Cannot unmount any disk images

Hey guys, I've a problem. I can't unmount all the disk images that I've mounted. The same thing with usb external drives.
The only way to eject is going to utility disk and unmount the images frome there. It's really annoying... Anyone can help me? I'm not sure, but i think that the problem was due to of cocktail software.. I set all the default setting but the problem isn't solved...
thanks for your help.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Cannot eject any disk or disk image

I cannot eject any disk or disk image except with disk utility. Dragging to trash, sidebar or toolbar buttons, even the keyboard button will not work. Restarting holding mouse button and disk utility eject button do work. Any suggestions?

    Try doing this:
Boot from your Tiger DVD. After the installer loads select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your OS X volume from the list on the left, click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (3.0.3 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.1.1 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
See if this restores your eject functions.

    Hi,
HP BD ROM BC 5541H cannot read any  disk cd / dvd.I tried these troubleshooting steps, but I still can't solve the problem. What should I do next? 1-Microsoft Fix it. 2- sfc /scannow, Scan result ( windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations. )  3- Uninstall device from device manager and install again, device manager status  ("This device is working properly").but rom have same behaviour , no any change.
Please help me.... how to diagnose/solve problem ?
    Regards,
    Minhas

You might check to see if you have the most current BIOS installed.
You  might also try removing it from device manager.
    Install the Intel Chipset Driver
Then reboot and let it reinstall it self.

  • How do I make Automator unmount a disk image everytime I quit Entourage?

I've found a way to password protest my email, by sticking my entourage data files in an encrypted disk image and then making an alias to link into that password protected disk image. My question is how do I make an Automator workflow that unmounts that disk image automatically when I quit Entourage. There has got to be a way to do this. It should be the most simple script.
On Entourage Quit: Unmount disk image [x]
But I can't seem to find out how to get this done.
    Can anyone help?

Encore does have a fit-to-disc feature, called "automatic transcoding", which chooses the bit rate based upon how much media there is to encode, how much room is currently on the disc, and applying format-legal restrictions (minimum and maximum bit rates allowable by the format).
So for instance, 30 minutes of video will never fill a disc because the required bit rate to do so would be higher than allowable by the format.

  • HELP ! Last To Sec . Updates causing problems-Won't mount any disk images

Just installed most current 2 updates Mac OS X v10.5.8 (Leopard) & now can't get my system to be able to mount any disk images of any kind. Internal expander gives me Mounting failed
Also tried to expand with Stuffit and got following message:
    SecUpd2009-003.dmg no mountable file system.
    SecUpd2009-004.dmg no mountable file system.
This first started with 2009-003 update and now 2009-004 it continues.
Also completely erased my backup external HD files.

If you did not repair permissions after updating, then try the following:
Try running +repair disk+ from your *software install DVD* and afterwards, run +repair permissions+ *from your HD.*

I was wanting a NAS to be used for over my ethernet network though, ie the NAS HDD will be up in my loft out of the way, whereas I have cables running up there to it - this is ok isnt it?
Never done this. But I do not see any problems with what you plan to do.
How is the restore disk made?
When you make a back up, SK creates a mirror of the drive you have backed up. A perfect mirror. You can boot from it, and everything looks exactly the same, except you have booted from the equivalent of the f drive. You can then, if you wish, erase/reformat the c drive and ask SK to restore. This simply reverses the process, and the f drive is mirrored to the now empty c drive.
I do not know if SK will make a bootable CD - have never tried it. Probably not, because even the minimum size bootable OS X is about 1.1 gB.
also where can it be backed upto? HDD, external HDD? NAS device (over ethernet), CD, or DVD?
I do not know about a CD or DVD. The others, yes. If your Mac can see the target drive, SK can back up to it.
Please be aware however that certain external enclosures, simply cannot be used for booting a Mac. USB is notoriously problematic, and even certain fw enclosures can be a problem.

  • Cannot see encrypted disk image in ML

I created an encrypted disk image (password protected folder) through Disk Utility in Snow Leopard. However, now that I have upgraded to Mountain Lion, that folder appears to have vanished or is invisible. All my other file are intact but I just cannot see this encrypted folder anymore.
Anyone else having the same experience or able to offer some pointers?
    Thanks,
    Peter

There would be no reason for Mountain Lion to hide it. That's not normal behavior. Mountain Lion follows the same rules in this regard that Snow Leopard did. But, you can certainly check to see if it has somehow become accidentally hidden by entering the following command into the Terminal (but don't press return yet):
    ls -al
Make sure there's a space at the end, and then drag the folder in which the .dmg file used to reside onto the Terminal window. This will enter the path to that folder in the command. Now switch back to the Terminal and press return. Do you see the .dmg file in the listing? If so, copy and paste the Terminal output into a message here, and I can give you a command that will show that file again.
If it's not there, it must have been accidentally deleted. (Again, not normal behavior, so most likely either it was accidentally deleted by you or someone else who uses that machine or the hard drive is badly corrupt and files are going missing.) Do you have a backup of that file?

  • Any Disk Image Checksumming gurus?

