Cannot unlock my Admin account, updaters fail, more...
After installing SL, I can no longer unlock my Admin account. When I click the lock to make changes, it says "Authenticating..." for a second, then stays locked. When trying to update applications (I've tried several), the "Install" button dims for a moment (like it's starting), then nothing happens. In System Prefs, when I click on Security, it says "Loading Security..." and nothing happens. I went to Keychain Access, can't unlock System keychain either. Ran Keychain First Aid, no problems reported. I re-installed SN, nothing changed. Can anyone give me some suggestions?

that's not a problem. you can change finder preferences->general to show internal hard drives on the desktop.
When I log out and come back in with my original User name, everything is still locked out just like before.
that's expected too. but you didn't follow all my instructions. log in as root again, go to system preferences->accounts and create a NEW admin user. then log out from root and log in as the new user you just created. do you have the same authentication problem when logged in as the new user?

No Admin account after failed Migration
Hi, I have been having many problems with the new hard drive I just got to replace a failed drive.
The first thing I did was attempt to restore from a backup with 10.6, while booted into 10.4. That gave me the gray screen of death.
Reinstalled 10.5 and attempted to restore the backup using Migration Assistant, but the harddrive with the backup didn't mount and wasn't recognized by the computer.
Then I reinstalled 10.6, and after several failed attempts, finally got the computer to recognize my backup harddrive. I tried to use migration assistant from a Guest account so I could replace the Admin account on the computer with the Admin account from the backup.
When I restarted the computer after the Migration (which looked like it had gone well), there was no Admin account, only Guest. and on top of that, it's requiring a password to login to the Guest account, but I can't figure out what the password would be, it shakes no on every attempt.
I haven't been able to check if my files are there or not, because I can't login. I did verify disk permissions, and a lot of stuff was wrong, so I repaired but still could not log in.
I'm assuming I'll have to start from scratch with a new install of the OS and then run Migration Assistant again, this time without attempting to replace the new account with the backup account. Any insights as to how I can prevent this from happening again or how I can fix it?Thank you! Got everything back to normal... only weird thing was my harddrive didn't have room for everything that was on there before from the back up. Easy to fix, though.

I dropped a user account, recreated it, and impdp data into. Howver I cant unlock the account logged in as sys.

Admin Account Locked of ORM WebUI/ORM Console
Hi All,
I have ORM 10.1.4.1 on Weblogic installed successfully (Oracle 10g database) however I am not able to login into webui and ORM Console using the credentials(admin/abcd1234) I provided while installation. I tried logging few times and restarted the server. so, when I am trying again I am getting message while logging in webui and ormconsole
Maximum number of attempts exceeded
So, does anyone know how to unlock the user account. if yes, then kindly help.

Not waking up from sleep-flashes lighted keyboard and screen, and I cannot unlock the padlocks in the system to change settings, look at keychain, etc.

I can't reinstall ML, nor can I create another user (unless I use Terminal, and I'm a novice at best with Terminal).

You contacted us as you were unable to install e-learning suite. We suggest you to create a new Admin account on your computer and try installing creative cloud desktop from there. Once you are able to install and launch on new admin account you will be able to access it from your normal admin account as well. Refer this link to create new admin account

Thank you for your reply. However, YOUR solution did not work.
I created a completely new admin account. Everything was fresh -- totally virgin. And, exactly the same occurred. The installer program completed about 50% of its run,and then froze up. It failed to initialize, and I was referred to an onsite help page that has been discontinued ... that is no longer supported.
What can I do?
I have purchased AN EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE DVD from Adobe, had it sent to me in Thailand, and it will not install in my computer.
Please provide me with the technical support that I need.

Before I have to use office 2010 proplus it not have problem for open ms office on user account after i have to upgrad to ms office 2013 version(15.0.4551.1512) i got problem cannot open ms office 2013 on user account but can open ms office 2013 on admin
account. I try to grant user account permision full control on C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15 but not working. Micorsoft support pro plus has remote to my pc and told me to change registry by add permision full control user account on hkey_current-User\software
then restart but not work. I have to uninstall and reinstall MS Office 2013 or repair it not working to open user account. MS Support told me to try download Office 2013 trial version to install it working to open on user account but Trail version is

I had to post this on Microsoft Community . After MS Support ask my pc join network or not i told my pc join network . He told me to post this forum.
I give you more information to try something.
I have to created new account for local computer and add new account to users group after that i try to log on local pc by use new account and try to open ms office excel , word etc.. It can open.
I have to log on to domain by account user on domain it cannot open MS office but i have to add this account user to administrators groups. It can open ms office. If i change that account to users group and try to open ms office . It cannot open and
not have pop up and error.

Despite beeing logged into administrator account I can't unlock the lock when I go to System Preferences>Accounts , Time Machine, etc. Problem started since I lost my password. I managed to login into my account by logging as a guest and changing password for my own account (strange, but in fact it is possible to do that). I tried many solutions, but none worked (e.g. I set new account with administrator rights, but that one also is not allowed to unlock the lock).

