Cannot update Acrobat 9.1.2 on Mac OS 10.7.3

Brand clean new installation of Mac OS 10.7.3 on a Brand New HD Replacement.
Installed Adobe Acrobat and immediately went and updated, entered my Admin Password, download begins, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, status bar is scrolling along (slowly) accept installation, wait, wait, wait...
This of course is so not true.
when I spoke with the technical support line yesterday, we discussed how I was able to easily download the 9.5.0 update from the downloads page on the website, and how when I open this and attempt to find the Application to Associate with the update, the Adobe Acrobat icon in the Acrobat folder is "Greyed Out" and cannot be selected.  I was then told that I had to start with the next level update.
I download that, and attempt to install it with the same result. I cannot select the Application Icon.

Thank you for your reply, David.
As soon as I get my replacement computer I will embark to Install and
update this product all over again for the fourth time, and try what you
suggest.

  • Cannot update Acrobat 8.0

    Hi.
I have a problem.  I have installed Adobe CS3 Design Premium on my computer.
(Windows XP SP3, 4GB Ram,250GB HD with 205 free space, Intel Core 2 6600 CPU)
I cannot install the updates for Acrobat.  Everything else updated.  I had a corrupt profile, which may have caused some errors, so I uninstalled and reinstalled CS3 on my current good profile.  Still I cannot update Acrobat 8.0 Professional.  Acrobat Reader is not installed.
I get bootstrapper errors when I do the update process within Acrobat:
(Adobe BootStrapper for chaining multiple patches. has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.)
I tried the .msp files, but they are not recognized by Windows.  (This patch package could not be opened.  Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package).  I have tried the sequential steps and they don't work.  Starting with the first msp file (AcrobatUpd810_efgj_incr.msp)
When I go into Help, About Adobe Acrobat Professional, I get Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.0.0.
    Can anybody help?

Did you go to the update page and manually download/install the updates?

  • Cannot update Acrobat X Pro

Installed Acrobat X Pro in Windows 7. Downloaded update and tried to install. Got the following error message from the Adobe Acrobat Updater: "Update failed. The system cannot open the device or file specified." No error number displayed.
I then tried the Adobe update troubleshooting procedure: reinstall Reader or use a different browser (IE8 & Firefox 4). Still cannot update Acrobat. I was unable to check the Reader as no updates were available.
What do I do nex?. Any help would be appreciated.

Acrobat version 10.0.0. Three updates are available 10.0.1 through 10.0.3. Downloaded by Acrobat "Help" and "Check for updates..." Is there another help menu to download from? I assume these are downloaded together. How can I download or install one at a time? Where is the downloaded file located? Where do I find the Adobe Updater? Is there any way to do this download/install process manually?
While troubleshooting this problem the error message changed when I tried the install:
This is now the only message I get. It appears that the update is being downloaded correctly. I tried the Microsoft Fix It wizard as recommended in the Adobe Troubleshooting page -- didn't work.
And I still can't download updates. Still need help!

  • Cannot update Acrobat Pro to 9.3.2 from 9.3.1

I am attempting to update Acrobat Pro to 9.3.2 from 9.3.1. Downloading the update, I am met with this:
The patch has failed because the application has been modified since it was originally installed (for example, plug-ins may have been disabled).
Please go to the Adobe support website for more information regarding how to re-enable disabled components prior to installing the patch.  Or, you can uninstall and reinstall the application, and then reinstall the patch.
Where do I find this "information" on the Adobe website? If Vague is an island, Abobe must be on it.
    Any solutions others have found?
Uninstall and reinstall is a solution? Been down this road 16 months ago and it was a full afternoon on the phone with tech support in India. If this is the only solution offered, I am fine at the current crap unsafe version from Adobe. Unless of course Adobe is prepared to pay me for my time.

