Cannot uninstall Reader 9
I am one of the few people in my company with an Acrobat Professional for Windows license. I need this license to do my job as a tech writer. I am lucky to have this license. We have a freeze on software purchases and upgrades. The only reason I have this license is because the previous user got laid off.
Meanwhile, our desktop support group periodically runs scripts that push various updates, including Reader 9, upon connecting to the network. This hoses up my Acrobat Professional 8 installation every bloody time. I have tried and tried, but I cannot convince these people to change their scripts to check for other versions of Acrobat.
I am unable to completely uninstall Reader 9. It reappears in the Add or Remove Programs dialog box after I reboot.
I need a procedure to manually remove Reader 9 from Windows XP.
what is Microsoft Installer Cleanup Tool. somehow i got reader 9.1.1 and keep getting hit with need to update to 9.1.2. 9.1.2 will down load but it will not install..
when i go to add/remove and try to remove 9.1.1, i get error saying i do not have a patch to remove and i can not get it to uninstall. my os is xp sp3.

Cannot uninstall reader 8.1.4 with add/remove or manually
I cannot uninstall using add/remove or with the manual instructions in KB400769. Add/remove gives me a 1402 error and the key has "unknown" in it. KB400769 fails when removing registered files acdoiehelper.dll, acropdf.dll, and pdfshell.dll with "access denied". Windows install clean up doesn't seem to have any effect except to remove it from the add/remove list. Updates to 8.1.4 don't work (1402 again) nor does trying to download 9 (1402). How in the world do I get rid of it so I can install later versions of reader?
Have you looked in the registry to see if there are still entries in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Java?
You should erase all files in the various JavaHome directories that are listed in the registry. You can also erase the registry entries, but of course, be careful because damaging the registry can kill Windows.
Also, java.exe and javaw.exe are frequently stored in the "Windows" system directory. You should delete these files as well. -
Cannot uninstall reader 9.3.2 or install update
The latest update will not install. When I try to uninstall Acrobat Reader I get this message: The installation source for this product is not available... Windows Installer CleanUp Utility is no longer available. How do I uninstall Reader? I an running Windows XP SP3

I had a similar issue when I wanted to uninstall Microsoft Office 2010,
another Bill Gate's abortion. It took about a week of copying and deleting
over a hundred Registry entries before I could make it go away. The I had to
manually delete all the files too. The instructions to do it this way came
from Microsoft, would you believe. They ought to be doing time for fraud and
selling defective merchandise. I was really reluctant to move to Vista, and
I hate it, but had no choice, that's how my new PC came.
I guess I will have to manually uninstall Adobe Reader, fixing the registry
as I go; then I will install Acrobat 8.0. I have had no trouble with this
release on my other PC.
As far as who is responsible, it is a lack of cooperation between software
companies and the constant "rush" everything to market before "real" user
level testing is complete.

Windows 7 crash after attempt to download Reader XI; cannot uninstall or reinstall Reader now

I am new on this forum.
I attempted to download Reader XI but my laptop (Windows 7) crashed at next reboot (blue screen before logon). Got Windows working again but now cannot uninstall Reader ("path cannot be found"). Attempted to install Reader X again but system said it was already installed.

I receive the message: The file "iTunes library.itl"cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes. I do not know exactly what this means. I have Windows 7 on my computer and was able access itunes until just recently. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes multiple times and that does not work. Sometimes I can get in when immediately after installing, but then if I close it, i cannot get back in. Now, i can't get in at all.
That message is usually a sign that you tried to roll back to an earlier build of iTunes, but occasionally I've seen it connected to a new upgrade. This technique should fix things.

Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

On my old iTunes sofwear iTune store would not open. I uninstalled iTunes and downloaded the new updates and installed it. Now I get a message that said " The file iTunes Libary.itl" cannot be read becouse it was created by a newer version of iTunes.I did everything it said to do inarticle HT1923 Removing and reinstalling iTunes, Quick Time, and other sofware components for Windows Vista or Windows 7. Now what?
Unless you've recently attempted to downgrade iTunes this is probably a sign of a corrupt library file. See Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash.

I updated my itunes to 11 and found out my phone and ipod were not compatible. I uninstalled it and reinstalled 10.7 but now I get an error message when I try to open itunes saying "the file cannot be read because it was created by a newer verison" What do I do?
Thank you for clarify I'm supposed to read the ENTIRE article. I thought I was just supposed to read the title and magically everything will fix itself. And for the record my conclusions are not illogical, the iOS7 thing is on the website in small font (which I got by reading the ENTIRE thing) and you should really find a new hobby because your socialization skills need some help! I Was trying to update to the latest version; i uninstall to download new version because it wasn't letting me update. I had to uninstall iTunes because when I connected my ipod and was in that file and clicked on music to add songs that file was empty. Once I downloaded iTunes again a box appeared that said The file iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes..............so then I unistalled iTunes and downloaded again 4 different times and got the same message each time. I am using a laptop Windows Vista 64 bit system...please help
I don't know how you received an upgrade for iTunes. You make it sound like it was sent to you. At most your computer will tell you of a new version and you tell it to download it and install it. However, a computer will not do this for a version which is incompatible. iTunes 10.7 came out a few weeks ago but your computer would not notify you and even if it did, 10.7 would refuse to install on your computer. So this part isn't making a lot of sense.
Two ways to get the 'newer version' message. One is to open your library on a computer running a newer version, and then try to open it with an older version. Usually happens when the library is on an external and used with multiple computers. The second way is if you have multiple versions of itunes installed on your computer.
The newest (and likely the last) iTunes for OSX 10.5.8 is iTunes 10.6.3 which has been out for quite a while.

Here's the window message I get when I try to open Reader 8.0, "Problem with Shortcut" Then in the window, "This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, if not contact..."
I get the same message when I try to uninstall through Add or Remove Programs in XP Pro.
When I try to download it over the existing install I get a message telling me "Adobe Reader 8.1.2", "Error 1714. The older version of 8.1.2 cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group."

I have just gone through the same problem of uninstalling reader in order to re-install it. The MS Windows Installer Cleanup Utility worked perfectly. Other attempts manually removing as suggested in Adobe's kb400769 had already failed.

I uninstalled and deleted ver 11, installed ver 10.7 because ver11 won't work on my XPsp3 machine with my vinyl conversion software to mp3, but upon launch i get :"itunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created with a newer version of itunes'.

Regarding error 1606 - have a look at this article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/886549/.
If you still cannot uninstall Adobe Reader, use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to remove it. (But I recently heard of problems when using the cleanup tool if Office 2007 is installed.)
After removing Adobe Reader, download http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.3/enu/AdbeRdr930_en_US.msi, save it to disk, then close all browser windows and run the downloaded installer. -

I don't know why this error occurs, unless you have attempted to downgrade iTunes.
