Cannot unmute microphone

Just reformatted my hard dri've and reinstalled Windows XP for the first time in 6 years of owning this computer, but my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 zs Gamer sound card did not come with the installation CD when it came with my computer. When I first got my computer years ago, my microphone line was for some reason muted by default under Creative Audio HQ program (why on Earth they would mute it there by default still confounds me), and no matter what I did in the Windows Play Control and Windows Recording Control to mute or unmute the mic didn't work. After hours of hair pulling, I realized I had to unmute the mic in Creative's Audio HQ FIRST, THEN it worked properly within all of Windows.
But now after reformatting, I don't have Audio HQ installed anymore, the Windows XP cd that came with my computer doesnt have the Creative sound software suite on it, it's no longer on the Creative website as a download, what I found for the suite on Google only was for upgrading, and it needed a previous version installed to let it install. It isnt on my OEMs website, and they do not have the software either after dealing with their tech support guys over the phone. So HOW do I unmute Creative's control over my microphone channel if I can't get to that option anymore to do it's?
I have 3 mics I've tried this with, to make sure it wasnt just a mic being bad. I am getting like NO sound from the mic whatsoever. This is really frustrating, and I don't know what else to do. Any help you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

redb22,
IIRC, the A2ZS Gamer card had the same installation CD as other versions. You can find it [url="http://www.filefront.com/5488235/SB_Audigy_2_ZS.rar/">here.[/url]

  • Help I cannot unmute microphone in Macbook?

I muted the built in microphone in my macbook via the midi settings app from utilities. However I can't seem to unmute it. There are three channels M, 1 and 2. Channel 1 and 2 are on but the M channel is grayed out. Do you guys have any idea what is going on? I have tried to record a video via photobooth but i hear no sound recorded.
    Thanks in advance!

First, make sure that it is recognized in System Profiler.
Second, open the Audio MIDI application. On the column near the side click the microphone (input). Near the volumn adjustments, make sure that it is not on mute.

  • My microphone in FaceTime is permanetly muted. Cannot unmute.

Nowone can hear me on FaceTime but I can see and hear them. Works ok on Skype. Cannot unmute microphone. Symbol has a bar through it as if I muted it. Selected the internal mic in setup not line in. Ant ideas?

To anyone having a similar problem....
Well troubleshooting reveals nothing wrong this end. The pblm was determined to be the contacts ROUTER. Possibly a firewall setting. I see now I could eliminate pblm by having my contact take the IPad to a coffee shop to eliminate ROUTER pblm. Then I'll address the contact's router settings.

  • Cannot unmute my Macbook Pro?

I cannot unmute my Macbook Pro.  Why?

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
        Highlight  Internal Speakers
Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
    2. Remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    3. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    4. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.

  • Cannot unmute mic in facetime?

Cannot unmute mic in facetime, I can hear them but they can't hear me?

I'm assuming that you have tried the mute/unmute icon?
Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).
    No data will be lost.

  • Cannot unmute

Today, the red touchkey icon above the function keys indicating the sound is muted was activated and I cannot deactive it; i.e. I cannot unmute my computer, and thus no longer have sound. I can unmute the sound via the volume control, but the red icon still stays on. If I press it the mute shows up again on the volume control. Any help would be appreciated.
    I have:

OK every one i read some more and i think i found out how to fix the problem with no sound:
    1 go to Control Panel
    2 go to Device Manager
3 go to Sound, video, and game controllers
4 double click the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
5 go to Driver on the top of the IDT screen
6 click Roll Back Driver...yes it takes away the most recent update but it worked for me
7 after it is done rolling back go back to the IDT screen and go back to driver and click the Update Driver... button...don't interrupt it let it do a search and update
if after those steps your audio still doesn't work properly then i cannot help any further
    hope your sound comes back

  • Macbook pro microphone muted in ichat, cannot unmute

So I am trying to iChat with my Dad who is in Kunming, China. We had an iChat a week prior to him leaving the U.S., everything was fine. I have had iChats with him in China before, no problems.
This time, for some reason the mic on his MacBook Pro is muted and no matter what he presses in iChat he cannot un-mute it. The video part of the chat works fine and he can hear me. He doesn't use any other programs that would use the audio input. I had him check in system preferences and the internal microphone is listed and active. He's 80 and not super savy with the MB Pro yet, though he's better with it than most people half his age... So many web sites are banned over there, he was concerned somehow or another his audio is being blocked. I can't imagine that would be possible, I'm sure it's either a setting or possibly a malfunction with the computer. If I have him reset his PRAM, would that cancel out any other program that may have hijacked the mic? We've tried on 2 separate occasions and he's restarted and no luck.
    thanks!

