Cannot use share movie in iMovie menu

Since I've installed OS X Maverick, I cannot share Movies to iDVD.  Once I put the mouse over the share file it shows nothing.

if you can get it open by any method, Save As... to another project.

I cannot export my movies from iMovie since updating to Mavericks. I can get it into Theater then it says "Creating movie" but nothing happens. I can select share movie into a file, I can pick a name, resolution and location, but it doesn't save. I get the blue circle in the top right hand corner but nothing seems to happen. iMovie used to work perfectly, I cannot believe the update has ruined it!!!!

  • You Cannot Use This Version of iMovie With This Version of Mac OS X

+*Cannot Use This Version of iMovie With This Version of Mac OS X*+
Yes, I can. iMovie just doesn't want to cooperate. I checked the requirements, it says:
an Intel-based Mac, a Power Mac G5 with dual 2.0 GHz or faster processors, or an iMac G5 at 1.9 GHz or faster.
Well, I meet the requirements, I have an iMac G5 with 2.0 GHz, also with Leopard.
    Why can't I use iMovie.

  • Cannot import Finalize movie into iMovie

I have a Sony DCR-DVD103 and when I go to File>Import Movies I do see my Finalized DVD, but all the files including the Import button are grayed out. How can I import the Finalized movie into iMovie?
Upon connecting the Video Camera to my MacBook Pro, DVD Player launches. I quit DVD Player and go to iMovie>Import Movies, but never see how to import the movie into iMovie.

The "Import Movies..." option is for importing "edit" compatible files from a hard drive into iMovie '08. If the source files are not already "edit" compatible, iMovie '08 will not let you import them. Instead, try the ""Import from Camera..." option. If iMovie '08 properly recognizes you DVD camcorder, it will import your MPEG2/AAC content by converting all MPEG-2 "P" and "B" frames to "I" frames (which are editable), convert the AC3 audio to AIFF, and place both in an MOV file container with start and/or end time offsets to minimize drift between audio and video. The resulting file can then be edited in iMovie '08.
If the camcorder is not recognized by iMovie '08, then you will probably have to import the MPEG2/AC3 files to you hard drive and manually convert them to an edit compatible compression format manually using an MPEG-based, third-party conversion application like iSquint (free), MPEG Streamclip (free but requires $20 QT MPEG-2 Playback component), FFmpegX, (donation-ware), Visual Hub (pay-ware), MPEG2 Works (pay-ware), or similar application.

  • Cannot share movies in iMovie 13

Need help in exporting movies to quicktime.
I click the "share" menu choice and nothing happens.

When I click the "Share" menu & pick "File" & pick the size of the file, it gets saved to the "Theater" but not my Desktop.  How do I save it to my Desktop?  Please HELP!!!!!!!  I think the old iMovie was much more user friendly.

  • I cannot 'share' movies in iMovie any more

Having just upgraded to the new iMove, I can no longer share anything. The share buttons repond to the click as a mousedown kind of thing but they dont actuallt do anything!! Frustrating!!

