Cannot Upgrade firmware on WRT54g wireless v5 to v6

Get as far as the Administration tab and all from there on is gibberish.  There is NO Firmware Upgrade tab.

Hi, try to disable the firewall on the Pc on through which you
are trying to access the setup page for the linksys router. If that
does not resolve the issue then you can download the Firmware for the
router [wrt54g v5] from www.linksys.com/download and you will also
have to download the TFTP file from ftp.linksys.com/pub/network
When you run this file it will ask for the Sever [192.168.1.1] >
password [admin] and the File would be the wrt54g Firmware file.

  • Cannot upgrade firmware to WRT54G v5

My Linksys WRT54G router has been dropping out lately and I've been recommended to update its firmware as it is very out-of-date. Well, everytime I try to upgrade the firmware to it, I get an error message that says "the connection to the server was reset while the page was loading." I'm trying to upgrade the firmware through the router's site 192.168.1.1 under the adminstration tab. What else can I do to upgrade the firmware as that option is not working?

Before updating the firmware of your router, you will need to download the updated firmware file from homesupport.cisco.com. Firmware files are in .bin format.
    • To prevent upgrade failures make sure that your computer is connected to the router using an Ethernet cable for stable connectivity. Upgrading the firmware wirelessly may cause permanent damage to the router since wireless connection may be unstable during the process.
    • Use a different Internet browser if Internet Explorer doesn’t work or use a different computer to perform the upgrade.
    • To prevent failure disable firewall to ensure that the upgrade will not be disrupted.
    • Make sure that you downloaded the correct firmware and version for your device to prevent technical problems that may damage the router.

  • How to upgrade firmware on 7921g wireless phone from 1.0.2 to 1.0.4 via USB

how to upgrade firmware on 7921g wireless phone from 1.0.2 to 1.0.4 via USB?
The 7921g is connected via USB to a PC. I am using a browser to access the phone. Documentation says "Click the Phone Upgrade hyperlink under SYSTEM options. " but that option is not present or not visible.

You can use the Phone Upgrade area on the web page to upgrade firmware files on the phones by using the USB connection or by using the WLAN. To upgrade the phone software, enter the phone software TAR (firmware file name) or use the Browse button to locate the firmware file on the network.
To display the Phone Upgrade area, access the web page for the phone as described in the Accessing the Configuration Web Page for a Phone section available at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cuipph/7921g/5_0_1/english/administration/guide/21adm50.pdf

  • Upgrade Firmware for WRT54GS V.6

I am new to the wireless world and just purchased the WRT54GS V.6 router and it says I have downloads for this firmware. I have copied so many instructions I don't know where to start first. Can someone give me some advise as to what to do? Thanks for any information!!!

Hi, you seem to know the way around the router, so I hope you help me. I downloaded  the new firmware for v6. and installed it. It call my attention the fact that the firmware started to load slowly, saying that it will restart, and about 40% it congratulate me for the work done, but no restart and after I restarted manually, no wireless!!! Any idea? from the first Easy Link I got a configuration on a pen flash drive, and everytime I restart, I use it, but it is not automatic like it used to be on my older router. Besides the fact that I have to have the computer wired to get it wireless, which is absurd. Thanks if you can help

  • Cannot upgrade firmware on new Zen

So, I've got the new 6gb zen, I have XP SP2, installed wmp, then installed the software that came with the player, got the upgrades from creatives website... went to upgrade the player... "player not connect" - connect player (it charges so IS connected) and nothing.
Done all the usual, uninstalled everything, re-installed it all and nothing has changed.
I cannot see the Zen at all on my PC.
Also I note, creatives knowledge base states "DO NOT connect your player to your PC before setting up the software. "
Where as microsoft website says "If you have a Creative ZEN device, make sure the device has the latest firmware before you install Windows Media Player " So what do I do first If your in cahoots with each other, at least state corresponding advice.
    ANy advice
    Cheers
ps, BIG complaint on having to use windows media!! Why doens't the new Zen come with a complete software package, I bought creative as all their other products had excellent software with the player.... are creative in cahoots with microsoft
I always praised creative on all thier products.... had soo much grief with apple and was happy to come back to creative after 3 years of hell with an ipod, and now creative do this It's unbelievable.

