"Cannot update iPod because the selected playlists no longer exist"

That is an error message I'm now getting. My iPod is erased but iTunes works fine. How do I fix this? (I've already restored all settings, updated, software, etc.)

I have an old apple ID # that I used to purshase hundreds of dollars of I-Tunes.  Unfortunately I cannot reset the PW because the email account no longer exists so when it says it is sending information to reset PW to email account it is going nowhere.  How am I able to reset the PW.  Also, when it asks for my birthdate in order to reset it that way I use the birthdates of everyone in my family and not one works.  Please help.

Try contacting iTunes store support: http://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html.

I created a new apple id because the previous one no longer exists as an email (domain had to be cancelled). I keep seeing the old one pop up in my iPhone for which I don't remember the password. How can I get rid of it??? Or how can I reset the password if the email doesn't exist??? I also tried answering a question (my date of birth) but it says it's wrong.
I'm really frustrated with the apple id!!!
    Frustrated!!!

In one of the help pages for managing your Apple ID (http://support.apple.com/kb/HE40), it shows two separate sections, one for Apple ID and one for Primary Email address. When I go to manage my Apple ID, I see only a single section for both. Can the two be 'separated', especially when you face the situation of having to discontinue your email address for some reason?
I also noticed that when navigating to Apple ID Support Communities, it shows my nickname 'dishdy'. How and when did I insert this? In the current sequence for creating an Apple ID I don't see this. In my current profile I don't see this.
In any case, I have freed myself from my previous Apple ID (@artemis.it) on my iPhone.
    Thanks for your help.

  • I cannot run iPhoto after update to Yosemite.  I cannot update iPhoto because the application store does not have any iPhoto update available.  Anyone can advice how to overcome this hassle?

After update to Yosemite 10.10.3 the iPhoto program icon is banned and there is an error message that an update is required to run iPhoto, but the application store shows a message that iPhoto does not have any update available at this time.  There is not even any iPhoto program available on the application store.  Any suggestion on how to solve this annoyance?

Unfortunately, Apple has removed both iPhoto and Aperture from the Mac App Store so they cannot be downloaded anymore. This means you are forced to migrate to Photos (included in OS X 10.10.3) or, if this app does not include features you need, look for a different app.
Not true. Apple has removed both Apps from App Store so you cannot buy them anymore. But if you have any of these Apps already purchased in the past, then you can still download them on your Mac.

Open App Store, sign in with your Apple ID and go to Purchases tab. If you see iPhoto app listed there close down the App Store and do this steps as this is what worked for me:
Open Finder and go to Applications folder.
    Locate iPhoto app
Drag iPhoto app from your Applications folder to Trash (NOTE: Do not emptied Trash yet)
Open App Store app and navigate to Purchases tab.
Click on Install button which is next to the iPhoto app (on the right hand side).
Once iPhoto is downloaded again, test it if its working for you. If all is ok, you can remove your Trash.

  • Cannot update ipod because it contains files in use by another application!

I recently upgraded from a powerbook g4 to an imac 20" C2D. Ever since I put my 5th gen ipod onto it it will give me that error every time i connect it or try to update it. I've tried restoring it and that doesn't fix it.
anyone seen this issue or have a solution?
    Thanks a ton!

If you're talking about when syncing your iPod (as opposed to actually trying to update its software), then I've been getting this, or a similar message, sporadically ever since (I think) updating to iTunes 7, however it doesn't actually seem to stop songs (or photos) being copied across correctly, as far as I can tell - is your iPod actually not syncing correctly ?
Sometimes I get the message immediately the iPod mounts, and sometimes when it appears to have finished syncing, and it doesn't always occur. I've wondered whether it's actually being produced outside of iTunes by a Finder transaction for instance (my iPod is set for file usage as well), since as I say, I don't think I've ever noticed it not actually syncing as expected.
It's irritating though; and clearly a bug. Can't pin the circumstances down enough to be able to even think about a solution, and up until spotting your post hadn't bothered to raise the issue anywhere. But as I say, the message I'm getting isn't actually interfering with my iPod use.

  • Cannot update iPod because I don't have permission

I can download updates to iTunes on my computer, but when I attempt to download updates to my iPod as prompted iTunes tells me I do not have permission to access the requested resource. I am signed into iTunes, so why will it not give me access to the resources and what do I need to do to correct it.

Yes, I am the administrator on this computer. I have tried this with all of my security software disabled and my popup blocker turned off (if that makes any difference!) Thanks.