I don't know if this will help, but I'm excited about a recent test I did and am sharing it on several sites --
If your movie is less than about 13 minutes, and you want super quality, I found a way to create a .mov file that fits on a DVD and you can burn it yourself, and anyone can play it.  (I did not use iDVD.)  If you're willing to live with a slightly degraded version, you can put a 106-minute video on a DVD, and it'll look just fine to a group sitting in a room.  Obviously if you want to upload it to a file-sharing site, that's easily doable, as well.
Having slogged my way through iMovie’s “Help,” online Apple Help and numerous blogs like this one with solutions that were frustratingly varied, hard to follow and even outright contradictory, I gave up and did my own methodical tests to see which combination of options and settings yielded the best result for creating a file on my desktop that can be shared. I have no idea what the various and sundry options and settings are doing, but the results (differences) are apparent, and that's all I care about.
Here’s what I worked with:  I have a four-minute movie created in iMovie ’11, with nice titles and credits that fade in and out, and one-second cross dissolves in the film.  The movie is 3x4 aspect ratio, not letterbox.  Looks smooth and clean as can be in iMovie, full screen.  (If it matters, I am working on a Mac OS 10.6.8; Processor 2 x 2.66 Ghz 6-core Intel Xeon; Memory 8 GB 1333 Mhz DDR3.)
Tried exporting through Quicktime and not exporting through Quicktime. Most settings resulted in titles that were either fuzzy or were not clean and smooth during the fades, and often videos that were choppy and would freeze every second or so. Some had clean imagery and would play fine but got very pixelated during transitions (dissolves).  Some that were much larger (higher megabyte numbers) and took longer to  generate the file were actually of lower quality.  Go figure.
Of all the tests I did, the best results came from doing the following. Here are two options:
    A)  For a small, convenient file that came to only 176 MB for my 4-minute movie, if you’re willing to live with some very slight image degradation and titles that show some slight compression during fades -- but looks perfect from across a room:
    1)  Share > Export using Quicktime > “Export: Movie to Quicktime” / “Use: Most Recent Settings”
    2)  Click “Options”
    3)  Click “Settings”
    4)  Compression: MPEG-4 Video
    5)  Frame Rate: Current
    6)  Key Frames: Every 24 frames
    7)  Frame Reordering -- unchecked
    8)  Compressor Quality: Best
    9)  Data Rate: “Restrict to 6400 kbits/sec”
    10)  Click “OK” and return to “Movie Settings”
    11)  Ignore “Filter” unless you want to alter the look of your video.
    12)  Adjust “Size” accordingly to your wishes. I clicked it, then selected “1920 x 1080 HD” and checked “Preserve aspect ratio using: Fit within dimensions.” This results in an image 1440 x 1080 (to fit within 1920 x 1080).  Remember that if you don’t preserve your original aspect ratio you’ll get a larger/wider movie, but the top and bottom of your image will be cut off.
    13)  If your video is silent, make sure “Sound” is unchecked. I read that this speeds up the file-creating process.
    14)  Hit “OK”
    15)  Be sure to check where you want your file to appear. I chose “Desktop.”
    16)  Hit “Save”
That’s it!  In my case, after about six minutes, I had a “.mov” file on my desktop that anyone can easily play (people may have to have Quicktime, though, as I understand it, but I believe that’s a free download; you do NOT need Quicktime Pro which costs $).  I uploaded the file to a file-sharing site (Hightail) for others to download, and, testing it, it took me only a few moments to download (I have a FiOS fiber-optic connection, so if you don’t, it will likely take a little longer).  The downloaded file played perfectly and suffered no degradation whatever from the one I generated to my desktop from iMovie.
    B)  For a super high-res version, if you’re willing to live with the size, the ONLY difference is No. 9: Change your Data Rate to “Automatic.”  But as mentioned in the beginning, a standard DVD-R will only hold about 13 minutes of footage at this quality.  If you're only concerned about sending a movie to someone else or a group, upload to a file-sharing site, no problem.
Oddly, this super-quality version took about the same six minutes to generate the desktop .mov file, but the resulting 1.44 GB file is far, far superior.  You’ll be thrilled with the result!
The only downside –– to all of the file tests I did –– is that there is a slight loss of color saturation and contrast from the original iMovie imagery I worked with, particularly with the reds and oranges which become a bit muted.  The blacks/darks came up a bit, yielding slightly less contrast.  But these drawbacks are minor, to me.
If someone knows of a way to preserve the exact original color saturation and contrast, I’m all ears.

  • I cannot use still images in iMovie Trailers anymore

Hi all, I am hoping someone out there can help me.
    I am using iMovie '11  Version 9.0.9 (1795)
    I have a macbook prousing OS x Version 10.9.2
Processor 2.2 Ghz intel core i7
Last year I created a few "Trailers" using still images. All of a sudden I can no longer do this.  I cannot click on the camera icon as it is 'greyed' out or unclickable.  My photos stored in iPhoto.
I can no longer simply drag and drop my images into the 'Project' anymore.
You know when you go to drag an item on Mac and the little green plus ot appears to say essentially 'you can drag here'... well this appears when I try and drag into the 'Event Library', but then a warning/notification screen appears saying "The Files will not be imported.  Photos cannot be imported to the Event Library. Try dragging directly to your Project" .... Well I would if it let me, but it doesn't.
Is anyone else having this problem or has experienced this and has a solution please.
This has wasted more hours than I care to give it, and is doing my head in.
    Thank you
    Panandine

I am bringing in 72dpi jpegs of some of my design work into iMovie
The dpi setting is of NO importance in iMovie/iDVD - only the actual image pixel size. See Preparing images for DVD slideshows at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/6.0/en/17.html for suggested sizes unless you plan on using a lot of Ken Burns Effect zooming.
When I am in iMovie and I drag a clip(still image) into the time line the image looks dull and blurry
The preview window in iMovie is just that - a preview window - for use in editing. It does NOT show the actual image quality of the clip.
Some of us like Photo to Movie or FotoMagico for turning still images into slideshow movies - both offer free trial modes - you might want to give one of them a try.

  • I cannot play .avi movies in iMovie - any advice?

Hi, I cannot play or import any of my .avi movies from my camera to imovie. I can play them in iPhoto and using Quicktime, is there any way I can edit them using iMovie? My digital camera only records in .avi. Can anyone help

I cannot play or import any of my .avi movies from my camera to imovie.
Your audio and/or video compression format on these files is not import/edit compatible with iMovie '08. onvert it as needed. Casio digital cameras, for instance, produce an AVI file container with MJPEG video which is compatible with iMovie '08 and a DVI ADPCM audio track which is not.
I can play them in iPhoto and using Quicktime,
Files can be "playback" only compatible with QT applications, "conversion" compatible (i.e. they play and convert but cannot be edited), or "fully" compatible -- i.e., they playback, convert, and can be edited in their "native" compression format.
is there any way I can edit them using iMovie?
AVI files can be edited in iMovie '08 as long as the offending track(s) can be converted properly to a compatible format.