Earlier this week I had the same problem with a used Zen Micro 5GB that I purchased. After hours of the same problem, I finally remembered what I had to do when installing some newer Creative Players earlier this year.
One way is to revert back to Windows Media Player 0 by removing the WMP and the WMP Runtime . Then install the firmware. That's what worked for me this time.
The other method was to revert to WMP 0 (using the above method) and also removing all the Creative software installed on my computer (using add/remove programs), Then the computer recognized the new players. After installation, I was able to put the Creative software back on my computer and everything then worked. At a later date, WMP 0 asked if I wanted to install new updates and without thinking, I clicked yes and then I had WMP back and everything still worked.
Hope this helps you. I found some of the information in the tutorials on the Support page on this site and other information on fixya.com (an Internet site for fixing all sorts of MP3 Players including Creative.)
You know, it shouldn't be this hard to get a player running, as most people buying their first players aren't very computer literate. I remember when purchasing my first Zen Micro several years ago, I was completely snowed as to what to do when I couldn't hear the music on start up. Of course then I locked up the player and spent a long time trying to figure out what happened. I can see why so many people think they got a lemon, and return their players.

  • WISM1 cannot upgrade firmware

    Hello,
I'm having an issue upgrading a Cisco WISM (just a WISM1), we had one of these line cards fail and we got a replacement.  The replacement comes with 2 firmware releases, one of which is the minimum required for compatibility with VSS on a 6500 (which we have.)
Here's the information for the 6506:
Cisco IOS Software, s2t54 Software (s2t54-IPSERVICESK9-M), Version 15.1(1)SY, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2) <<< supports the WISM
The boot images the WLC came with are:
    Primary Boot Image............................... Code 3.2.78.0
Backup Boot Image................................ Code 3.2.171.6 (active) <<< VSS compatibility on a 6500 series switch
(3.2.171.6 is the release which first supports VSS.  As you can see i've made this backup image active.)
I have been attempting to upgrade the firmware image, i've used several tftp servers (on different boxen, all with the host firewall disabled) - Pumpkin 2.7.3, the latest TFTPD32/64 and the latest (10.something, > 32 MB file support was introduced in an earlier release) Solarwinds TFTP server.  Neither of these work, it stops at 32 MB (with the possible exception of Pumpkin there is no question the latter support > 32 MB, I use these products all the time to upload larger IOS images and what-not.)
We're trying to get to 6.0.196.0, after failing I tried 4.2.176.0 as an intermediate upgrade instead but received the same error (below.)
    Here's the debug log:

Again, it appears that the tftp server does not support files > 32 MB (the docs i've read say that this error message is supposed to indicate exactly that), but it 100% *does* support larger files.  What could be causing the transfer to time out?  Is there some limitation on the controller which prevents large files being delivered via TFTP (and if so, is there a way around that?)  Also, there seems to be no other alternative other than TFTP (at least with the release i'm currently stuck at) ... or is there?
    Thanks,
    Jim

  • Cannot upgrade Firmware on Zen Mi

Just bought a Zen Micro yesterday, it came with the .0.03 firmware.
Wanted to upgrade to version 2 firmware because I used WMP and XP. Also would like to be able to drag and drop using windows Explorer.
However everytime I try to upgrade the firmware, the firmware upgrade application on the PC is waiting for the Zen to reboot even if it did. The player formats his dri've, then reboot, then waits forever.
I even unplugged the Zen after 30 minutes... everything is fine on the player, it still has the .0.03 firmware.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Tried to update WRT54G wireless router, upgrade failed, router broken.

