Cannot update to iOS 5.0.1 because iPhone cannot restore?

iTunes keeps giving me the error 'The iphone "iPhone" could not be restored. This device isn't eligible for the requested build.'
I have updated everything and nothing is working, my phone is completely stuck in recovery mode and itunes cant do anything about it. I have already tried manually restoring it through itunes and nothing is working. Can I get any solutions?

There's your problem. I don't trust WiFi for firmware updates. Power and hard wire for anything that might result in bricking your system if something goes wrong.
WiFi's fine for getting an app or song update. Who cares if it fails and ruins one?

Typically this indicates a device that has been hacked to be unlocked or jailbroken.
If that is the case, no support can be provided here.

Disable your antivirus and firewall software. Kaspersky is especially bad about interfering with updates.

Probably because the previous owner had the phone hacked to unlock it, and when you updated it locked back to the original carrier.
Only the carrier that the phone is locked to is authorized to unlock it.
If the previous owner had the carrier unlock it, you wouldn't have any issues.

Reset your iPhone. Hold the on/off and home buttons together for about 10 seconds till the Apple logo appears.
If you continue to have issues, try downloading the apps to iTunes on your computer, then sync your iPhone using iTunes.

Unable to update my iOS on my iPad and iPhone.

I am unable to update my iOS on my iPad and iPhone. Though I have had these devices and have been updating for over a year, the issue just started with this new release (iOS 5.1).
When I connect my Pad and Phone to iTunes (Windows PC with Vista), I am told that an update is available. When I update, iTunes tries to connect to a server. Then I receive the message, "There was a problem downloading the software for the iPad. The network connection could nopt be established."
When I try to update the devices iOS using WiFi directly (not connected to iTunes). The devices say, "Checking for Update..." and does not connect. It says, "Unable to check for update...An error occurred while checking for a software update...Cancel or Try Again"

There may be a problem with the SIM card. Get a new SIM card from your carrier - there should be no charge for a replacement.
If no change with a new SIM card, the standard troubleshooting steps in order are:
Power your iPhone off and on.
An iPhone reset, which is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release.
Restore your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup.
Restore your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup.
If no change after any of these steps in order, your iPhone has a hardware problem.

What is the exact text of the message you got? And did you not back up before you updated?

If i try to turn the phone on, it keeps telling me to connect to iTunes. Once I do, it asks me to restore, i click restore, but it keeps on freezing at the screen. What is the problem?
