cannot unlock security preference.password does not work.my grandson did something ?
Unfortunately, you'll need to get the password from your grandson, and if he doesn't know it, then you'll have to reset it. Apple's procedure for doing so is at this link. You'll probably need to follow the instructions under the "Resetting the original administrator account password" section.

If so, that will encrypt your hard drive so that nobody can access the data without knowing (or being able to guess) your login password. This is the only thing that will prevent someone with physical access to your computer from being able to hack your system or access your data.
However, if your computer has already been hacked somehow, this won't fix anything. What makes you believe your computer has been hacked? It's extremely unlikely that it actually has, unless someone untrustworthy has had physical access to your computer or you have installed some kind of malware. If you can describe the symptoms you're seeing, we can give you more accurate instructions for helping with your issue. -
How to force unlock Security & Privacy Preferences
Have no password on my Mac (only temp) but cannot unlock Security and Privacy Preferences. Need to turn off firewall to load App.

My Mac HD says that I have Quicktime Software, all that I find in my applications is Quicktime Player. And I cannot unlock Quicktime Pro in this program through its preferences.. help?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.

Not waking up from sleep-flashes lighted keyboard and screen, and I cannot unlock the padlocks in the system to change settings, look at keychain, etc.

Can't install a .mpkg file - a Security Preferences issue?
I'm having the issue installiung a .mpkg file - it's an App from Pantone.
The message says "Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac Store and identified developers"
I went into the "get info" and made sure that "Installer" was selected under "Open With:" but that didn't fix it.Hello, you must be on 10.8!???
By default Apple has changed the security settings to only allow installation of apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers. To change this permanently or temporarily go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy. On the General Tab click the little lock in the lower left corner to unlock the general preference pane.

But, did you migrate an account into this new, "clean" installation?
If so, then the task becomes searching for and finding whatever file (cache, plist, etc.) is causing the problem.
If not, something else is going on. It is not outside the realm of possibilities that you received a bad copy of the installer, one with an error so small that only certain things were affected. I would think it rare, since most "bad" installation disks either won't boot, or won't complete an installation when booted. I think a more likely possibility is a bad block on the internal hard drive. You erased, but did you "zero?" Snow Leopard is using some pretty hefty file system "mojo" to pull off the file compression that it implements, and I see potential here for exposure of a weak block on the drive. This would give you bad installation, if so.
I will say it again: There are no egregious bugs in Snow Leopard. There's a modifying adjective in that sentence: "egregious." I would consider the behavior you are seeing to be egregious, but not a bug. It is a problem. And problems can and should be solved. By us, if we're clever. What we cannot solve are issues caused by bugs. In any case, it is important to distinguish between the two classes, and identify where a given issue belongs.
Hey, I'm here to help you, and everyone else with problems. To that end, one thing that I attempt to do is discourage goose chasing. Snow Leopard works great for me, and I (usually) see no reason why it cannot work great for anyone else. When I do see that it isn't, I want to correct that.

Unlocking secure PDFs on the Microsoft surface RT
I recently bought a Windows Surface RT and the adobe application from the market place does not let me unlock secure PDF. I am currently attending the University of Phoenix and all of our text books are Apollo E-Books that are secured by protectedpdf password management. I was wondering if there will be patches for the windows RT platform that will fix this issue? If these patches are expected to occur, in what time frame wold I be looking at?
If you had an Intel-based desktop machine, laptop, or tablet, you could install Adobe Reader XI (desktop app with the traditional Windows UI) and open the DRM-protected PDF documents from University of Phoenix.

Unfortunately, Adobe Reader XI does not run on Microsoft Surface with Windows RT. (More Intel-based tablets from Microsoft, Samsung, HP, Dell, etc. running Windows 8 will be released this year.) Currently, Adobe Reader for mobile devices (iOS, Android, and Windows tablets) cannot open the DRM-protected PDF documents from University of Phoenix using the third-party technology called Vitrium's Protectedpdf due to the lack of full JavaScript support. -
I cannot unlock the lock on administrator account
Despite beeing logged into administrator account I can't unlock the lock when I go to System Preferences>Accounts , Time Machine, etc. Problem started since I lost my password. I managed to login into my account by logging as a guest and changing password for my own account (strange, but in fact it is possible to do that). I tried many solutions, but none worked (e.g. I set new account with administrator rights, but that one also is not allowed to unlock the lock).

Acctually I found kind of a tricky way on a web, but I follow its steps as a monkey so again with no succes. These are unix commands to abstract for me. Do you understand the logic? Do you think it might help with my problem?
Or maybe I can login as root (somehow) and that could let me change password of my account?
I understand that all the usual methods have failed for you, even though they work everytime for me, that being said there are only 2 reasons for this, there is something else wrong with your Mac or you are not able to type the commands as needed (I am not choosing which, just stating the obvious).
Either way you now need hands on help, I do not advise tampering with the machine as the Root User, mistakes in Root mode will certainly make things worse. -
GE Energy requires us to use SAP for business. I downloaded the SAP Java GUI 720, can see it in the download window. But once I try to install it, the following message is shown: "SAP Java GUI 720 MacOSX.JAR” can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer. Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers."

Did security preferences in Safari break with version 7.1?
I updated to Safari 7.1 and Mavericks 10.9.5. With this update I can no longer open a pdf from a website using the Adobe Reader plugin without first having to change the security settings in Safari from Ask to Allow. I did not have to do this in version 7.0.6. In version 7.0.6 when opening a pdf from a particular website for the first time, it would ask if I trust the site and make an entry in the security preferences for Adobe Reader for that website. In version 7.1, it does not ask and thus will not open the pdf using Adobe Acrobat Reader. It will open it directly in Safari but I cannot see all the items such as attached notes to the pdf.
To fix this I needed to make a setting change in the security preferences from Ask to Allow for the Adobe Reader Plugin. This is not acceptable, as this permits opening of any pdf from any website. Is this a bug that Apple needs to fix?see:

Apple seemingly introduced a new security policy from Safari 8 on Mac OSX10.10 and from Safari 7.1 on Mac OSX 10.9.5.
(Adobe does not mention about Safari 7.1 on Mac OSX 10.9.5 in the above document.)
But this policy is so much disgusting. Safari 7.0.6's policy is more reasonable. -

MacBook Pro "cannot establish secure connection" can't connect to Internet, tried on two separate networks and via wifi and Ethernet. Any suggestions??
Mac book was connected and working then started giving error message "failed to establish secure connection" now cannot connect to Internet via any network. Either by wifi or Ethernet. However in network settings it says it is connected. iTunes also cannot connect so don't think it is a safari problem. Have also checked networks with other devices and the network itself seems to be working.
Have further problems with syncing phone (doesn't seem to registering removal of music, storage is not freeing up) but I am hoping that solving Internet connection may solve that problem as well

We've an article that provides the following troubleshooting steps that may help stabilize your iPhone.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged. Learn more about charging iPhone and iPod touch, or iPad.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.

If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.

Downloaded a printer driver from HP website for a p1102w laser printer. When I try to run the install package, I get a pop-up telling me that only App Store and "identified developers" application are allowed dur to my security preferences. When I try to change in System Preferences, the option to change is grayed out.
