Cannot uninstall previous version of Adobe Reader 9.4.5?

When I try to uninstall this version of the reader I get an error: This patch package could not be opened.Verify it exits or verify it is a valid windows patch pkg.
So there it sits next to adobe X.
I get updates every time i turn around.
it is madening.
ANY IDEAS?

You may want to try the following.
Remove all traces of Reader (not only the program) from your system using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. This is no longer supported by Microsoft because it can produce problems with Win 7, but you can still download it from from places like
http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
Then, if you want to install Reader, download its  installer from
http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
and perform a clean install.

You can use the Acrobat Cleaner Tool from http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
This will remove all versions of Adobe Reader and Acrobat.

  • Trusted certificates from your previous version of Adobe Reader were found.

After upgrading Adobe Reader from 10 to 11, some users are getting "Adobe Reader Security - Trusted certificates from your previous version of Adobe Reader were found.  Would you like to import them."  I need to know what registry settings we can modify to either set this automatically to "Import" or "Use Default"  I need to add one of these options into our Adobe Reader Settings GPO that is using group policy preferences.  This only appears for users who have data in C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Acrobat\10.0\Security and only the very first time the user opens Adobe Reader after the upgrade per user profile on a given server.

I'm not sure this is true: "If they don't exist then there is no dialog. " Could be, but I've never heard of it.
However, acrodata files perform a number of functions for several features, so removing them is unwise. Also, they will just come back when a user exercizes certain features.
Better to just turn off the feature with the supported preference.

  • Can I uninstall previous versions of Adobe Apps in my creative cloud and still use the current 2014 versions of the same apps.

I want to stream line the amount of applications on my MAC. I currently have the CS6, CC, and CC2014 version of the Adobe applications. Can I uninstall the CS6 and CC versions and still run the CC2014 version without any issues?

  • Uninstall previous version with Adobe Customized Wizard

Good day everyone. I am just beginning to use Adobe Customized wizard 9 to be used with SCCM (newer version of SMS).  I have already extracted the exe to get to the msi file, but looking at the wizard, these options are grayed out and cannot be checked off.  Actually the option to remove previous versions of Acrobat is checked (which I need it unchecked) and remove previous versions of Reader is unchecked. Any idea of the work around? We currently have in our environment versions 6-9 and we want everyone to be upgraded to 9.2.   Also will this Customized wizard corrupt or change any settings for those that have both ReEader and Writer?  Any help or info greatly appreciated.  Thanks

  • Cannot uninstall, update, or open Adobe Reader 9.3.1

I am running Windows XP 32-bit.  I recently updated to Adobe Reader X and want to uninstall Adobe Reader 9.3.1, but cannot. I have tried uninstalling using Add/Remove Programs, I have tried updating to 9.3.2 by downloading the appropriate update file from adobe.com, and I have tried opening Adobe Reader 9 to ask for updates from the Help menu.  None of these worked, because as soon as I tried to "Remove" Adobe Reader 9 in the first instance, as soon as I tried to open the executable update file in the 2nd instance, and as soon as I clicked on Adobe Reader 9 to open it in the 3rd instance, I got the same message: "This patch package could not be opened.  Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package."
I think this problem may be related to the fact that I recently did a System Restore on my computer because I had a virus that was not being caught by Norton Antivirus.  After the System Restore, I fully updated all my programs and Mozilla plug-ins, which caused Adobe Reader X to download.  Since I no longer need Adobe Reader 9, I'd like to get it off my computer.
The only thread I could find on this issue in this forum was from March 2010, and the user was referred to the Windows Installer Clean-up Utility.  This utility is no longer available from Microsoft, so I couldn't resolve the issue with that method.
Thanks for any suggestions you may have!  I am not especially computer savvy, so detailed instructions are much appreciated.

The Windows Installer Cleanup Utility is still available on 3rd-party download sites, e.g. http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459

  • How do you uninstall previous versions of Acrobat Reader?

I've just installed Version 9.2 but I still have version 8.1.6 installed. I've tried to uninstall it with "add or remove programs" in control panel and I get some error message about a valid Windows Installer Patch Package. Any ideas?

