Cannot use Safari with this version of OSX??

I recenlty installed Leopard on my G5 (pre-Intel but with 2GB). I have iLife 08 and Safari 3.
On one of the Account windows I get the message that "You cannot use the application Safari with this version of Mac OS X".
It works fine on my (administrator) account.
Any thoughts on this one please.
BTW, it is my children's account and I have some (but not stringent) parental controls.

  • Cannot use Chess with this version of Mac OSX...?

When I first installed Leopard, Chess (the Apple app) worked fine. Now, after updating to 10.5.1 I get a message saying I can't use it with this version of OSX when I try to open it. Any idea why? Can I get Chess back? Is it just me?

    Andrew Butterfield wrote:
Obviously some little glitch, but now it's working fine. Just wish I could beat it occasionally. Still, hope lies eternal...
It is likely that in the Dock, you had a pointer to the pre-Leopard version of Chess left over from an upgrade or archive & install, so that version was trying to launch from the Dock. "Get Info" tells me that Leopard's Chess is version 2.3 & it even has a checkbox for "Open in 32 bit mode" -- something I haven't seen before.
If you have any other similar Dock-related glitches, use the "Show in Finder" Dock menu option to find the app & see if it looks like a Tiger "leftover."

  • Can't use safari w/this version of OSX?? OSX 10.5.1/Safari 3.04

worked fine on my powerbook g4 before installing Leopard yesterday.
now, with leopard, i get that message..."can't use the application safari w/this version of OSX" what's up??
the same versions (10.5.1/3.04) work fine on my imac g5
software update thinks all's fine and i can't find a downloadable version of Safari on the apple site except for windoze. jeeeze! come on guys, how about a little mac support??

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Are you certain you are trying to open v 3.0.4? Make sure you don't have multiple Safari versions installed on your machine. Enter Safari.app in your spotlight panel. If multiples show up, move to the trash the 2.0.4 version.
In necessary: Reinstalling Safari 3.0.4 - Insert the Leopard Installer DVD. Double Click on the "Optional Installs". Then double click on the Optional Installs.mpkg file. Once open the Installer will lead you through a few steps. After selecting your HD, the next panel is where you'll find Safari (in the Applications folder). Select it and continue.
Once Safari is installed, "repair permissions" again via Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.

  • Since I updated to Firefox 8 on Mac OSX 10.4.11, Firefox will not open anymore (not even previous versions downloaded via Safari). I get the error message 'You cannot use Firefox with this version of Mac OSX' (translated from Dutch).

I have tried creating a new profile, problem remains the same.
None of the 3 accounts on this desktop can use Firefox anymore. This has never been a problem. Today (14.11.11) I updated Firefox to 8, and nothing anymore. Via Safari I downloaded Firefox 7 to reinstall, same error message.

Beginning with Firefox 4, Macs must have an Intel x86 processor (which you do have) '''''and''''' OSX 10.5 or higher (your version is OSX 10.4).

The good news is that Firefox 3.6.24 still supports OSX 10.4 and Macs with the PPC Mac architecture. The bad news is that support for the Firefox 3.6.x series is likely to end in the first quarter of 2012.

  • "YOU CANNOT USE THIS APPLICATION SAFARI WITH THIS VERSION OF MAC OS X"

hi, just downloaded the update for mac 10.5.1 - all went well - then tried to open Safari and received this message "YOU CANNOT USE THIS APPLICATION SAFARI WITH THIS VERSION OF MAC OS X" - I have tried downloading Safari again through netscape but that does not seem to work either - ANY IDEAS???? Thanks

It sounds likely that you have more than one copy of Safari on your hard drive. The one in your Applications folder is the one you should have. The one you're trying to launch is an older version that somehow got moved somewhere else, so that the new version got installed in your Applications folder (where it should be) while the old version is running (or trying to run) from another location.
First, double-click on the Safari application file that you have in your Applications folder. Does it run properly, without error messages? If so, everything is fine. You just need to get rid of the old version of Safari and set it up so you can easily launch the new version that is in your Applications folder.
Are you clicking on the Safari icon in your Dock when you see the error message? If so, do this: Control-click on the Safari icon in your Dock and select "Show in Finder" from the contextual menu. A Finder window should open showing the location of that copy of Safari. If that Finder window is any location other than the Applications folder, delete the Safari file that is in that folder. Then drag the Safari icon out of your Dock. Navigate to your Applications folder and drag the Safari file from the Applications folder to your Dock.
You should be all set, but click on the new Safari icon in your Dock to make sure it is the correct version and runs without problems.

  • Cannot use this version of Mail with this version of OSX issue again

OK, so here's a new twist on an old favorite. Have been using Mail with no problems since the 10.5.8 update. Last night I shut my Mac down (something I rarely if ever do) and when I turned it on this morning and tried to launch Mac Mail, I got the error message about it not working with this version of OSX. Did NOT update the OS. Did NOT update mail or roll back Mail. Just shut down and turned it back on. Mail is version 3.5. Have tried all the usual fixes to no avail. Any ideas?
    Adam

All of the above. All of them produced the error. Removed apple.com.mail.plist and restarted, and the problem persisted. My fix was downloading the 10.5.8 standalone updater and reinstalling. This produced the behavior removing the .plist should have and Mail started and I was able to reenter account info and re-index my old mailboxes. So, for now, fixed. But since this happened on its own without a recent install of anything system or 3rd party related, we'll see how long it lasts.

