Cannot use retouch tool

I'm having trouble editing some jpegs in iPhoto. Every tool works perfectly except the retouch tool. The instructions say click the tool, then drag the crosshair over the photo. Nothing.
So far as I can tell, there is nothing unusual about the files. They are not write protected. I can crop, enhance, adjust contrast etc., but not retouch.

I find that the retouch tool works better if you zoom the photo. Use the slider on the lower right to enlarge the photo. I usually slide it at least 1/3 of the way to the right. Also, if retouch seems to be working, but not well, just click 'Done' even if you are not, then re-edit the photo, and you may find that it works better.
Finally, sometimes to remove the little 'spot' you want retouch to do, you have to move the cursor in a circular motion. And, even then, sometimes it seems as if the spot won't be rubbed out until the cursor is either further above it or below it.
I have to say this is and has been a real pain since iphoto5. It worked much better in iP4!

  • Cannot use Type Tool/Font

I'm having this issue in Photoshop CS3 as well but I'll deal with that later.
I cannot use the Text Tool (The T that lets you write) in my copy of Adobe Illustrator CS5.1.
I made due by using my campus computers to put the font I need into the document, butwhen I opened that same document in my version, the text is just. Not there. At all.
    Any ideas?

    Myraid Pro.
When I have the document open in another person's copy of Illustrator cs5.1, the text works fine but it just doesn't show up in my copy and any text boxes already made and filled out show blank boxes as well but the text box layer has what I had written in it as the name of the layer.
Like my font doesn't exist. But the name is right there in the library.

  • Cannot use drawing tools

I started a series of graphs starting from Presentation mode, using text and drawing tools from the Toolbox at left side, and finished three successfully. But on the fourth one, I suddenly cannot use the drawing tools. When I try to draw a circle, I can see it being drawn but when I release the mouse a different black square shape appears and when I click again it disappears. The same happens for drawing lines, just two black squares appear and then disappear when I click on the graph. I cannot find any Layout menu. However, one of my earlier templates for these graphs is OK for drawing, but I would rather use the present modified one. By the way, the modifications have not caused this change, it worked three times with them.

If this occurs in only the one document, it sounds suspiciously like document corruption. Have you tried creating a new document. transferring the current components to the new one, then proceding onward from there?

Does anyone know why I can't use any of the Pages tools (rotate, extract, insert, crop, etc) in Acrobat X for a fillable form built in LiveCycle?

Because XFA-based PDFs have very limited editablity in Acrobat, especially for dynamic XFA forms.

    * If the menu bar is hidden then press and hold the Alt key down, that should make the Menu bar appear (Firefox 3.6 on Windows) (see [[Menu bar is missing]]).
    * Make sure that you have the ''Navigation Toolbar'' and other toolbars visible: View > Toolbars .
    * If items are missing then see if you can find them in the View > Toolbars > Customize window.
    * If you see the item in the Customize window then drag it back from the Customize window to the Navigation toolbar.
    * If you do not see that item then click the Restore Default Set button in the View > Toolbars > Customize window.

Hi. After loading a picture into Photoshop some of the menu tools are greyed out and I cannot use the keyboard short cuts, for instance I cannot use Ctrl + T for free transform, how do I resolve this problem. In addition the tool Icons are so small I have to get close to the screen to see them, is there anyway the Icons can be made bigger without reducing the resolution of the screen.
    Thanks
    Derek

Are you working on a background layer? If so, Ctrl + T will not work. Press Alt and double-click your background layer to convert to a normal layer (or right-click BG layer and select Layer from Background) and try again.
If you're working in Photoshop CC 2014 you can go to Preferences > Experimental Features and tick "Scale UI 200% for high-density displays" to make your buttons and icons larger.

  • Got an iMac and used migration tool (PC to Mac). When I try iTunes i get The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version.... download iTunes now? but i have it already???

I just got an iMac and used migration tool (PC to Mac). When I try to then open iTunes i get the message
<The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version.... download iTunes now?>
...but i have it already downloaded, when I press download now, it tells me I already have it, but it still won't let me open iTunes???

Unless you've tried to install an older version of iTunes that message likely indicates a corrupt library file. See Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash...

