Cannot use lighting effect in CS6 extended

When I use the lighting effect filter in CS6 extended, it only creates a new layer without any change in the menu and other things.  As advised, I try to edit the GPU setting under the edit menu but the column is in grey colour and cannot be edited.  I have changed my display card to AMD Radeon HD 7770 with an updated driver but it still not works.

Are you sure the document is an RGB 8-bit/channel image?

When I do the Lighting Effects Filter, the effect is present.  However, when I click the OK button, the effect does NOT show.  Please explain.

No, all channels were selected.  But, I think I figured it out ... there was a filter mask also present from a previous smart filter which should have been deleted.
Another question about filters, lighting in particular.  Seems to take "forever" for the effect to render.  I have a Mac Pro with the following configuration:

Chipset Model:    NVIDIA GeForce GT 120

Do you think changing the memory or the graphics display would speed things up?

  • CS6  Non-responsive when using Light effect filter in Photoshop

Win 7 OS. I am trying to use the light effect filter and when I select it photoshop gets locked up and won't respond until I end task in task manager (it says photoshop not responding in task manager). Is there a fix for this? I did all of my updates and it still happens. I have homework to do, I need to fix this issue. Any help is appreciated,
    Thank you

Every time I try and use lighting effect, on my Win 7, CS6 it crashes. I at least get to use it, but when I click "ok" for the changes to take place, "Adobe has stopped working" and just crashes.
I looked into my Graphics Card drivers update... (AMD RADEON hd 6450) and on the site, I chose a very new update for a catalyst... blah blah. Which gave me this new control panel specific with this new driver update. However, once I downloaded it, restarted (for s & g's) it doesn't show up in my graphics card properties... its the same driver as before. So this may not have anything to do with what help I need. Although, it has a new "control center" that I looked at and its all martian to me.
Someone please help me to resolve this issue??!! I can give more information if needed.

  • Why can't I use lighting effect filter in CS6 with an 8bit RGB file?

I've read all over that the filter only works with an 8bit/RGB file, which my file is, so I don't understand what the problem is.  I am attempting to light a smart object (3d bevel and extruded text) that I created in illustrator, and thought that I might just need to rasterize the smart object before the filter would work, but even after I render it and or flatten the image, merge visible, I still don't have the option to use lighting effects!  Please help!

Thank you for your prompt reply.  After doing a bit of investigating I'm finding out this video card is pretty shite (work owned machine), and I didn't have the gp enabled in performance prefs.  I had been using such an old version of PS previously I wasn't aware there was a setting for  this, frankly.  Per some other threads I found, I updated to the latest graphics accellerator drivers for it as well, but unfortunately the enable gp option is still greyed out, so I'm guessing it just won't run this onboard gpu doesn't meet some minimum system requirement or something.  Thx again.

  • I cannot find 3d on Photoshop cs6 extended yes it is extended

I cannot find 3d on Photoshop cs6 extended Yes it is extended

    Hello there!
Could you be more specific on your issue? are you on CS6? Could you also post a screenshot of your issue?
Try this link for more information: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/3d-workflow-cs6.html
Below is a layer i would like to make 3D:
i can bring forward the 3D panel by going to Window> 3D, as shown below.
OR with the layer selected, i can go to the top menu, 3D > New 3D Extrusion from Selected Layer
This transforms my letter into 3D, as shown below.
Are you able to see the above 3D menu and window panel? Please post back.

  • Preview toggle in Lighting Effects crashes CS6 Beta

    I'm on Win7x64 Ultimate, 8GB RAM, GTX260-896 MB VRAM, latest drivers (296.10 released 13 Mar 2012).
I can use, and save the results of using, Lighting Effects (only relatively small (< 4 MB) flat 16-bit TIFFs and flat JPEGs tried so far) with no apparent difficulties. However, any but the most limited use (not exceededing three on average - applied as a continuous toggle) of the Preview button invariably causes CS6 Beta to crash. This is the error message generated by Windows:
"Adobe Photoshop CS6 has stopprd working

This happens with all Basic, Normal and Advanced Drawing Modes in the "Advanced Settings" tab of the Graphics Processor Settings dialog in the Performance Tab of Preferences. Having ticked "Use Graphics Processor" and then clicked the "Advanced Settings" button, CS6 Beta tells me that Open CL is an available option (which is consistent with the release notes for the latest drivers) but because my graphics card is now about 4 or 5 years old, I have my doubts and so my testing  has included not selecting that option. However all tests have selected "Use Graphics Processor to Accelerate Computation".
I was hoping that someone in the Adobe development team might be able to have a look at this issue for me? Please?