  • My iPhoto icon has a cross over it, when i open it, it You have "iPhoto" 9.2.1. you can't use this with this version of OSX? it used to work ?what's gone wrong?

my iPhoto icon has a cross over it, when i open it, it You have “iPhoto” 9.2.1. you can't use this with this version of OSX? it used to work ?what's gone wrong?

iPhoto 9.2.3 is incompatible with MacOS 10.9.3 Mavericks. If you are running Mavericks on your system you need to update iPhoto to 9.5.1. Only, the problem is, that this version is no longer available at the App Store.
The easiest way to get a compatible iPhoto version in that case would be to upgrade to Yosemite, MacOS X 10.10, and then download the most recent iPhoto version from the AppStore, iiPhoto 9.6, like LarryHN suggested.
If you cannot download iPhoto after upgrading to iPhoto 9.6 post back.

  • Cannot start mac office 2011, prompt "this identity cannot be opened  with this version of outlook

cool, need help on this.. just installed the software but the message prompt me " This identity cannot be opened with this version of Outlook". i using Macbook and version Mac OS X 10.7.3

    Hi,
This issue occurs as the current navigation pane in Outlook is not working properly. We can try to use the command "Outlook.exe /resetnavpane" to clear and regenerate the navigation pane for the current Outlook profile:
Press Win + R and type “outlook.exe /resetnavpane” in the blank box, then press Enter.
We can also create a new profile to test if this issue persists:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829918/en-us
If there's no issue with the new profile, simply delete the old one.

  • "iTunes cannot be opened in this version of OSX" error

A few weeks ago I installed iTunes 7.2, which had been working fine until I tried to open it yesterday, and I got an error message saying that it was not compatible with my version of OSX, and that I needed a version newer than 10.3.9, which is odd considering that I'm running 10.4.9. I tried restarting, then I deleted iTunes to reinstall it. The new installer that I downloaded says something like "iTunes cannot be installed on this computer because it requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later." Has anyone else had this issue? Does anyone know how to go about correcting it? Any help is appreciated.

Have you contacted Apple support regarding this issue? As i believe they may be able to swing you in the correct direction? Have you installed any applications or made any system changes between the time you last opened iTunes and now?

  • Can't use this version of mail with this version of osx

can't open mail since downloading security update OSX 10.6.8

Mac OS X v10.6: "You can't use this version of Mail…" alert after installing Security Update 2012-004:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4424?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Fellow user Grant Bennet-Alder offers this solution:
Some users have reported this problem if the Mail Application has been moved out of the top-level /Applications folder, or duplicated in another location.
When the Security Update is done, the old version of Mail is disabled.
    The solution has been to:
    1) make certain Mail is in the /Applications folder
    2) There is no other copy anywhere else.
    3) Once steps 1 and 2 have been done, Manually download and re-apply the Security Update (2012-004) by hand.
    Security Update 2012-004 (Snow Leopard)
If the Mail.app has been LOST, it can be re-installed by applying the 10.6.8 version 1.1 combo update. But this update is quite large and it is usually not necessary:

  • Can't use this version of mail with this version of OSX (Mail 4.0)(OS 10.6)

After a mail crash I decided to delete Mail and re-install the Mail App from the Snow Leopard install disk. After it had downloaded from the disk, upon trying to launch I get this message. "You have Mail version 4.0 (1075/1076). It can’t be used on Mac OS X Version 10.6.1 (Build 10B504). For more information, click the Help button." The help button doesn't help. Does anyone know where I can download the most recent Mail to be used with 10.6.1?
    Thanks for any help.

Does anyone know where I can download the most recent Mail to be used with 10.6.1?
You can't do that. You need to remember that you cannot download those applications, regardless of the version of Mac OS X that you're running. Deleting Mail was the first big mistake you made here.
If you want to solve your problem, you need to download and install the 10.6.1 Combo Update again; that will make Mail compatible with 10.6.1. In the future, don't delete things unless you know what you're doing and how you're going to get it back. Applications are rarely the problem, so deleting it will do you no good 99.999% of the time.

  • Cannot use 1Password with Portable version of Firefox 11 or later

FF10 Portable and the old 1Password Extension for FF10 are the last versions that will work together (there is a small Firefox INI file hack needed to get it to work). 1Password will not work with FF11 Portable or later, even with the FF hack. This is supposedly due to the new security model introduced in FF11.
I really prefer the security of using portable versions of browsers where all browser data (files, history settings, cookies, cache, etc) is contained within a single base folder that can be located on an encrypted (TrueCrypt) drive.
'''So I am stuck with FF10 Portable and the old 1P extension, and cannot upgrade either unless someone knows of a new hack. ''' If not, I will probably have to switch to LastPass.

Reading the description of how their new add-on works, I think you might need to talk to the Firefox Portable people about whether it can be supported (I'm sure this won't be the last extension to make this kind of change):
"...we changed it to use a websocket connection, which creates a localhost connection (internal system, no internet/network connection is used) between the 1Password extension and the 1Password app."
