Cannot upgrade from 10.4.11 to Leopard

Here is the computer information and it appears to me that it is compatible with an upgrade but I keep getting the message "cannot install on this computer". Can anyone give me advice on why it won't install on this computer configuration:

The upgrade has nothing to do with the previous OS. It has to do with the hardware.

    Besides making sure that you have the system requirements you need to know that you cannot do an upgrade from 10.3.9 to Leopard by using the upgrade option it is made for upgrading Tiger.
    You need to do an archive and install.
    Insert the disk and choose restart from the apple menu.
    When the computer makes the startup sound, hold down on the letter "c" until the apple appears on the screen.
    The computer will start to the install disk and you need to proceed until you get to the destination screen.
    In the destination screen select the hard drive volume and then select the options button.
    You will be presented with several options.
    Choose to do an archive and install preserving user and network settings.
    If errors are found on the internal hard drive the installer will only present you with the option to erase and install.
    Only erase and install if you are willing to lose everything on the drive.
    If it will not let you archive and install - stop and restart the computer and save whatever you don't want to lose from your hard drive.
    If you need help finding how to back up various files like emails, bookmarks, address book contacts, etc. the call applecare.

  • File sharing no longer works after upgrading from 10.3.9 to Leopard

    I'm trying to do file sharing on my PowerMac G5 with my MacBook Pro. The problem is when I try to connect to the G5 I get no response.
    Powermac G5 was just upgraded from 10.3.9 to Leopard 10.5.6 (clean install, then used Migration Assistant to copy over files). File sharing worked fine on 10.3.9 until I upgraded the G5 to Leopard (the MBP has had Leopard for several months).
    MacBook Pro is running 10.5.4.
    From the Finder I select Go->Connect to Server. I select "browse", and the window that opens shows my G5 in the list (it's the only one). I double-click on my G5 and near the top of the window it shows "Connecting..." with the little spinner at the bottom right of the window, but that is as far as it gets. Just no response after that.
    I tried to Ping the G5 but got no response.
    At first I was trying this wirelessly through my Zoom DSL modem, but to troubleshoot I hooked up the two computers directly with an Ethernet cable but got the same result. No response from the G5.
    I have File Sharing turned on in the G5's System Preferences. All 5 users have as least their write box shared. I've even set up a separate shared folder in one account.
    Please, if you have any ideas please let me know. I'm stuck.

    Wow. 64 views and not a single reply. I found a workaround, but I can't explain it so I'm going to keep this question unanswered for now.
    I had the firewall on the G5 set to "allow only essential services", and file sharing was listed but still not working. However, if I change the firewall on the G5 to "Set access for specific services and applications" file sharing would work. I could sit there and toggle back and forth between the two settings and watch file sharing alternately work and then fail depending on the setting.
    Weird.

I tried installing quicktime 7 from the snow leopard optional installs but the file still didn't play. I also installed the VLC player which opened the file, but only played 7 minutes of it. When I try to open the file in quicktime it says that it can't play the file and that it is not a movie file, but my file is saved as a ".mov" file. Does anyone know how I can get the file to play again?

Clearly there are some applications I need to remove and no doubt my HD could do with a 'spring clean'. My Mac 'Safe Booted' when I turned it on this morning.
    I use many different softwares, some web-based. The decision to upgrade to OSX Yosemite is because I was unable to attend a Webinar this week using GoToMeeting downloadable software. GoToMeeting have upgraded their system and my OS is no longer supported. Other websites like VImeo no longer support my version of Safari. I tend to use Chrome if Safari isn't compatible.
    Problem description:
    I'm thinking of upgrading from v10.6.8 Snow Leopard to OS X Yosemite. However I have noticed that my MacBook Pro becoming ‘slow’ over the last 3 weeks and therefore might have some issues that need to be resolved before I even consider installing OSX Yosemite.     4. Insert disk and follow the instructions to install snow leopard on exsiting drive running leopard.
    5. When installing snow leopard SHOULD NOT touch your user files such as music or pictures, it should only change the core OS
    6. After the snon leopard installation, go to the Apple Menu located on the top left and select software update here you can install the latest verison of the Apple OS

    You cannot upgrade from Oracle 9.2 database to 10.2.0.3 on Solaris. You can upgrade to 10.2.0.2, then to 10.2.0.3 There is a serious problem though doing a direct upgrade, the database will not function. You get

    Has anyone got around this problem yet? Metalink is trying to fix the problem, but hasn't had any luck yet. Tired of having two different 10G directories on servers when migrating databases. Also was horrible during the first upgrade to discover the problem. It has been tested and is a known problem with the Oracle 10.2.0.3 patch (along with 2 other bad issues on 10.2.0.3 patch).

    I have had no issues going from 9.2.0.7 to 10.2.0.3 three weeks ago in our staging environment, since then I have not seen any problem.
    Installed 10.2.0.1 base applied 10.2.0.3 pactchset to the same oracle home.
    The catupgrd.sql script upgraded the following components in my database.

    The Snow Leopard disc which Apple sells includes OS X 10.6.3, so don't worry about that. Also, if you buy a Snow Leopard disc with 10.6, updates until 10.6.8 are completely free through  > Software Update.     Make a backup before upgrading. After upgrading, open  > Software Update, and install the latest version. After updating to 10.6.8, you will be able to upgrade to Lion (call Apple to purchase Lion) or Mountain Lion (you can purchase OS X Mountain Lion in the App Store)

  • Cannot upgrade from Snow Leopard to Yosemite

    I have a MacBook from late 2009 with 4 GB memory and plenty of hard disk space.  When I attempt to upgrade to Yosemite via the App store it says "This version of  OS X 10.10 cannot be installed on this computer".  Even though the computer was purchased new at the end of 2009, is it possible it does not meet the hardware specs somehow?  Am I doing something wrong?  Thanks in advance.

