Cannot use iPhoto '11 preferences without crashing

Anyone else have this problem with running with Lion. Iphoto runs fine except when I open preferences. It does not allow me edit preferences and then crashes. I tried repairing preferences, deleting the plist file and using with a new account. Even crashes without any files loaded.

I am using  iPhoto 9.1.5

Since I upgraded from Mac OX S Snow Leopard to Maverick OX  S 10.9, I cannot use IPhoto '11 and Aperture 3 anymore? Can anyone tell me what the problem could be. I cannot find a way to upgrade these programs as they don't work anymore at all!
Can I put back the Snow Leopard instead, because I tried it but also that didn't work?

Can't tell you problem with no information. What version of iOhoto do you have?  It should be version 9.5
Why can't you use them? What exactly happens? What exact error messages do you get?

  • I cannot use iPhoto now there is Photo on my mac. How can I continue to use iPhoto

I cannot use iPhoto now there is Photo on my mac. How can I continue to use iPhoto

You can, why do you think it's not possible? Does  need updating?
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • My MBP has Mountain Lion installed. The iPhoto version is 8.1.2. Cannot install iPhoto 9.4 without installing 9.0, but cannot find 9.0. Solution, please.

If you're running Mac OS X 10.8.x ou can purchase iPhoto version 9.x from the App Store. If you purchase iPhoto at the App Store you will automatically get the most up-to-date version and you won't need to install the 9.4 update.

  • How do I take photo's and video's off my iPhone without using iPhoto? It keeps crashing and to update I need to remove my photos-a catch 22??

How do I take the photo's and video's off my iPhone?... if 'iPhoto' on my mac keeps continually crashing and now refuses to open…?
I need to do this to update my apple software in iTunes, so that I can rid the bugs on my phone and take photo's again.
Is there another way to take the photos/videos off my iPhone and onto the mac? and also to delete them off the phone after I have put them on my hard drive?
It use to be as simple as find, drag and drop into a folder on my old pc. This should be much simpler, any advice or direction extremely welcome……?
    From iphotofandango

    Hi Iphotofandango,
There is an alternative to using iPhoto for transferring photos from an iOS device. You can use Image Capture, which will allow you to transfer photos easily. Image Capture is a tool already on your Mac. The following article may help:
Image Capture: Transfer images and other items from your device
Transfer images, video clips, and MP3 sounds to your computer from many cameras and devices that contain a camera, such as your iPhone. Once you transfer the items, you can delete them from the device.
Connect your device to your computer, then turn the device on.If the device is locked with a passcode, enter it.
In Image Capture, select the device in the Devices list.
Use the buttons at the bottom of the Image Capture window to view the thumbnails as a list or as icons to change the size of the thumbnails, or to rotate or delete images.
From the Import To pop-up menu, choose where to save the images or which app to use to open the image.
To import only some of the photos, select those photos, then click Import. To import all the photos, click Import All.Choose AutoImporter from the “Connecting this [device] opens” pop-up menu to transfer images from a device to your computer whenever you connect it to your computer.
Select “Delete after Import” to remove the items from the device after transferring them to your computer. You can also select individual items on your device, then press the Delete key on your keyboard.
For more information about connecting and using your device, refer to the documentation that came with it.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.

  • Started using iPhoto, now Macbook Pro crashes randomly

    Hi,
I started using iPhoto today to resize some photos. As soon as I tried to edit a photo or export a number of photos at one time the program crashes. A blue screen appears for a second and then I am brought back to the user login screen.
I read on another thread that it may help if you use iPhoto from a different user account. I tried to create a new user account in system preferences but as soon as I clicked the create new user button the same blue screen appeared and again I was brought back to the user login screen.
Now my macbook pro is crashing randomly. I am now using another machine to type this question as my mac crashes as I try and submit this.
Prior to using iPhoto today my mac did not crash at all.
    Can anyone help?

    Anyone any ideas?

