Cannot update iOS on original iPad 2

My husband purchased and set up my iPad 2 under his Apple ID. The iOS is 4.3.5-original- and needs updated badly. I want to do it under my own ID. Please help!

Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Content & Settings
This will set it up as new out of the box.

The option to update without the computer (Over the air) was made available with iOS 5. If your iDevice is using a version of iOS lower than 5, you will need to use iTunes on your syncing computer to perform the upgrade. Use the Apple link below as a guide for the upgrade.

Also read the instructions from the section entitled "Update your device using iTunes" at the link below.

I'm having the same problem with my ipad w/ retina display. Updated to 7.0.4 on Thursday or Friday and since last night been experiencing blue screen and random restarts.
Until recently it seemed to be linked only to the 'clash of clans' app, but now it is happening on the App Store too.
I contacted apple this morning, after an unsuccessful attempt at complete restore and set up as new ipad. They advised to restore a pervious back up and delete the clash of clans game. Did this, and now I'm getting problems elsewhere which suggests it isn't a compatibility issue with the OS and game.
Also in the same boat as you as I got it on November 2nd, launch day, and out of warranty by 2 weeks. Hopefully they can sort this either by fixing a bug in the OS or repairing my device as it's served me well with no issues for the past 12 months.

  • Downloaded audio book on my iphone does not appear in itunes library and i cannot update iOS without transfering it to library

Downloaded audio book to my iphone does not appear in my itunes library and i cannot update iOS without transfering it to library

You should be able to copy it over to your computer's iTunes via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases.
Audiobooks are a one-time only download from the store, so you may want to take a backup copy of it when you've copied it over to your computer

  • Updated iOS on my iPad 2 and lost FaceTime.

Updated iOS on my iPad 2 and lost FaceTime.  No icon, nothing in a search, nothing in settings.  What should I do to get it back?

First I would try a soft reset by holding the Home Button and the Wake/Sleep button until the apple logo appears.
That often works when things go crazy.
    or
Assuming you backed up your iPad just before updating, you could always restore to the previous state it was in.

  • 1st Gen iPad - Cannot Update iOS......

My iPad was last updated over 2 years ago, its still on 5.1.1. When ever I ask it to check for updates, it looks for a minute then comes back and says it is up to date with 5.1.1.
Last night I backed it up, and reset the settings, after reloading the WiFi info I checked for an update and still the same results.
Any ideas how I can get it to update?
    Thanks!

What iPad model do you have? If you have the original iPad you cannot go higher than iOS 5.1.1. If you have an iPad 2 or later try updating the iTunes on your computer to the most recent version which is iTunes 11.1. Then try updating your iPad while connected to iTunes.

  • HT4623 I cannot see sw update button in general section, pls help how to update iOS in my iPad 2

Hi I want to upgrade my iOS to 5 in my ipad2 but I cannot see nay upgrade button in the setting section.pls help how to upgrade my iOS now

The Settings > General > Software Update option only appears when you have iOS 5+ installed, as you have iOS 4 you can only update to iOS 7 (that is the only version that you can update to) via your computer's iTunes, as described half-way down the page that you posted from. You will need the current version of iTunes on your computer : http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad via File > Devices > Back Up
Then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand sidebar, and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button
    Updating to iOS 5+ : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972
If you do update you can't then uninstall it

  • Cannot update IOS beyond 5.1 in iPad 1, why??

I have an iPad 1 that I have had since introduction.  Now I find I cannot update the ios beyond 5.1.  This limits the apps I can add, very frustrating.  The product works fine and I have faith in it , so why doesn't Apple?  Cheap attempt to get one to upgrade.
Come on, Apple, the IOS is free anyway.  Is this an admission that your wonderful product(s) have built-in obsolescence?

First, let me make crystal clear I am not speaking for Apple.  I am just an Apple user.
I cannot believe you would make such a comment.  The iOS does not have a specific charge passed directly on to consumers, but obviously it is far from "free" as Apple has to dedicate considerable time and resources to generate, test, distribute, etc. each iOS version.
Do you really think the earliest versions of all technical products should support the most current versions of all operating systems?  Should the Apple Lisa support Mavericks?  I don't think so.

  • Is ios 5.1.1 the latest update for my original ipad

Many of the latest apps require ios 6 or newer but everytime I check to see if the later versions are available all I get is my ipad is up to date version ios 5.1.1.
Is this it for the original ipad are we being forced to get newer gadgets in order for new apps to work?

Yes, 5.1.1 is the last version for the iPad 1.

  • Is there a software update for my original ipad?

On my original Ipad I am not seeing an update to IOS7 and it keeps saying 5.1.1 is the current softaware. is there an update available? Why won't my Ipad recognize it if there is one??

As there are 100,000 of Ipad 1 still out there running, could Apple pls just tell us they are toast.
I got the run around at the Apple Store telling me just erase my Apps and then go download versions for 5.1.1.
I have yet to find an App that gives the choice to download anything other than a version for IOS 7.0.

  • Update iOS on Original iPhone

I have an un-activated Original iPhone that was replaced by my 3GS. I'd like to update the old model to iOS 3.1.3 (which, IIRC, was the last version to work on the Original iPhone) before I pass it on to someone else.
Can I just hook it up to iTunes and click on Restore to Default? I plan on using my G4 iMac running Tiger and iTunes 9 so as to not mess up the settings on my main iMac.

    What is confusing you?
You can use the iphone as an ipod:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3406
You CANNOT update or restore without the SIM in the iphone that was previously active or an active SIM.
    From the article above:
"To continue using your original iPhone without active cellular service, leave the inactive SIM card in place. You will be able to use the iPhone as you would an iPod touch (Wi-Fi only, no cellular service) as long as you keep the SIM with which it was last used, even if you update or restore the operating system of the original iPhone."
