Cannot update my device Curve 8520

Hi all,
Am having some problems with my phone.
The other day my phone was scrolling in the wrong direction so I took the battery out and put it back in, the phone showed the BlackBerry sign and the progress bar it got just over the half way mark & stopped, I left it like that for about 20minutes to no avail.
I must have taken the battery out about 15-20 times and it still didn't get any further, I called T-Mobile they said to take my phone into a shop.
Well I plugged my phone into my laptop and it switched on after a while, I updated the software on my laptop & then my phone. It deleted my messages, numbers, emails, bbm, facebook & BlackBerry aps. It also stopped me receiving MMS messages & I was unable to view Excel spreadsheets ( I have fixed the Excel issue via Desktop Software installing the app).
It also has changed my sms messages back to the old settings (Not the bubble like) & the keyboard lock is no longer the mute key on the top of the phone.
I've plugged my phone in again and it says I already have the latest updates. (Which clearly I do not).
The version on my handset says:
V4.6.1.314 (Platform V4.2.0.135
I tried to update from the T-Mobile local site via the BlackBerry carrier but I do not know the log in details.
Please please please can someone help me...

You do, for sure, have your BB data plan active and are able to get email, etc.?
That is required for updating to OS 5.0.
If the OS you downloaded is not specifically for the carrier that is branded on the device you will need to install the OS to the computer and then when you're done, delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader.
Then after you delete that, in that same apploader folder, is a file called Loader.exe. Double click that to install the OS to your device.

If you ae getting a network timeout error, disable the computer's antivirus and firewall during hte download and update.

HT4528 First of all I cannot update my device because I do not have enough memory, so I tried to delete some apps and to no avail can I get enough memory! So wondering if I should even update because I do not want to loose everything on my phone.

So I am wondering if it is worth the update if I have to loose everything on my phone ! Secondly one of the apps I deleted is the facebook app and now I tried to put it back on and it will not work! It requries 3 gb to update over the air.
If you connect to iTunes you can backup the phone, then update the phone through iTunes instead, where it doesnt require 3 gb free on the phone.

Cannot Update Blackberry Device

I have Blackberry 8520, the device software version is 4.6.1.314. I have tried update to v5.0. cannot do it, everytime it says my software is up to date. Well the Device software is not.
Can anyone help with this problem.

Well, since you didn't reveal the method of updating that you are using (there are several), I'm going to guess that you ran the desktop software and had it check for updates. That sometimes works, and sometimes not. The best method, IMHO, is to use this process:

While it's written for a "reload" of your OS, it works the same for upgrading or downgrading as well. If you choose to use an OS package that is not for your home carrier, then insert, between steps 1 and 2, the deletion, on your PC, of a file named VENDOR.XML.

Add French language pack to Curve 8520

Dears,
I recently updated my device (Curve 8520) software to version 5.0.0.1036, since then I don't have French in my languages anymore.
When trying to add this with the Desktop Manager, the language is not mentioned in the Application List.
Can someone help me to add the French pack to my device?

the language packs are included in the OS installer. Whatyou need to do is find an OS that contains the french language pack.
You can look at the french carriers (Orange France, Vodafone SFR, Bouygues Telecom) or European carriers (like Vodafone DE or O2).

Sorry you cannot Update your BlackBerry® Curve 8520 to OS 6, It can't handle OS 6 because it lacks memory and the required Harware to run OS6 .

Attempting to update blackberry curve 8520 to version 5.0 bundle 1168 timing out

I am attempting to update my blackberry curve 8520 to version 5.0 bundle 1168. However when it attempts to install it reaches module 386 of 399 it gives a message that an error has occured while downloading software and to check the internet connection. There is nothing wrong with my internet connection. I have tried unistalling all the software ie desktop manager and reinstalling and it makes no difference? help.

Try manually downloading and installing the OS to your computer first. You can do this by searching for your carrier's name in the following link and then simply download the OS installer fir your device. Once you've done that, install the file to your computer and you can then perform the upgrade.

