Cannot Uninstall Quicktime

I need help uninstalling Quicktime which will not uninstall using the standard Windows uninstall tools.
I have Quicktime installed under Windows 7. It installed OK, but when I try to run it the process starts then finishes with neither a window opening nor an error message. When I try to uninstall it via the control panels (as a prelude to a re-install) the uninstall operation gets near the end, then the installation is rolled-back leaving Quicktime installed.
How to I get this apparently cemented copy of Quicktime completely off my laptop?

Before I uninstalled it I got error messages saying Quicktime was not up-to-date, which started me down this path.
Okay ... They aren't classical versions of the symptoms (still, those change on a regular basis), but you're getting enough things going on here to make me suspect that some other application (other than QuickTime itself) has stashed old QuickTime componentry down in your system files. (That can cause QuickTime launch and install trouble, and also those "out-of-date" messages when launching iTunes.)
So we'll go looking for the older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
Open the "Windows" folder.
*If you have a 32-bit version of Windows,* open the "System32" folder.
*If you have a 64-bit version of Windows,* open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • Cannot uninstall Quicktime 7.02!!!

    Hi,
I cannot uninstall QuickTime 7.02 from my computer. As a result, I cannot access my itunes, because version 6.0 requires QT 7.03!!
    Please help!!
    Without music!!

QuickTime is a "System" component and it installs hundreds of parts all over the OS.
Safest method to revert to an earlier version is to "Archive and Install" from your original Leopard DVD and then use Software Update to stop just short of 7.6.4.

  • I cannot uninstall Quicktime

Ok, so my iTunes was not working properly, so I decided to uninstall everything. I uninstalled iTunes just fine, but am having a really hard time uninstalling Quicktime. Everytime I try to uninstall the program, it will tell me that an error occured and the task cannot be completed. I tried going to the control panel, and this didn't work, and I tried just reinstalling and this doesn't work either. My quicktime isn't working and I can't get it off my computer. Any suggestions would be so much appreciated...I'm going on vactaion in three weeks and I'd love to have my iTunes up and running so I can update my iPod for my trip.
    Thanks
    JD

Ok, so thank you for your suggestion! I tried using the clean up Utility and it did allow me to uninstall the program, which is great! Now, on to the next issue. I tried reinstalling both quicktime and iTunes. It finally allowed me to reinstall Quicktime without any problems, but as soon as it was installed I went to run it and a Window's box came up that told me that the program encountered an error and needs to close. The same thing happens obviously when I try to open iTunes. So, since the error was immediate after installing the program, I'm guessing there is a glitch in the actual program. SO......I am wondering if maybe an older version of Quicktime may be the solution. Any suggestions? I've had older versions of Quicktime on this computer before and they ran just fine, so I wonder if installing an older version (where do I find one?) would solve the problem
    Ok, thanks in advance

  • I cannot uninstall QuickTime because of a "Fatal error during installation."

I want to un-install itunes.  Following the iTunes support guideline, I first removed iTunes.  I then clicked on REMOVE Quicktime in the Control Panel.
I received the message "Please wait while windows configures Quicktime".
I then received the error message "Fatal error during installation" - OK.
How can I now remove Quicktime and follow on through the Support route of the remaining iTunes elements?

DEPs for iTunes and a fatal error when trying to uninstall QuickTime.
I think we'd better see if some other application (other than QuickTime itself) has dropped old QuickTime componentry in the system files on the PC. (If there's a version mismatch between the old componentry and the "QuickTime proper" componentry, that can create those symptoms, including the uninstall errors.)
So we'll go looking for the older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view options on the PC.
    1. Open My Computer from the desktop or Start menu.
    2. In the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected, and the "Hide extensions for known file types" option is unchecked.
    5. Click OK.
Now in My Computer, open your C drive.
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "system32" folder.
What files and/or folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the file/folder name? (In a standard installation of QuickTime, you should see precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • Itunes will not open/ cannot uninstall quicktime

Since restoring my PC following installation of replacement harddrive, I cannot get into itunes. It says itunes has encountered problem and needs to close. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but it will not let me uninstall Quicktunes. I get a DLL function call crashed error. Can anyone help? Thanks/