    Hi
Guess this may be an appropriate place for this question.
I have never had occasion to use the checksum feature of Disk Utility much, but tried today. Confused.
Used a locked disk image to burn two copies on data DVD's (double layer.) One verified at end of process, one didn't, hence I turned to the checksumming.
Basically, several questions. The checksum for the image itself appears to change from inquiry to inquiry. I thought this was impossible, if the image was locked?
Same result with each DVD. When checksumming them, their values appear to be different each time the process is run. Obviously, I am missing something here, and any light shed would be appreciated. (I do have some familiarity with the checksum process as it relates to downloaded files, rejoined segments of same, etc.) TIA

    Hi Every One
I know that this Problem happens with lots of people out there
It is not fault of Adobe, well Adobe is a good company, the problem is with the Vista Which has a hidden User Called Administrator.
Even if you are Administrator you don't have all the permission to access the files, All Permissions are only assigned to Core Administrator which is hidden.
If you want to enable that user here is the command for that
    Open Run Type Cmd
and then type this ----- net user administrator /active:yes
now your hidden administrator is active, you can work with the hidden administrator. simply log off your user and log in to the new account named Administrator and enjoy more benefits for example you can start the setups and all other programs and the UCI will not pop up and will not distrube You every time plus you have access to every thing but there is only one problem that is security you must secure your computer with good firewall and antivirus coz now you are using core Administrator which have access to every thing.
Well This is the whole detail
Now we should come to the real problem which is faced by lots of Users of Adobe Encore CS3, That is Access Deneid while writing DVD above from 4.7 GB.
To Avoid that Simply right click on Adobe Encore CS3 and select Open as Administrator or the second way is to use core Administrator user.
Now every thing will work fine
    Hope this will help you
    Many Thanks

  • Problems unmounting/ejecting a disk image after upgrade to 10.4.9

Since I upgraded to 10.4.9 I have the following problem:
After viewing a slideshow of pictures located in a disk image I cannot unmount/eject this image. I receive an error message that the image cannot be deactivated/ejected as some file is still in use.
Using the activity monitor I checked which files are in use by the Finder and found out that the last picture shown by slideshow is still referenced.
To me it seems as if the upgrade from 10.4.8 to 10.4.9 either changed the behaviour of slideshow (which does not close all files when terminated) or the eject image function (which does not force all open files in the image being closed).
The only bypasses I found so far are
    - using "umount -f" on Unix level (think I have to be an admin for that)
    or
    - logging off and on again / restarting the computer
Has anybody got other ideas how to force the unmount without using native UNIX commands in a terminal window?
Can someone tell me how I can report this bug to apple? On Apple's support pages I could not find any information on that.
Thanks in advance for any helpful hints.

The "Dock" contextual menu item to "Relaunch" the "Finder" is the equivalent of a "Force Quit", which is quite different from a regular "Quit".
Unless it is being unresponsive to a normal "Quit" signal, force quitting any application is not recommended because unsaved changes will be lost. In the case of the "Finder", any sort of file transfers in progress will be interrupted. Data loss may also occur if a file containing "comments" has been moved at some point earlier in the login session.
A normal "Quit", such as what occurs when logging out, quitting through the menu, using AppleScript or the "Quit" option of "Activity Monitor.app" ensures that the app quits in an orderly manner.

  • TM backup on network drive (cannot create disk image)

    Hi there,
I can see the volume in Time Machine, however, it cannot create the disk image or so it says. I had it up and running once, now after I have moved and replugged everything, it gives me this error message. any help out there?

I believe that the drive needs to be HFS+journaled. See for example: <http://www.macworld.com/article/132140-2/2008/02/timemachine2.html>

  • Disk image in doc has to be replaced after each unmount

    Hello everyone,
I have a disk image which I made in the disk utility program. I set it up with the security incription option when I make it. After opening it I placed the image that mounts up on the desktop into my dock so I can easily go through the sub menu folders and so on.
When I was in os10.4.11 I had no problem going back into it after reboot or after unmounting the disk image and remounting it. But in 10.5.8 (which I am now using), every time I eject the image and remount it the fold in the dock does not work. I have to pull the folder (image) off the dock and drag the one from the desktop onto the dock every time. Is there any way to fix this?
    Thank you for any help.
    Marco

All the information is within the EDB file and I don't believe lower end tools like Stellar or others provide access to them and then there is the question of accuracy.  Our DigiScope tool the tools from Kroll and Quest are accurate and reliable and
will give you access to all the recoverable items folders so you can export to PST and import as needed.   You can get a DEMO license for DigiScope which will allow you to open all the mailboxes and their associated Recoverable Items folder to ensure
what you need is there before purchasing a license.
Another option would be to see if Stellar exported any of the recurring meetings from the calendar.  You should be able to open the PST and see if any of the recurring items exists within the PST.  If they do then you might see about importing
them from PST via Outlook and then once in place open the items to ensure they are set to be recurring and if not have the user adjust the recurring settings.
Search, Recover, & Extract Mailboxes, Folders, & Email Items from Offline Exchange Mailbox and Public Folder EDB's and Live Exchange Servers or Import/Migrate direct from Offline EDB to Any Production Exchange Server, even cross version i.e. 2003 -->
    2007 --> 2010 --> 2013 with Lucid8's

  • Problems Restoring Erasing Drive: Cannot Unmount Disk

I just intalled an SSD in my macbook pro, and would like to use my old hard drive as a storage disk. When i boot into the ssd (mountian lion) and try to erase the old disk it says it cannot unmount the disk. i have also tried booting off an external disk (also mountain lion) and i get the same problem. Any ideas would be greatly apprectiated.

Sometimes when DU can't unmount a drive or volume it's because something else like Spotlight or TimeMachne has it in use. Set your Spotlight to ignore the drive.
Also try using command r booting into Recovery for Disk Utlity there, it doesn't have Spotlight, TM or anything like that so it should unmount the drive.
If your still having problems and you don't care about the data on the drive, then you can try buring a disk of Parted Magic ISO and see if you can option key or c key boot off of it and go hog wild messing up the drive's data and boot flags.
Once that's done use Recvoery to Secure Erase (middle selection) and that will take care of it, then format GUID OS X extended journaled, GUID or MBR + exFAT or whatever.