I am a sys admin and have always had problems with Acrobat for many many year. I have spent 3 hours on the phone with tech support. Pushed out a new build with nothing else on except the base OS and still fails in the update and tried everything and yes im not a standard user, this is my job i build macs day in day out in 30 minutes flat, scripting, packaging the lot.
You can see in the log it tries to download an update with an incorrect url http:/ when it should be http:// this is really terrible and just shows there is no UAT at all. Yesterday another tech support just told me for another full suite that just dragging the apps to the Trash is a normal uninstall method. The tech support guy today told me Acrobat comes with all CS5 product  but thats incorrect because it doesn't come with Production Premium!
Adobe i believe your Acrobat team is separate from other teams and i understand why you have had to break it off from the suite but  come on this has been going on for so many years now its beyond a joke. You should fix it once and for all or at least get version x working with combined updaters like other vendor and offer free upgrades from 9 to 10.
What is the point going on about all these extra features and security fixes if no one can even update the product! Spend hours on the phone with untrained staff with poor product knowledge and waste every ones time because i am a very experienced sys admin and get sick to death of Acrobat updates which rarely ever work!
Also the system requirements for the update only goes to OS 10.6.3 and even the latest 9.4.1 only goes to OS 10.6.4 So even if every one can some how get i working its not even going to work on a 10.6.5 OS... pathetic so stuck no one listening, tech support don't listen. We just need an alternative good competitor then i am not buying or dealing with Adobe ever again!

  • Cannot update Acrobat Pro

    Hi,
When I try to update Acrobat Pro to the newest minor version (9.3.3), I cannot complete the operation due to a dialog box that appears in the background, and cannot be moved to the foreground. To complete the operation I should click a button in this dialog box, but it is impossible and I must force-quit the updater.
This bug was already in the previous version of Acrobat, and despite I and others reported it, it is still there. Maybe someone knows how to solve the problem without waiting for a fix?
    Paolo
As you see, the lower dialog box stays in the background (and cannot be moved forward).

I'm having a similar problem.  I did check in Adobe support and could find nothing related to my issue.  In Fact, several support search responses directed me to this forum.
When I try to update, at some point in the repair I get a dialogue box that is titled "Repair Setup."  It just sits there, won't go away won't let me check or uncheck anything in the box or move it.  From this discussion I got the suggestion and tried running the repair command under the help menu.  This at least lets me check of uncheck the checkbox and click cancel or continue.  This box asks whether I want or don't want the Acrobat plug-in in Safari.  I definitely don't want it there.  When I uncheck the box it says it has removed it, but the dialogue box stays in place in the center of my screen until I reboot the computer.  If I re-run repair Acrobat, it once again lets me check or uncheck and tell it to cancel or continue.  So, I tried telling it it could install the plug-in.  It then told me I had to quit Safari.  So, I quit Safari and tried again, but it keeps telling me I have to quit Safari even though I have already quit Safari.
This is hugely frustrating.  It makes me want to make sure I never try to upgrade Acrobat again.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    --Kenoli

  • Cannot update Acrobat Std V 8.1.1

Whether I try to update Acrobat from within the application or from the Adobe web site's download, neither the product nor security updates will install.
From within, the error messages are non-descript, only that there was a problem. When trying to run the .MSP downloaded file, the error says that "The installation source for this product is not available..."
I am running Windows XP Pro 2002 SP2

    Hi,
I have a similar problem. In my case, the installation files are obviously downloaded, but the installation always finishes prematurely with "Installation mistake (no details). I HAVE installed Acrobat Pro completely (current version 8.1.1).
I would very much like to have that security update since I use Acrobat Pro instead of Acrobat Reader ...
I am running WIN 2000 with all SPs on a new computer with high performance.

  • Cannot update Acrobat Professional 9.0.0

My situation: I have bought Adobe Acrobat Pro (version 8) for Max OSX and later on bought an update to version 9 (Acrobat Professional). However I am unable to update the software as I keep on receiving the message that the software is not in it's original configuration (plugins are missing). I should fix that problem which could be done by reinstalling the software. However, that advise did not work for me.
When I select the REPAIR-option (my version is in Dutch, I don't know if REPAIR is the menu-item in the English version, but it is an option found in the HELP-menu) in version 8, there is nothing to be repaired. In version 9 I can repair the Adobe PDFViewer Safari-plugin and the Adobe PDF Printer plugin. After repairing those plugins, I receive a pop-up confirming that everything is repaired. However: the update is still not being installed and when I ask to REPAIR again, it appears that the same plugins still need to be repaired.
So: it seems to be the case that I am unable to repair those 2 plugins in version 9.
Is one of you familiar with this problem? If so, (how) did you fix this problem?
    Best regards,
    M.

