  • Safari 7.0 will not use google a search engine

Eventhough I've selected google as my default search engine in the preferences it will only use Yahoo. Is there a fix or work around for this?

From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

Reply: Cor-el > Excellent!! Thank You. In Tools, Add Ons, Extensions there was a Default Tab enntry which was the culprit. Am running W7 so the XP Tools, Options, Advanced , Use Hardware acceleration when available, wasn't of much help here, however I did fix a problem on another computer running XP with that same fix. Thank You very much! HD

  • When using Google to search the results are displayed so small I cannot read them. This just started today.

Today when I was searching with Google. The display of the results started getting smaller and smaller, right before my eyes, and I could not stop it, and I was doing nothing, but reading the screen. I cannot find anything to tell me how to get the larger size display back. All the other search engines, such as Bing, Yahoo are displaying correctly. I have always used Google, I like Google, I do not want to change. Please can you help me? I have a screen print available is you need to see it. I tried searching the Google website for help but I couldn't find anything. I installed something called Stylish, thinking that would help, but it did not.

hello, try to press ctrl+0 ('zero') while you're on the page in order to reset the zoom level or in case this doesn't work also go through the other common troubleshooting steps at [[Websites look wrong or appear differently than they should]].

  • I cannot change my default search engine, despite trying all your suggestions. A friend suggested an add on- google default but for some reason Firefox is not

I have recently had the problem of Yahoo search becoming my default search engine. I loathe Yahoo having had many problems with them in the past so refuse to use them. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing...no change. I tried all your suggested fixes and none works. There is now no mention of Yahoo when I go to change search settings, but despite this Yahoo is the default search engine. This is intolerable for me and I am seriously on the verge of removing firefox for good. Stop me!!! I am having to send this in a different search engine as in Mozilla firefox this account is inactive...work that one out! It means there is no point giving you troubleshooting info...

You may have ad / mar-ware changing your settings.
First, check the programs that are on your computer
'''Windows:''' Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs.
    '''Mac:''' Open the "Applications" folder.
    '''Linux:''' Check your user manual.
Go thru the list. If you find something that you don't
know what it is, use a web search.

    '''[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/ Mozilla Search Reset]''' {web link}
This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up and
then resets your search preferences and home page to their
default values, and then uninstalls itself. This affects the
search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.

  • I have been putting in a URL and yahoo snags it parses it to several words then gives me a search page... I use Google for search andf I want to go to the specific URL I entered... How do I block Yahoo from doing this crap?

I use google for my search engine. I do not have any reference to Yahoo in my plugins or extensions on Firefox. Every time I enter a specific URL in the Firefox box, Yahoo comes up, has the full URL I entered to go directly to. It has the URL in the Yahoo search entry field and it parses the name to several words that make up the entire URL. Asks me if I only want the name I entered and lists every site that contains the words it parses... Yahoo is really screw up if it hijacks the browser. How do I prevent them from doing this...

    Hi,
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article.

  • How to make google default search engine in address bar.

How do I make it so that when I search with my address bar it ALWAYS uses Google, regardless of what search engine is selected in the search bar? It used to be like this, but a recent Firefox update altered it. Now, when I search with my address bar it uses the search engine selected in the search bar...if I wanted to do that, I would just use the search bar! Any suggestions?

I'm also having this same problem... it's the first thing that Firefox has ever done that's made me contemplate getting a different browser. The "update" seems like a step back, and a removal of a very good feature. I'm in the same boat of wondering if there's any work-arounds or add-ons to restore the old usage, even if it comes at the risk of having my address bar's search engine occasionally hijacked.

  • My "Awesome Bar" is no longer using Google for search. It is using Yahoo. I want to switch it to Google, again.

The Firefox URL address bar defaults to a search feature if the browser does not recognize the entry as a valid http, https, ftp etc URL.
Until recently, it used Google. It is now using Yahoo search and I want to switch it back.
Efforts to use Time Machine backups of my library files have not fixed the problem.

    Hey Shewmaker,
You should take a look at [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Location%20bar%20search?s=location+bar&r=2&as=s#w_changing-the-internet-keyword-service this article] on the Location Bar. It will show you how to change the provider for the location bar search.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Using JSF in search engine.

    Hi,
I am implementing a search engine. I want to use jsf for for the UI part. I have few queries in this regard.
    - Has anybody used jsf for the same?
    - Since the search result may contain any number of result, then it is not good to first load all the results into a List object and then do the pagination.
    Cheers...

    Hi Tom,
I am currently involved in developing a web front end for our book search engine. We used JSF and though we had some issues initially, we are pretty happy with the results. You can check it out at http://books.infact.com.
As for pagenation, the fetching of results (including number of results retrived each time, total count of results etc) should be handled by the back end of your search engine, in my opinion. The JSF part should communicate with the backend to get the number of results it needs to display. Hope that helps.

  • Firefox properly goes to my set home pages; how do I get it to use my preferred SEARCH ENGINE (without having to be able to PROGRAM)?

I want to choose the search engine; Firefox goes to Google. My home pages are properly set. The only solution offered to this question earlier would have you go to Web Developer and instantly was WAY over my head. How can an ordinary person change this? Thank you.

  • Googles custom search engine

I purchased Google's Business Search Engine and have spent all day trying to get it to search over my 2 sites. It will search the one site fine but I cant find out why it wont include the 2nd one. Google's support is not much help. Thought someone over here might be able to shed some light. Both sites are created in iweb 08 and hosted on 2 diff .mac accounts.
    Thanks !!

  • I cannot get google cache search to function in Firefox

when I try to Google cache search for (certain color highlighted words on web pages) no color highlighted words show up.... A cache search is a great time saving convenience, and I miss mine not working. Is there anything I can do to reactivate it?
    Firefox 20.0.1
    Thank you, Jay

I'm trying to think of a reason that the script would change the size of type on the page... Perhaps what's happening is that the style sheet isn't loading due to secure/insecure settings. Could you use the script options to turn off HTTPS, then reload the cached page?
