link for uninstall parameters

Exploring AlwaysOn Failover Cluster Instances in SQL Server 2014 Tecnet Labs
I like the Labs and have found them very usful. I have a problem with: Exploring AlwaysOn Failover Cluster Instances in SQL Server 2014. The lab starts but hangs on opening SQLONE and the Manual never loads. I have tried coming out and starting again but
get returned to the same failing session. I thought I would mention it here as the is no way to feedback a response as the appraisal only happens once the lab is completed, i.e. no apparent link on the lab site. The session ends when the HOL is reported
as not responding.Hi,
I'd try this first:

How to restore a database backup taken from a SQL Server 2012 instance to SQL Server 2014
I am trying to restore a database backup taken from a SQL Server 2012 instance to my new SQL Server 2014 instance. When I add the .bak through the Mgmt studio UI, it does not seem to find a backup set in the file so I cannot proceed (does not give
me any errors though either. I tried restoring through TSQL command but only got a database restore terminating abnormally error with no other details. How can I restore this database to SQL 2014?Hello,

SQL Server 2014 Expired-Not allow the licensed Standard Edition SSMS
Hi
I have installed SQL server 2014 Enterprise edition Trial version, It is expired, So i install the SQL server 2014 standard edition , now if i type ssms in my server,It show , Evaluation period has expired, guide me how to change the ssms instance
to my sql server standard edition
Thanks & Regards ManojManoj - For upgrading the evaluation edition , the only upgrade option will be to upgrade it to Enterprise Edition. There is no downgrade path for it.
Having said this, you can either upgrade to ENT edition or follow these steps:
Take backup of User Databases
Un-install/Remove the existing instance
Install SQL Server 2014 Standard edition and restore your databases over it
Few important considerations:
You can restore user databases to standard edition provided you are not using any enterprise class features such
Database Partitioning
Data Compression
Change Data Capture
Transparent Data Encryption
To know whether any of the above are enabled use this query:
SELECT * FROM sys.dm_db_persisted_sku_features

Create MS SQL Server 2014 instance for TSQL2012 sample database Training kit (70-461)
Hi,
I just bought the Training kit (70-461) Querying Microsoft SQL server 2012. I downloaded Microsoft SQL Server 2014. I have also downloaded the script for the sample database -
TSQL2012.sql.
Basically I want to set up the sample database and practice my SQL queries. How do I log into
Microsoft SQL Server 2014? Basically I am doing this on my home computer. It is asking me for Server type, Server name, and Authentication. Do I have to set up a server instance to run and create the sample database? How?
Thanks.
PeterDo you see anything in the Server Name at all?
So, in the first drop down you need to select Database Engine.
In the second (for Server Name) if you see anything, then try selecting it.
If there is nothing, try methods described in this article
http://sqlserver-help.com/2011/06/19/help-whats-my-sql-server-name/
to find the actual name.
Then, try choosing Windows Authentication and try connecting. If this would not work, then you do need to try using sa and sa's password. If there is no way to find that sa password, then perhaps it's better to clearly uninstall and re-install. If you want,
I'll move your thread into either 'Getting Started' or Data Access forum as it doesn't seem to be related with Transact SQL.

SQL Server 2014 with instance uninstallation
Hello Team
As i by-mistake perform the installation of SQL Server 2014 Standard edition on one of our server . I removed that instance completely but still i am able to connect that instance and able to access DB's from there instance (Server rebooted after successfully
un-installation of SQL Server).
Can some suggest why it is accessible after complete instance remove from server ?
Thanks Ranveer KatiyarFrom Add/remove programs > select 2014 and hit on the uninstall > there is pop up open for add/repair and remove > select remove and there is option for instance > choose instance and select all component for instance which one we selected and
then remove after that i get the below message for successfully installation.
Thanks Ranveer Katiyar
Uninstall is perfect so what is issue now I guess you have multiple instances and you have not uninstalled both ? Is that so.
Can you run below discovery report and post output here

I want to assign a static port to SQL Server 2008 to SQL Server 2014 named instance. Should the port be greater than 49151? The following links give contradicting information:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms177440(v=sql.105).aspx
Avoid numbers greater than 49151 which Windows might select for other purposes.
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345327(v=sql.100).aspx
Port numbers should be assigned from numbers 49152 through 65535
Thanks..I would still pick a port number below the ephemeral list (dynamic port usage [41952-65535]) as it'll reduce the chances of having a port collision when SQL Server starts up.
Also, I'd stick to lower numbers if possible (<25,000) as some firewalls skew higher port numbers to be more malicious (if heuristics are used).

SQL Server 2014 Express LocalDB automatic instance is not created
I have just installed SQL Server 2014 Developer Edition and noticed that there is no v12.0 automatic instance. Instead, there is MSSQLLocalDB automatic instance. Is this a bug?
Hi Alex,
According to your description, we need to verify if you install SQL Server 2014 Developer edition and SQL Server 2014 express edition. LocalDB is only just a lightweight version of Express version that has all its programmability features. If you install
SQL Server 2014 express LocalDB, please ensure you install automatic instances of LocalDB and not named instance of LocalDB. Usually,
when the target machine has the specified version of LocalDB installed, the automatic instance of
LocalDB for that version is available on the target machine as well. The name for the automatic instance is a single v character followed by the
LocalDB release version number in the format
xx.x. For example, v12.0 represents SQL Server 2014. For more information, see:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh510202(v=sql.120).aspx
If the issue still exists after checking the above suggestions, you can submit a feedback to Microsoft such issues, I would recommend to submit it to the Microsoft Connect at this link
https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/Feedback. This connect site will serve as a connecting point between you and Microsoft, and ultimately the large community for you and Microsoft to
interact with. Your feedback enables Microsoft to offer the best software and deliver superior services, meanwhile you can learn more about and contribute to the exciting projects on Microsoft Connect.