Continuing to experience this problem - this time applying the filter to a Smart Object layer in an 84 MB PSD file - crash occuring after just 3 toggles of the Preview button.
Here is the summary and full report generated by NirSoft's AppCrashView (ver 1.11) program. It takes its info from the Windows WERs.

  • I have an issue using Lighting Effects in Adobe Photoshop CC 2014

    Hello everyone,
I am having issues using Lighting Effects in Adobe Photoshop CC 2014. I created a duplicate layer that I want to do the effects on, converted it to a smart object and on that same layer went to Filter>Render>Lighting Effects  to get to the Lighting Effects screen. When adjusting the parameters (drag/reshape the lights) for either the spotlight or point light, I don't see any changes. Can someone tell me what could be the issue or if I'm doing the steps wrong to apply the effects?
    Here are my specs:
    Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.140303-2144)
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600S CPU @ 2.80GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.8GHz
    Memory: 8192MB RAM
    Available OS Memory: 8174MB RAM
Card name: AMD Radeon HD 6570
    Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc.
    Display Memory: 743 MB
    Dedicated Memory: 1008 MB
    Shared Memory: 3831 MB

I am experiencing flickering issues as well. However my issues are with the Fast Color Corrector and the Three Way Color Corrector. It seems as if the color correction tools are causing intermittent flickering on some people's systems.
Additionally when I converted some old PPCC 7.2.2 projects which had the Three Way Color Corrector applied, some clips in sequences would come up as a green screen in the program monitor. If I turned the TWCC off the footage would display correctly in the program window. If I turn the TWCC back on it would display the green screen again.
I haven't found a solution to the flickering but to solve the green screen issue I have to remove the effect, then re apply it. I guess for whatever reason, the 2014 version of PP has issues with 7.2.2 projects where the TWCC was applied.
I'm hoping Adobe will address this soon with an update for the various bugs that have been reported.

That is  very old for drivers and new driver for the chipset will not be coming I do not see it as supported either Photoshop CC and CC 2014 GPU FAQ
Tested video cards for Photoshop CC and CC 2014
Adobe tested the following video cards before the release of Photoshop CC and CC 2014. This document lists the video card by series. The minimum amount of VRAM supported on video cards for Photoshop CC and CC 2014 is 512 MB.
Important: This document is updated as newly released cards are tested. However, Adobe cannot test all cards in a timely manner. If a video card is not listed here, but was released after May 2013, you can assume that the card will work with Photoshop CC and CC 2014.
Adobe tested laptop and desktop versions of the following cards. Be sure to download the latest driver for your specific model (Laptop and desktop versions have slightly different names.)
    nVidia GeForce: 400, 500, 600, 700 series

    Please help me!

sounds like it could still beGPU or driver related. Can you try out GPU troubleshooting issues below and let us know what happens?

