Cannot uninstall reader 8.1.4 with add/remove or manually

I cannot uninstall using add/remove or with the manual instructions in KB400769. Add/remove gives me a 1402 error and the key has "unknown" in it. KB400769 fails when removing registered files acdoiehelper.dll, acropdf.dll, and pdfshell.dll with "access denied".  Windows install clean up doesn't seem to have any effect except to remove it from the add/remove list. Updates to 8.1.4 don't work (1402 again) nor does trying to download 9 (1402). How in the world do I get rid of it so I can install later versions of reader?

Have you looked in the registry to see if there are still entries in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Java?
You should erase all files in the various JavaHome directories that are listed in the registry. You can also erase the registry entries, but of course, be careful because damaging the registry can kill Windows.
Also, java.exe and javaw.exe are frequently stored in the "Windows" system directory. You should delete these files as well.

  • Cannot uninstall Reader 9

    I am one of the few people in my company with an Acrobat Professional for Windows license. I need this license to do my job as a tech writer. I am lucky to have this license. We have a freeze on software purchases and upgrades. The only reason I have this license is because the previous user got laid off.
    Meanwhile, our desktop support group periodically runs scripts that push various updates, including Reader 9, upon connecting to the network. This hoses up my Acrobat Professional 8 installation every bloody time. I have tried and tried, but I cannot convince these people to change their scripts to check for other versions of Acrobat.
    I am unable to completely uninstall Reader 9. It reappears in the Add or Remove Programs dialog box after I reboot.
    I need a procedure to manually remove Reader 9 from Windows XP.

    what is  Microsoft Installer Cleanup Tool. somehow i got reader 9.1.1 and keep getting hit with need to update to 9.1.2. 9.1.2 will down load but it will not install..
    when i go to add/remove and try to remove 9.1.1, i get error saying i do not have a patch to remove and i can not get it to uninstall. my os is xp sp3.

  • Cannot uninstall reader 9.3.2 or install update

    The latest update will not install.  When I try to uninstall Acrobat Reader I get this message:  The installation source for this product is not available...  Windows Installer CleanUp Utility is no longer available.  How do I uninstall Reader?  I an running Windows XP SP3

    Thanks Walt, I agree with you, the answer from the upside down person
    standing on his head was really stupid as well as rude.
    I had a similar issue when I wanted to uninstall Microsoft Office 2010,
    another Bill Gate's abortion. It took about a week of copying and deleting
    over a hundred Registry entries before I could make it go away. The I had to
    manually delete all the files too. The instructions to do it this way came
    from Microsoft, would you believe. They ought to be doing time for fraud and
    selling defective merchandise. I was really reluctant to move to Vista, and
    I hate it, but had no choice, that's how my new PC came.
    I guess I will have to manually uninstall Adobe Reader, fixing the registry
    as I go; then I will install Acrobat 8.0. I have had no trouble with this
    release on my other PC.
    As far as who is responsible, it is a lack of cooperation between software
    companies and the constant "rush" everything to market before "real" user
    level testing is complete.
    Best regards,
    Peter.

  • Cannot uninstall Exchange 2013 from Server with REFS file system

    EX2013 SP1 installed fine on the 2012 R2 server with REFS, but now I need to remove it and reinstall. When I go to uninstall it, I get an error that "the specified installation directory must be located on a NTFS file system". I have tried
    via control panel and command line.
    I could avoid the uninstall if I could replace the Enterprise Edition license key with a standard key. the "Change License Key" option only allows you to go from standard to enterprise.
    Any advice on either issues? (uninstall from REFS or change enterprise key to standard key)
    According to the below TechNet article REFS is supported for an install, but maybe not an uninstall

    Hi,
    1. I suggest romving previous Exchange server via ADSIEdit.
    NOTE: It is better to try the steps with the assistance of a MS support. Do remember to backup the AD.
    2. Then reformat the file system to NTFS.
    3. Last, reinstall the new standard Exchange version.
    Thanks

  • Cannot run reader in protected mode with MS Office 2010

    I just set up 6 identical Dell Optiplex XE machines with Office Home and Business 2010 pre-loaded.  Reader 10.1.1 will run in protected mode if it is installed before I go through the Office 2010 activation/installation procedure.  On the 2 machines where Office was set up before installing Adobe reader, protected mode will not work.  If protected mode is not enabled, I cannot go into preferences - general and turn the protected mode log to try to debug this problem.  For now I an running those two machines with protected mode off.  Has anyone else seen this?

    You should always use official documentation for support details but I am pretty sure Windows 7 support was not available for the EAS client until 11.1.1.3.

  • Cannot uninstall iTunes 8. How can I do it manually?

    Hi folks,
    I installed iTunes8 and I want to uninstall it.
    When I use the the uninstall option of Windows Vista I receive an error message that a key cannot be accessed (odd, I am admin).
    I cannot install any other iTunes (7 or 8) because "A newer Version is already installed".
    Now I like to uninstall it manually. I already removed all iTunes folder and registries from my computer, but the problems remain. Still I receive the error messages posted above. Is there anything else I should try? Is there some kind of override mode?
    The OS is Windows Vista 64.

