Cannot update flash player
when I try to update my flash player at 47% downloaded I get error message "cannot contact reliable source" I've been told to uninstall my flash player and try to download the newer version, but the old one works and I am afraid I will still not be able to download the newer one. I keep being asked to download the newer version and keep getting the error, it is maddening. Is there anything short of dynamite that will move this to a level at which something useful happens?
Your security system is aptly named. Primarily because it's "F'd".

My recommendation? Dump F-secure. Get AVG. It's far less invasive and it WON'T TRY TO "PROTECT" YOU FROM THINGS YOU NEED.

Cannot update Flash player on Mavericks or Yosemite?
I have tried to update Flash Player on my MacBook Pro for both Mavericks and Yosemite, but it always gives me this message:
How can I successfully install flash player? As I have stated previously, this does not work. There is no tool to uncompress the plugin inside the bundle. Installation fails on Yosemite every time, no matter what installer is used.
Please read this thread to examine my findings. -
Cannot update Flash Player 16 to MacBook Pro 10.8
I have all of the prerequisites for updating Adobe Flash Player 16 onto my MacBook Pro 10.8.5. After WEEKS of trying every so-called "solution" I could find, I am still unable to complete the update. I have now solved the sign-in problem, I can "initialize" the process, I can locate the Installer in my Downloads folder, I respond "yes" to the download, I type in my password when prompted in the box about "wanting changes", then click "ok", but I can get no further: the box simply jiggles back and forth. Every "help" prompt sends me back through the same series of "solutions" I have tried again and again. I am not the most sophisticated computer-user, but I can follow clear instructions. I really do not respect a company which does not have a way for a customer to directly contact them when he/she has reached a deadend over and over. This problem is not just about my installing Adobe; I cannot use Weightwatchers, Instagram, You tube, and several other web functions without the update. Please help!
It sounds like the password you're entering is being rejected.
This password prompt is presented by your operating system, and is intended to keep you from accidentally installing software.
If this is your personal machine and you don't need a password to log into the computer when it first starts up, you can probably leave the password blank and click OK to get past this prompt. If this is your personal machine and your normal password isn't working, check to make sure that CAPS LOCK is off, and type the password carefully.
If this is your work machine and it's asking for an Administrator password, well, you'll need to have a conversation with your friendly IT person.
If you're still stumped, you may need to reset the password on your Mac:

Cannot update Flash Player from version 14
I'm unable of updating or removing Flash Player 14 from my computer. I have installed version 16 aswell, but swf files still run in version 14. In Flash Professional, I am unable to export HTML wrappers to other flash versions than 14.
I cannot find it at the list of installed applications either. This is really frustrating as I suspect my applications would perform better in newer versions.Local swf files use the standalone player (Projected), not the Flash Player plugin.
You can download the latest Projector from https://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
Note that the download is the player, not an installer, so you need to make the file association manually. -
Windows 7 (64-bit) I.E. Cannot up-date flash player, says I do not have permissions, need to be logged in as administrator. I am the only user of this computer, I am the administrator and am logged in as administrator. Don't know how to fix this.
Download the offline installer from http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html#mai n-pars_header and save it to disk, then right-click on the downloaded installer and select Run as Administrator.

Cannot update Flash Player plugin

# I have the latest Firefox 13.0.1. I just updated it 10 minutes ago.
# I go to Add-ons Manager > Plugins > Check to see if your plugins are up to date.
# It tells me I have Shockwave Flash 11.3 r300, an outdated version. I click the yellow Update button.
# This takes me to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/. It says, "Your system: Windows 64-bit , English, Firefox." This is correct.
# I download the Flash Player exe.
# I close Firefox.
# I run the Flash Player exe.
# In the dialog box that pops up, I select "Let Adobe automatically install updates."
# The Flash Player exe then downloads and installs Adobe Flash Player 11.
# I receive a notice at the end of installation, "Installation Complete" with a little green check mark.
# I restart Firefox.
# That Adobe page at http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/completion/aih/?exitcode=0 automatically opens. It says, "Installation Successful. You are now running Adobe Flash Player"
# I go to Add-ons Manager > Plugins > Check to see if your plugins are up to date.
# It tells me I have Shockwave Flash 11.3 r300, an outdated version.I went to the link cor-el posted and found a Flash Player uninstaller. I completely uninstalled Flash and then reinstalled it. Ta da, version 11.3.300.265!
Thanks a lot, guys, for your help! :) -

