"Cannot Update Library" in Newsstand

Question

I fired up my ipad3 last night and, so far, am 0 for 2 in accessing magazines in the newsstand.
Both Martha Stewart and Bon Apetit give me an error message "Cannot Update Library...An error has occurred."
I have tried redownloading the Martha Stewart Living app, and have had customer support reset my account twice. No dice. Tried powering on and off. Checked store settings, and updated my credit card info on file at Apple. Checked Software Update in setting and it says I'm up-to-date.
Any ideas?
BTW, I'm on my home Apple Time Machine wifi network, Cable DSL. No firewalls. Works fine with every other device.

I seem to have the same problem.
I'll start at the beginning:
I made a book with Adobe InDesign and am making an iBook version.
There seemed to me to be two ways of doing this:
Converting the existing document using Adobe Digital Publishing Suite (regardless of expense),
Re-making the document (I have got all the bits, and am signed up) with Apple iBooks Author.
Before starting on the Adobe way, I thought I'd  have a look at some publications made using it.
Adobe have made available a document that shows what can be done with their Digital Publishing Suite (AdobeDPS_Resource_Guide.pdf).
This document contains links to digital publications made for the iPad and iPhone. I downloaded some to have a look.
When I tried to open these documents, some in the apps space (such as "DPS Tips") and some in the Newstand space (such as "i-mad : Madame Figaro sous toutes ses coutures"), I found that I could not open any of them, either on my iPad or on my iPhone. All I got was the modal error dialog "Cannot Update Library, An error has occurred, OK". Frankly, this is not "OK" at all. Unsurprisinglly,I could not get any sense out of iTunes support, just usual responsibility merry-go-round.
Well, I am based in China. Maybe this is the root of the problem. Yet, the two WiFi connections I use here seem to work perfectly well (for web browsing, Skype etc.). Or maybe it's something completely different. I would really like to get to the bottom of this, because it seems to mean that if I convert my my exising InDesign document, using the Adobe add-on, maybe nobody could read it. But is this an Adobe problem?
Any suggestions gratefully received.
