Cannot use F8 option to set my notebook into original factory settings

Hi,
I tried this last night, and when I tried to do the recovery via F8, I got the message:
"Recovery of operating system is impossible! Could not find Hard drive disk recovery folder on the second drive of the first hard drive. There is no valid hard drive disk recovery environment on this computer"
I was completely baffled, I'm assuming it meant the 'HDD Recovery' folder in the E drive partitioned. But I have in no way changed or modified any thing in this folder.
Please help.
The only other option I seem to have found on this forum is to create a hard drive recovery disk from the toshiba software that came on the laptop, although I am not too sure how this will work.
Many thanks if anyone can help, my laptop is running really slow and I think i have out something bad on it without knowing it.
JAde

Hi Jade
You are right. This HDDRecovery folder cannot be found and recovery procedure cannot start.
Is this folder still available on second partition?
Have you changed anything with partition?
Have you may be removed this folder to external HDD and later moved it back on second partition?
One more thing: have you created recovery media recommended by Toshiba reminder?

What to do before selling or giving away your Mac
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

I'm trying to set my computer back to factory settings, to make it like new. How do I do that?

Throw away any files which may contain sensitive data and securely empty the Trash.
If it shipped with Mac OS X 10.6.8 or earlier, connect its original thumbdrive and restart the computer with the Option key held down.
If it shipped with Mac OS X 10.7 or newer, restart with the Command and R keys held down.
Use the Disk Utility to erase the partition with Mac OS X installed, and then install a new OS onto it. If you used a disk and are going to sell or give away the computer, include the disk with it.

My iPhone 4 will not turn on, when I plug it into my computer and load up iTunes its in recovery mode and the only option is to restore my device to factory settings, I have no back up of my phone I've also tried the home/sleep button thing but nothing, I have literally done every method I was told, I checked for water damage and that's fine. I don't want to restore my phone or buy a new one or pay for repairs because that's wasting money when it could be a simple way to fix it. And yes, I've also tried charging it and turning it in. I really need some help with my phone

That does happen.  It depends on how hard the server is being hit, as well as the connection speed of your system.  If you are on a windows system, you will want to disable any antivirus or firewall software during the download.

    Hi NYYJMM,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You may want to reset your iPod nano and then sync again. If the issue persists, restore your iPod and try again. See these articles for the steps:

  • HELP ME PLEASE! I Cannot re-register Photoshop CS4 atfter bringing laptop back to factory settings?!

I had to bring back my laptop to factory settings and have tried to re-load PS CS4 and now the serial number is not recognised. I have explained this to Adobe and they say they do not recognise the serial number, but they did recognise it the first time around when I initially registered it? I think it may be something to do with deactivating and reactivating between different laptops and PCs because of the licence. I cannot deactivate as I am unable to access Photoshop to do so.
I have actually found my purchase details off Amazon, as Adobe suggested, but I am unsure where I should send this information to as Adobe have not come back to me? I am based in the UK.

  • When I plug my ipod touch into my computer, itunes says it cannot read it and it needs to be reset to factory settings

I bought my Ipod Touch today and I set it up with everything, even added a few game apps and my music. I plugged it in again and as it was reading "Evan's Ipod" , it cancelled and told me it could not be read and to reset it to its factory settings. I did and that didn't fix the problem. It's still telling me the same thing. Could anyone help?

Try placing the iPod in DFU made and then restore. If you get the same error time for an Appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • How to set iBook G4 back to factory settings without disk.

I'm about to sell my iBook G4. But I want it back to it's factory settings. I got told:
    Turn off mac.
    Restart and as soon as you see the white screen press;
    Command and S.
    Type in:
    /sbin/fsck -fy
    /sbin/mount -uw
    rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
    Reboot
but it doesn't reboot it. HELP!

You can't; that procedure will cause it to rerun the Setup Assistant, but it isn't an actual factory reset. If you want to use it anyway, use 'shutdown -h now' as the final command.
The computer shouldn't be sold without its original disks.

  • Cannot use iPhoto library to set background in System Preferences

I'm unable to set any photos from my iPhoto library as a desktop background using System Preferences. When I select a photo, it appears in the little preview window, but the desktop itself just turns blue.
The Choose Folder option works fine, and I can also set a new background picture from within iPhoto. Any idea why System Preferences can't properly access the iPhoto library?
    Thanks!

I'm having the exact same problem!!

  • Two different site collection cannot use the same Term Set . Is there any solution for this ?

I can save department site collection as site collection template. Also I can use this template for a new department site collection creation.
But Managed Meta data Navigation throws the following error
•Error loading navigation: The Managed Navigation term set is improperly attached to the site. (Correlation ID: 6fa6b19c-820a-001d-b9e0-d939d702050a)

    Hi ,
this is a limitation. please refer this
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/sharepoint/en-US/029b7e2e-661f-4ac3-bfcb-eb99b43016f2/the-selected-term-set-is-already-used-by-another-site
Unfortunately in SP 2013, a termset can only be used by a single site collection for navigation. This is a known limitation. There is no out of the box way to use a central termset to manage navigation across site collections. You need to develop a custom sitemap
    provider to do that.
Another way to do this is to create termset for each site collection and reuse/pin the terms from the central termset instead of creating duplicate terms. You can script this easily using Powershell. This has some limitations though.
Also, you can try little customization. Follow this link -

  • Cannot use Standby option on my Satellite Pro P200

    Hi
I have installed XP SP2 on my P200, but it can not go into standby, it says something about RAM parity check or something?
    What can be wrong?
    Standby in Vista works fine.
    *Hardware malfunction*
*Call your hardware vendor for support*
*nmi: parity check / memory parity error*
    *The system has halted*

An NMI error can be caused by a number of things.
Bad memory, did you install any memory modules recently?
    Faulty hardware
    Bad driver
Read this Microsoft KB for a solution:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315223
If the RAM passes, I would run recovery to rule out a software problem. If it still happens after that, take it to a repair center.
