  • Cannot uninstall programs

    Hi!
    I am running on Vista Home Premium. When I try to remove programs in Control Panel/Programs and features I sometimes get refused.
    The latest Programs that I have tried to remove are Volo View 3 and Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor, (which I only installed today)! The messages I receive are: "Windows Installer - The System Administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." (Then click OK button), then the message: "Installed Updates - You do not have sufficient access to uninstall Autodesk Volo View 3. Please contact your system administrator". (Then the OK button).
    Im the System Administrator. I have had the PC since new and I am the only "User". I have set the maximum permissions in the Security Tabs for the programs that I am trying to remove, but to no avail! However, cannot access "Special Permissions". If I cannot access it as an Administrator, what is the point of it being there? This must be a Vista thing!
    Advice would be appreciated
    Best regards
    Peter

    Hi
    Many thanks *exseadog/uk.* That seems to have done the trick! I have also switched it back on.
    I have toggled the UAC a couple of times but when the Security Alert comes up I have always erred on the side of caution! However, I would like to know why it is only applicable to certain Programs. I have previously removed Programs which I no longer require/experimental, with no difficulty. I do not ever remember having this problem with previous versions of Windows, (after DOS my first Windows was V3.0, shows my age)!
    I am going to mark this query as being answered but if you or anybody else can enlighten me as to why only certain (unimportant), Programs require the UAC to be unchecked, I would be very appreciative!
    Best regards

  • I cannot uninstall a program

    I purchased Business in a Box some time ago and was using the program without any problems. After a while I was not able to launch it and sent the details to Apple, contacted support at Busines in a Box that advised me that it was an error that was corrected. Since then they have instructed me to uninstall the program and reinstall the new version.
    I CANNOT uninstall the program.
    Has anyone ever used this program with similar issues?

    I've had a look at their website and they seem to be saying you need to run the INSTALLER, which then has an option to UNINSTALL.  Have you tried this?
    They also say to try this as an alternative:
    1. Open the application "Activity Monitor" on your Mac and search for Box Sync. Select "Quit Process" then choose "Force Quit."
    2. Open "System Preferences," then right-click on the Box Sync icon and choose "Remove Box Sync Preference Pane"
    3. Open "Finder" on your Mac, navigate to "~/Library/Application Support" and delete the "Box" folder by moving it to the trash
    4. Restart your computer
    Any help???

  • Why is it that I cannot uninstall because the program was from an unidentified developer

    Why is it that I cannot uninstall a program because the program was from an unidentified developer?

    Might have an answer for you if I understood what you are asking.
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
    Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
    Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
    Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
    Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
    Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
    If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
    Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
    There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
        1. AppZapper 2.0.1
        2. AppDelete 3.2.6
        3. Automaton 1.50
        4. Hazel
        5. AppCleaner 2.1.0
        6. CleanApp
        7. iTrash 1.8.2
        8. Amnesia
        9. Uninstaller 1.15.1
      10. Spring Cleaning 11.0.1

    Try running several malware scanners to see if Kaspersky missed anything. It is best to run several as each will pick up things that the others miss. Some scanners you can try are:
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php Malwarebytes]
    * [http://www.superantispyware.com/ SUPERAntiSpyware]
    * [http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php Ad-Aware]
    * [http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/defender/default.mspx Windows Defender]
    * [http://www.safer-networking.org/en/home/index.html Spybot S&D]
    If the above malware scanners do not find any malware or can not clear it, you should consider posting in one of these forums for specialized malware removal help:

  • HT1923 I cannot uninstall an old Bonjoure component from programs, therefore, I cannont reinstall Itunes.

    I am trying to reinstall Itunes but I get a message indicating that the OLD "Bonjoure" component must be uninstalled and I cannot uninstall it. Therefore, I am being prevented from reinstalling Itunes....I have already uninstalled all the other components....also, the old Itunes installations are still visible in my programs with a blank book as an icon.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

    Cannot uninstall certain apps. Specifically, Adobe Photo Lightroom and Jawbone Updater. Is there away to uninstall these programs?

    I am no expert but it seems that someone tried to log in as admin 2 many times using the wrong password and the entire system is "locked"
    In the interest of time I would recommend re installing the os...You already spend 2 days trying to fix this..it would take you about 1 hour to reinstall
    I am sure you have back ups?! Good Luck !

  • Mozilla/Firefox 4 will not install on my computer and I cannot uninstall any old Mozilla/Firefox programs and files still on my computer.

    Firefox won't load onto my computer. I have Windows 7, and each time I try to run the program to install it, it tells me I have another version still waiting to be installed that requires my computer to reboot. When I check "yes" to reboot, my computer reboots but still no Firefox. When I try to uninstall the the old Mozilla program from my Control Panels, there is no Mozilla files or programs listed not in my list of programs but when I go directly to the Windows File on the C: Drive, there's a Mozilla program file there. WHen I go into that file check, I attempt to open the uninstall program. I get an error message that says something to the effect of: "the version Mozilla on this computer is not compatable with my OS." Something about it being and 86bit program. My Firefox 3.6 worked fine 2 days ago. What's wrong???

    Ok, lets do a couple of steps here first:
    To make sure your windows isn't corrupted because of the power outage, let's run chkdsk.
    Click on My Computer, then right click your C: Drive (if you have other hard drives, you will want to run this on them as well). Then, click Properties. Inside that window, go to the Tools tab. Inside that tab, open up the "Check Now" button. That will open a smaller window. Select the checkbox to "Automatically fix file system errors", then hit Start. You will probably receive an error asking if you want to schedule the disk check, click Yes, then restart your computer.
    Read [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265] for more information.
    After running the chkdsk, then please go to [http://www.getfirefox.com www.getfirefox.com], and download a fresh version of Firefox. I'm assuming you are using Internet Explorer to download Firefox. Instead of hitting Run, let's try hitting save. Remember where it saves the installer file on your computer.
    After the download has finished, double-click and run the Firefox install. Once it is finished, try to start Firefox up. Let me know how it goes!