  • How to use iphoto movies in imovie?

I called apple customer care but they were unfortunately not helpful.
I have imported pictures and videos into iphoto and I would like to use the videos there under imovie.
Some videos (both taken on iPhone and a digital camera) appear in the imovie "iPhoto" section. but some just simply dont appear there.
When I called Apple Care, I was told that only Iphone movies were compatible through iphoto and imovie, but I can see videos i took on a camera in imovie under iphoto.... but only some...
On the apple website, it says that you should be able to access videos on iphoto from imovie.
I have looked up other support forums etc.. but I dont seem to find the right solution for me.
I did try to uninstall both iphoto and imovie, and re-install, but that made no change.
I imported videos into imovie separately, but I assume that takes up twice the space on the SSD. Since its only 256... i would rather avoid any extras...
If anyoneone knows a fix around this issue, please help! Thanx.
Also, is there a way to migrate the whole imovie library onto an external drive as it wil take up a lot of space?

    Hello All,
I found out what happened. For some unknown reason, when I imported the movie clips into imovie they were copied within the iphoto folders. Before the import they were just in the Originals folder. After the import they were located in both the Data and Originals folder in the iphoto path. I was speaking to an Apple Care rep when we found them. At first he was sure that imovie would not copy thm and asked me why I thought that my disk space had been reduced by 8GB. I knew because I watched my free space dwindle during the two hour import and noted the space available before and after the import. He said that this was very odd and imovie should not have not have copied the files and he will report it to Apple. Thanks,

  • Cannot find import movies in imovie in hard drive

    good day
I import files (video) in imovie but i couldn't find it in my hard drive?
    many thanks
    oohhhhh

In iMovie 10 (if this is what you are using) the video clip files are in the library.  Right-click on the library and select "show package contents" and you will see  folders for each of your events.  Within these will be folders labelled "Original media"  In these are your clips.  However, don't change anything in the library with the Finder or imovie will malfunction.

  • I cannot use Windows Movie Maker in Parallels on my iMAC

Hello, I run Windows 7 on my iMAC via Parallells without any problems normally. It works e.g. fine to run the Windows Office programs. But I run into problems when I try to run Windows Movie Maker.
I get the instruction to run dxdiag.exe to verify my DDI-version.
And then I get the following message from Windows:
'"The file prl_umdd.dll is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft Windows
Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL). You can maybe get a WHQL-signed file from the hardware supplyer."
Is this a wellknown problem among mac-users who run Windows via Parallels?
Any suggestion what I should do?

you should ask the experts at this board:

  • Using iTunes movies in iMovie

For a school project, I have to make a movie trailer for a book (specifically Ian Fleming's You Only Live Twice). What are the legal grounds as far as stripping a purchased previous James Bond movie of DRM and using clips in the trailer, providing I am just presenting it to my class, and not distributing it or anything.

    Jack,
Stripping DRM is illegal under any conditions.
The legal terms for iTunes Store purchases can be found in the Terms and Conditions.
In the USA, the legal terms regarding the use of copyrighted information are slightly different in eduactional settings than they are for the general public.  This is a result of the TEACH Act (Technology, Education and Copyright Harmonization Act), which was passed by Congress in 2002. Many schools have posted the TEACH rules online; for example see this.

  • Exporting to Quicktime or movie in IMovie

When I purchased my mac they told me to export the movie to Quicktime and save to the desktop. That way when I opened Idvd I could drag the movie over to Idvd. It takes an extremely long time for the export to take place. Today I tried exporting to "share to movie". I used a 84mb dv file and it took about 10 minutes using "share movie" and about 50 minutes using Quicktime. I then made dvd's of each and played them on my blu ray player hooked to a 50" LCD projection TV. Frankly, I could not tell the difference in the quality. I did the same with video I captured with my HD camcorder and again, I could not tell the difference. My question is--Is there an advantage to using "export to Quicktime" and if so, what would it be? When I purchase an HD burner would the answers to these questions change? In my opinion, using my PC with pinnacle was a much better program, but I bought a mac when I purchased the HD camcorder. Thanks

I have the exact same problem. I export the movie and it comes out lighter than the original everytime. I have used quite a few of the different options and codecs and can't crack this nut... So far my only work around is to darken the movie in imovie first and then export it to get what I want. Not a good work around needless to say.

Facebook has challenged the copyright of a movie using iMovie audio. Am i allowed to share movies made using audio clips from iMovie?

Just curious as to why it's coming up as a copyright violation?
Hard to say.  I think FaceBook errs on the side of abundance caution when they detect anything that sounds like music.
It's also possible to that people use samples of various pieces of iLife audio contest to create a piece of work that they then copyright.
