  • Can't uninstall old version of iTunes on Windows Vista

    I have been trying to install updates for iTunes for a long time now (pretty much since update 7) and have not been able to do so because once the install occurs I'm that there is a resource network unavailable.  I'm them prompted to change the file path to something that contains "iTunes.msi".  I do that and it doesn't work.  When I search my computer for the "iTunes.msi" file it can't find it but during the download process the option is given to me when I browse, but it still doesn't work.
    I have tried a manual download of iTunes.  I have tried to uninstall iTunes from my Control Panel and get the same response as above.
    This issue is only affecting iTunes.  Other Apple programs have been able to update.
    Help.
    Thanks.

    Try using Microsoft's Fix it solution at http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall. Use it to uninstall iTunes. It bypasses this not uncommon problem. When the solution finishes, the selected program will be uninstalled. It can take several minutes and I have seen as much as half an hour.
    After it uninstalls iTunes you should be able to install the new version.

  • Unable to install iTunes 8 or to uninstall old version of iTunes

    I have an old version of iTunes (more than two years) and wish to install iTunes 8. However, I am neiher able to install the latest version of iTunes or uninstall the old one. When I try the windows uninstall program, I get the error message that the path to AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi cannot be found. It appears the update has not taken effect, but I cannot find the above update file to do that. Thoughts much apprecitated.

    I've found it !
    The answer is here : http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1838835&tstart=15
    Install the Windows Installer Cleanup tool and remove the entries for :
    . Apple Software Update
    . Bonjour
    . Quicktime
    . iTunes
    Then, the installation program will work correctly !
    1 day lost for that.
    Thansk Mr Apple to fix your installation procedure ! It is too much fragile !
    and remember that temporary directories are made to be cleaned up !

  • Cannot uninstall previous versions of iPod for Windows

    Over a year ago, my roommate gave me his old iPod. I installed it and iTunes and it worked fine until the battery on the iPod died and everything went nuts with the iPod - iTunes worked fine.
    Now i have a new 30 gig video iPod, but I can't get anything working. I had to fight to update iTunes / Quicktime. Basically, I had to run:
    "C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver\8\Intel 32\IDriver.exe" -Embedding
    from the command line. I don't know why, but it worked.
    Now I have three versions of "iPod for Windows" installed. I click to uninstall any of them (from add / remove programs) and nothing happens.
    I wouldn't care, but when I run iTunes with the iPod connected, it says "the software required for communicating with the ipod is not installed correctly."
    I've tried everything I can see, but I'm suspicious the three versions of iPod for Windows are conflicting with each other and / or iTunes.
    Can anyone offer any help?
    Thanks in advance.
    Sony Vaio Laptop   Windows XP

    Yes it is, the iPod updater was integrated with iTunes when version 7 was released. As a back up, you might want to keep the last one in case you ever needed it but dispose of the rest, they are just taking up space.

  • Cannot uninstall old version of PS CS2

    I updated my mac to lion recently and even though I have a new version of CS5 I still have an old student version of CS2 that I cannot unistall with the "unistall program" that comes with the program. Lion doesn't support any PowerPC application.  I asked at the mac forum how to get rid of this old version but they told me to refer to this forum. Anybody?   I thought I could just drag and drop to the trash but would that really unistall all the program? I will do the same for illustrator, indesign and acrobat as I have CS2.
    Thanks in advance for any commnets on this.

    If you're being flooded with this (literally every second) in /var/log/messages I would recommend applying patch 5679560 (if you have access to metalink):
    Oct 16 11:05:06 vmerin su(pam_unix)[8725]: session closed for user oracle
    Oct 16 11:05:06 vmerin su(pam_unix)[8768]: session opened for user oracle by (uid=0)
    This will reduce the load significantly.

  • Cannot uninstall old version of Qt

    Hi all,
    Sorry if this is not a right place to ask this question. I just recently switch to Mac and am a newbie indeed. Here is my problem:
    I build and install several Qt developer suites from source using the traditional Unix method (configure, make, make install, etc.) with option framework disabled (I want to use the libraries in the form of .dylib only). Now when I installed new version of Qt (4.6.2) and linked my program to this new set of libraries, everything went fine; but at runtime, the system keeps complaining that there are 2 different versions of libraries and that it does not know what to use. Something like this:
    <Quote>
    objc[2450]: Class QMacSoundDelegate is implemented in both /usr/local/Qt-4.6.2/lib/libQtGui.4.dylib and /usr/local/Qt-4.5.3/lib/libQtGui.4.dylib. One of the two will be used. Which one is undefined.
    </Quote>
    Even-though if I delete the old library folder, this error still appear. Where in the system does Mac kernel keep track of what software version being installed? I looked everywhere but couldn't find it (/System/Library/Application Support, /System/Library/CoreServices, etc.)
    Please help.

    You cannot install QuickTime 4, or indeed any downloadable version of QuickTime, in Mac OS X 10.6 and have it work. Forcing it into Mac OS X 10.6 is very likely to have caused damage to the operating system by overwriting critical files. The only effective way you're probably going to find to remove it is to reinstall Mac OS X 10.6.
    If you want to have access to old versions of QuickTime, you need to be running a compatible version of Mac OS X, on a development system, one with a PowerPC processor since no version of Mac OS X old enough to run QuickTime 4.x will run on an Intel-based Mac. If you need to run multiple QT versions, create separate volumes, each with its own copy of Mac OS X and different version of QuickTime.