    GPU/OpenGL preferences in Photoshop CS6
The advantages of using a compatible video card (GPU) with Photoshop are that you can experience better performance and more features.   Problems can occur if you have an older video card with limited VRAM or if you use other programs at the same time as Photoshop that use the GPU.
Choose Edit > Preferences (Windows) or Photoshop > Preferences (Mac OS).
In the Performance panel, make sure Use Graphics Processor is selected in GPU Settings.
Click Advanced Settings and specify the following options:
    Mode > Basic
    Mode > Normal
Mode > Advanced Provides the benefits of Normal mode as well as newer OpenGL advances that can result in improved performance.
Use Graphics Processor to Accelerate Computation
Use OpenCL Uses the GPU to accelerate the new blur filters (Field Blur, Iris Blur, and Tilt-Shift) – OpenCL will only be available on newer GPUs that support OpenCL v1.1 or higher
Anti-Alias Guides And Paths Allows the GPU hardware to smooth the edges of drawn guides and paths.
30 Bit Display (Windows only) Allows Photoshop to display 30 bit data directly to screen on video cards that support it
Quick GPU Troubleshooting StepsYou can experience problems such as artifacts, errors, and crashes if there are incompatibilities between Photoshop and the display components that access the GPU.If you experience crashes, incorrectly rendered windows or objects, redraw issues, or performance issues while running Photoshop, first determine whether OpenGL is causing the problem.
    Turn off OpenGL.
Choose Edit > Preferences (Windows) or Photoshop > Preferences (Mac OS).
In the Performance panel, uncheck Use Graphics Processor. Click OK.
Restart Photoshop, and perform the same function.
If the problem recurs while OpenGL Drawing is disabled, OpenGL is not the cause. For additional troubleshooting, see Troubleshoot system errors and freezes | Adobe software on Windows (cpsid_82252) or Troubleshoot system errors and freezes | Adobe software on Mac OS 10.x (cpsid_82414).If the problem resolves, proceed with the rest of the troubleshooting steps to fix OpenGL.
Make sure that you're using the latest update of Photoshop.Updates fix bugs and issues.
Update the display driver.Updated display drivers can fix many issues, such as crashing, incorrectly rendered objects, and performance problems. See Update the video display driver. Then, turn on Use Graphics Processor in Photoshop preferences.
    Reset preferences.
Resetting preferences returns OpenGL settings to their default status. Reset Photoshop preferences by pressing and holding Shift+Ctrl+Alt (Windows) or Shift+Option+Command (Mac OS) immediately after you start Photoshop.
Click Yes when asked if you want to delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings File.
Retry the function that caused the problem.
Change the OpenGL mode to Basic.
Setting the OpenGL mode to Basic uses the least amount of GPU memory and the most basic GPU feature set.
    Close all documents.
Choose Edit > Preferences (Windows) or Photoshop > Preferences (Mac OS)
In the Performance panel, click the GPU Settings Advanced Settings button.
    Choose Mode > Basic
    Restart Photoshop.
If this solution resolves the problem, switch to Normal mode. See if the issue recurs. If the issue recurs, return to Basic mode.
Note:  If you’re changing GPU preferences to troubleshoot a problem, re-launch Photoshop after each change.
If you are using more than one video adapter, remove the additional cards.
Multiple video adapters can cause problems with GPU accelerated or enabled features in Photoshop. It's best to connect two (or more) monitors into one video adapter. If you have to use more than one video adapter, make sure that they are the same make and model. Otherwise, crashes and other problems can occur in Photoshop.
Note: Using two video adapters does not enhance Photoshop's performance.
    Check your Cache Levels setting.
If you've set your Cache Levels to 1 in Photoshop preferences, you can experience performance issues with GPU features. Reset Cache Levels to the default setting, which is 4.
Choose Edit > Preferences > Performance (Windows) or Photoshop > Preferences (Mac OS)
In the Performance panel, choose Cache Levels > 4.

  • Elements 3.0 cannot save lighting effects styles

I am running a PIII 1 gig with 2 gig of memory Running win 2000Pro. I have Elements 3.0 installed and I have been using the lighting effects filter, but I have noticed that when the lighting effects box comes up there are no styles listed. Also I cannot save any lighting effects styles. When I try to save a Style I get the following error message:
'An error occured while trying to save the style'
I do not use any file compression on any of the drives or folder on my system.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated...
One more thing there are lighting effects styles on the hard drive. I found them in the Plugins folder under Filters/Lighing Styles.
    Don

Thanks for the link to the FAQ Terri.
I checked and the proper settings were already present, but I reset them anyway. (couldn't hurt). Re-booted and cleared the preference files again. I still cannot see the lighting styles that are on the computer and I still cannot save the ones I build.
I have also tried and Un-install and re-install, but there must have been some files that were not cleared because after the re-install some of my settings came back. I will have to try again and this time I will make sure nothing is left after the Un-install.
I am very please with the help I have recieved on the Forum.. It always pays to have more than one mind looking for solutions.
    Thanks again

  • Trouble accessing lighting effects in CS6 for a rush job!

This is driving me nuts.  I love lighting effects and need it for a rush job, but it is greyed out.  I am in RGB mode 8 bits.  I have tried flattening, layers and no matter what I still cannot access it.  Please help!!  I need this right away.  Thank you!!

Thank you, it looks like it could either be my graphics card or the fact that I have PS Standard.  Thanks for your help.  I am very sad that this feature is not avaliable.  I am dealing with a very sensitive session and this effect would have been perfect.  Thanks for all the help.