    It depends on which iMac you have. If it is a PPC (G4 or G5) iMac you cannpt upgrade beyond Leopard 10.5.8, and you cannot synch with an iPhone 5.
    If it an Intel iMac you need to first purchase Snow Leopard 10.6 and update iTunes:
    Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
    (NB: PowerPC applications can still be run in Snow Leopard using Rosetta, but they will not work in later versions of OS X.)
    The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
    Check via Software Update whether any further updates are required, particularly to iTunes.
    You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
    You can now upgrade to Mavericks OS 10.9 for free IF you have one of the following Macs, with not less than 2GB of RAM, and at least 8GB of available space on your hard drive:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
    MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
    MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
    Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
    Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    If you cannot run Mavericks you can purchase the code to use to download Lion from the App Store (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard):
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion

  • Problem with working with add/remove instance incorporating checkbox

    I have come into a problem I have been trying to figure out for the past week. I had googled for some guidance yet I found nothing useful.
    Currently, I have a table which has an addinstance button and removeinstance button. The script for these work.
    What I am looking to do is the row starts off being in readOnly format and when I select a checkbox, one of the cell will become open ( I have a table with 12 cell in a row and about 6-7 checkboxes which will open certain cells). However, when I add an instance and one of the checkboxes is checked…the next row is still readOnly. How do I target those certain cells? if I have a checkbox checked and I add a new row..those certain fields will be open for all the cell in that column.
    If anyone could assist me, that would be great.

    This should get you going I think.
    I just worked with the "Additional Lines" checkbox and the "Add" checkbox in the table, you'll need to copy and adjust the scripts for the other objects.
    Script is on the Change event for "Additional Lines". This script will loop through the rows and toggle access on all of the matching fields, in this case the "addcb" field.  Don't know if that's what you need or not, but I did it in case someone has already added some rows and then decides to click the "Additional Lines" checkbox:
    if (this.rawValue == 1)
        var vFields = xfa.resolveNodes("form1.Subform4.Table1.Row1[*].addcb");
        for (var i=0; i <= vFields.length-1; i++)
            vFields.item(i).access = "open";
    else
        var vFields = xfa.resolveNodes("form1.Subform4.Table1.Row1[*].addcb");
        for (var i=0; i <= vFields.length-1; i++)
            vFields.item(i).access = "readOnly";
    Script on the Initialize event of the "addcb" field. This script checks the "Additional Lines" checkbox to see what access the field should have when it is created:
    if (Subform1.additionallines.rawValue == 1)
        this.access = "open";
    else
        this.access = "readOnly";
    Hope that helps!

    I also get the "report builder click-once application does not exist on the server" - to which I had applied the registry key

    Yes, I know this is an old post, but I’m trying to clean them up. Did you solve this problem, if so what was the solution?
    This problem was solved in SP1 if you are still having this problem after applying SP1, then you need to contact CSS directly for support, they will work with you to solve this problem.

  • Cannot uninstall Adobe Photoshop Starter Edition

    I cannot uninstall because it isnt present in Add/Remover programs and I don't know whether it's safe to delete the entire Photoshop Album Starter Edition folder or not. Can someone help me out and tell me a safe way?
    Thanks,

    Hi Terry,
    If you reinstall the application, you will see it in the add/remove
    programs and can then uninstall it properly. This will reduce any
    problems that might be associated with just deleting the folders.

  • Cannot open Reader program, no error messages (Windows XP, SP3)

    Hello all! I am hoping someone can provide a solution to my frustration....
    Earlier this summer I was having some computer trouble. The computer was under warranty - HP came out and changed the memory and system board.
    I have not been having any issues except for ONE thing - I cannot open Adobe Reader to view PDF files. Any PDF files on my system show the Adobe icon, but when clicking on a PDF file or the application itself, nothing happens. The hourly glass shows up briefly and then goes away, but otherwise, nothing.
    Temporarily, I got by using another PDF reader. Unfortunately, some of our business systems only work with Adobe, so getting Adobe to work is now critical.
    What I have tried (with no luck):
    1) Uninstalled Reader, did a system search to remove all Reader files, re-installed latest version
    2) Searched the Adobe community and other internet sites for help - tried a Microsoft fix, Adobe cleaner program, went into the Program Files menu to accept the user agreement, etc.
    3) Installed earlier verions (9.5, and then 7.0)
    Any other ideas? I called back HP, and they tried to be helpful but said it was a software issues since all other programs were running successfully. They suggested I re-install the operating system!
    Thank you for your help.

    I would recommend adding 4 GB more, you need at least 4GB-6GB for R12 only (not including the OS).

    My suggestion would to go on-line and get DriverCleanerPro and it wil help you rid yourself of unwanted drivers... apparently it is one of the only things that will rid you of some of that stuff but if the other suggestion worked then good I might write it down or print it for myself :smileyvery-happy:?
