Cannot update iTunes after upgrading to Lion

After installing Lion on two machines - a new MacBook Pro and a year old iMac - I get a 'The update “iTunes” can’t be installed' 'An unexpected error has occurred'. When trying to update iTunes. The error happens during the Cleaning Up step.

I also have this exact same problem.
I am afraid to remove my current version of iTunes in order to install the new one because I feel I won't be able to reinstall it again if anything goes wrong.

  • Cannot open iTunes after upgrade due to missing .dll file

I cannot open iTunes after a recent upgrade.
The error is "Applepushservice.dll is missing.  Please reinstall iTunes."  Which I have now done 8 times.
I have uninstalled everything, clear the cache and rebooted.
Now what?  Can I download the file from somewhere else and if so, where do I install it?
    Many thanks.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • Cannot open iTunes after upgrading to 7.3.1

Just traded my mini for a nano and upgraded from iTunes 6. I was able to install 7.3.1 (Windows XP) and sync the ipod so all of my music is on it, no problems. But after I closed iTunes after the syncing I can't re-open iTunes at all-- I get the message:
'The iTunes Library.itl file cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the iTunes folder in the “My Music” folder'
    Please help!! Thanks.

+HOWEVER, once my library finished loading into iTunes, another error message came up:+
+The iTunes library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-1302).+
Okay. It's sounding like there was some problem with the original library file (that you had for the previous version) that has been preventing the library update from going through properly. That would fit with the non-appearance of the new .itl file with the upgrade, and the problems with generating a new library file from the old version of the library file.
So it might be worth trying a library recreation at this point in time. For instructions on that, the following document should be of some assistance.
How to recreate your iTunes Library
After the library recreation, does itunes launch properly? (without the 1302 we got from the attempt to revitalise the old library file?)

  • Software update hangs after upgrading to Lion

Just recently upgraded to Lion, mostly without any glitches but upon starting up iTunes I was presented with a dialog box indicating that the version of iTunes was "too new" (I think) and suggested I used Software Update to install a Lion compatible one. So I did. Went to Software Update and clicked on "Check Now" and waited. Task bar moved from left to right to indicate activity and progress but then it stopped at about 4/5 of the way to completion. And that's where it stayed! Canceled and tried again but same outcome. Rebooted and tried again, same outcome. Downloaded and installed the Lion friendly version of iTunes which installed ok, tried Software Update. Same outcome. Anybody out there have the same problem? A solution? Would be great to here from anyone who can help.

Me too. I'm running a mid-2010 Mac Mini with 8GB RAM.
The first couple of times when I tried using the Software Update app, I coudn't get the download to begin; after I clicked the Agree button, the dialog box closed, but the download never started. The Software Update app was still running, just not doing anything. I'd close the app and tray again with the same results.
Today I tried and the download did download and started to install. When it reach the 'Registering components' stage near the end, it appeared to hang at around 98% complete.
Because I was doing onther stuff on my computer, I let it sit there for about 40 minutes. Then, all of a sudden, it finished the install. I've opened iTunes and the 'About' box tells me I'm running iTunes 10 .4 (80) 64-bit.
So, try again and be patient.

  • I cannot update apps after upgrading to Yosemite. Please Help!

    Hello,
After upgrading to Yosemite, i wanted to go on to iMovie, but i have to update. So i try to update but it refuses and tells me: "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled."
So what i understand is because i bought this mac in the US and I'm using it in the UK its not letting me update it. But what i don't understand is that i was able to upgrade to Yosemite with my mac knowing i was in the UK.
How can i update my applications?
    Thank you for your time,
    TOAOMA

Perform the following, stopping with the first one which works:
    1. Open the Mac App Store's Purchases tab. If you're prompted to accept it and the other iLife/iWork applications into your Apple ID, do so.
    2. Move them out of the Applications folder(they may need to be put into the Trash temporarily), and then see if you can download them for free from their individual product pages. If you're asked to buy them, see #3.
    3. Click here, contact Apple, and wait for a response.
    4. Buy them.

  • How do I restore iTunes after upgrading to Lion?

Upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion and, in the process, appear to have lost access to my iTunes.  After the upgrade, when I clicked on the iTunes icon, I was then asked if I wanted to "install iTunes!"  I have found folders that appear to contain the contents, but really don't want to re-build my iTunes from scratch.
How can I reclaim my iTunes??  Great thanks in advance!

    This is getting confusing.
First, there is iTunes the application.  That should open no matter what, even if it opens to a blank library.
Second, there are all the library contents (what's in your iTunes folder) which should also open when you start iTunes and present you with what you're used to seeing.
It seems to me that it is your application that isn't starting (and so the comment about replacing with your backup doesn't apply).  Is this correct?  If so, I personally don't have the answer since I don't run Lion and don't know it's insallation procedure.  I thought iTunes application was part of the OS for Lion and should be automatically installed.  Maybe you do need to say yes when it asks you if you want to install it.
I am assuming you did a complete backup of your hard drive before upgrading to a new OS, so in case it did actually wipe out your library (which it should not have) you can get all your files back?

