Cannot use encryption in mail

Hi
I am not able to see the encryption tab when customizing a mail "new message".
I have valid certificates in my keychain. How could I make it?

I think poster needs to read up on the encryption theory a bit. Here is the run down:
1. Public/Private key system is designed to eliminate the issue of securely transmitting the encryption key. Hence the name of 'Public key' and 'Private key'.
2. You never ever share your private key with anyone. If you do, you should throw it away and generate a new public/private pair.
3. To answer your question, you need recipient's public key to send that person an encrypted message that that person and only that person will be able to open with their private key.
4. For the person to send you an encrypted message, he/she should have your public key.
5. If you want to sign your message, you need your private key to accomplish that.
6. It is perfectly safe to email your public key to anyone in clear text as the person in possession of that key can only encrypt an outgoing message or verify the signature on the incoming message.
I think that's the theory.

new .Mac account webmail interface?
If the Mail application, you cannot use Panther's
Mail.app with Tiger just as you cannot use Tiger's

How to use encryption in Mail?

How does one send an encrypted email in Leopard/Mail? The Mail "help" menu alludes to this, but I'm not finding clear instructions for the clueless (such as myself). For example, I don't understand where to get a "personal certificate" or how to attach it to an account.
Can anyone offer a link or some instructions for this? Thanks

Cannot use Adobe Reader "Mail" button to send via Yahoo mail.

When trying to use the "mail" button in Adobe Reader (or do File -> Send File...) to send the file via Yahoo e-mail, I get the following error:
"An unknown error occurred while uploading the attachment."
Adobe Reader 11.0.10 for Windows.
Getting this error only on Yahoo e-mail accounts
Getting this on multiple Yahoo accounts on multiple PC's.
All PC's have current versions of Reader (11.0.10), all Windows 7/IE11 with current patches.
A client of ours was using this until last week, when it stopped working.
It is not working on any PC right now with Yahoo mail.

Are you signed out of other accounts (except yahoo)?
Does this happen with every PDF file or any particular one?

You cannot use the application "Mail" with this version of Mac OS X

I get the above message when clicking on "Mail" on my backup drive. Could that be because I did not specifically upgrade my backup drive from Tiger to Leopard?

yes, most probably that is an old version of Mail - i.e. Tiger - and is not compatible with Leopard. You would need to replace it with the newer Leopard version of Mail

Cannot use search in mail

Hi,
Sorry if this question has been asked before or if it is plain silly, but this issue has been annoying me for a while now.
The search function for a keyword in the message body does not seem to be able to search for messages that are located in anywhere except for inbox. I double checked that the mailbox that I want to search is selected (in the search bar at the top). However when I type in the keyword no results are returned... Is that how it's supposed to work? To doublecheck that it is not the word that is actually not present in any of my emails (or misspelled), I copied a random word from one of the emails in the folder and pasted it in the search bar. No results...
Is there some kind of setting that I can change to fix it?
Any help is greatly apreciated!

ASN1 parser: Error in DER parsing [cannot use TLS at all]

Until a couple of days ago, I could use TLS normally, but now, when I am trying to use FTP over TLS in FileZilla, I get this:
Error: GnuTLS error -69 in gnutls_x509_crt_get_dn: ASN1 parser: Error in DER parsing.
Error: Could not get distinguished name of certificate subject, gnutls_x509_get_dn failed
Error: Could not connect to server
And similarly, the certificate isn't accepted using gftp.
I also cannot seem to verify my certificate for my usenet provider and cannot use encrypted connection to usenet.
Any ideas?
P.S. The certificate is Ok, as I tested it on a Mac and FileZilla connects there flawlessly.

Yep, I've the same problem too after upgrading to newest FileZilla version which is 3.7.0 at the moment. In previously versions I didn't have any problems to connect with FTP.
Error message is the same like already posted by the way.
I hope there will be a solution provided soon, because downgrading isn't what makes me looking forward. If important, I've created my certificate by using StartCom

Cannot get or send mail using Apple Mail on iPhone and iPad

Everyone in my household cannot get or send mail on their Apple Mail for iPad and iPhone. We all get the same message: "The user name or password for [account] is incorrect." This just started happening yesterday afternoon. No problems before that. I called my hosting company and Apple, and both blamed the other. My Apple system is always updated, so I have the latest version of Maverick. Had no problems with it up until now.
However, I awoke this morning to find downloaded emails in the same program, but when I go to "get mail," it says the same thing, and still won't allow me to send or receive.
Here's the kicker. I also use Gmail with the exact same accounts (yes, I need both since Apple Mail does things that Gmail doesn't, and vice versa). No problem! I get all my emails and can send with no problem. So, my hosting company claims it can't be them (makes sense). It only happens using Apple Mail, and I have several email addresses. None of them work (other than the strange phenomena of suddenly getting some of them downloaded for no apparent reason).
What do I do from here? I've changed passwords, deleted and tried to set up my emails, only to get the message that they probably will not work. And they don't. I have shut down and restarted my iPad and iPhone, to no avail.
Thank god for my Gmail account, or my business would be closed.
Again, this is happening on four devices in my home: 2 iPads and 2 iPhones.