  • Why don't I find in Filters Render "lighting Effects"? - CS5 Extended.

I am looking at making displacement maps for textures, Etc

So before starting Photoshop select it in the Finder and raise File > Get Info and look for the check-box next to »Open in 32-bit mode«.

  • JavaFx Lighting Effects : When to Use which ???

    Hi,
I know that this question in more design oriented than technical,
but still i'm posting this question in this forum .
I wanted to start off with javaFx lighting effects and i have found very good examples online .
I have seen the implementation of lighting effects at:
    and [http://jfxstudio.wordpress.com/2009/03/18/javafx-light-effect/|http://jfxstudio.wordpress.com/2009/03/18/javafx-light-effect/]
These applications just gave us the ability to configure the lighting options .
I also have found a file effects.fx online and in that i see that
    effect: Lighting{
    light: DistantLight{azimuth: 90}
} // to be used to make a button look pressed
    and
    effect: Lighting{
    light: DistantLight{azimuth: 270}
} // to be used to make a button look upbeat .
But this hasn't worked for me in few scenarios .
For example i have tried to apply these 90 and 270 distant light effects
to buttons made of various gradients and for some it seemed to have worked and
for some it doesn't seem to have worked .
I think we will have to change the color of distant light for that .
Could any one point me to a guide or online site or some tips
that will help be in understanding which effect to use when and which color
should i use for the lighting effect and other stuff .
It would be of great help for me .
    Thanks a lot .
    bye

    Hi JavaFx Duo,
    Thanks for your reply .
Actually I wanted to find out info like how to make an image ( or button of any gradient )
look gone inside or look up ( in a measurable way, i mean depth or height below/over the surface )
using lighting effects . And how does the azimuthal angle
and the color of the light source have an effect on it .
Earlier i have posted a forum in which Phi Lho has answered me
on how to make the button text look gone down and i can try to achieve
that by trying similar here .
But i thought of making use of the lighting effects and i want to know if any guide or tutorial
is available which describes the lighting effect with various Colors
and angles and when to use distant light/point light and spot light effects .
I would also like to know a few practical implementations
of these effects in javaFx ( i.e as i have posted earlier 90-for making it look deep and 270 for looking elevated
and such stuff ............................. ) by varying the angle and Color ,
So that i can use them in my applications rather than trying various combination
    each time .
    Thanks

  • CS6 Lighting Effects-Missing Control Handles / Crashing

I have read several other threads on this issue where the control overlays are missing when you go to Filter>Render>Lighting Effects. The "answer" from Adobe always seems to be, "updated your video card drivers."
I have a ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 560v for my Dell laptop running Windows 7 64bit. I have checked both through Dell and the ATI page and I have the latest drivers but Lighting Effects don't work properly. So now what?
I tried messing with the Preferences for Performance based on other posts. No luck. When I go to View>Extras>Show All I do then see the controls, however, the program freezes then crashes every time.
So is there a fix for this or do I have to go back to CS4 to do all my lighting effects?
    Thanks.

    Chris,
99% SOLVED! I think the problem here is that Photoshop users don't know the tech speak surrounding driver technology.
For instance when you started talking about AMD I was thinking, "I have an ATI driver, who is AMD?"
Also, quite frankly the AMD/ATI site is a very poor unser experience. I searched for my Dell Studio 1747 Laptop driver (ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 560v) several times and it found no drivers to update even though there is a whole page dedicated to that processor.
I never did find what you called a "driver cleaner" on the AMD site, however I stumbled (yes, stumbled after looking at tons of pages on AMD) on this AMD Driver Autodetect. I installed that and it recommended I replace my driver with AtI Mobility Radeon HD 4650. The process went smooth other than everything on my screen getting tiny for a bit. After the forced restart everything looked right.
I opened a Photoshop doc and tried Filter>Lighting Effects and still NO CONTROLS / HANDLES, however this time when I went to View>Extras>View All the handles showed like before BUT PHOTOSHOP NO LONGER CRASHES. I can now manipulate those controls/handles and use lighting effects.
I know this is not all of Adobe responsiblity, but I'm writing this post hoping anyone wlse who is frustrated will taked your advice, go to the AMD Driver Autodetect link and get it sorted out.
    Thanks.