I tried to upgrade my new WRT54G wireless router with the new firmware. I got an error message that said "Upgrade are failed". I used the correct version of the firmware for my router (I have a Ver 8). I tried to factory reset, but the router is still broken. Any suggestions on what I could do? The entire page I access via IP is broken. All the text is messed up the the links don't work. I can use the router to access my network, but it will not connect to the Internet at all.

I have no firewalls, and it's for sure not a computer related problem. I have tried on three seperate computers. The upgrade failed, it won't let me access the setup page. I have tried to go onto the Internet since, and it lets me, but 80 percent of all Internet sites don't work. This is what shows up in the router firmware page when I go thru the IP. ýýý†††···ÇÇǶ¶¶¼¼¼öööiiiSSS¿¿¿ÂÂÂßßßààà´´´¯¯¯***^^^uuuAAAllØhhÐééé²²²äää–––ÃÃÃBBBâââmmm¾¾¾DDDWWW˜˜˜“““ìììÎÎÎ LLLaaajjÓyyy ¸¸¸ÝÝÝøøøÉÉÉãããÞÞÞ:::×××ÓÓÓkkk’’’nnn™™™³³³©©©ççç œœœxxx~~~ÁÁÁffÍ```ggÍ CCCiiБ‘‘ ŠŠŠ@@@žžž YYYµµµÐÐЪªª¥¥¥??9èèè___ÆÆƉ‰‰ÜÜÜšššÒÒÒ¨¨¨¡¡¡vvváááØØØÙÙÙƒƒƒTTT$$$ÍÍÍŒŒŒÚÚÚÔÔÔ••• ËËËÅÅÅëë뺺º‚‚‚°°°|||}}}jjÕVVV„„„\\\]]]rrrbbÅ??;ŸŸŸ[[¶»»»[[[%%IGGG???eeË£££íí퇇‡fffooÝOO __¾kkÕGGŽ``Á88oddÇKK•CC†hhÏîîî±±±>>|SS¦77mÛÛÛæææpppÖÖÖ®®®ÈÈÈHH êêê??)ÌÌÌÊÊÊÄÄÄ????:llÙZZ²ŽŽŽWW®99q;;vAA‚ÿÿÿffÌ Message The rest of the pages in the setup menu ether show up blank, or give the same message as above.

  • WRT54G Wireless - Xbox 360

Converting/upgrading router to WRT54G wireless. All PCs working fine with upgrade, but Xbox 360 connects, then fails IP test.
If I remove security from the WRT54G, the Xbox connects completely and just fine, but when I reactivate security--either WEP or WPA security--Xbox no longer receives a valid IP address from DHCP, so I can't connect.
I've entered and reentered the appropriate security password at the Xbox, so it's not simply a typo on the password. I've also reset-to-factory-default and powercycled until I'm practically blue in the face. I've also tried disabling DHCP and setting a fixed IP at the Xbox and disabling UPnP. I've also used the Windows Connect function to download wireless settings from a working PC, as Xbox explicitly recommends in its instructions.
    Help?

Many thanks for the reply. Does it seem as odd to you as it does to me that one should have to go through all that for what Xbox calls a "compatible router"?
In any event, Xbox tech support has done nothing to distinguish themselves in my eyes. Amongst their bad advice: "the Xbox wireless network adapter is bad"; "you're too far away from the router"--both blown away when I successfully connected to Xbox Live via my neighbor's unsecured router located much further away than my router.
Anyway, I devised the following work-around: knowing that my Xbox 360 connected fine to Xbox Live with my router unsecured, I kept the security off and opted for MAC address wireless filtering, which lets only specified MAC addresses connect to the router. As soon as I entered the Xbox 360's MAC address and saved the settings, we could connect to Xbox Live without any hesitation. I of course had to track down all the MAC addresses for our other devices, but once that was done, everything seems to be fine.
Now, the trick is never to do anything that will change any device's MAC address...
Again, this is a work-around, not a solution to the problem of why the secured WRT54G was failing to recognize the Xbox 360 under either WEP or WPA-Personal.