  • Cannot send mail after upgrading to Lion

    Can anyone help.
I upgraded to OS X Lion, and since then I cannot send mail from any of my accounts.
Nothing wrong with them. I can access, receive and send with othe Mail programs, as well as from my iPhone and iPad.
I have deleted, and reconfigured my accounts, and no luck.

I am having the exact same problem as Steve Kennedy a few posts back.
"When I press send I watch the fan for a couple of minutes before seeing the error message that invites me to select another server or try later. The outgoing mail server that shows up as being unusable is MobileMe (MobileMe). When I select smtp.me.com, I can send. Sometimes I can even send a couple of messages before the problem returns.
I'm using Lion and Mail 5.0 (1244.2/1244.3) on my iMac (mid-2010) and Verizon FIOS. Never had this problem with Snow Leopard or earlier. Don't have it with my MacPro running Snow Leopard on the home wireless network. Don't have it when using MobileMe mail on the Web, but that's a slow alternative."
I am getting REAL tired of the Lion quirks. <y desktop rearranges itself when it feels like it. Nothing consistent or repeatable. The folders just all appear on the right side and disregard how I have them organized on the desktop. I have set all of the recommended settings to no avail. A mind of it's own.
Help us Apple. Mail is almost unusable.

  • Cannot open iTunes after upgrading it because of computer version

I just upgraded iTunes to the latest version last night and now it will not let me open due to the fact that I have a Mac Os X 10.4.6 and need 10.4.7 to open iTunes. Is there a way to upgrade the Mac Os X without paying money? If not, can I down-grade my iTunes then?
    Thanks a bunch!!

Download any of the compatible updaters from this page or run the Software Update pane of System Preferences. Updating from any Mac OS X 10.4 version to any newer Mac OS X 10.4 version is free.

  • Issues with iTunes after upgrading to Lion OS v10.7

Hello my sabi friends out there,
I just upgrated to Lion OS v10.7, everything seemed to be in order, however, I lost ALL my playlists on iTunes, in addition, some music never transfered to iTunes. I tried to restore iTunes from my last back up, however, after that I am unable to open iTunes. I get the following message: "Check with the developer to make sure that iTunes works with this version of Mac OS. You might need to reinstall the application.....". So I did resintall iTunes 10.6 but I get the same message.
    Please help.
    Thx,

    Try trashing your mail preferences:
    <YOUR NAME>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
After that, it may be a good idea to do a Repair Disk Permissions:
Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility. Select your hard drive in the left pane, click the first aid tab at the top, then click the Repair Disk Permissions button.

  • Troubleshooting itunes after upgrade to Lion 10.7 (Macbook white)

Hi, I have a MacBook (white model 2008). I updated the OS X 10.5.8 to Lion 10.7 . Everything seems ok, except that itunes is not working, the app doesn't even open. A message appears saying that the app is not compatible with the OS X.
I tried to uninstall and reinstall itunes, but the message keeps poping.
Is there anything i can do to use itunes with this OS X?

    Hello AdryZav
Where are you opening iTunes, in the Dock or the Application Folder? Try opening it from the Application Folder or in Launch Pad as the dock may be referring to a previous link that is not the current version.

  • Cannot update iTunes after motherboard change.

iTunes was on D drive.  After MB change, D drive became E drive.  Updates fails since D drive is now the CD player.

Define "update". Do you mean Apple Software Update?
The iTunes application normally installs components in Program Files and Program Files (x86) on 64-bit machines. Those folders are normally inside the system drive, which is typically the same as the boot drive. The iTunes library is normally created at <User's Music>/iTunes. If all content has been stored inside the default media folder of .../iTunes/iTunes Media then the library should be portable and can be operated from any path. Hold down shift as you launch iTunes to get an option to choose or create a library, click choose, and browse to the iTunes Library.itl file inside your iTunes folder. Playlists are all stored inside the .itl file. The library consists of the .itl file, some supporting files in the same folder and the album artwork folder, and all media that has attached to the library.
You can't generally save the playlists independently since iTunes records them with absolute paths which may not work if/when you try to reimport. Moving a potable library around as a unit works. See Make a split library portable for background.

  • Cannot update iPhoto after upgrading to Yosemite

I have a Macbook Pro which I upgraded to Yosemite but now I cannot access iPhoto because it says I need to upgrade. The problem is that it won't let me upgrade because it says that it was either bought by a different user (I am the only user of this computer) or the item was refunded or cancelled. None of these are applicable. What can I do?

In that case you'll need to contact the App Store support personnel via this website:  http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/

I downloaded the latest version of iTunes and ever since, I cannot open the program on my computer. I have tried everything they say to do in the on line support manual. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have sent a few hours on this and nothing they tell me to try is solving the problem.

that's a known complication of a broken QuickTime. in this context, it usually means the installation configuration information of the QuickTime has been compromised.
    here's what we'll try first.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:

once we've got all the existing QuickTime scraped away, let's try another careful standalone QT 7.0.4 reinstall.
does it go through properly this time? if so, does your itunes launch properly again?