  • Cannot uninstall, repair, or reinstall Adobe Reader

I think this suddenly happened a few days ago (no clue what the cause is), but since then no pdf files would have that pdf icon, they've all returned to the ugly "general file" icon, though it could still be opened with Adobe Reader. I have version 9.3.4 that was installed when I used a C drive backup to reformat C. So I tried to repair Adobe Reader to fix this icon problem, but it gives an error, "error 2318: file does not exist...", exact error in the attached screenshot. Same error occurs if I choose to uninstall too. So I also tried to install a newer version (9.4) directly over 9.3.4 without uninstalling, and absolutely nothing happened. I basically installed that add-on for firefox, let the Adobe dowload manager do its work installing Reader and McAfee (don't remember agreeing to installing this though?), then it has a checkmark indicating it's installed successfully, but when I go to programs list to check nothing's changed, no new programs installed and still says 9.3.4.

  • Cannot uninstall previous versions of iPod for Windows

Over a year ago, my roommate gave me his old iPod. I installed it and iTunes and it worked fine until the battery on the iPod died and everything went nuts with the iPod - iTunes worked fine.
Now i have a new 30 gig video iPod, but I can't get anything working. I had to fight to update iTunes / Quicktime. Basically, I had to run:
    "C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver\8\Intel 32\IDriver.exe" -Embedding
from the command line. I don't know why, but it worked.
Now I have three versions of "iPod for Windows" installed. I click to uninstall any of them (from add / remove programs) and nothing happens.
I wouldn't care, but when I run iTunes with the iPod connected, it says "the software required for communicating with the ipod is not installed correctly."
I've tried everything I can see, but I'm suspicious the three versions of iPod for Windows are conflicting with each other and / or iTunes.
    Can anyone offer any help?
    Thanks in advance.

Yes it is, the iPod updater was integrated with iTunes when version 7 was released. As a back up, you might want to keep the last one in case you ever needed it but dispose of the rest, they are just taking up space.

  • Should I uninstall previous versions of adobe software when I install a new version?

I have been using Creative Cloud for a couple of years now and have always wondered why I would need an older version of the software. Considering these unused versions of software are just sitting on my hard drive and taking up space.... can anyone think of any good reason why I shouldn't uninstall these old software versions of Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.?
    Thanks, Tom

It can depend on which versions these older versions are.  If they are Cloud versions then I wouldn't think twice about getting rid of the older ones.  But if they are from a Creative Suite you might find that they have functionality that the newer versions had stripped out of them  Flash, for instance, had a number of useful functional elements ripped out of it when they came out with the Cloud version.

  • Cannot reinstall itunes, cannot uninstall previous version

I need to uninstall itunes as suggested so I can install windows 7, but all if it will not uninstall... I get a message that the old itunes cannot be removed. I removed everything as per itunes uninstall instructions, but this one file will not be removed. I keep getting the message "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" and "the installation source for this product is not available.. verify that the source exists and that you can access it" I have searched the entire computer for other itunes files including itunes.msi which seems to be the missing file. To no avial. So I cannot reinstall itunes!! (still using Vista have not put windows 7 in yet waiting for a bit so I wanted itunes back in my computer) How do I get rid of this last file?

  • Adobe Reader Customization uninstall previous versions

Hello, I deployed Adobe Reader XI through Group Policy, Windows Server 2003. I used the Adobe Reader XI Customization Tool, and created a transform. I left the option checked to uninstall previous versions of Reader. Adobe Reader XI installed with all other settings configured properly that were created in the transform; however, the previous version, Adobe Reader X, did not uninstall. Has anyone experience this issue? If so, how did you get the other version of Adobe uninstalled?

Make sure the last thing you do in the wizard (right before you save) is check the box. There is a current bug in the customization wizard that will uncheck that option if you do anything else afterwards. There is a note of the bug in the wizard documentation located here (see the note in section 6.2): http://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Wizard/installoptions.html#remove-insta lled-products
The note reads: "There is a current bug in which this checkbox becomes unchecked if any other feature is configured. Therefore, if you want to remove all versions of Reader, check this box as your last action before you save the modified package."

  • Reader 11 not uninstalling previous versions when installed via GPO MSI

I donwloaded the Reader 11 msi, patched it to 11.0.1, then with the version 11 customization wizard told it uninstall previous versions of Reader. When I push the transformed msi via a gpo it installs 11 and all of the other setting I set in the transform, like suppress EULA are applied, but Reader 10 still exists after the install.
    Whats going on?

You can try using this tool to remove all traces of previous versions of Reader:
