Cannot update Apple's Apps installed by vendor

When I bought my MacBook Pro the vendor pre-installed some Apple's Apps that came free with the purchase of the MacBook Pro for me such as iMovie, etc. Now when I tried to update the apps my Apple ID is not allowed to update the apps. How could I fix this problem? Can I uninstalled the apps and re-install with my Apple ID? I was going to try but was afraid that I might have to pay for them. Thank you so much.

The vendor must have used his Apple ID which is a no-no. You can delete the applications and re-download them through the App Store using your Apple ID, but you may have to pay for them. See the following:
The iWork apps are free with a new iOS device since 1 SEP 2013. They are free with a new Mac since 1 OCT 2013. They are also free with the upgrade to OS X Mavericks 10.9 if you had the previous version installed when you upgraded.
iWork and iLife for Mac come free with every new Mac purchase. Existing users running Mavericks can update their apps for free from the Mac App Store℠. iWork and iLife for iOS are available for free from the App Store℠ for any new device running iOS 7, and are also available as free updates for existing users. GarageBand for Mac and iOS are free for all OS X Mavericks and iOS 7 users. Additional GarageBand instruments and sounds are available for a one-time in-app purchase of $4.99 for each platform.

Had you never backed up the phone before? When you saw the iTunes logo and cable, the device was in recovery mode. The data was already lost. The only way to recover from that is to restore the device, which will delete all of your data. You will only be able to restore to your last backup, whenever that was. Sorry this happened, but this highlights the importance of doing regular backups. The backup is the only protection you have against a problem like this.

Update your device to the latest version of iOS.
    Update your apps:

If updates are available, tap Update All.
If asked, enter your Apple ID password. The updates will download and install.

  • I cannot update my iPhone apps

i cannot update my iPhone apps - when i try to download updates that are available, i get the message "cannot connect to the iTunes store."  (But I can connect to the iTunes store to purchase a new app.)

I updated to this crappy IO5 thing and ever since, I've been having problems, too.  Of course, I thought I had done something wrong.  Now that I've found you guys here, it's nice to know I'm not losing my mind.
Most of my apps are now missing.  (Purchased and free)  I figured it was a scam by apple to make us buy them again so they could make more money.  Which REALLY irritated me.
My phone shows that I, too, have 6 updates and when I try to update, the apple id is my daughter's.  How do I change that?  Where do I change that?  NOBODY in this house knows what THAT password is!!!
I went to my itunes account on my computer (signed in just fine with my id and password i've been using for years) and tried to update the apps there.  It said I had 6 updates, then when I hit the update button, it said I had 13.  And now that it's done?  I have 4 more to update, but i get the message "No updates are currently available.  To check for updates on another Apple ID, sign in with that Apple ID".  WTH????
As much money as I know MY family spends between updating phones, the monthly 'subscription' rate to make it all work, the songs we purchase, the apps we purchase, etc (not to mention everyone else in the world that they get money from)........ Apple isn't giving us any warm n fuzzy feelings to make us want to renew any contracts in 3 months and keep the iPhones.  We may be looking into alternate phones - that are not apple associated.
Is anything working for anyone?  Is anyone able to figure out this updating dilema??

  • HT203163 I cannot update various games/apps. When I attempt with my correct password, I get message "cannot connect to Itune store".what to do?

I cannot update various games/apps on my ipad. When I attempt to update using my correct Apple ID and password, I get message "cannot connect to Itune store".
    How to fix?

    Hello, Olliegirl1.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
When experiencing issues connecting to the iTunes store on an iOS device, here are the troubleshooting steps that I would recommend going through.
Troubleshoot issues on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store:
Make sure your date, time, and time zone are correct in Settings > General > Date & Time.
Note: Time Zone may list another city in your time zone.
Make sure that your iOS software is up to date by tapping Settings > General > Software Update (iOS 5 or later) or connecting your iOS device to iTunes and clicking Check for Update on your device's Summary page.
Check and verify that you're in range of a Wi-Fi router or base station. If you're on a device with cellular service, make sure that cellular data is turned on from Settings > General > Cellular.
Note: If connected to cellular data, larger items may not download. You may need to connect to Wi-Fi to download apps, videos, and podcasts.
Make sure that you have an active Internet connection. You can check the user guide for your device for help with connecting to the Internet.
Make sure that other devices (portable computers, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the Internet.
Try resetting (turning off and then on again) your Wi-Fi router.
If the issue persists, try troubleshooting your Wi-Fi networks and connections.
Can't connect to the iTunes Store

What are you refering to here? Mac OS 9 came out around 2001 ( or about ).  Mac OS 9 last run  in an emulation mode in 10.4.11 -- Tiger.  Mac OS 9 ran on PPC machines that were last produced before 2004 or so.
I think your conclusion you need Mac OS 9 is incorrect.

iPhoto '11, Mac OS X (10.6.8), need to upgrade system to 10.8
We need to verify some information.  Are you really running 10.6.8?  What hardware?
Here is how to find out what version of Mac OS you are running:
Click on the blue apple in the upper left hand of the screen.
    click on this icon
Click on the first line, "About This Mac"
Most of these are numbers & that's what we want.
What version & Processor do you have?

  • I cannot access Apple Store app from iPhone 4

I cannot access Apple Store app from iPhone 4.
We're sorry, the Apple Store app is currently not supported in the country associated with your Apple ID.
I am in USA and my correct address is on my account.

you can't, but you can simply ignore it. but if you REALLY want to delete it, call apple customer support to ask for a deletion. though, you'll need the password and security questions of the old account.
you can manage your apple ID's at: https://appleid.apple.com/

  • ITunes cannot sync... apps installed on the iPhone could not be determined.