Cant Update BB curve 8520 from 4.6 to 5 OS

I recently tried to update my BB curve 8520 OS v.4.6.1.286 to OS 5 .
I did all these steps.
1) Downloaded 8520wifiM_PBr5.0.0_rel860_PL5.2.0.47_A5.0.0.509_Wind_Hellas
2)Deleted "vendor.xml"
3)And executed LOADER.EXE
I followed all the steps and i couldnt update my OS.
I dont know what else to do i followed all the steps still i failed
Is there any other way to update my OS ???

if you have BB Desktop Manager installed on your computer, you should just have to plug your BB 8520 in and Desktop Manager will automatically tell you that theres an update and give you the option to do it. A data plan is required for OS5 to work. Thats how I did mine and the whole thing took all of 10-15 minutes. Keep in mind though that there are apps that will not reinstall after the update so you'll have to reinstall them, but it will tell you which ones didnt carry over.

No.. you can't update your BlackBerry Curve 8520 to any higher OS other then OS5 , Curve 8520 don't meet those hardware requirement that's required for higher OS.
But if you're having issue with your device Software then you can always reload your device OS , to do that you can refer to this KB :

Cannot update software (9300M_PBr6.0.0_rel2342_PL6.6.0.195_A6.0.0.526_Rogers_Wireless_Inc)

Hi all,
I have downloaded this software from the BB site three days back. But I cannot update it on my BB 9300. I have version 5. I have tried out through desktop manager but it shows that there is no update, wherese I have already installed it in my PC and it is shown in Control Panel. I dont have BIS or BES activeted. Is this the reason that I cannot update my device??????

Thanx for the advice.
I have tried both your ways. But neither worked.
First, I opened C drive then program files then common files then research in motion folder. In there I opened apploader folder then I clicked Loader (with a phone icon). Then it shows the available applications, but that doesn't show the new OS.
Second, the BB webpage has the update site. I clicked on OS 6 then clicked Update, then it took me to http://in.blackberry.com/update there I selected my phone i.e 9300 and it showd upgrade to OS 6. but when I clicked that it again takes me back to http://in.blackberry.com/services/blackberry6/update.jsp and it continues in circle......
I am really puzzled what to do. The desktop manager tells me that the upgrade version is available but is for only for active blackberry subcribers. Now what does Blackberry subscription means??

Cannot open transferred .doc files on my BB Curve 8520

I am a new user and have just bought a BB Curve 8520. Carrier is Virgin Media; OS is V4.6.1.314 (platform 4.2.0.135); Desktop Manager Version is 5.0.1.2.8
I have transferred photos, music and some documents from my PC successfully to my BB using Desktop Manager. However some .doc files transfer, but I cannot open them on the BB. I get an error message saying a file cannot be opened as it is an RTF file. I also notice that when I start to transfer the files, the little window that pops up does not give me the option to convert them - it is grayed out. Help please - I am totally new to Blackberry and not a whiz! Thanks in advance!

You should save the files as true Word documents on your PC first.
WordToGo on your BlackBerry will open MS Word documents.

Curve 8520 will load to homepage but cannot access menu/apps/dialing anything :(

Hey folks,
My Curve 8520 decided to die today
When i try and use it, I view the home page but I cannot access the menu when pressing the BB button, none of the apps work on the task bar, I cant dial numbers and none of the side buttons work. All i can do is move the tracker pad around. When the screen fades out to black, i cant get anything back it stays like that. The red led was flashing as well, but ive had a few messages come through as well now - but it was flashing before.
Ive tried a hard reboot (taking the battery out) a few times, ive even left the battery out for like 5 mins.
Ive tried connecting to bb desktop manager - but when the device is connected and the prompt for mass storage mode comes up it wont let me select yes or no - so desktop manager is never able to recognise it.
please help - the insurance people are rubbish n it could take like 5-6 weeks to get it sorted
