Cannot update to Itunes 10.6.1

I am trying to update my IPhone 4 to version 5.1, which requires ITunes 10.6.l. When I start the update and get to the Apple Software Update screen, the only item that appears to update is Quiktime 7.7.1 and it is checked. I hit to install 1 item, and then accept for the agreement, nothing happens except the Apple Software Update screen reappears with the Quiktime 7.7.1 checked again. Any ideas?

If you're using XP, go into your Add or Remove programs control panel. Can you see Apple Software Update in the list of programs? if so, select Apple Software Update, click "Change" and then click "Repair".
If you're using Vista or Windows 7, go into your Uninstall a program control panel. Can you see Apple Software Update in the list of programs? If so, select Apple Software Update and click "repair".
Does the repair go through okay? If so, do you get shown the iTunes update in ASU now?

I currently have Leopard, and there are no longer updates for it. So I must upgrade to either Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion. Without doing so I cannot update my itunes, and my ipod is no longer compatile with my mac. How can I buy the upgrade, since I do not have access to the mac store as that comes with Snow Leopard? I went to Best Buy and they said neither Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion can be bought there.

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
Whilst Apple have withdrawn Snow Leopard from their stores, you can still get it from Apple by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE (if you are in the USA) and they will supply the SL DVD for $20 for a single user, or $30 for a family pack that covers up to 5 Macs.  You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion from the same number (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
If you are outside the US call your national Apple Helpline:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
If you're in the UK, use this number: 0871 508 4400
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.
To use iCloud you have to upgrade all the way to Mountain Lion:

  • Cannot update my iTunes to 10.4.1 on my Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit machine

Cannot update my iTunes to 10.4.1 on my Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit machine. Why? It seems like I am not the only one with this problem. Is there a solution? I have tried to download separately without any success.

    Hallo Lucas,
I found a solution for my problem.
Follow the instructions on how to remove iTunes as descripted in the link I posted before (a english version is available).
Additionally I had to remove every appearance of Apple and Apple Computer software from
    c:\users\YourUserName\AppData
Reboot, reinstall latest iTunes and it worked again.
    I hope this helps.

  • What to do when you cannot update to itunes 7.5 because you have win 2000

I updated to IPOD software version 1.2.2 tonight, and now no songs show up on my IPOD, BUT all the songs are showing in Itunes. I do not have Windows XP or Vista, so I cannot update to Itunes 7.5.
    How do I fix this?
    HELP!!!

No, I do not get any error message. Everything appears fine in Itunes, it's just when I disconnect ipod and all songs are missing. Apparently, others have said they update to itunes 7.5 and it fixes it BUT if you don't have Windows XP or Vista, it won't update. So until I figure a way to get IPOD v. 1.2.2 to work with itunes 7.3.2, I cannot see my songs on ipod.

  • I cannot update my itunes account.  when I try to edit information I am getting an error message

cannot update my itunes account.  when I try to edit information I am getting an error message

To everyone that is having this problem:
I just ended a 2 hour session with Apple Tech Support.  We had to take it to a level 2 support person, but finally got it running.  Here's what she had me do.  Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs.  Uninstall ALL Apple products on the Computer.  This inccluded Apple Mobile Device Itunes, Bonjour and Quicktime.  I doubt if we would have had to but she had me download a fresh copy of iTunessetup.exe and run it.  iTunes came up and ran on version 11.1.4.  Then I reinstalled Quicktime.
It is my personal opinion that there is a flaw in version 11.1.4.  You shouldn't have to go through all of these hoops just to update a single application that was working fine proir to the update attempt.
That's what worked for me.  Hope this helps you.  Any questions, get back to me.
    Good Luck.

  • How come I cannot update my iTunes to the latest version?

How come I cannot update my iTunes to the latest version?
Whenever I click the setup icon, nothing happens.
Or when I click "Check for updates" in iTunes, nothing happens too.
Can anyone tell me what's wrong? And what should I do?