I am trying to activate an original iPhone.  I keep running into issues (partially because the rest of the world is activating 4Gs phones).  I would appreciate any help that is available.
I am working on a MacBook running OSX 10.5.8.  My iTunes has been updated- 10.5.
I am currently getting a message- iTunes cannot sync apps to the iPhone “MRL iphone” because the apps installed on the iPhone could not be determined. The iphone screen shows the usb cord/plug pointing to the itunes logo whether attached to a computer or not.  And says slide for emergency use.
-I have restored to factory settings several times both from a previous backup and set up as new phone.
-I have even attempted to use another Mac and a family member's windows machine with similar results on all.
-I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes
-I have put the phone into the recovery mode and restored from there
-I have restarted both the computer and phone numerous times
-I have replace the SIM card with a new card from the provider
-I have received an email saying the phone was activated (and have called to verify with the service provider)
I'm sure there are other things I have tried as well that I am forgetting, as I have been at this now for about 3days.  There have been times when I got nothing but a breif "accessing iTunes store" and then a white screen with the grey word iPhone in the middle.  At least now I have the normal summary screen when clicking on the device.  Unfortunately I am still getting an error "iTunes cannot sync apps to the iPhone “MRL iphone” because the apps installed on the iPhone could not be determined." I am not attempting to sync apps, just sync the phone to get a current/clean backup.  I will want to sync the apps, just haven't been able to get that far.
By the way, prior to starting this process the iphone worked perfectly- no issues.  This just seems to have become an issue when I attempted to restore to factory settings for a clean start with the new line.
This is the furthest I have been able to get in the process.  I really need to get this up and running soon as I will need the phone for the work week.
    Please help!

Not sure if this is a solution or not but it seemed to work for me.  Simply restart your iphone.
    From the iphone troubleshooting page
To restart iPhone, first turn iPhone off by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider and iPhone will turn off after a few moments.
Next, turn iPhone on by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

  • Updating Apple Store App

I cannot update the Apple Store App as it is calling for an old Apple ID which I no longer use. I cannot delete the App as it is an Apple installed App. Without deleting it I do not know how to get around this and update it.

    hawghead wrote:
It seems to be one of the pre-installed apps as it does not "jiggle" and have an x in the top left as other apps do in order to delete them. It is the app with an A and a circle around it. I do not have deleting apps disabled and have had to deleter others and reinstall them with the correct Apple ID. They have not given me any issues but this app will not delete.
None of the pre-installed iOS apps ever get an 'update' option, other than the iOS update itself.  Phone, Notes, Mail, Messages, Photos, Camera, App Store, iTunes Store; none of these ever get individual updates.

  • Security code is invalid. - Cannot Update or Purchase Apps

Same issue as so many others. Again (this happened before but all I had to do was renter my credit card info). I was able to delete account and re-enter in both iTunes or online and it worked but not this time. Either the recent Safari update, iTunes update or iOS 4 killed the ability to use my nextwave Titanium Pre-paid credit card which I was using for over a year and a half with no problem. I was shipped a new card a few months ago, but up until yesterday, it was working absolutely fine for updates and purchases on the iTunes Music Store in Canada, even with a new security code. As it stands I can't update any of my apps now and no changing of the credit card through either iTunes, Apple.ca, or the iPhone seems to allow my security code.
After speaking with Apple Canada Tech this morning, it appears to be an issue with prepaid cards. However, I do not use another credit card, and it has worked just fine prior to updates. I shouldn't have to pick up a prepaid iTunes card just to perform updates on my apps, especially when all was fine prior to the iTunes, iOS, or Safari updates. Easily 3 hours wasted trying to get this resolved so far.
Incredibly frustrating especially to a long-time Apple product user (over 20 years). I'm going to stop trusting updates again and hold off doing any since there never seems to be enough people/time allocated to the bug testing departments to fix these issues. Please Apple, let's get these things fixed before the product's release. You're killing the excitement of new releases and updates again.
Also: when the iPhone brings up the first dialog box that says you must tap 'OK' to sign in, and the dialog button actually says 'Continue', perhaps they should be the same word to show some consistency.

Just thought I'd try reentering my prepaid credit card info again using all of the various ways (iTunes, Apple.ca/Store, iPhone, and MobileMe) and of course nothing worked. Still an invalid security code or even invalid number. Of course, no response from Apple on here and the phone support tells me to try a pre-paid iTunes card. Isn't that tantamount to bait-and-switch when my original credit card worked in the first place? And what if I don't have a budget for that?
It's clear that these credit card issues are affecting a large number of users as Google searches turn up plenty of forum postings about these topics, not only on Apple's boards but other web forums. If there was at least some acknowledgment of the problems and an attempt to fix them, or some kind of iTunes store credit given in the meantime, it would go a long way to building goodwill among your client base.
As an Apple user of over 20 years, I have never seen as many bugs as I have in the last few years. In my humble opinion, while these forums are an excellent start, clearly they are not monitored enough and there is not enough done to correct these problems.
My iPhone 3G is now not only running incredibly slow thanks to iOS 4, but I still cannot update apps - even the free ones - which may solve some of the slow software issues and crashes. Sure, purchasing can be done with a prepaid iTunes card, but that's a practice one shouldn't have to resort to when your original card worked in the first place.
Very frustrated with this great company. You are capable of much better.