  • TS3988 I am using mountain lion.  iCloud works fine with my iMac iPads and iPhone with one annoying exception.  I cannot use the systems preferences on my iMac because I cannot log in.  When entering my apple id and password I get a window saying "You can

I cannot log into systems preferences for icloud on my imac.  icloud works on all devices including the imac, but I get the window "You can't sign in at this time" when using system preferences on the imac.  I am using mountain lion, but it didn't work on lion either.  Help

You may wish to try the following:
    1. Sign out of your account
(If you are unable to do this because System Preferences has frozen, Force Quit System Preferences and try again)
    2. When prompted, opt to delete, contacts, calendars etc from your Mac.
(You are only deleting this data from your Mac, not from iCloud, the data will be reinstated when you log back in. If you need to check that the data is in iCloud before deleting it go to iCloud.com and check each section for data)
    3. Having logged out, check that the iCloud accounts along with their data have disappeared from the Mail, Address Book and iCal Applications.
(If necessary, delete the iCloud accounts from each of these application separately from each Applications Preferences)
    4. At this point it may be worth trying to log into iCloud from the System Preferences iCloud settings again, if this works, all well and good, if it doesn't continue to step 5.
    5. Open your User Library folder in the Finder. (When in the Finder, go to the Go menu, hold down the option key (alt) and choose Library when it appears in the Go menu)
    6. Navigate to Library > Application Support > iCloud and drag the iCloud folder to your desktop. (This action only copies the folder and will provide you with a back up)
    7. Select the iCloud folder again in Library > Application Support and drag it to the trash, enter your administrators password when prompted.
    8. Restart your computer.
    9. You should now be able to enter your ID and Password in system Preferences > iCloud and log into your account. Check the services you wish to use and once you are satisfied it's working as it should, trashh the iCloud folder you copied to your desktop earlier.

  • I have just installed Mavericks OS, and now cannot use iPhoto. Any advice?

I have just installed Mavericks OS onto my macbook pro, and now find that I  cannot access iPhoto. Does this mean that my photographs are lost, or can I install an update for iPhoto which will correct this?

Did you install the new iPhoto? Were your pictures lost?? I stopped the downloading thinking I can still retrieve my pictures..

  • Cannot use iPhoto library to set background in System Preferences

I'm unable to set any photos from my iPhoto library as a desktop background using System Preferences. When I select a photo, it appears in the little preview window, but the desktop itself just turns blue.
The Choose Folder option works fine, and I can also set a new background picture from within iPhoto. Any idea why System Preferences can't properly access the iPhoto library?
    Thanks!

I'm having the exact same problem!!

  • Just upgraded to Mavericks and cannot use iphotos. I get an error message that I have iphoto 9.3.2. I have tried to update to 9.4 9.4.3 and 9.5 all without success. Now I cant access updates Help!!!!!

I need help desperatly cant get in iphotos and can seem to update iphotos either paid or free . Help me please

How did you originally install iPhoto? Did it come preinstalled with Lion or an earlier system? Or did you buy iLife install DVDs?
What happens, when you try to update?
For the AppStore to see iPhoto to update it, it must beinstalled in the Applications folder and called simply iPhoto.
When you sign into the AppStore with your AppleID, do you see iPhoto on the "Purchased" tab of the App Store?  Is there an "Accept" part of the window? If yes, accept the iLife apps. Then look again on the updates part of the AppStore.
Have you upgraded Mavericks to the latest version 10.9.1? That is supposed to fix update problems.

  • Cannot use iPhoto library for Screensaver

I think this used to work.  I wanted to use a certain album in iPhoto as the source for my Screen Saver, but the package is dimmed out when I go to select a source for the screensaver.  Is there some way around this?

You should be able to use the library on the EHD to supply images for the screensaver.   What version of iPhoto are you using? What format is the EHD.  It must be OS X Extended (journaled) for it to operate properly and without problems.

Note: Data will not be affected.
    (B) Reset all settings

  • How do I use iphoto on ipad, without syncing?

I have an ipad 2 and a PC. I want ot be able to edit and categorize my photos on my ipad but I want to be able to just leave the pictures in shared folderon my PC. I would be doing this over my home wi-fi but just not sure what I need to do. I know how to sync with the ipad via sugar sync and dropbox, but it would be nice to access the pc directly since my photo collection is a lot larger than my storage for both dropbox and sugar sync.

It will run much faster on your computer's hard drive because flash drives are slow. You could instead put it on a portable hard drive in a USB enclosure.

  • IPhoto 8.1.1 crashes immediately at startup

This crash started happening after I installed a new hard drive in my MacBook Pro and restored from a Time Machine backup. I've tried deleting the prefs, but that had no effect. I also held down option-command, but the crash occurs immediately. iPhoto bounces in the dock once, then it's toast.
Any suggestions as to the next step?