And... the problem is solved!!! Thank you VERY much
Fixing the permissions did the trick! At first I was doubtfull as the uninstaller from Adobe even refused to uninstall Adobe 9 (I then decided to just put the app-folder in the trash bin). But after deleting Adobe 9, fixing permissions and reinstalling the software, I was able to update to version 9.1.2.
    Best regards,

  • Cannot update Acrobat 9

I was able to install (from disk) Acrobat 9 on my new Windows 7 PC (64-bit, Ultimate), but it crashes each time I choose the update. Sometimes it says it needs to add an "installer," but then it crashes again, too.
I have it on my laptop, where there was no problem, and I never use the two simultaneously. Any ideas?

Maybe it has something to do with the Windows installer version that you're using? (I dunno if Adobe uses that or not.). Regardless, I don't think it would hurt to update to the latest version.
    Here's the KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893803
You also might want to try turning off your anti-malware package during the install, and turning off User Account Control.
Open Control Panel. Open User Accounts. Click on Change User Account Control Settings. Push slider down to Never Notify. You may have to restart your machine for this to take effect. (And you should set it back to where it was if you're subsequently successful in the install.)
(As an FYI, I'm having a bit of an issue with multi-page PDF's opening in an IE9 browser session after upgrading Acrobat v9.45 to v9.50, so you might want to see if you have that issue too.)

  • Updating Acrobat Pro 9 to new Mac

I have an existing version of Acrobat Pro ( (version 10.1.8) running on my old MacBook Pro (running OSX 10.6.8)
How do I transfer this to my new MacBook Air (running 10.7.4)?

    1. Obtain all of the following
    - original install media
    - original serial number
    - if an upgrade, serial number of the OLDER version of Acrobat
    2. Install on new system
    3. If install says too many registrations used, contact Adobe to have this resolved.

  • Cannot update my iWork suite through the Mac App Store

I read an article that apple is allowing older users of iWork (those who used discs to install iWork) to upgrade for free through the Mac App Store. However, when I go into the store, it wants me to purchase them all over again. Why is this happening?

Could be any number of issues folks have encountered: incomplete Spotlight indexing; non-English primary language; apps in iWork folder, etc.

  • Cannot update Acrobat Pro 9.3.0

    get the following message
The patch has failed because the application has been modified since it was originally installed (for example, plug-ins may have been disabled).
I went to the Adobe support website and found no solution.  Is this a Snow Leopard problem?  Shouldn't it have been resolved by now?  Does anyone have a fix?

Thanks but I've tried this already. The results are varied even with the JPEG set in greyscale settings. I've actually been through all of the various image options trying to get a good result. Occasionally the photo on the front side scans correctly while the reverse side looks as if it has been through a black and white photocopier. The engineer had the same trouble when scanning, its not just me! I'm not filled with confidence when a engineer shrugs his shoulders and says "I don't know"
The only way I have been able to get around this is by downloading and installing the trial version of Kofax Express.
Been using Kofax Express all afternoon today and the images look great. I've spent more than two weeks trying to get this sorted, two weeks of putting jobs on hold and telling customers they'll have to wait..
I can't possibly wait any longer. If this is a common problem then someone needs to provide the documentation. Either way I've spent a lot longer on this than I'm prepared to..

  • Cannot open Acrobat XI due to error 213:5

I have followed the directions at the website for checking permissions on two Adobe folders
and these are set up correctly.
I have downloaded the 3 updates for Acrobat XI
I have rebooted 3 time and still cannot access Acrobat XI
    I am on Mac 10.7
    Now what?

    Hi,
This could be because of permission issues.
Can you please navigate to the location : --
    [Home]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/SLStore
    Rename the Folder -- "SLStore"
and Relaunch the Acrobat and see if that works.
Although this is a different error, but you can try the patch for fixing licensing shared here -- http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/error-213-19-licensing-acrobat.html
    Thanks,