Hope it Helps!! -
How to clean uninstall SQL Server 2014?
Hi,
I had SQL Server 2014 Management Studio installed, and I decided to try to install CU5 to get some more of the Azure functionality back in SSMS. Unfortunately it didn't work, so I decided to uninstall SQL 2014 MS. After doing so, I realized that the CU5
update was still 'installed' in add/remove programs, and I could no longer uninstall it. I've tried reinstalling SQL Server 2014 MS, but it won't allow me to apply the CU5 update anymore. Is there any way I can either apply the CU5 update, or just nuke everything
and try to restart from scratch without reinstalling Windows? Also I have VS2013/VS2015 installed if that makes a difference (I'd really rather not have to reinstall those). Thanks!
TommySQL Server 2014 Evaluation, Already installed on Windows 2012 Server .So kindly let me know how to convert in to the License copy. Right now, We have license of SQL Server 2014.
You need to purchase valid license from Microsoft. before that please read
upgrade matrix by Microsoft which says what version can be upgraded from evaluation edition.
If you have cluster direct upgrade has limited supported please read that as well.
When you have Licensed version Just click on setup.exe file of licensed version then on window which posp up select maintenance and the select edition upgrade

Cannot Connect to Remote Named Instance of SQL Server
We have 3x instances of SQL Server 2012 installed on a single remote server - there's the default MSSQLSERVER instance, then \INSTANCE01 and \INSTANCE02. I can remotely connect to the default MSSQLSERVER instance through SSMS, but I cannot connect to
either of the additional named instances (\INSTANCE01 or \INSTANCE02).
For example, if I try to connect to "sql.domain.com", I can successfully access the default instance on the remote server. If I try to connect to "sql.domain.com\INSTANCE01", I get an error stating
"A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server".
HOWEVER - if I try to connect to "sql.domain.com\INSTANCE01, 49301" (where 49301 is the TCP Port for the TCP/IP Protocol for this SQL Server instance), I am able to successfully connect.
This leads me to think that there's a communication issue with the SQL Server Browser service running on the remote SQL Server and my workstation.
The following items have been verified:
SQL Server Browser is running on the remote SQL Server
Windows Firewall has been disabled on the SQL Server
TCP Ports 1433, 1434, 1954, and 49301 have been opened up on the remote destination's firewall
UDP Port 1434 has been opened up on the remote destination's firewall
Thoughts? Did I miss something?Hi brgnewman,
Use computername\instancename to connect to the database engine. Please try again. I think the configuration is OK.
Refer to Connecting from Another Computer:

Thanks.

Best regards,
Guiga HafedhThere are more detailed logs for the various components. The one of interesting is the one for the engine or possibly the one for full-text.
These logs are extremely verbose, and the errors are rarely crystal clear, but at least give them a try. If you have problems, find a place to upload them (Dropbox, Skrydrive etc), so that we can look.
The closest at hand is that "group" that cannot be found is an AD group.

All right, I'm at wits end. After three weeks of downloading, installing, uninstalling, downloading … ad nauseam; SQL SERVER 2014 (SQLEXPRADV_64_ENU.exe) in an attempt to obtain Sql Server Management
Studio (SSMS). I’m working on a Lenovo Thinkpad with Windows 7 Professional. SQL Server 2014 is working fine. However, no where can I find the SSMS executable. I do find the SSMS icon file (ssms.ico), ssms.pkgdef, ssms.pkgundef, ssms.splash.bmp, ssms.winprf
all in C:/Program Files (x86)/Microsoft SQL Server/120/Tools/Binn/MangementStudio; but no ssms.exe. In desperation I did reload SQL SERVER 2008 in order to have SSMS 2008 and it is up and running but doesn’t open the SQL SERVER 2014 database engine (therefore
I have no access to my database with the 2008 tool). How can I get SSMS 2014 up and running? I really hate to have to uninstall the current instance, re-download and install a new instance and then again find the SSMS executable isn’t there (that process
takes a full day). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. All right. to wrap things up I finally gave up, uninstalled all the programs associated with SQL Server 2014 (about a one hour job), then again downloaded SQL Server 2014. After reading all I could about the various versions
of the SQL Server downloads, I selected SQLEXPRWT_x64_ENU version instead of the advanced version that a tutorial suggested the first time I attempted to download the software. The SQLEXORWT is suppose to contain ssms. Once downloaded I went through the
install process (another 3 hours) and low and behold there was the ssms executable.
I was able to get everything up and running, able to connect my databases to ssms and able to get access to my database on Visual Studio 2012 through command line code. I decided to use the localDB database. The biggest problem
I had in writing the connection string was that most of the instructions on the net indicated the Server name to be (localdb)\v11.0. This didn't work for me and after some searching and using the command line found the Server name on my machine was actually
(localdb)\MSSQLLocalDB.
I still have one irritating problem. Although I can connect SSMS to my databases, and although I can connect to the databases in Visual Studio through code, I cannot connect Visual Studio itself to the database. I can connect
Visual Studio to the Server but not to the databases. When I attempt to connect to the database I get numerous error messages the two most prominentbeing "permission denied" and "Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Sdk.Stc, Version=11.0.0.0,
Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies" . Any thoughts on why Visual Studio 2012 won't connect to the databases would be greatly appreciated.