    Emma,
I was able to get my iTunes working again - I can't remember the exact order of my steps as I was at my wits end, but I did have luck when I followed the Windows Troubleshooting tips for "Clean up iTunes installer files on the computer" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
I believe that I did the following steps:
-I installed the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility then opened it via Start/All Programs/Windows Install Cleanup. (see more detailed instructions in the article referenced above.)
    - I selected iTunes from the list and clicked Remove
    - I also selected QuickTime from the list and clicked Remove.
    - I restarted my PC after exiting Windows Installer Cleanup
    - I checked for QuickTime and iTunes in my Control Panel/Add Remove Programs and removed them if they existed
    - I may have restarted my PC again at this point
    - I then downloaded standalone versions of QuickTime (I did this before iTunes) and iTunes. I found the links to the standalone versions of these applications on the same document with the Clean up iTunes Installer files instructions.
    - I did another re-start of my PC
After doing this, my iTunes miraculously worked again and all of my song files were intact from the restore that I did after clearing my hard drive.
I urge you to try this at your own risk... it worked for me, but I'm not an expert. Maybe someone else will see this and can confirm that this is a good fix for you too. I'm sure if you're as frustrated as I was, you are willing to try almost anything!
    Good luck!

  • Cannot uninstall quicktime,or repair it

hi can anyone help. i tried to get rid of quicktime player on my pc, its starts to unimstall but then a message comes up{ fatel error during installation}, same if i try to repair it,helppppp

+so if i install a win avi converter, storm codec etc i will be able to remove quicktime then rienstall it!!!+
Other way around. Folks report not being able to uninstall or reinstall QuickTime (and typically get your error message) after having installed one of those packages. So the first thing we try is uninstalling those other pacakages (if they are present) to see if we can get QuickTime to uninstall or reinstall.

  • Cannot uninstall QuickTime & Error 1905 message

  • HELP cannot install itunes, uninstall itunes or uninstall quicktime

Hello - Went to upgrade my orig ver of itunes ver 6.0 to the video version to grab some music videos, and that is when all went to ****.
Got an error message that itunes was unable to install to my PC. PC is p4 running winXP sp2/3.
    Error code: -3
Went to uninstall itunes, and got another error message that itunes was unable to complete the task with NO error code.
Also went to uninstall quicktime, and apparently the uninstall is not on my computer. I reinstalled quicktime, which was successful, but after rebooting and then trying to uninstall quicktime again, i got same error message quicktime uninstall cannot be found, quicktime cannot be uninstalled.
I did manage to get itunes successfully uninstalled.
After reboot and clearing out temp files and cache then again rebooting, then attempting to reinstall itunes VER 6.0 just the plain version for windows, NOT the video version, i again got error message that itunes was unable to install on my PC.
    PLEASE HELP.
i cannot seem to load in a successful ver of itunes to listen to music, nor uninstall/install quicktime.
    FYI -
Quicktime will not work when opened through itunes and through start menu, but will work when opened in the program and actually clicking on the .exe button.
pls help! i just want regular ver of itunes without video now, just want to listen to music what i bought, thnx

YES it is a Windows 98 based software, since i was unable to find older ver of Quicktime, i used what i had.
Incidentally, i figured out that when i went to install the Video ver of itunes, the ver 6.0 did not completely uninstall, some files were somehow corrupted.
There is a round about fix located on the windows tech support section which deleted previous Windows installer programs that in turn deletes older versions of programs, you pick from a list that the program detects, and it will delete all older versions.
Here is the link, if you know anyone that needs it..
it fixed my PC, after using this program i was able to successfully install 1st- the standalone version of quicktime, then itunes without incident.

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing QuickTime again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • HT1926 When Installing new version error is quicktime cannot uninstall old version

When trying to install new version of Quicktime, I get a error message that quicktime cannot uninstall old version. This also affects Itunes to work. Get Message Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. I think not having quicktime working affects my Itunes from launching.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATION" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up").
In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:

  • "Cannot uninstall older version of quicktime"

That's the error I get when I try to install iTunes. When I try to uninstall quicktime it says the resource for QuickTime.msi is unavailable. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to fix this so I can install iTunes.

Try Windows Installer Cleanup Utility it might remove the old QuickTime.msi installer, then you should be able to download and install QT. You'll have to download it from the geeks

When I try to install itunes a message tells me I have a newer version of quicktime installed and the installation cannot proceed