  • Cannot update apps because the store is 'temporarily unavailable'

I just seem to have found another (but different) app store error.
The indicator on my iPhone says I have one app to update but when I go to the store on my phone it says one of to things, either the store is temporarily unavailable or that it couldn't connect to the store. However I can still browse other parts of the store (charts, search, featured etc.).
Tellingly once in the app store the 'update' button doesn't have the usual indicator on it telling me there is an app to update. Anyone had this problem? Is this a temporary server side issue?
    Thanks,
    Adam

This is happening to me. Here's what's going on.
I open the App Store on my iPhone 3G. I can browse apps via any of the "Tabs" at the bottom of the screen. However, when I click the "Update" tab, the "Loading..." message appears and then quickly after that I get a message that states: "The iTunes store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."
I know this this is not true because:
    1) I can browse the store via the other tabs and through iTunes on my comptuer 2) my friend who sits next to me at work, and who also has an iPhone 3G, can get updates. When I just asked him to check, he had updates available which he downloaded and installed without a problem.
This problem has existed for 3 to 4 days now. This is not an issue of the store doing maintenance on their end or something like that. It's a problem on my iPhone.
I have already had to restore this entire phone 2 times. I am not very happy about the prospect of having to do it all again. Please, please, please tell me there is something I can do to fix this without a restore.
I have tried to connect to the store on Edge, 3G, and multiple different Wi-Fi networks (work, home, free wi-fi at a restaurant).
    Thanks!
    Bob

  • "cannot update ipod because another user on your computer is logged in"

Does anyone have any idea why I get this message since no other user is logged in our has access to my computer? I've gotten this message before and eventually it goes away.
I've shutdown, restarted the computer, reopened, changed usb ports on and on. Have I mentioned how sorry I am that I bought an Apple device!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you have fast user switching enbaled? If so disable it, that can be the cause of the problem.

  • Playlists no longer exist for updating??

My playlists on itunes are still listed along with all of the songs that are in them.. i can play the songs from the computer and nothing appears to have changed.... but recently I keep getting a message saying something like " songs cannot be updated because the selected playlists no longer exist" whenever i try to update my ipod and now all of the songs and info on my ipod are gone.
The only odd thing that has happened right before this was that a message came up saying "itunes can automatically create a playlist of songs that it chooses" I accidently agreed and as soon as another playlist was created i deleted it, and ever since i try to update my ipod i keep getting the above statement about the playlists no longer existing. What's the deal?
    Dell   Windows XP

    What's the deal?
It seem like your iTunes Library now exceeds the size of your iPod and iTunes is (unsuccessfully) looking for the playlist that you accidentally deleted
Have a look at this article in the Apple Knowledge Base for some background.
Your best bet is to recreate that playlist, naming it your iPod's name Selection, and put the music you want transferred over in that playlist.
iTunes should be able to take care of things from there.

  • I cannot update itunes because system cannot find the data itunes64.msi. What can I do?

I cannot update itunes because the latest version cannot be deleted (system is looking for itunes64.msi and cannot find). Update is going reverse. I tried to install the full version, but there is the same problem. What can I do?
When I try to deinstall the old version by windows, the same problem

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

I'm getting this message "The iPod “Sage’s iPod Touch” cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.6.3 or later. " But cannot update iTunes because my OS is 10.5.8.  How do I use my iPod with my iTunes?

Solved.  Not sure what I finally clicked on on Apple.com but found iTunes 10.6.3 and was able to download that for free and now my iPod can sync.

  • I'm suddenly unable to sync my iPod because the playlists no longer exist.

I plugged my ipod in like normal, and when I hit the button to sync it, it said that "songs on the ipod cannot be synced because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist".
when i unplugged my ipod, all of the songs were gone, but they were still in the itunes library on the computer.
    please help!

You get this problem when the option 'Sync Music - Selected playlists' is being used to sync your iPod. If the playlist selected is deleted from iTunes the iPod no longer has a location to sync from and you get an error. (Syncing selected playlists by the way is a useful setting to use when the iPod is smaller than the iTunes library). However you can make a new one or make use of an existing one.
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -My iPod for example (the dash will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources). You can make it a smart playlist that picks the songs for you or just a normal one and drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod (for example 3700MB for a 4G iPod Nano. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
    Syncing Music to iPod
To make a random playlist go to File>New Smart Playlist.
    Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Limit to" put "3700" in the number box, choose "MB" from the first list box, choose "Random" from the next list box. Check "Live Updating"
When you want to change the selection in the smart playlist just delete everything in it and it will add a new selection. When you want to change the normal playlist just delete out what you don't want and drag in a new selection.