    I'm having a similar (related?) problem with a 2009 MacBook. The upgrade from Snow Leopard to Yosemite started off normally, but the installation is not working - progress bar gets about halfway and then stops...for days.
    A guy at the Genius Bar told me that happens sometimes if there's a blip in the internet connection during the process. Apparently, the resolution is to wipe the drive and reinstall. Unfortunately, I didn't back up the drive prior to the installation thinking this was just one of those upgrades that the OS or various apps (e.g. iTunes, iPhoto, etc.) always want me to install, which I do, never having had a problem.
    Although, the Genius  tested the drive and found it to be in perfect condition, I was told that I need to go to an external company to have the data recovered because Apple doesn't do data recovery.
    Is it true that I have to wipe the disc and start fresh? I have the original Snow Leopard disc, so can I simply reinstall Snow Leopard? When I hold down the option key on power up, it shows me two images - Macintosh HD and Recovery- 10.10. Should I try Recovery- 10.10?
    I would appreciate any thoughts, suggestions, ideas, alternatives, etc.

    I am totally new to MACs and purchased a white Intel iMac for my daughter. It came with a Leopard upgrade or install disc. What is the preferred method to upgrade the system? I have nothing in data at all, its brand new. Should I just do the upgrade from the disc, or an erase and install or archive and install?
    For example, does leopard work better with a fresh install or does it make no difference compared with an upgrade install? Any help appreciated. I am afraid to put leopard on it because it works great now and starts up in a unbelievable 15 seconds from power on to cruise-in the net.

    In your case you must do an Upgrade install as that is the only option for an Upgrade disc. I would do the following:
    First,
    Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
    Boot from your Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    Next, continue with Leopard upgrade and follow the instructions provided.
    If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger and Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

    You'd want to skip Leopard/10.5.x totally as it's not needed & expensive since Apple no longer sells it & it was $129.
    You can get Snow Leopard/10.6 for $29, then once updated to 10.6.6 or greater buy Lion/10.7 from the App Store, as long as your MacBook meets the requiremenys...

    If it's a core Duo & not a Core2Duo, then it'll only run in 32 bit mode.

  • Cannot upgrade from 10.6.8 to Mavericks

    I am running a MacBook Pro 5,3 with 750gb HD and 8gbRAM. I had previously upgraded to Mavericks so I know it works on this machine. I was having hard drive problems with my old 320 and had it upgraded to the new WD 750, and had my ram upgraded while I was at it. I only had 10.6.3 on disk, so thats what was installed on the machine. I had issues with my network connection when doing the online upgrade to 10.6.8, and the file corrupted a couple times and kept failing at 80%. At this point I had performed a reinstal of 10.6.3 and then re-upgraded back to 10.6.8, but now when I try to upgrade to Mavericks it says it cannot be installed on this computer.
    I'm wondering if A) This is related to the new hard drive. Is it possible the hard drive is not compatible for some reason?
    B) The previous upgrade to 10.6.8 is corrupted and is affecting my upgrade.
    How do I solve this issue? I have backed up my computer to a fresh ext disk, and am willing to erase my internal drive, install 10.6.3 again and perform the upgrades from there if need be.

    These instructions are for OS X 10.7 or later. I don't have a 10.6 system to test, so the procedure may be slightly different.
    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

    from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
    The contents of the log will appear on the right. Each log message begins with a timestamp. Select the messages from the time of the last installation or update attempt. If you're not sure when that was, click the Clear Display button in the toolbar of the Console window and then try the installation again. Select the new messages that appear.
    Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
    If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
    When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.

  • Cannot upgrade from fcp x

    I purchased a new MacBook and moved my copy of FCP X from my mac pro, which had a non supported video card.  Now however, I cannot upgrade FCP X on the MacBook.

    Drag the FCPX to the trash and re download from AppStore (purchases)

  • Cannot upgrade from Solaris 10 U5 to Solaris 10 U8

    I have a V490 which has Solaris 10 U5 running on it, and has OBP 4.15.6. I also installed 2 qlc fiber channel HBA.
    Now, I want to upgrade it to Solaris 10 U8. However, I experienced some problem.
    When you boot from the internal hard drive, the OS recognized hard drive through controller c1. Therefore, you will see hard drive as c1t0d0 and c1t1d0.
    When I try to upgrade the OS, I booted from cdrom (Solaris 10 U8). Then the OS recognized the hardware in different order. The OS assign c0 to one of the HBA, and c1 to another HBA. For both hard drives, they are recognized under c3. In that case, I cannot upgrade the OS. I followed every screen of installation, until one point, it should check your existing system for an OS instance, then prompt you that you can upgrade your OS. However, in my case, it didn't prompt me, instead, it treated it as a new machine and go on with the rest of installation procedure.
    Can any one help me?

    Perhaps you could use the live upgrade utility ,*lucreate, luupgrade,* etc.. I tried to upgrade an old x86 box last week however, but found that I needed patches which seemed only available to purchasers of service plans. That was update four to update eight.