    Hi,
In iChat 4 and upwards the Video and Audio streams are on the same port.
This would make it virtually impossible to block one without  blocking the other.
    Just to double check
System Preferences > Sound > Input
Ideally this should have the Mic chosen and the volume set to make the blue bar get to at least 1/2 way (3/4s is better).  It should not move so far that it bangs into the right hand end.
This will cause the OS software to "Clip" the Audio to prevent feedback - which means no input is made and you will hear nothing.
    Next.
iChat > Preferences > Video section.
If there are two Inputs showing in System Preferences he will have a drop down
It should list the same device.
The green bar below the Video pic should also move (Although less than the blue bar did/does)
    Headsets
If he is now using a Headset.
Change the iChat Option to anything but the headset mic.
Do the same in System Preferences > Sound > Input.
Now set System Preferences > Sound > Input "First"
And iChat > Microphone Drop Down "Last"
He may need to do this for an Output choice if it appears in iChat and in the System Preferences > Sound > Output.
He needs to be concerned with with getting Sound In to iChat as that is what you hear.
It is easy to think that it is Output as it goes over the internet to the Buddy.
    More.
    The Video Menu of iChat
In here the Microphone Enabled should be ticked
Selecting this items toggles the tick on or Off (And the Mic On or Off)
I would also check the View Menu
In here make sure the Show Audio Status is ticked.
This will show Audio icons next to the Buddies (Particularly if you deselect Show Video Status)
Show Video should allow Audio but it will not hurt to check.
In fact I would toggle the Microphone Enabled and both Show Statuses to make the App write the info to the .plist
Then try an Audio Only chat
You can do this from the Buddies menu (Or right clicking a Buddy) or by having Show Video Status Off.
    Yet more.
I would also open the Connection Doctor from the Video menu at both ends during a chat
    This will report the stats.
If his Bitrate is not stable then his audio may be effected.
iChat will try to cope with changes by Buffering the Video which means dropping frames which then means the audio is dropped as it will not be in sync.
You can try Limiting his Bandwidth in the Video Section of the Preferences to 500kbps
This will smooth out large variances when using Extremely fast services that vary.
500kbps is more than enough for a 4 way Video chat as Host but is a useful tool in iChat 5
If his Framerate also varies it will be a sure sign that his Internet speed is varying.
It may pay for you to drop your to 500kbps as well as hs end may be struggling to deal with high data loads from your end.
As a Last resort try both end at 200kbps (Anything below this will not Video)
Change one end at a time and keep an eye on the Connection Doctor to see when the end that has changed has settled.  The Buffering will smooth out the change.

  • Cannot change microphone access in privacy options, iPhone 4S iOS 7.04

When trying to allow applications (viber, skype etc) to access the microphone in privacy settings, the apps either do not appear for me to allow them permission or the option is totally grayed out so I cannot allow permission....! Help! Any ideas as to why and how I can remedy this? It's really frustrating. I've uninstalled and reinstalled all apps and still no results.
My iPad is on iOS 7.04 and has no issues with this so I can only imagine it is the phone causing this problem?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • Thinkpad S540 : Cannot Disable Microphone for real (even if disabled in BIOS)

    Hi,
I have an uncommon problem. Usualy people have troubles to get their devices working, mine is working to well...
I got a wonderful Thinkpad S540, working very well from scratch under the last Ubuntu 14.10
I went to the BIOS to disable all the devices I don't need like WAN, Bluetooth, camera AND MICROPHONE !
But this last one doesn't want to leave from my configuration.
And it is VERY sensitive and powerfull, I've tested it a bit at work, at home and I manage to catch conversation very far away from my place with the microphone with simple software like arecord, example :
    arecord -D default -f cd toto.wav
    next, try :
    vlc toto.wav
you will be upset by the high quality of the record. I made some test, the entire metal LCD panel is used "as" microphone amplifier. I tried to cover the mutiple holes at the top of the LCD panel, it still works Great...
The problem is : I would like to switch it off...
I flashed the last BIOS Revision: 1.63
I disabled the microphone in the BIOS, I restart 5 times, with and without the AC adaptater, it doesn't change anything...
Does someone know how to switch microphone off for real ?
Is it a Bug in the BIOS ?
Can we have some support contact to get a new working BIOS release ?
    Regard's