  • Search protect icon in system tray (still there after deleting)

    Hello i got infected with search protect (conduit). In my firefox, IE and Chrome browser my startpage got changed to mystartsearch or something like that.
    I changed the startpages and deleted installed programs by the normal windows add and remove programmes tool in the configuration screen. I ran kaspersky.
    Everything was cleaned it seemed besides 2 things. When i clicked new tab in firefox the mystartsearch page started in that tab. I solved this bij intalling a firefox tab add on. Than i changed the page that had to open when opening a new tab.
    Another problem is a blue e icon in my system tray that i can't get away. It is started when my computer starts up. I can't click it, nothing happens. When i move with my mouse over it, "search protect, click to configure" is shown.
    I disabeld programs in my startup configuration. I searched fot this program, but i can 't find anything than seems to be related to search protect. I searched for removal assistance on the internet but i can only find A to Z procedures, which are useless. The program already seems to be deleted from my computer but the icon keeps starting up on my computer.
    Can somebody help? Do i have to reinstall search protect to delete it properly? And where can i find a "harmless" version of this program? It is a bit sick to reinstall an infected programm to redelete it. I prefer other solutions, but that icon on startup is irritating me and i wonder if it is still harming my computer.

    You already uninstalled Search Protect from the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program? Could you check again for anything strange. After the list loads, I suggest clicking the "Installed on" column heading to group items by install date. This can help surface innocently named bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.
    You can search for remaining issues with the '''scanning/cleaning tools''' listed in our support article: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]]. These on-demand scanners are free and take considerable time to run. If they finish quickly and especially if they require payment, you may have a serious infection. I suggest the specialized forums listed in the article in that case.
    Regarding the new tab page, you shouldn't need an add-on to regain control.
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''newtab''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the '''browser.newtab.url''' preference and enter your preferred page:
    * ''Page thumbnails (default)'' => about:newtab
    * ''Blank tab'' => about:blank
    * ''Built-in Firefox home page'' => about:home
    * ''Any other page'' => full URL to the page
    Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked. Fixed?
    Some gotchas:
    ''If Firefox won't let you edit this setting:'' you may still have SearchProtect on your system.
    ''If Firefox lets you save your change but ignores it:'' one of your other extensions may be overriding it. You can review, disable, and/or remove extensions on the add-ons page:
    "3-bar" Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > ''in the left column click'' Extensions
    ''If the change works during your session, but at the next startup is back to MyStart:'' you might have a user.js file in your personal Firefox settings folder (your Firefox profile folder). This article describes how to track down and remove the file: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
    Any luck?

  • Adobe Setup cannot uninstall?

    Hi why I cannot uninstall the Adobe Setup?, it stays in my PC and disallows me to install or unistall other Abode products.

    If you have just installed this, can you do a System Restore to a point just prior, to roll things back?  It’s easily possible that CS3 can’t be installed on Win7.  Can you show screen-captures of the errors you’re getting?
    Do you know that you’re installing real Adobe software and not some pirated version that has an activation-blocking program that is trying to protect itself by not allowing you to uninstall it nor install other Adobe software that might detect it?  I am suspicious of something being called Adobe Setup that would be listed as a separate item in Programs and Features that could be uninstalled, if that is what you mean is happening.

  • Cannot uninstall and then reinstall Adobe Air

    It has been working fine before; the BBC iplayer ask me to reinstall Adobe Air recently.

    I have a similar problem. AdobeAir for me is associated with BBC iPlayer. Recently it told me of an update but then said I needed administrator permission. The computer is my own and I am the administrator. I have tried to uninstall via Control Panel but I cannot do that either without administrator permission. My platform in Windows XP. I have also downloaded a new version of Adobe Air from the website and tried installing that but again it asks for administrator permission. Has anyone any idea how to get around this?

  • Running Firefox 4.0 on Windows 7 crashes when opening - no solutions to date work and I cannot uninstall it.

    I've tried going through all the solutions I can find including trying unlock my profile (parent.lock), or create a new profile (profile manager crashes too), opening it in safe mode (it won't - still crashes), running it as administrator (also crashes) and I cannot uninstall it (that crashes too). The Crash Reporter/Manager also crashes and locks up so I cannot submit this issue. I'm at a loss.

    Hit CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to bring up Windows Task Manager, go to the Processes tab and look for '''firefox.exe''' If you find it, right click it and choose Kill Process.
    What I suggest next is to perform a clean installation as follows:
    * Go to [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/fx/?ref=logo Download Firefox 4.0] and download a fresh installation file to the desktop. In this particular case, I'd recommend downloading the file with either IE8 or 9. Choose to save the file to your desktop when you see the prompt.
    * Then go to Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to Mozilla Firefox and remove it, choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc., (don't checkmark the box).
    * Then reboot and delete the folder called Mozilla Firefox at this location: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    * Finally run the installation file you downloaded to the desktop earlier.
    Your bookmarks, customizations etc., will be retained in a separate folder and will become available again once the reinstallation completes.
    If you prefer to go back to the previous secure version which is 3.6.16, use this link instead: [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html Download Firefox v3.6.16] Otherwise the procedure is the same.
