Cannot use macbook without charging battery

I have a apple macbook and can only use it when it is charging. When I take the charger off, the macbook shuts down. It looks like that the internal adapter is not working anymore. It is annoying only being able to work with my macbook when connected with the charger. Does anyone have a suggestion?

I resolved it already by booting with cmd + s

  • ORA-19802: cannot use DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST without DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST_S

    Hi all,
    We are using Oracle 11g R2 RAC on OEL 5.6.
    After set the db_recovery_file_dest to FRA diskgroup,
    I forgot to set the DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST_SIZE, and I've started an instance,
    like this:
    SQL> ALTER SYSTEM SET db_recovery_file_dest='+FRA' SCOPE=spfile;
    System altered.
    SQL> commit;
    Commit complete.
    SQL> show parameter recover
    NAME                                 TYPE        VALUE
    db_recovery_file_dest                string
    db_recovery_file_dest_size           big integer 0
    recovery_parallelism                 integer     0
    SQL> shutdown immediate;
    Database closed.
    Database dismounted.
    ORACLE instance shut down.
    SQL> SQL> SQL>

    ORA-19802: cannot use DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST without DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST_SIZEI need to set the DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST_SIZE. How can I do this?
    I cannot to set this parameter when I startup with mount or nomount option.
    Thank you very much!

    Hi,
    So, you can set the parameter DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST_SIZE
    by using this other node:
    ALTER SYSTEM SET DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST_SIZE=<size> SCOPE=spfile;And in the first node with problems to start the instance you can start like this:
    SQL> startup;
    ORACLE instance started.
    Total System Global Area  835104768 bytes
    Fixed Size                  2217952 bytes
    Variable Size             624953376 bytes
    Database Buffers          201326592 bytes
    Redo Buffers                6606848 bytes
    ORA-01105: mount is incompatible with mounts by other instances
    ORA-19808: recovery destination parameter mismatchThe above error is normal in this moment because you must to set
    the parameters on other node too, like this:
    node2:
    ALTER SYSTEM SET DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST_SIZE=<size> SCOPE=spfile;
    ALTER SYSTEM SET db_recovery_file_dest='+FRA' SCOPE=spfile;
    SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE;
    STARTUP;
    node1:
    SHUTDOWN; (again)
    STARTUP; (now without any errors)
    Regards. :-)

  • How do I start my MacBook without the Battery Installed

    My battery has started to Bulge and I am having the usual problems I have read about with this issue, the trackpad isn't working, premature shutdown, etc. I am living thousands of miles away from an Apple Store so I have given the battery to a friend to either get replaced or buy a new one. In the mean time I want to use the MBP without the battery. How do you start the MBP without the battery being installed?
    I know there will be a reduction in performance but I am not worried about that at the moment as I need some of the info of my hard disk. It can't run any slower than it is at the moment, it's dead.

    Kappy Thanks I have started it again. I actually found this thread and tried it yesterday before my question but nothing worked. I left the computer uplugged over night and thought I had nothing to lose so I tried it agian this morning and it actually worked this time. I only had to use the Restart (Control-Command-Power) option not the SMC reset. Leaving the power disconnected must have cleared something somewhere.
    Thanks again.

  • Using macbook w/ bad battery

    My battery is shot but for reasons too complicated to go into I can't get it replaced, at least not right now. Can I continue to use my Macbook Pro just plugged in, or will this make the computer explode or fry itself? Is there a way to switch to some kind of "power cord only" mode where the power bypasses the battery and goes directly into the computer? I'm guessing no, because that would make too much sense.
    I don't know if there are benefits to having a battery I can't just replace myself, but I wish someone would have told me before I bought this thing that I can't do this.

    Yes, I have one with a battery that must be replaced by a technician, and I cannot go anywhere near a Mac store for at least a few months. I can have a battery shipped to me, which is what I had planned on doing, until I realized this computer was not like my old one (which had a replaceable battery). I rely on this computer for work.
    I'll have to just use this one until it blows up and then get a PC or something else with a bloody replaceable battery!!
    Thanks for the help.

  • Using Macbook Pro charger with European sockets

    I am studying abroad for a year in Denmark, and I currently live in US with a Macbook Pro. I have an adapter plug to fit the European socket, but do I need a special converter or anything for using the charger in Europe?

    No — just the plug adapter.

  • Using MacBook "without" display?

    hi!
    I ordered a macbook with a broken display (something fell on it) and as far as i see the rest of the book is intact.
    would it be possible to install and use OSX with a external screen only?

    If you don't have a keyboard, mouse and external display hooked up you would need to use Insomniax to do this.

  • Using iPod without the battery

    I just picked up an iPod that I want to use at work. Can I just plug it in using the USB adapter and not use the battery at all? It seems like it would be nice if I never really had to use up the battery.

  • Import a used MacBook without receipt - warranty?

    I'd like to buy a MacBook of Ebay (from UK to Netherlands, so both Europe), which I know isn't recommended, but if the MacBook is legit, can I use the warranty that's left even though there's no receipt? I know there's a worldwide warranty, but is a MacBook with a serial number and nothing else enough to claim it?

    "I know there's a worldwide warranty, but is a MacBook with a serial number and nothing else enough to claim it? "
    Yes and no. Yes, you can claim the warranty (provided the computer has not been reported as stolen.) No, the warranty (Extended AppleCare) is not recognized everywhere. There are some countries in which the warranty is not valid.
    You can register your ownership at Apple's web site.

