Cannot uninstall Yahoo toolbar from Firefox

I'm reposting part of another thread that was closed because no one is actually listening to the people that are posting the problem.
Quote:
I had the same problem, after I installed Yahoo Messenger. I asked not to install the toolbar, but it was installed. Then I uninstalled it, I disabled it from addons, yet, the toolbar was there no matter what I did. I uninstalled Firefox, reinstalled, with the download from mozilla, the toolbar was still there. I did all that one has to do in order to uninstall a piece of software, without being "the tech guy". I do not have the same problem in Chrome or Internet Explorer. It was uninstalled from all other browsers when I removed the program from control panel. I can't see what I can do to get rid of it. I choose to just hide it for now, but it bugs me that I have a piece of software that behaves like a virus, doing stuff I don't want it to do. And for the record, I am not confused about the search for yahoo and toolbar for yahooo. Right clicking on the interface, allowed me to check or uncheck exactly that "yahoo toolbar".
/quote
This is exactly my problem as well.
In the other thread several people said 'disable it in your add-ons' Well as the poster above mentioned and I can confirm **it is not in the add-ons area**
Others said 'use the add/remove function in the control panel' and as the poster above mentioned and once again I can confirm **I did this and it no longer shows up under add/remove but the toolbar is still annoyingly there**
Yet others said 'you must have downloaded a special yahoo version of Firefox' No, we (or at least I) didn't. The toolbar was installed when I installed Yahoo messenger
-I can't believe a 'clean install' of Firefox is the answer to this problem--if so this is just ridiculous.
If there is no actual answer, I can accept that but I am frustrated that people are posting responses that very clearly are not the right answers because the people posting the problems were very clear about the issues.
Thanks for reading, please assist if you can.

that i do not know as i do not know about netopia routers specifically - could be ip address issue, how the address is used, given, cached, you would have to look at the manual, must admit am grasping at straws here , as your post clearly states everything works fine when in other locations...
    i would suggest the following:
    1) power on and off netopia, see if that helps
    2) if you uncheck authentication does that help?
    3) check keychain access and see if for some reason you have more than one password for your account there, maybe one that is used for at home and one outside of home? which i doubt, but still worth checking.
    4) sounds stupid, but try another wireless router at home - at least it will confirm the problem comes from your current router.
    5) go to mail>window>connection doctor, see what error message you get
    6) go to system preferences>network, click on "assist me" and then "diagnostics" see if you can pick up some info from that.
finally post on "use Mac OS X v20.5 Leopard" pages and in the "getting online and networking" Leopard pages where there may be other users that have encountered issues with netopia in a similar fashion.
not much specific help i am afraid.

  • I really would like to know how to totally remove Yahoo toolbar from my Firefox browser as well as my computer. I don't like those special toolbars at all.

I really would like to know how to totally remove Yahoo toolbar from my Firefox browser as well as my computer. I don't like special toolbars at all. I find it irritating that you included one in the newest version of your browser. In the future I would hope you would leave this or any other out. Firefox used to be my favorite browser to use, now I am not going to want to use it because of the extra toolbar. Please tell me there is a way to remove this, not just hide it.

You can't move the Yahoo Toolbar from IE to Firefox, they are totally different "behind the scenes". However you can install it, [http://us.toolbar.yahoo.com/ http://us.toolbar.yahoo.com/] and I believe if you log in with your Yahoo account it will sync your data.

  • How do I bring my already installed Yahoo Toolbar from my IE Browser to my current FireFox browser?

Prior to my Firefox browser, I was using IE8 for quite some time. I have a toolbar, for Yahoo, installed into my system already from my initial homepage setup in IE. I now use Yahoo as one of my homepages in Firefox and would like to have the Yahoo toolbar available when I log in to my browser. I know how to import my bookmarks/favorites from other browsers, I did this already. Can I move the Yahoo toolbar that's been customized my way, from my old IE8 browser to my new FF browser? I don't want to re-install it, again, if I don't have to. All of my preferred links/buttons are set up in it; CNN News, You Tube, etc.

  • Cannot save sites to yahoo toolbar for firefox

After getting a message that Firefox was slow to load, I followed remedy as suggested. All the sites saved to "Yahoo Toolbar for Firefox" disappeared, and I am unable to re install them. I have updated Firefox and Toolbar but nothing has resolved this problem. Hope you can help

    What "remedy" was that?
Did the "remedy" leave an Old Firefox Data folder on the Desktop?
If so, see this- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/refresh-firefox-reset-add-ons-and-settings - see the blue box at the bottom of that KB article.
    Overall, I have no idea how that Yahoo Toolbar works or where it saves bookmarks to - inside that Firefox extension or online. Try Yahoo Help for support for their Toolbar.;

  • Removing Yahoo Toolbar in Firefox 12

I cannot get rid of the Yahoo Toolbar in Firefox 12. It does not show up under extensions or add-ons.
I have eliminated all Yahoo programs (Toolbar, IM, and some updating program) in the control panel Add/Remove Programs.
I have restarted the Firefox in safe mode. There are still no Yahoo Add-ons or Extensions that show up.
I then went Help | Troubleshooting Information | Show Folder
    I clicked on Show Folder.
There's a folder called "Yahoo! Inc". When I open Yahoo Inc., there's another folder called ytoolbar. I have deleted Yahoo! Inc both when Firefox was open and when it was closed. As soon as I restart Firefox, the Yahoo Inc. folder is recreated.
I am unable to remove the Yahoo Inc. folder permanently.
    This is one invasive program.
How do I get rid of it?

I had problems following the discussion above. I managed to find the hidden directory containing all the Yahoo Toolbar files from this article: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
    The directory is %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile folder>\extensions\<Yahoo Toolbar directory>
    For example, mine was C:\Users\Chris Hollis\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\uh07uw1k.default\extensions\{635abd67-4fe9-1b23-4f01-e679fa7484c1}
Deleting this directory did get rid of the Yahoo Toolbar for me.