Why do you think should I take my Mac to Apple Store? Does it seems to you as a hardware problem? Or do they have some tricky ways to undo everything?
Acctually I found kind of a tricky way on a web, but I follow its steps as a monkey so again with no succes. These are unix commands to abstract for me. Do you understand the logic? Do you think it might help with my problem?
Or maybe I can login as root (somehow) and that could let me change password of my account?
I understand that all the usual methods have failed for you, even though they work everytime for me, that being said there are only 2 reasons for this, there is something else wrong with your Mac or you are not able to type the commands as needed (I am not choosing which, just stating the obvious).
Either way you now need hands on help, I do not advise tampering with the machine as the Root User, mistakes in Root mode will certainly make things worse. -
FileVault 2 failure - more than one admin account
New rMBP 15" with 10.8.2, used Migration Assistant from a 10.6.8 boot. Very happy with it, and have been using it for a few days.
Decided to enable filevault 2 to encrypt my boot drive. I enabled it, rebooted, and then went back to the Security & Privacy system preferences to check the progress, which was stuck with an intdeterminate progress bar. Waited 30 minutes, no change. Hmmm.
Console.log showed continual error message, such as :"11/9/12 6:56:40.155 PM System Preferences[638]: *** -[DMManager conversionProgressForLogicalVolumeDisk:] returned an error; error: -69808 (-[SecurityFDEController _checkFDEEncryptionStatusTimer:])"
Turns out, I had two admin accounts on this computer, and I had only authorized one of them to unlock the filevault encryption.
I clicked the button to authorize the 2nd account, and after that the encryption process started working.
Not very user friendly...posting this in case it helps others...Welcome to the discussions. If iWeb's menus are greyed out, the following trick has worked for some:
In the user account which does not let you start a new page, save, etc. — Quit iWeb. Start iPhoto. Select a couple of photos, click on the iWeb icon at lower right and choose Photo Page. iWeb will open up and invite you to choose a template for your new Photos page. Choose any template so that the page is created and then delete that newly created page.
...Now perhaps things are no longer greyed out in iWeb. -
Cannot ping ibook with multiple admin accounts
i am trying to set up remote control across a LAN, and have had success with two iMac G5's controlled from my dual G5. the problem is that i can't connect to an iBook with exactly the same settings and firewall config.
in trying to troubleshoot, i have noticed that i can't ping the iBook, and the only thing i can think of that is different is that the iBook has two user accounts, both of which have admin privileges. could this be causing the problem?
if not, what else could i try? any suggestions, please?I doubt very much that the problem is caused by having two user accounts with administrator privileges. I have several systems with multiple admin accounts and have never had them cause a problem with the network.
Since you can't even ping the iBook, that would seem to make it a problem with the OS or the network, not with Apple Remote Desktop, so you might have more luck getting suggestions if you ask in the networking forum in the appropriate Mac OS X area.

Failed on Java CI add-in installation with Java Admin Account Create
I've installed an ABAP stack and it works smoothly. Java Central Instance Service(add-in) and Java Database Instance(add-in) are both installed successfully. When I install Java Central Instance(Add-in), I get an error when system asks me to input passwords of Java admin accounts. I use same password for all sap account, eg. james123, but in this step, I input same password, the screen does not change to the next.

I still got the problem.
Here is some more details
1. "Central Instance Java Add-in" installation.
2. The step is "ABAP UME" (Enter the J2EE engine user passwords). System ask user to enter password of administrator user, password of communication user, and password for SDM.
I enter a password like james123, it does not go to next screen. then I try to input other passwords, it does not go to next screen either. Does password cause the problem? What's the rule of password? And what's the return code 2 in below log file?

IMac installation.....cannot use Flash in Admin account.
I am the only user of my iMac. My CS4 is installed in the applications folder. I cannot see or edit text in Flash files in my Admin account. I discovered that if created a second user account, I could use Flash properly there......but that's nuts because none of what I need is in that account.
Any ideas as to how to fix this would be appreciated.
My CS4 is an upgrade from Studio MX2004.

Cannot switch admin account to standard
I've managed to convert my admin account to a standard account on my MacBook Pro, however, on my iMac this didn't work. Both systems were upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite, the iMac from ML to Mavericks.
I cannot disable the Allow user to administer this computer item on my iMac -- that is, I did disable it, I was requested to reboot after that, but now the box is still ticked but I cannot untick it (from the Admin account that I've created). So I'm still working with admin rights .In a way it makes sense that the original Admin Account can;t be changed. If a user changed that account to non-admin and that was the only admin account it would be a mess to undo it. I agree that there should be some indication of this and even the ability to over rider it in a case like yours.
As there isn't the next best thing will be for you to duplicate the current admin account as a new user account and then use that duplicated account.

I am running 10.6. but recently reinstalled it as time machne made problems.
Since then I can't unlock the lock on my admin account, and can't update or install any apps at all, including the software updater for 10.6.1. It just freezes with no Admin Password box.
I can't create a new account.
I am not a computer genie, please help with easy intuctions...
ThanksDisconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
Click Repair Disk.
Restart your computer when done.

Cannot unlock to make admin changes
Ever since installing Lion, my MBP has been very slow and I cannot make any admin changes. In any event where admin privileges are needed, I hit the padlock on the bottom left of the window. It asks for my password. I enter it and it accepts, but the padlock is still locked. . . My username is listed as "Admin" in the users list. I can't add another user because I cant unlock that privilege. I've verified and repaired disk permissions and verified disk with no errors. The installation of Lion was on a clean Hard drive, not an upgrade. Considering going back to SL at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!Back up all data, then boot from your recovery partition (command-R at startup) and reinstall the Mac OS. You don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac didn’t ship with Lion, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.