  • Cannot change tools and cannot use selection or crop tools

I am using Photoshop Extended CS6.  A new problem has started to occur recently.  I can select a tool, but I can't change the tool type. For example, I can select the Lasso Tool and when I right-click the tool fly-out appears, but I cannot select a tool from the fly-out to change the tool type.  The editing tools, at least the ones I can select, still work except for the selection and crop tools.  For the crop tool, the crop lines appear at the edge of the image but they cannot be moved.  For the selection tools, nothing is selected.  I can still use menu commands such as Canvas Size.
This happens when I open a file or start a new file.  I have Windows 7, 4G memory and nothing else running.  I have tried 32-bt and 64-bit versions.
This has happened intermittently for a month or two.  In the past, freeing up space on a hard drive seemed to help.  But now I have 50G free on one drive and 30G free on another so I don't see how that could be the problem.  Rebooting allows me to use the crop tool once, but then the problem reoccurs.
    Ideas, anyone?

No keyboard macro programs installed.  Microsoft Security Essentials is installed.  It says it is up to date and there are no problems.  A keyboard test program found no problems. I have tried two USB keyboards with the same results  I have 10% free on my system drive: and 15% free on my second drive.
    More clues:
If I open Photoshop by opening a file, the problem immediately occurs. If I open Photoshop and then open a file, it works until I press a key as described above.
The problem only occurs in Photoshop. I’ve tried lots of other programs, including Premiere, Audition and Illustrator; they all work correctly.
The problem can occur without a keyboard attached.  As I described above, if I switch to another application (Windows Explorer in my test) and then switch back, the problem occurs.  This is true even if there is no internal keyboard and no USB keyboard.

  • Using the retouch tool, how do you make it change color? The old iPhoto one did, this one seems to be flesh-tone only, which is not how I need it to be. In old iPhoto, used the local color to blend, it was great.

I don't know which old version you're referring to but iPhoto 6's,  7's and 8's retouch tool works exactly the same as iPhoto 9's. The color of the enhance tool's area while applying is a light brown color but the retouch works on any color using the surrounding colors as a basis.

  • Image won't export after using Aperture 2's new retouching tools

After I used the new retouching tools: clone and repair in Aperture 2 on a small jpeg image from a Canon point and shoot, I tried to export my image to desktop. Although the exporting "wheel" indicated the image was being exported it showed nothing after 10 minutes and I had to cancel the export. After I "Removed Adjustments" it exported in a flash. Other images that had not been retouched and retouched RAW images exported just fine. I have reported a bug to Apple. Any suggestions?

I had a similar problem with the Aperture trial until I deleted my Aperture library and re-installed the trial. I had previously (about a year ago) installed an earlier version Aperture trial and I might have still had the old library file on my hard drive. I wonder if the Aperture 2 trial upgraded the old library and corrupted it. After I reinstalled, export is still slow when retouch is used, but it works. If you don't have much invested in your Aperture library, you might try backing it up, deleting it and creating a new one. I'm just speculating, though.

I have just downloaded Yosemite but I find that Photoshop Elements 11 does not work properly. If I use a tool like a paint brush or spot healer I cannot paint a full stroke does anyone else have this issue or know a solution?

Many thanks that does work. But it now leads to another question is this simply a trackpad issue and if so will it be fixed? I use Elements every day and was thinking I would have to go back to Mavericks.

I cannot use the type tool in Photoshop CC it goes black. Why?

    What goes black?
What OS version are you using?
And have you updated your video card drivers from the GPU maker's website? (bugs in video drivers being the most common cause of display issues)

  • Aperture changing pixel size after using Retouch/Repair/Clone tool?

I apologize if this is a stupid question - I'm new to using Aperture and have a rudimentary knowledge (at best) about the mechanics of Aperture.
I use the retouch tool on a portion of my photo, and the pixel size is reduced.  I want to maintain the original 12.0megapixels. How do I work with the photo without changing the pixel size - or, how can I restore the orginal pixel size after editing the photo?
I've also cropped the photo, constraining the aspect ratio at 4:5.
Here is the file info before I start working with it:
And after using the retouch, this happens:

    Frank Caggiano wrote:
Again this is not normal Aperture behavior, this doesn;t occur on my system. If you could post the screen shot of the adjustments it might help.
Sure - Here is a sample image. It is not a RAW file. It appears to be happening in every image in the library. I made a new library and it appears to be happening in the same pattern. I'm in Aperture, opened a photo which was imported directly into Aperture from camera.
Now, I'm going to crop to 4:5 ratio - from what I'm hearing, crop should not effect the 12.0 mp?
Notice how the MP is now 10.6?
    Now, I'll apply auto enhance:
In this case, it looks like cropping does effect the pixel size. It's a different image from what I was using before.
Now, I use the retouch tool:
The MPs are now 9.7 - it keeps getting smaller and smaller!
When you crop, is it normal for the MPs to reduce?
Thanks so much for your help, I'm so frustrated.
