Cannot use Itunes or Quicktime

Can someone please help with reinstalling Itunes. No matter how many times I try to uninstall Itunes (and quicktime, Itunes Helper, Bonjour etc etc) and reinstall I cannot get the program to work.
I think I did an update a while back and since then it simply will not start, I get the standard windows crash report ("Quicktime player/Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close...")
I have tried uninstalling everything, removing the folders left behind, deleting registry entries associated with apple software and then reinstalling using the latest downloads from the Apple website. Nothing works.
Any help is much appreciated as I really want to get this thing working again!

read the thread HELP HELP HELP, i did a full system recovery clean hardrive the works and i cant get itunes installed what so ever. Have a look at the tips in there see if they help you out. Got a nice new ipod touch and its stuck in recovery mode and will be until i get itunes installed.

  • Cannot use itunes or quicktime since buying quickTime Pro

Itunes and Quicktime were working great. I purchased the key for QuickTime Pro and input it. Now, whenever I start itunes I get "please wait while windows configures itunes..." but it never configures.
When I click "Quicktime Player" I get "Could not load or find the quicktime active X control".
I have tried running both programs as an administrator, rebooting, reinstalling, etc. The programs are both hosed.
I tried the registry edits suggested. When running AS AN ADMINISTRATOR I get "pcast cannot be opened. An error is preventing this key from being opened. Access is denied"
How do I get this working again? I'm going to challenge the charge on my credit card if I can't get my system back the way it was.

I have the same problem. Is there any soluations?

  • Cannot use Itunes or Quicktime, nor can I uninstall them!....

The software worked fine until one day, maybe a month ago, that I was getting the "unexpected error" window everytime I open either programs. I get the window usually 3 seconds after opening the file, and nothing shows up but the error window. I try uninstalling and I receieve a "a fatal error has occured" window, and the uninstall stops.
I have NO clue how to go about troubleshooting this. I've done all there is with my knowledge and all that the support page has had to offer.
If anything has any input on this, that would be great!
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I had exactly the same problem you're describing, and I finally managed to resolve it yesterday. Here's what I did (with the caveat that although it did work for me, any manual deleting and registry editing is done at your own risk!):
*Uninstalled iTunes, and Apple Software Update from the Control Panel. Restarted the system.
*A complete manual uninstall of QuickTime, following the excellent advice given here: http://pabsungenis.livejournal.com/94683.html. The only thing I didn't do was install QuickTime at the end, as he recommends.
*Searched all hard drives for QuickTime folders and files, and deleted these. I found that in addition to the dll files in "Windows/System32", there was a QuickTime folder in System32 as well, which I deleted. In those cases when it seemed that a QT file was used by another 3rd party program as a plug-in, I just renamed or moved the file.
*I also manually removed all Apple folders under "Documents and Settings/<username>/Application Data" and "Documents and Settings/<username>Local Settings/Application Data" for every user on the system. Deleted the iPod, iTunes and QuickTime folders in Program Files as well.
*Emptied the Recycle Bin and restarted the system.
*Installed an older version of iTunes (7.4), which I found on www.oldapps.com.
*Restarted the system after installation had finished.
To my great relief, and surprise, this worked - I've now got iTunes up and running again! I haven't yet updated to a newer version, as this one seems to work well with my old 40GB iPod without video and my wife's 80GB iPod Classic.
    Hope this helps,
    Erik N

    Hey High Socks,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, iTunes isn't working when you try to launch it. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.

  • My Windows XP computer becomes extremely slow when I try using iTunes. It cannot connect to iTunes Store. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes but nothing changes. I cannot use iTunes or sync my iPod anymore. Please help.

I cannot use iTunes anymore. My computer becomes extremely slow or just freezes. I notice the problem started after I updated iTunes to a new version. I have tried uninstalling iTunes completely from my computer and installing it back, but problem continues. We iTunes launches, it tries to connect to iTunes store, but it doesn't seem to be able to do that either. I can't sync my iPod or play back my music, please help.

With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
(If there's a SpeedBit LSP showing up in Autoruns, it's usually best to just uninstall your SpeedBit Video Accelerator.)

    Hello KarmaThaPilot,
I located an article that may help you with the issue you're experiencing. Take a look under that heading titled "Using the Repair Privileges Utility."
Troubleshooting permissions issues in Mac OS X
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2963
For Mac OS X 10.2 or later, open Disk Utility (/Applications/Utilities/). Select your Mac OS X startup volume in the column on the left of the Disk Utility window, then click the First Aid tab. Click the Repair Disk Permissions button.
Before performing maintenance such as repairing disk permissions, it's always best to perform a backup of critical files.