  • Uninstalling All versions of Java from Windows Silent

    Hi Everyone,
    If there is something somewhere on Sun sites that does this already I appologize, but I have to get all previous version of Java from Sun uninstalled from over 700 hundred PCs and so I have created a set of scripts to uninstall all previous versions.
    You would copy 'java-uninstall.bat' and 'java-uninstaller.vbs' to c:\temp (make sure you have one) the script can be modified for another location of your choosing. Then you can execite the batch file or have it scheduled to do that with the NT 'AT' command. It will uninstall anything that shows up in Add/Remove programs with 'Java' in the displayname and 'Sun' as the publisher. This would including removal of SDK amd JRE versions, so keep that in mind.
    This could probably be used in the login script, but thats not how I deploy updates, it may be fashioned to work with SMS, I don't know. I have a script that goes through network copying files to c$ shares and scheduling it for later in the night.
    Also note this just uninstalls the older versions I have another script that does the reinstalling of the newer version.
    Files below:
    [java-uninstall.bat]
    REM <start>
    @echo off
    if not exist c:\temp\. mkdir c:\temp
    REM Export the Uninstall registry keys
    start /wait "" REGEDIT /E c:\temp\registry.tmp HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\microsoft\windows\currentversion\uninstall
    REM Filter only the {} keys that Java might be in
    type c:\temp\registry.tmp | find /i "\{" | find /i "}]" > c:\temp\uninstall.tmp
    REM Run the Vbscript that uses this file to find Java Sun entries to uninstall
    cscript c:\temp\java-uninstaller.vbs
    REM <end>
    [java-uninstaller.vbs]
    '<start>
    Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
    Dim fso, MyFile
    Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
    Const ForReading = 1, ForWriting = 2
    'Open the exported registry file
    Set MyFile = fso.OpenTextFile("c:\temp\uninstall.tmp", ForReading)
    Do While mYFile.AtEndOfStream <> True
         ReadLineTextFile = MyFile.ReadLine
         Uninstall = ReadLineTextFile
         CLSID = Mid(Uninstall, 73, 38)
         On Error Resume Next
         'DisplayName
         DisplayName=WshShell.RegRead("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\"+CLSID+"\DisplayName")
         'Publisher
         Publisher=WshShell.RegRead("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\"+CLSID+"\Publisher")
         'Search for presence of Java and Sun in DisplayName and Publisher
         search1 = Instr(1, DisplayName, "Java", 1)
         search2 = Instr(1, Publisher, "Sun", 1)
         'Execute removal if there is a match
         Uninstaller="MsiExec.exe /X"&CLSID+" /QN"
         if search1>0 And search2>0 Then Return = WshShell.Run(Uninstaller , 1, TRUE)
    Loop
    '<end>

    Here is a batch file that I wrote to accomplish the same objective of uninstalling all versions of Java Virtual Machine JVM from a XP/Vista box:
    You can name it anything you like, such as cleanjava.bat:
    @echo off & cls
    Rem List all Installation subkeys from uninstall key.
    echo Searching Registry for Java Installs
    for /f %%I in ('reg query HKLM\SOFTWARE\microsoft\windows\currentversion\uninstall') do echo %%I | find "{" > nul && call :All-Installations %%I
    echo Search Complete..
    goto :EOF
    :All-Installations
    Rem Filter out all but the Sun Installations
    for /f "tokens=2*" %%T in ('reg query %1 /v Publisher 2^> nul') do echo %%U | find "Sun" > nul && call :Sun-Installations %1
    goto :EOF
    :Sun-Installations
    Rem Filter out all but the Sun-Java Installations. Note the tilda + n, which drops all the subkeys from the path
    for /f "tokens=2*" %%T in ('reg query %1 /v DisplayName 2^> nul') do echo  . Uninstalling - %%U: | find "Java" && call :Sun-Java-Installs %~n1
    goto :EOF
    :Sun-Java-Installs
    Rem Run Uninstaller for the installation
    MsiExec.exe /x%1 /qb
    echo  . Uninstall Complete, Resuming Search..
    goto :EOFAdditional Info: http://tinyurl.com/29cdah

  • Cannot Uninstall old version of Quicktime

    I use my grandparents' computer for my iTunes and it was fine, but we had a couple problems so my grandpa wiped everything he didn't use...including iTunes!
    I tried reinstalling the new version, but then it said it would't work because Quicktime wasn't installed.
    So, I tried installing Quicktime 7. The Download was fine, but then during the Installation (after agreeing to the Terms and Services, they tell you to click install) there's a window that comes up that says:
    "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailible. Click 'OK' to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'QuickTime.msi' in the box below...
    I asked my uncle and he said I have to look manually for the Quicktime folder because it might've gotten moved around when we got the computer looked at, but I've looked absolutely everywhere and there's no sign that QuickTime is even on the computer!
    And now, after clicking out of the pop-up, the new window says: "The older version of QuickTime cannot be removed...please contact your technical support group."
    I don't want to spend a lot of money, but I have about $300 saved up on my iTunes, and I really want to start to add more to my library. Is there any way I can get QuickTime up so I can start using iTunes?

    "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailible. Click 'OK' to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'QuickTime.msi' in the box below...
    That message is usually caused by a damaged QuickTime.msi rather than a missing one.
    Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from Microsoft:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
    Now run the utility ("Start > All programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs in CleanUp select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
    Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing QuickTime again. Does the install go through properly this time?

    Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
