Cannot Upgrade Chinese Lion on MBP

Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to help a user upgrade her MBP. She has Lion 10.7 and I'm trying to update to 10.7.5. Software Update claims there are no updates available and downloading the package from Apple gives me the "This disk doesn't meet requirements.." message. Now, she says she got her computer from an "Apple Store" in China. I know there are counterfeit Apple Stores in China and I am wondering if she has a bogus copy of OSX installed, is there anyway for me to prove this? She also had Windows installed in BootCamp but has no media to be able to reinstall, furthering my suspicions. Anyone have any experience with something like this?

I successfully upgraded my mid-2007 MBP, 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo (Santa Rosa) from SL to Lion.
When you go to purchase Lion (before the transaction takes place), the Mac App Store will actually tell you if your machine is not compatible and will not allow you to purchase Lion.

Yes,that is the sad case, the only option other than a new Mac is to view iCal via Web on the older Mac & manually add changes to your old iCal.

My mac pro is not a duo processor so i cannot upgrade to LION and that means now with icloud i cannot receive email unless i go directly to icloud website to get it. i cannot afford to buy a new laptop, does that mean i will always have this inconvenienc

It's the System which counts rather than the hardware. Your signature says you have 10.6.8. You can migrate your MobileMe account to iCloud at http://me.com/move even with Snow Leopard - when asked to confirm that you have Lion on your Mac, just lie and say 'yes'.
If you have MobileMe mail set up to collect mail from external POP accounts you should cancel this before migrating, or you may find it still working in iCloud (where it isn't supposed to) and with no way of stopping it. You may find the MobileMe email settings will continue to work for a time after migrating but it will stop eventually so you should not rely on this. You should delete your MobileMe email account from Mail.
You can then set up Mail manually in Snow Leopard to access iCloud email; it's a slight fudge because the 'wizard' will attempt to connect you to MobileMe as soon as you enter an @me.com address. The process, which includes a workaround for this, is described here:

You may be able to sync your calendars to iCloud by means of an unsupported hack, and there is a convoluted hack which has been reported as working for Address Book (and as not working by others - I've not tried it), but iCloud's other facilities will not work. Can't upgrade from Lion 10.7.4 to 10.7.5.

I keep trying unsuccessfully to upgraded from Lion 10.7.4 to 10.7.5. I keep getting an error that says to power down and restart after the upgrade. Is there a work around for this? I'm worried that my security updates aren't being done. I also cannot upgrade from Lion to Mountain Lion either. I have successfully restored everything from time machine backup several times. I've tried the MacOSXCombo update with pressing the Option key upon restarting with no success before my first post here (then restored the whole system), but not the Shift key you're speaking of. Do you feel this will make a big difference?

This message, and threads like yours got asked daily for over two years, now it is only a couple times a week!!
Is it so hard to follow through? you were to have backup already, clones are best, then erase/format and restore.
Then partition.
Some have been able to use Disk Utility booted from OS X DVD or another drive, and repair the drive.
You have to use Boot Camp Assistant (99.9% anyway) to create and achieve a proper Windows Master Boot Record partition.

Might be corrupted audio preferences ..
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following;
/Library/Preferences/Audio
Click Go then move both .plist files from the Audio folder to the Trash.
com.apple.audioDeviceSettings.pllist
com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist
Restart your Mac. See if that made a difference ...

Cannot search in Entourage after upgrading to Lion

just upgraded to Lion. Now cannot search in Entourage. Shows "no results found".

This problem just hit me.
I have just spent 3 hours trying every combo of Flash and Java install/uninstall in order to get video on Safari on MBPr with ML. There are various posts on this issues going back thought several OSs.
Flash 10.3 can make it work on Firefox, but that is likely to be a security hazard, acccording to Apple, so was not ideal. I tried everything that I could find on line.
Nothing would make Safari function... then I hit on a simple solution. I keep a clone of my HDD via Carbon Copy Cloner (although Time Machine should work too). I trashed all the /Library/Internet Plugins, and replaced them with those from the clone, which was a couple of days old. I repaired permissions (there were quite a few to do from this), but then... back to normal.

HP says that the drivers for your all in one print/scanner are downloadable from apple. For the scanner to use preview. image capture or the scan icon from the print driver queue. I don't know how old your HP is, but I know that the newer Os from apple don't support a lot of older printers. You might be able find a third party driver that could work.

Since upgrading to Lion, I cannot play QuickTime videos in Safari 5.1.1, not even on Apple's own website?

Upgraded to Lion and now I cannot watch QuickTime videos in Safari 5.1. Did not have this problem in Snow Leopard. QuickTime videos do play in Firefox. I cannot even play QuickTime videos on Apple's own website. Any suggestions? I'm using a Macbook Core 2 Duo.

I have partially solved my problem. I had software installed for a Twelve South BassJump (it improves the sound of your laptop speakers). When I removed that software, I was able to play videos on Apple's website in Safari. The company has beta software available from their website that is supposed to be Lion compatible but when I installed that the problem returned. But even with that software removed I still cannot watch videos on some sites such as Other World Computing.
I just got a new Macbook Pro yesterday with Lion installed from Apple and all video plays fine. So I believe there must be some compatibilty issues with some plug-in. I have Perian and Flip4Mac installed. I removed 3ivx and the problem still remains. I've read conflicting opinions as to Perian being Lion compatible.
Everything works fine in Firefox at this point so at least I have that to fall back on.
Check your system preference pane under "other" and tell me if you have any of the plug-ins I mentioned installed. Maybe we will be able to see a common culprit.

After upgrade to ios 5, my itunes cannot display chinese. All my chinese songs names appear as blocks. Pls advise?

My mbp came with Snow Leopard, I upgraded to Lion, but its not in my purchases now.

I have an early 2011 MBP, it came with Snow Leopard preinstalled. I later upgraded to Lion when it was released. I did a clean wipe on the hard drive and a fresh reinstall of Snow Leopard with the intention of re loading Lion also. It's not showing in my purchases now though, its as if I never bought it. I also upgraded my iMac when Lion came out and am running Lion on it also, but it's not even showing up in purchases on it either. I am logged in to my iTunes account on both.
I figured it out. I went into my account information and under purchases it said I had 1 hidden purchase. Lion was the hidden purchase. No idea why it was like that. It's downloading now though.

Contact the Mac App Store support to get Lion if you need it for compatibility purposes.