Cannot use itunes card says already been redeemed but havent used it it plz help
    <Edited By Host>

Most of the people on these forums, including myself, are fellow users - you're not talking to iTunes Support here. I've asked the hosts to change the title of your post as it appears to include the card number.
You've tried logging out and back into your account to see if the amount from it has been added to your account ? If it isn't then was the card complete when you bought it i.e. the part that you scratch off to uncover the code was still on the card ? If it was, and you've double-checked that you are entering the correct code, then try contacting iTunes Support (they might want images of the card and the receipt) : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then iTunes Cards And Codes

  • I cannot use iTunes because I cannot upgrade quicktime

Apple has deviously inflicted more consternation that I thought possible upon me: I just want to use iTunes on my MacBook Pro I have had for a little over a year, and all of a sudden iTunes won't open.
    I get this message:
iTunes requires QuickTime 7.5.5 or later.
and it tells me to upgrade quicktime, i download the upgrade, attempt to install it, and it tells me the installation failed due to damaged source file. But the source file is what I am downloading from Apple, who are really screwing me here (general inferiority of their products aside!) I have tried in vain to find online support, and have called Apple for support twice now, to say which I did not receive would be an understatement. The first guy told me he would e-mail simple steps to fix the problem -- I never got an email. I called again and a different woman told me it would be a violation of policy for her to email me any such help without my serial number, which I didn't have because I was not at home and anyhow the serial number isn't even listed under "About this Mac", furthermore all I wanted was assistance with a damaged file that they are offering for free download to the public.
Finally the woman told me I should download the latest version of iTunes and that would take care of it, giving me the impression that the newly installed iTunes would contain the requisite version of QuickTime, but this was not the case and now I have the new version of iTunes but it still will not open.
Please help me, I just want to use iTunes!

Go to Applications > Utilities, launch *Disk Utility*.
Select your HD, select First Aid, run *Repair Disk Permissions*.
If hat does not fix it, boot from your Install DVD, run Disk Utility then *Repair Disk*.

  • Cannot use iTunes?

A while ago, I tried to update iTunes to the newest version. In the middle of the update, my computer shut down. Now I cannot do anything with iTunes; I can't open it, reinstall, uninstall, or repair it. Every time I try to do anything, it'll get to the "computing space requirements" part and freeze, completely locking up my computer. I cannot do anything with quicktime, either, as the same problem occurs. I tried to just delete all the files altogether, but I can't do that either because of whatever protection rights are on them. How do I fix this?

Every time I try to do anything, it'll get to the "computing space requirements" part and freeze, completely locking up my computer.
Sometimes that can indicate that the installer is getting hung up on disk damage on the PC.
Let's try running a chkdsk over your C drive. There's instructions in the following Microsoft document. (Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r depending on which way you go about doing the chdsk.)
[How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265]
The chkdsk should take a long time. If it stops after seconds or just a few minutes, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage?

  • Cannot install itunes and quicktime

I get an error message during quicktime installation
    "cannot open key: HKEYLOCALMACHINE/Software/Classes/QuicktimePlayerlib.Quicktimeplayerapp/CLSID"
Any suggestions what to do next.

Sounds like something regarding the Quicktime registry files.
    Try running through this:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538
Then, go into Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs
Uninstall anything that says iPod for Windows
    Uninstall iTunes
    Uninstall Quicktime
If you run into problems uninstalling Quicktime:
Download/install the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Run it (Start -> All Programs -> Windows Install Clean Up)
    Remove anything that says:
    iPod for Windows
    iTunes
    Quicktime
    Then, go into C:\Program Files
If there is an iTunes folder, delete it
If there is an iPod folder, open it and delete the folder labeled "bin"
If there is a Quicktime folder, delete it
Then, go to C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Local Settings
    and delete the 'temp' folder
Note: If you don't see 'local settings' click Tools -> Folder Options; click the view tab; under 'advanced settings' click the option to 'show hidden files and folders' and then click Apply and OK
    Empty the recycle bin
    Reboot the computer
Go here and download the version of Quicktime that does not include iTunes:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Then, go here and download iTunes 7:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Once you have it successfully installed, you can go back into MSCONFIG and put your computer back to normal startup (just select normal startup, and click apply, close, and restart when it prompts you to)

I have a new Macbook Air and I cannot use my itunes. It asks me to reinstall. How do I do that?

download the standalone installer from here and run it over the existing installation.
if that doesn't work, try removing iTunes completely (click here and follow the instructions), then reinstall it.