    Many thanks.
It seems unlikely that McAfee is causing the damage here. But it may be interpreting the installer damage as indicating an unsafe package. (The damage is causing the file to not be properly digitally signed.)
Perhaps try downloading and saving a copy of the installer to a different PC. (If you're on a 32-bit Windows system, try to download on a different 32-bit Windows system.) Copy the iTunesSetup.exe installer to an external hard-drive, or a large-enough thumb drive or burn it to a CD-R. Carry the installer back to your PC, copy the installer to your hard drive. (Don't run the install from the ExHD, thumb or CD-R.) Start the install by doubleclicking the iTunesSetup.exe file.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities

  • I cannot update/download iTunes v. 11.x.x

I cannot update iTunes through Apple Software Update (nor Quicktime).  I get an error "iTunes (Quicktime) has an invalid signature".  When trying to download from the apple website,  I get "This program is not commonly downloaded and could harm your computer".  I'm running Windows 7 that is current with updates, and have the latest version of Apple Software Update.  I have had problems with updating/downloading anything Apple for a bout a year, but there was always an easy fix.  As of now, there no longer is a quick fix that I can find.  Anybody have anything other than what I have already seen that doesn't work?

    Morning Scotthrpster,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Issues installing iTunes and QuickTime are successfully resolved a majority of the time after completing these troubleshooting steps.

  • I cannot update my iTunes library with new apps.

I bought several apps directly from my iPhone. If I update my iTunes library, I receive a warning that I might lose all my purchased apps. It never happened to me before. HELP!
The picture of my iphone in the iTunes' library looks foggy, as they are not activated to be moved into the library listing.

I've got it to work. If that's the same error you received, then I have to assume you're using Windows 64-bit (as all the people I found with the same problem do). This was what worked for me, courtesy of Shiggity from sevenforums.com -
Go to "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu", right-click "Programs" and select "Properties".
On the Security Tab, Click "Advanced".
Go to the Owner tab, and Click "Edit".
Change the owner to yourself, Check "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects", and Click OK.
And then re-run the installation. Hope that works!

  • Cannot update to iTunes 8.2 - get error message, please help???

I have Windows Vista. When I try to update to iTunes 8.2 (which I need for the new iPhone 3Gs I bought yesterday), I get this error message:
"Errors Occurred while installing the updates. If the problem persists, choose 'Tools > Download Only' and try installing manually"
I've read a lot of the posts and tried 'repairing' the Apple Software Updater, and that doesn't work.
Can someone point me in the right direction?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am in the same boat.
I originally had the same error. So I tried the following unsuccessfully:
    - Download Only, several times and on 2 different computers, one with XP and one with Vista o/s
    - Downloading from the Apple site, several times over the last 3-4 days and each time it gets to a different % downloaded and then stops and after a while returns an error.
    - I've tried uninstalling iTunes and Quicktime
    - I've tried clear the cache, delete all cookies etc.
I upgraded my phone using a friends computer and now I can't connect to iTunes at all as it is not compatible (and the computer I uninstalled it from I can't download it to reinstall.
Not sure what else to try. A friend warned me that iTunes was problematic and frustrating to use, but I bought an iPhone anyway and now understand what they mean!

  • I cannot update to iTunes 11.2.2 (or 11.2.1)

Ever since an attempt to update from iTunes 11.1.5 (I think) to 11.2.1, my updates and installs have all failed -- most recently the 11.2.2 update.  When I try to run iTunes after the failures, I get an 'improperly installed' error (42037, I think).  I have verified my disk numerous times, verified permissions numerous times, tried several times (apparently unsuccessfully) to uninstall iTunes and reinstall it from the 11.2.[1/2] downloads.  It always fails.  The most intense uninstall I tried was following these directions:

Here are a few relevant (I think) lines from my Console install.log:

iTunes 12 requires Mavericks or higher. That means you have to upgrade your OS X version.
    Upgrading to Yosemite
You can upgrade to Yosemite from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Yosemite can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Yosemite
To upgrade to Yosemite you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Yosemite from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Yosemite is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks/Yosemite - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Yosemite
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • Cannot update to iTunes 11.1 !

    Hello all,
I have a problem updating iTunes to the latest version ( 11.1 ). I tried to run the normal update within iTunes which redirected me to the Apple Software Update and  iTunes 11.1 was downloaded but failed to install giving me the error " Errors occurred while installing the updates. If the problem persists, choose Tools > Download Only and try installing manually."
I downloaded the installer from the Apple website http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ , while installing I faced with another error stating
    "Error getting file security:
    C;\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\InternetExplorer\Quick Launch\GetlastError: 87 "
I checked this folder, it's just a bunch of shortcuts...
I'm running on windows Vista 64-bit.
       Any help is highly appreciated!

  • I cannot update my Itunes, apparently there is a problem removing or updating because of an old version of bojour.msi, what can I do to fix this problem?

I have followed all your instructions to uninstall all programs suggested: i tunes, ipod, quick time player, apple software update, apple mobile but the old version of bonjour.msi cannot be located to unistall it, can you help me?

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?
