Cannot update or uninstall QuickTime

I am running QuickTime 7.6 in windows 7. I have tried to update it but it fails with an error message : "Error getting file security: C:\Program Data\Apple Computer\Installer Cache\QuickTime 7.60.92.0\GetLastError: 5" every time and reverts back to the installed version. This also causes the iTunes update to fail when it gets to the QuickTime portion. I tried to uninstall it but get the same error. It doesn't matter whether I run "Uninstall" in the QuickTime folder or use the uninstall function in Progtams and Features in the Control Panel (both use the Windows Installer). I then tried to uninstall it in Safe Mode but, since this requires the Windows Installer, it won't run in Safe Mode. Is there some way to get around this?

I have the same problem, did you find a solution?

  • Cannot update or uninstall iTunes due to missing iTunes.msi file

I am trying to update my itunes 10.4.1.10 to the newest version. However, when I try to update or manually uninstall iTunes I get the following error message. I am logged into the admin account and on a wireless network. I've looked for the iTunes.msi folder in my iTunes folders and program folders but cannot find it. Also using Windows Installer CleanUp Utility is no longer an available option since Microsoft is saying that it damages files as well as fix them. Any ideas on what to do???

Also using Windows Installer CleanUp Utility is no longer an available option since Microsoft is saying that it damages files as well as fix them.
Nonetheless, it's the best game in town for this particular kind of trouble. So, just in case, I'll run you through my standard instructions for an itunes.msi variant (just in case).
Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeksare worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp. Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • I cannot update or uninstall iTunes with Windows XP.

I have an older OS (windows XP) and have been trying to update iTunes.  I keep getting a message saying that Bonjour is on another network that I do not have access to.  It then tells me that iTunes.msi is not available either.  Now I am not able to sync my iPod.
I have tried to uninstall iTunes to fix the problem, but I cannot do that either.  I get the same message about this missing Bonjour.  I would really like to update, or at the very least get rid of this version to get the newer iTunes.
If anyone can help me figure out this problem, I would appreciate it more than I can say.
Thank you in advance (especially if there is some simple solution that I have either not seen or tried )

  • Cannot update, reinstall, uninstall 9.3.3 in windows 7 pro 64 bit

Acrobat Reader 9.3.3 will not successfully complete the update to 9.3.4. It complains about not having permission for a key (error 1402). Other forum posts and Adobe knowledge base articles do not supply a solution. When I try to uninstall Reader 9 completely, Windows Explorer crashes and restarts. When I try to install the update manually, it gives Windows installer error 1719. When I try to reinstall 9.3.3, I get a Windows installer error. I can install Acrobat reader 8, but when I update it to 9, and then apply the updates for 9, I get the same errors as before. My search shows I am not the only person having this problem. Does anyone have a solution? Thank you.

Maybe after repeated failed installations for Adobe Reader, your installation may have become corrupt; probably the reason why Windows is unable to uninstall the same from your system.
You can try and uninstall Adobe Reader using Microsofts Cleaner Utility (Its no longer supported by Microsoft):
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
Download the application and install the same. From the installation directory(by default something like C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Installer Clean Up), run the following commands:
    msizap TWA! {AC76BA86-7AD7-1033-7B44-A93000000001}
    msizap GP
Just delete the Reader installation folder  (C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 9.0) afterwards and you should be good to go. Hope this works!!

  • Cannot update or uninstall iTunes

When I try to update iTunes, i receive the following message:
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'itunes64.msi' in the box below.
I also have tried to uninstall from control panel and I recieve the same message.
I am using Windows 7, & I have not been able to use the Windows Clean Installer, as it is no longer available.
Could someone help me figure this out?

  • Cannot update or uninstall iCloud - "files are on a network resource that is unavailable"

I am using Windows 7.  This occurs after the Apple Software Update downloads the update (iCloud for Windows 4.0)  The file size is 29.30MB
I tried to uninstall iCloud and get the same message.
"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable."
It is looking in my user directory AppData\Local\Apple\Apple Software Update\
When I navigated there, I found the file iCloud64.msi and selected it.
I then got a message that the file "is not a valid installation package for the product iCloud.  Try to find the installation package 'iCloud64.msi' in a folder from which you can install iCloud."
Downloaded iCloud Control Panel for Windows 4.0 from another source and got the same error.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • I cannot uninstall Quicktime

Ok, so my iTunes was not working properly, so I decided to uninstall everything. I uninstalled iTunes just fine, but am having a really hard time uninstalling Quicktime. Everytime I try to uninstall the program, it will tell me that an error occured and the task cannot be completed. I tried going to the control panel, and this didn't work, and I tried just reinstalling and this doesn't work either. My quicktime isn't working and I can't get it off my computer. Any suggestions would be so much appreciated...I'm going on vactaion in three weeks and I'd love to have my iTunes up and running so I can update my iPod for my trip.
    Thanks
    JD

Ok, so thank you for your suggestion! I tried using the clean up Utility and it did allow me to uninstall the program, which is great! Now, on to the next issue. I tried reinstalling both quicktime and iTunes. It finally allowed me to reinstall Quicktime without any problems, but as soon as it was installed I went to run it and a Window's box came up that told me that the program encountered an error and needs to close. The same thing happens obviously when I try to open iTunes. So, since the error was immediate after installing the program, I'm guessing there is a glitch in the actual program. SO......I am wondering if maybe an older version of Quicktime may be the solution. Any suggestions? I've had older versions of Quicktime on this computer before and they ran just fine, so I wonder if installing an older version (where do I find one?) would solve the problem
    Ok, thanks in advance

  • Cannot uninstall Quicktime 7.02!!!

    Hi,
I cannot uninstall QuickTime 7.02 from my computer. As a result, I cannot access my itunes, because version 6.0 requires QT 7.03!!
    Please help!!
    Without music!!

QuickTime is a "System" component and it installs hundreds of parts all over the OS.
Safest method to revert to an earlier version is to "Archive and Install" from your original Leopard DVD and then use Software Update to stop just short of 7.6.4.

  • Unable to uninstall QuickTime and Apple Software Update

    HELP US
This is really screwed up. I got the notice to update to 10, ran the update, threw an error about looking for a file, quicktime.msi. Nowhere on my machine. I followed the troubleshooting tips. I am now unable to uninstall Quick Time, still looking for the quicktime.msi. Unable to uninstall the Apple Software Update, looks for applesoftware.msi. I spent 3 months moving my entire music directory to itunes, now I cannot update/add music to my wifes ipod, or my mother in laws ipod, both 8 gig and now I am not sure if I want to get the 32 gig ipod touch. When I try and download version 10, once again it looks for quicktime.msi, cannot find it, fails to install quicktime and of course itunes does noT install. Now what? anybody got a copy of the two .msi's?
Is there anyone out there from apple to help us?

Unfortunately, these sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.

  • Cannot create .wmv files-Quicktime uninstall

I am trying to export to a windows media file but keep getting the error message "Inconsistent Audio Sample Rate". I have tried many of the fixes mentioned but cannot get this resolved. I am currently trying to uninstall Quicktime 7.2 without success. I have 7.1.5 ready to install.
Any suggestions or other thoughts on this issue would be appreciated.

At the moment, your choices seem to be:
Do an "archive and install" which will let you update back to QT 7.1.6, but this messes up your FC Studio install and you'd have to reinstall it.
Watch the FlipForMac forum for news of a fix.
    http://forum.flip4mac.com/forum/messageview.aspx?catid=10&threadid=263&enterthre ad=y
Use this technique to reinstall QT.7.1.6
    http://forum.troikatronix.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=714;guest=354632&t=s earch_engine
You say you have 7.1.5 ready to install.
You need 7.1.6 if you have FC Studio 2
You can still get 7.1.6 here:

  • HELP cannot install itunes, uninstall itunes or uninstall quicktime

Hello - Went to upgrade my orig ver of itunes ver 6.0 to the video version to grab some music videos, and that is when all went to ****.
Got an error message that itunes was unable to install to my PC. PC is p4 running winXP sp2/3.
    Error code: -3
Went to uninstall itunes, and got another error message that itunes was unable to complete the task with NO error code.
Also went to uninstall quicktime, and apparently the uninstall is not on my computer. I reinstalled quicktime, which was successful, but after rebooting and then trying to uninstall quicktime again, i got same error message quicktime uninstall cannot be found, quicktime cannot be uninstalled.
I did manage to get itunes successfully uninstalled.
After reboot and clearing out temp files and cache then again rebooting, then attempting to reinstall itunes VER 6.0 just the plain version for windows, NOT the video version, i again got error message that itunes was unable to install on my PC.
    PLEASE HELP.
i cannot seem to load in a successful ver of itunes to listen to music, nor uninstall/install quicktime.
    FYI -
Quicktime will not work when opened through itunes and through start menu, but will work when opened in the program and actually clicking on the .exe button.
pls help! i just want regular ver of itunes without video now, just want to listen to music what i bought, thnx

YES it is a Windows 98 based software, since i was unable to find older ver of Quicktime, i used what i had.
Incidentally, i figured out that when i went to install the Video ver of itunes, the ver 6.0 did not completely uninstall, some files were somehow corrupted.
There is a round about fix located on the windows tech support section which deleted previous Windows installer programs that in turn deletes older versions of programs, you pick from a list that the program detects, and it will delete all older versions.
Here is the link, if you know anyone that needs it..
it fixed my PC, after using this program i was able to successfully install 1st- the standalone version of quicktime, then itunes without incident.