I have a comcast account I use on my phone and use it for receiving and sending mail. When you look at the account in settings, you need to check each of these
incoming mail server: mail.comcast.net
username: the part of your email address before the @
password: your password
outgoing mail server: smtp.comcast.net
Under Advanced
Use SSL: On
Authentication: Password
Server Port: 995
If you cannot make it work from changing settings in the account, delete the account and start over. Use the "Other" setting when starting the account. It is a POP3 account and make the entries I gave you. Once you do that, it should check the entries and validate the account. You shouldn't have any trouble from there. Those settings will work from either the iPhone on cell, or wireless. Mine will even work when I'm at home on my wireless there, which is on the Comcast network.

Cannot send email in mail app. using POP account with Wi-Fi

I recently moved to an apartment that only has wireless internet access. Since moving I cannot send email using my POP account, although I can receive email. I was also not able to receive email using my .mac account, but I learned through this forum to change server port to 587 in .mac account and now I can send via .mac account in mail app. But I still cannot sent email with mail app. using my POP account. I changed no settings when I moved, and have never had this problem with cable. Any suggestions?

It all depends on the policy of whoever is the ISP at your new location and the method used by the outgoing (SMTP) server to determine whether you’re a legitimate user.
In an attempt to fight spam, many ISPs restrict the ability to send using an outgoing (SMTP) server not owned by them, usually by blocking port 25 for all traffic outside their own network, which means you cannot send with an SMTP server not owned by them if configured to use that port number. And it may happen the other way around as well, i.e. the outgoing server itself may look at the IP address you’re connecting from and refuse the connection if you’re outside its own network.
Something that often works is changing the outgoing server port to 587 (or whatever alternate port number the outgoing server listens to) instead of 25 and using some form of authentication in Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server > Server Settings, but two conditions must be satisfied for this change to work: (1) the ISP must not block that port as well AND (2) the outgoing server in question must listen to that port and accept a form of authentication not based on the IP address you’re connecting from.
Independent mail service providers not tied to a particular ISP, such as .Mac and Gmail, do allow authenticated SMTP access on port 587, which is the reason changing the outgoing server port number solves the problem for them if the ISP doesn’t block that port as well.
The following article, for example, describes several ways to address this issue in the case of .Mac, but can be useful for other mail accounts as well (not just .Mac), and applies to all versions of Mac OS X (not just Mac OS X 10.4.2 and earlier as the article states):

Cannot send attachments in Mail using .mac account, pop account is fine!

Within my Mail.app, I have 2 accounts: one is a .mac account, the other a pop account.
When I send attachments (jpg always and sometimes pdf) with the .mac account, they do not get encoded properly and my recipients cannot view them -- or they can view, say, 10% of the photo.
When I send the same attachments with the pop account, and within the same Mail.app, I do NOT have this problem.
Furthermore, if I send the attachment from my .mac webmail, I do NOT have the problem.
Does Mail.app have a problem with attachments sent via IMAP accounts?
I have tried Repairing Permissions, deleting the outbox.mbx (and emptying the trash).
Does anyone have any other suggestions? This is driving me crazy.

Does Mail.app have a problem with attachments sent via IMAP accounts?
None that I'm aware of.
The Mail.app uses MIME 1.0 for message/attachment encoding (which is the internet standard) for all email accounts.
Is your POP account and the SMTP server used for the account provided by your ISP used for connecting to the internet?
If so, try selecting/using your ISP's SMTP server (the same SMTP server used to send mail via your ISP's POP account) to send mail via your .Mac account as a test.

I recently needed to replace my hard drive and now when I try to open the Mail application I get the following message: "You cannot use this version of the application Mail with this version of Mac OS X."

ANSWERING MY OWN POST:
I have tried reinstalling Mail from my Snow Leopard upgrade disk directly and tried it using Pacifist. Neither worked because both simply reinstalled version 4.0. Fortunately, I have a MacBook Pro and it has version 4.1. I copied this directly, which was not ideal (it was quite confused about my mailboxes), but it worked.
The problem is that +Software Update+ did not detect the old version of Mail and Apple does not provide a direct way (that I could find) of downloading the latest version. Each time I downloaded Mail from Apple, it was version 4.0.

If you are trying to connect to your ISP e-mail account. The ISP will help you setup and connect to your e-mail account. So, you might want to give them a call.
Usually, when you are told that you can't use the server it means that there might be an error (either a wrong name/ address / password/ connection type/ etc.) so check your settings again...

Cannot use instant messenger in Yahoo Mail anymore and don't know why

when I go into my Yahoo Mail, I cannot use instant messenger. If I click on someone on line nothing happens at all. I have been told to delete and reload this program (IM) but have tried repeatedly and cannot find it anywhere. Also tried contacting someone on facebook and got no response so I assume it's not working on the chat feature either

On your iPhone, go the settings app. Then select Mail, Contacts, Calendars on the left column. On the right column under Accounts select your Yahoo mail account. A popup with show up and then you have to turn the the Notes switch to the off position.