Cannot install Flash Player in Windows 8.1
Tried to install Flash Player in Windows 8.1 (32 bit). Used all the instructions; i.e, disable saftey, enable scripting, etc. An install box says Update KB2934802 is already installed. Searched computer for KB.....02 and Flash Player. Says none exist. Any suggestions?
Ever since Windows 8, Flash Player for Internet Explorer is written by Adobe ONLY. It's embedded by Microsoft, and you cannot:
- Update it
- Download it
- Install it
- Reinstall it
from here. You MUST update Flash Player ActiveX (for Internet Explorer) through Windows update. But... Using Windows 8.1 means you were forced to update to IE11, which has it's own problems and they can be summed up in three words...
"User-Agent Strings"
That doesn't mean a lot, I'm sure, but it's the root of your problems, and Flash Player has nothing to do with it.
Microsoft "rewrote" the User-Agent Strings for the abomination they call their latest and greatest browser. User-Agent Strings are what websites use to identify the browser you're using and provide the proper content for it's browser engine, like ActiveX stuff, and Flash or HTML5 video. Thanks to the geniuses in Redmond, WA, the User-Agent Strings for IE11 (which has a Trident engine), ID it as either "Gecko" (Firefox) or "Webkit" (Chrome). Problem is: when the site the directs to the content for one of these two engines, the Trident engine in IE can't intepret it and the site then sees IE as an "unidentified" browser.
The problem with an unidentified browser is that the plug-ins in that browser aren't recognized either, so even though you're up to date, it says you need the latest Flash Player when you use IE11. YouTube... has converted to HTML5 video so if it doesn't detect Flash Player, it can display HTML5 (MP4) video which requires no plug-in to play. Facebook can't do that, because HTML5 doesn't apply to games... only video.
Microsoft has no plans to "fix" the mess thay've created because they think it's a great idea to block you out of the websites you visit.
They recommend using "Compatibility View" and pretending that you're using an older verison of IE... Problem with that is that it's seen limited success, and you have to enable it for EVERY page that has problems... individually.
The REAL solution, like the original problem can also be summed up in three words:
"Use another browser"
Firefox (from Mozilla)
Opera (from Opera)
Safari (from Apple)
Chrome (from Google)
ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in. -
Hello,
After a Mac update, flash player (along with silverlight) asked to be installed when I tried to watch video content or play games. I installed flash player and it reports being successful and appears in my applications. However, I cannot watch videos or play games, every time I am asked to install flash player again and again and again. I suspect this has something to do with plugins but I am not sure. I have un-installed the program and reinstalled but it still will not work. I check my security settings and it does allow plugins. I erased my temporary internet files. I don't know what else to do. Any help would be appreciated! This is incredibly frustrating. Thank youThank you for responding! I am using a macbook pro 2011, 2.2ghz, intel
core i7, 16gb - version 10.9.5. I have not intentionally installed any ad
blocking software; intact I am inundated with it most times. My online
school work required that I disable pop up blockers and all was well until
an update a few weeks ago for both security and operating system. To the
best of my knowledge I am allowing pop ups and plugins but this may be
where the trouble is. I am unsure, honestly of what security is running
besides what I find in the system preference/security tab. Thank you again
for responding and any help is most appreciated.

I cannot get Flash Player to install on my Mac
I cannot get Flash Player to install on my Mac Air. I have repeatedly confirmed that I meet the system requirements and installed and uninstalled the software. It always fails at 51% installation and give me and alert that says Install Error. Please help!
MAC OS 10.8.5
Safari 6.1
Firefox 26.0
Just performed the update to FP12 on my iMac. Worked perfectly.
MAC OS 10.6.8
Safari 5.1.10
Firefox 26.0
It appears the problem is with the newer OS..."Allllllllrighty then!" as "Ace Ventura" said....
The problem ISN'T with Flash Player...
If you remember back in September, when Apple released the 10.8.5 update, shortly thereafter... you no doubt discovered a file named "mach_kernel" was in your Mac HD directory. And... unaware of what it was, you deleted it.
That (mach_kernel) is a base file of OS X and Apple screwed up the update and made it "visible" when it's supposed to be hidden.
Hundreds of thousands of unsuspecting Mac Users worldwide deleted it and it'll make things worse as time goes by.
YOU'RE in luck, though. I have a fix.
If you have a TIme Machine and use the "Secrets" pereference pane to reveal "hidden files", you can restore it from a "pre 10.8.5" backup.
If not, I have a "fresh" mach_kernel file you can download.
You'll need to download and install the Secrets prefpane. It'll then be in your System Preferences.
Make sure you have it set to "show hidden files"
Check the box and you have to restart Finder
Press "Quit This" and then go to the Finder Dock icon and right click it
Select "Open"
Open your TIme Machine
Go back to September 28 or earlier.
You'll see the mach_kernel file in the Mac HD directory
(I can't show it in the TM because screenshots don't work while it's open but here it is in my MAc HD)
Right click it and select "Restore to"
Then, when it goes back to Finder, choose the Mac HD directory and click OK.
It will place the mach_kernel back where it was and you can install software again
DON'T FORGET to go back and hide your files (and restart Finder) again, or you'll have a mess with the clutter of hidden files everywhere.
IF you don't have the Time Machine...
WITH hidden files shown, download this file (mach_kernel.zip)
Move it to your Mac HD directory and THEN unzip it with Stuffit Expander or TheUnarchiver, whichever you use (most people have Stuffit).
You should see the mach_kernel file there.
You can delete the zip file, and then go back to Secrets in your System Preferences, and uncheck Show Hidden Files.
Restart Finder and it'll be safely hidden again.
THEN you can install Flash Player and other software without the "General Installation Error". -

Where does that "error" lead you to download? Anywhere else than an adobe.com or macromedia.com website is not an Adobe update. -