    Sorry guys,
problem sorted, my BIOS supervizer password was different than power on password, always when I was promt to put in password, I was putting there the one for power on and it let me go in BUT when I wen in BIOS, I wasnt able to access settings.
after I put in right supervisor password everything is working how supose to.

  • Cannot record microphone "What U hear"

I have X-fi notebook ExpressCard and it has the "What U hear" feature. However, it can only record what is outputing from my speaker but not the microphone. Any way to record both sound from the speaker and the microphone?
    Thanks a lot!
Message Edited by liemonline on 06-03-2009 2:03 PM

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, it doesn't work.
It would be great if my friend can hear the background music while we are talking in Skype. Before I had a USB sound card from China; it costs me 7 USD but it does an amazing job. With that cheap external sound card, I can record from speaker or both speaker + microphone. But its driver? doesn't not work in Windows Vista 64. I just wish that my X-fi sound card could do the same thing.

  • I cannot unmute my sound system.

I am using Windows 7 operationg system on a Pavilion dv9607 notebook. I plugged my earphones in and listened to videos, left them plugged up and muted my sound system. A day later, I listened to some videos witht he headphones so I unmuted the sound and watched a few, then muted it again, leaving th eearphones plugged in. • Cannot record; Microphone keeps disconnecting & reconnecting in split second. Help!

    Hi,
I was trying to record something and I noticed that my recording was interrupted after each consecutive 17 seconds. The recording fades away and fades back in during the interrupt. It is very annoying because the recording is not fluent; specially when recording music.
I tried the virtual expert, it didn't help. I also factory reseted my mobile and then again, same result. Could someone suggest me another alternative so I can get this fixed?
    Thank you for your time!

Hello negatron. Having a WiFi connection that just drops and reconnects can get very annoying, so let's see what we can do to help your phone maintain a steadier connection. Outside of everything that you have done, the other recommendation would be to attempt changing the broadcast type. If you have a router that sends out a mixed B,G,N network, try changing it so it only sends out in N mode, or B & G only. This may help your phone maintain a steadier connection to your home network. Also, make sure that your router's firmware is also up to date as well!
Let us know if this helps out, Negatron!

  • Windows Vista - Sound Blaster 24 Bit Usb - No Microphone Playback Real Time Kara

    Hi,
I don't no if this problem was just discussed in another thread, if so please giveme simply the link...
I'm Italian, so sorry for my poor english or bad translation...
    PC: Laptop, "Toshiba Satellite A 200 24E"
OS: "Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack " - All update done.
Dev.: "External Sound Blaster 24 Bit Usb" - Driver downloaded from Creative Web Site
At the very beginning I tried the internal Sound Card (Realtek) to do karaoke in spare time, but couldn't hear anything coming from Microphone. So I tried to buy an external sound card. The result is the same.
On "Record Device" I can see the Microphone Device, the level is on top, when I speak in the microphone I can see the green bar light up, if I record my voice I can hear myself when I playback, but no sound in real time.
I read that a lot of people have similar problems, but everone solves in a different manner...
    I tried:
    - I read in other forums advices about to do something like unmute microphone on "Audio playback devices" >> "Speaker" >> "Levels", but I don't see any checkbox, I can see only Speaker Level Bar...
    - As read in other websites, to add a registry key (something like EnableInputMonitor in a specific path), but nothing changes. I cannot find other Device, not in Playback Devices, and not in Record Devices.
Please help, all was great with the same microphone, on old Packard Bell Laptop, old Sound Blaster mp3+ usb, and old Windows Xp.
If no solution, I 'm going on buy an old laptop with Windows xp, or an external Mixer, but I'm disappointed on spending more money...

    well ?