  • Yahoo toolbar and Firefox

Every time Firefox is updated the Yahoo toolbar becomes incompatible.
This even happens from version 7 to 7.0.1, let alone a major Firefox update from version 6 to 7.
New versions of Firefox are usually in beta for some time, so presumably Yahoo could anticipate what was needed to be changed rather than us having to wait for a compatible version of the toolbar to be released.

thats my Yahoo toolbar version via FF's add-on's....
Have you tried uninstalling the toolbar from within Control Panel then reinstalling it from here... http://uk.toolbar.yahoo.com/

  • How do I remove the WiseConvert B Community toolbar from Firefox?

How do I remove the WiseConvert B Community toolbar from Firefox? It has suddenly appeared and even though I open FireFox > View>Toolbars> deselect Wise Convert etc. it reappears when I reopen FireFox. Can't find anything in any of my files about it.

If you select Add-ons from the Tool menu, do you see this "WiseConvert" thing as a plugin or extension? If so, you can just disable it from there...

  • How do you uninstall TerraGo Toolbar from Acrobat X?

I am trying to uninstall TerraGo Toolbar from Acrobat X. When I try to uninstall it in Control Panel/Programs and Features (Windows 7), I get the message "Error opening installation log file. Verify that the specified log file location exists and is writable."  Is there anyway to uninstall or disable TerraGo Toolbar without uninstalling and reinstalling Acrobat X.

    Hi Bruce,
    Solution 1)
If you attempt to uninstall TerraGo Toolbar while the Adobe application is running, TerraGo will abort the uninstall process and your operating system will present an error message. Depending upon your operating system, the message presented may be unnecessarily severe. Close the Adobe application and re-start the uninstall process.
    Solution 2)
If you attempt to uninstall TerraGo and encounter the Windows-specific error message, “Error opening installation log file. Verify that the specified location exists and is writable”, follow the instructions posted at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2564571 to resolve the issue.
Let me know if the issue persist.
    Regards,
    Aadesh

  • Cannot Uninstall Creative MediaSource from System (Audigy 2 card from De

Cannot uninstall MediaSource software from XP system, get message (in control panel>add/remove programs): "An Installation Support File Could Not Be Installed. The system cannot find the file specified." Have tried re-installing the software, but to no avail.
Also, not sure if this is worth mentioning, but the Audigy 2 card (and software) that I have came with my Dell system.
    phb

I am getting the exact same error when I try to remove Creative MediaSource and Creative System Information from XP Add/Remove Programs ...
I am using an Audigy 2 ZS (retail) and have installed the updated drivers, yet I get the message that I cannot uninstall prior versions because of 'missing files'.
Updating the drivers and software SHOULD remove any prior installations. However, as a programmer, I understand how difficult it is to plan for every contingency.
It would be nice to be able to totally remove all vestiges of the software and driver before installing new drivers.
Redundant out-of-date software leads to more memory leaks than poor programming.

  • HELP! How to remove Yahoo search from firefox 36.0.1? HELP!

I guess I made a big mistake upgrading to FireFox 36.0.1! Nothing but grief since trying to remove the Yahoo search from this version.
Didn't appreciate this version removing my default Home page tabs to use on startup. Looks like they are gone forever - not happy!
I have tried many if not all forms of advice to remove this yahoo search from my home page to no avail. I even uninstalled it and made sure I got a non Yahoo version from the Mozilla site. Still no help.
    1) I have tried changing keyword.URL via about:config - no help
    2) I have tried changing the Search - Change Search Settings - no help
    3) I tried bringing up a single tab with Google and using General options to Use Current Page - no help
    4) I tried the same using many other tabs without Google - no help
    5) I have removed Yahoo and others from the Search options - no help
    6) Uninstalled and reinstalled a "CLEAN" version from Mozilla site - no help
    7) Retried 1 thru 5 above again - no help
    8) Checked the Shortcut Target in Mozilla FireFox Properties - no help
Get the idea? No matter what, Yahoo comes back every time I open FireFox. Which means I cannot use a set of tabs as my default any more. WHY????
Looks like it may be time to severe my long time use of this browser since the beginning with NetScape in the earliest of days with PC's. Too Bad.

This worked. The problem is the user.js file was changed. See below:
    User.js file overriding preferences
If you don't have any of the above programs installed, or if you followed the suggestions and single preferences still aren't being saved, you may have to edit Firefox's configuration files yourself. Don't panic, it's pretty easy. Here's how to do it.
    Open your profile folder:
Click the menu button New Fx Menu , click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. The Troubleshooting Information tab will open.
Under the Application Basics section, click on Show Folder. A window with your profile files will open.
Note: If you are unable to open or use Firefox, follow the instructions in Finding your profile without opening Firefox.
Click the menu button New Fx Menu and then click Exit Close 29
Open the file user.js with a text editor (like Notepad).
If there is no user.js file, these steps won't help you.
Remove the lines for the options you want to be able to change. You can delete all the lines if you want to be able to change everything.
Save the file and close the text editor.
You should now be able to change your Firefox settings.

  • How to remove My Start Toolbar From, Firefox. I managed it on IE8 but not Firefox

Since installing Incredimail I have had the My Start Toolbar in both IE8 & Firefox4, I removed it from IE using Add/Remove programmes but it has not gone from Firefox 4 Any idears,??

After much research and not finding an answer that worked. I just went to Tools and under Options and the General Tab where it says Home Page I just changed it to Google and it worked like a charm. I also had uninstalled it from the control panel but it kept showing up on Firefox. So I just did the above and it worked.
