Cannot Update to Lion - MacBook 2008

I updated to Lion when it was released in July. However, I never updated my 2008 MacBook and am just now doing so. The download from the App Store is failing at the very last minute. Any suggestions?

Does the MacBook meet all the requirements?
Lion System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory
OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
7GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
If it does then keep at it. Be sure your hard drive is in good shape:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
If needs be reinstall Snow Leopard:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
Do the following:
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.

  • Latest CC 2014 Acrobat Security update crashed my Macbook (2008, Lion 10.7.5).

A couple days ago, I was notified by CC that I had a security update for Acrobat. While installing, it crashed my computer. When I restarted, I no longer had the notification, my CC dashboard says its “up-to-date” and there is no record in my history that the program was updated. Has this happened to anyone else? Should I delete the current Acrobat app and reinstall?

Please follow the steps mentioned in CC desktop lists applications as "Up to Date" when not installed

  • Cannot Update IPhone from MacBook Pro

I had to restore the system software on my MacBook Pro the other day, and now MBP finds the 3G, but tells me that "ITunes cannot read the contents of the IPhone", and to go to the summary tab in ITunes preferences to restore the software on the IPhone. When I click the Restore button, I get another message that says "Software for this IPhone is not currently available. Make sure you have the latest version of ITunes and try again". So, I dutifully click on "Check for Updates" in ITunes, and it tells me I have the current version (8.2). I also have a 3G S (32gb) and the problem manifests differently with that IPhone--it doesn't see/find it when I plug it into MBP. What can I do to resolve both (related) issues? Thanks.

  • Cannot update to Lion 10.7.2

My laptop is currently running on  Mac OS X Lion 10.7 (11A511a) and I would like to update to the 10.7.2 version. However, when I download the update and try to install it, it always says the file cannot be opened properly or may have been damaged. The same issue occurs when I want to update other programs like iTunes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Okay; you must have one of the ones that came with a special build - see the information here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1159?viewlocale=en_US
Since it is new, I would absolutely take advantage of the free phone support/warranty and call Apple. Tell them your build number and that you are unable to use Software Update or install the update manually; it could be that it does not recognize your build number.

  • Cannot update to lion 10.7.1

I just recently decided that I wanted to switch over to iCloud until I realized the iCloud icon was missing from System Preferences.
Under the Apple, About it states that my software is Lion 10.7. After researching I see that there have been two updates 10.7.1 and 10.7.2. When I click check for updates, it says there are no new updates for my computer.
How can I update to 10.7.1 or 10.7.2?

If you have a beta version of Lion, you're obviously a developer and you'll get better assistance from the developer's forum.  The following steps assume that you have a legal user version of Lion:
    1. Back up all data, preferably via Time Machine.
    2. Power down.
    3. Hold down the option key and power up.  Release the option key when you see a HD selection.
    4. Choose Recovery HD.
    5. Choose Disk Utility
    6. Repair Disk and Repair Disk Permissions.
    7. Exit Disk Utility and allow system to boot up from your HD.
    8. If problem is solved, stop here.
    9. If problem still exists, repeat steps #1 through #4 above.
    10. Choose Reinstall MacOSX.
    11. Accept all default decisions.
    12. Allow system to reboot from HD.
    13. If problem is solved, stop here.
    14. If problem still exists, repeat steps #1 through #4 and #10 above.
    15. Do not allow information to be reloaded from Time Machine.
    16. Allow system to reboot from HD.
    17. Manually reload all data from Time Machine.  Do not reload any system files.
    18. If problem is solved, stop here.
    19. If problem still exists, call Apple.

  • Cannot Update Mountain Lion

I have an iMac 27" 2.7 Quad Core running OS 10.8.  The App Store says I have 3 available updates, however none of them are for the latest version of os 10.8.  How do I get the latest version of ML from the App Store if it's not showing up on my available updates?  I hope that makes sense.

    Try Here...
    Mountain Lion 10.8.2 Combo Update
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1581
Be sure to Restart your Mac after the successful install
You may also consider doing a Permissions Repair using Disc Utility...
    Followed by a Restart.

    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A for SL retail disks.
Once SL is intalled from retail disks the combo installer should be found to update it to 10.6.8, which install App Store to download Lion.
Is your computer Intel (required for SL)?  If intel is it Core2Duo (required for Lion)?

how can i get upgrade the ios x v 10.5.8? I purchased an iphone 5 but cannot connect with my macbook 5. I cannot update itune 11 as my ios is not up to date

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
OS 10.6 Snow Leopard is once again available from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
but nobody knows for how long it will be available.
To use iCloud you have to upgrade all the way to Mountain Lion:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4759
You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.

I do backup with iCloud.  I can't wait until the new iMac is available so that I can once again have my files in more than 1 location without needing to rely solely on the cloud.
I also rely on iTunes and my MacBook and Time Machine as well as backing up to iCloud. I know many users know have gone totally PC free, but I chose to use iCloud merely as my third backup.
I assume that the restore would result in my ability to open Pages and Numbers and fix the problem with deleting apps, but this would also mean that if my Numbers documents still exist solely within the app and are just not on iCloud for some reason that they would be gone forever.  Is that right?
In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever.

  • I want to update to LION,on my Macbook Pro duo core, (october 2006) because Adobe CC needs at least that. I know my computer is old, but works perfect to me and I do not want to stay in Adobe CS6 since I have access to Adobe Cloud CC. Please help.

I probably dont want to go to Mountain Lion either because I've heard that it will slow down my computer, So, Lion 10.7 will be the perfect OS X for me.
I have ne newest release of Snow Leopard installed and works great.
Thank you ALL for your help.

you will be ok updating to the new software but there will be some trade off. i have 3 macbooks 2006 that are all running the latest versions.
some of the trade off are
    1-2 less of battery life
    slow wake ups from sleep
slower start up time about 30-40 seconds longer then what you have now
the operating system will use high % of your processer while idealing
these are not the things you want to hear about a new os compared to the old one but this is how it is even with a new macbook pro. but it's not the end of the world. just make sure you have at least more then 2GB of ram and have a good harddrive and you will be ok.