  • Using Macbook without lid/display (and mounted upside down)

    I have a MBP with a damaged LCD that I want to connect to a kitchen HDTV and mount upside down. Since the display is useless, don't need a camera, and I want easy access to the power button, I want to remove the lid and mount the MBP upside down to the underside of a above-counter kitchen cabinet (not enclosed). Is there any problem with removing the lid and mounting/operating upside down? Makes for a sweet kitchen internet station, and will be very cool to have the MBP and cables mounted out of sight (wireless keyboard/mouse of course!).

    BSteely, thanks for the response. Unfortunately I started dissasembly before I checked back on the forum. I removed the damaged LCD and got crazy and removed the lid frame. I continuously checked the MBP operation after each step to make sure it was still working (using external display). The only thing I did not check along the way was internet access (wireless router). I ended up cutting the connection to what I believe is the antenna/receiver? Because when I mounted the MBP under the cabinet and turned it on, everything worked fine except no internet access. I am in the process of trying to reconnect the wires on what I think is the antenna (was mounted in the bottom of the lid/hinge area. Do you think this is my problem? Other than that everything working OK so far.

  • Using macbook without screen

    Hey guys,
    My logic board is broken, so I can't see anything when the computer is running. The actual computer is running in the background, so I can open stuff etc. I tried an HDMI cable but it won't work. I can open itunes etc, I hear sound from the laptop from the music when I manage to open iTunes.
    Is there a way to activate screenshare by keyboard? I can open any program by hotkeys, I know em all
    An example is skype screenshare, it takes alot of guessing and clicking to actually get into a call and then its also really hard to press twice on the screenshare button. So I am thinking. Is there any other alternative for screensharing easily?
    Jesse.

  • Cannot use numbers without buying an update for 17,99

    Apple ist nun wohl endgültig dem Größenwahn verfallen.
    Eine Datei die ich vor 2 Wochen zu letzte bearbeitet habe kann nicht mehr geöffnet werden, es sei denn, ich kaufe das € 17,99 update.
    Ich habe das alte  Programm wie zuvor jedes iPhone 1-5, iPad, iPod, iMac etc. nebst Software gekauft und werde nun so ******.
    Aus Enttäuschung über dieses Verhalten werde ich Apple verklagen, allein um gegen diese Arroganz anzukämpfen und um Recht zu bekommen und diese Geldgier zur Schau zu stellen.
    Ich war Apple fast wie einer Sekte verfallen und bin, obwohl 17,99 Peanuts sind, enttäuscht und werde Apple zumindest einen kleinen Tritt verpassen und das im Netz verbreiten.
    Danke Apple
    <Edited by Host>

    The new iWork apps should be a free update.  Hopefully one of these translations will be close to right:
    Die neuen iWork apps sollten ein freies Update sein
    Die neue iWork-apps sollte ein kostenloses update

  • Using a MacBook Pro without the Battery?

    Hello!
    A user in our office left their MacBook Pro (2007, OS 10.6.8) locked up in their desk during a holiday break. When they returned, the battery had swollen enough to force a corner of the access panel open. I removed the battery back and tray to inspect the insides: clean and dry. There appeared to be no leakage. We tried starting it up. The  but the screen wouldn't even flicker. It remained black. (I noticed, too late, however, that the user kept holding down the power button when they didn't get what they were expecting from the screen.) The model is a 2007 MacBook Bro with Mac OS 10.6.8
    A couple questions:
    1) I've never heard of a laptop battery swelling up on its own after lying dormant for two weeks. Is that possible? What are the normal indicators of a failing battery?
    2) Is it possible to restart the MacBook without the battery pack and tray inside? What is the best procedure for doing or determining that?
    Thanks for any help!

    Swelling is a common indicator of a failing battery.
    2) Is it possible to restart the MacBook without the battery pack and tray inside? What is the best procedure for doing or determining that?
    Not always, and even if you can the MBP will run at a lower speed.
    Replace the battery and all other components that were removed.

  • Macbook shutdowns when battery hits about 20% without warning

    I have a Macbook that was recently upgraded to Leopard (v10.5.1). Anytime I am running on battery power and I get around the 20% battery level remaining the system will just do a hard shotoff. No warnings or prompts, it will just shutoff, and I will lose anything I was working on.
    Has anyone heard or seen this issue? Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    Same exact thing happened to me. There's a long thread about this issue here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5979961
    First thing to do is check your battery's health in System Profiler. If your battery's "cycle count" is less than 300, and your health is anything less than "Good," Apple will replace the battery within two years of its purchase date. They may require some cajoling to do it, as noted in the thread, but the two-year warranty is official, as noted here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/macbook_macbookpro/batteryupdate/
    +"For MacBook and MacBook Pro systems with Intel Core Duo processors, this program extends repair coverage on the battery for up to two years from the date of purchase of the computer."+
    +"Affected batteries will have one or more of the following symptoms: ... Battery exhibits low charge capacity/runtime when using a fully charged battery with a battery cycle count (as shown in System Profiler) of less than 300."+
    Of course the oddity in all this seeming hardware mess is Leopard. I admit, the shutdowns without warning only started after I upgraded, and others have noted the same thing. Did Leopard uncover a problem with my battery, or exacerbate it? All I know is that my new battery is working great, fingers crossed....