Any suggestions on what I should do to solve this issue?
I noticed when I goto 192.168.1.1 my firmware version is Firmware Version: v3.03.9 does that have anything to do with it? Is there a more up-to-date version that will help?
    Hope to hear from someone.

Eventually it will all of a sudden show up and connect and start working, then if you laeave your computer in standby movde overnight, it will still work in the morning, but if you shut down comeplety you will lose the connection for who knows how long. what is the fix Linksys?

  • Can't Upgrade Firmware in Officejet 8000 Wireless Printer

I've been using this HP 8000 Officejet wirelss with a single usb connection without any issues at all. I set up a two computer wireless network with this printer also being wireless several days ago. No issues at all with the setup. The printer worked fine with test prints, etc. After several hours though I found the printer would loose connection as far as being able to print. It shows up as an avaialble printer, but will not print. A complete powerdown of the printer is necessary to get it working again. This would happen about every 2 to 3 hours. So I tried connecting the printer to the router with an ethernet cable. The problem is not as frequent now, but still happens. The firmware of this printer is 0842BR. There is a firmware upgrade for this particular printer which is supposed to fix issues with network connectivity plus a few other things. I cannot get this firmware upgrade to work with either Windows XP or Windows 7. In XP I get the error message: Firmware Download Utility has encountered a problem and needs to close. In Windows 7 if I just run the file, it extracts to about 47% and then just disappears. If I try to run it in compatibility mode, it says there is a problem with the file.
Can anyone please help me with getting the firmware upgraded, or does anyone have any suggesting on getting this printer to work reliabily on a network. I havee another Officejet Pro 8000 wireless at home on my home wireless network and it works perfectly. It has different firmware though. Thank you for your help!

I had similar problems trying to install the firmware from two different PC's running Windows 7-32-bit and Windows 7-64 bit.
I had an older system with a clean install of Windows XP SP3 that this Printer had never been connected to.
I downloaded and installed the latest "Basic" Printer Driver as well as the Firmware Upgrade to that PC.
I powered off the printer and disconnected and reconnected the AC power supply to assure a clean power up state.
I left the USB cable disconnected until the driver installation directed me to connect it.
I installed the "Basic" Driver for USB connectivity. I initially had connectvity problems trying to "talk to" the printer but switching to a different USB Cable solved that problem.
After all the above, the Firmware install went as described in the HP description.
The printer now reports the upgraded Firmware Version of "1006BR"
I hope my experience helps you with your firmware install.

Can someone walk me through the steps of assigning the static IP to the "wireless network connection" referred to in the last post? I would assume you would right click on My Network Places, then right click on the "wireless network connection", but give me the steps after that. I don't want to screw anything up. Also, is it necessary to turn the router off, or can I just temporarily disable the connection on my laptop?

I have a WRT54G Wireless modem with firmware version 1.02.1 Mar 4 2003. i down loaded the latest firmware for the modem but i can't install it. I get the erroe message"incorrect image file".
    What is wrong?

Which version of the WRT54G do you have?  If it is not clearly stated on the router, go to Wikipedia.org and search for WRT54G, then you can use your router's serial number to determine which version of the router you own.
The version of the router is important.  Each version has a different set of hardware in it, so each version takes a different firmware.
You can only load the firmware that corresponds to your model and version.

  • WRT54G Wireless Router - cannot map Windows 7 pc to a Western Digital sharespace drive

I have a WRT54G Wireless Router.  I recently connected a Western Digital Sharespace external storage drive to the router using an ethernet cable.  Initially, I was able to map to the Sharespace device shares and create backup plans.  After a few months, I lost the drive connections (possibly during a power failure) and since then, have not been able to map to the drives again.  I can ping the Sharespace device and I can see the device in the router configuration screens. I have another computer on the same network, running XP, that is functioning perfectly.   I am wondering if I have a problem because my laptop is on Windows7 and this is a fairly old and unsupported router.  Should I change to a newer router?

If you are able to ping the drive then your computer is communicating with the drive and your router is working fine.
Also your another computer is just working fine. I think this must be the issue with the settings on Windows 7 computer.
